Joseph Cass, 58, had several relatives in area
Joseph �Brad� Cass, 58, of Cornwall died Aug. 6, 2006. He was born Nov. 14, 1947, son of Dorothy Cass and the late Joseph Cass.
His favorite pastimes were telling jokes and stories, riding his Harley, restoring his pickup truck, reading and spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Cass is survived by a daughter, Janice Barnes; a son, Martin; three grandchildren, Caity, Willy and Sofie Barnes; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several of his brothers and sisters from the Greater New Milford area: four brothers, Michael, Kenny, Fred and Brian, and three sisters, Susanne Scott, Jane Jackson and Amanda Chase. He was predeceased by a son, Jody.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Marie M. Fuller, 103, New Milford woman�s sister
Marie M. Fuller, 103, of Vermont, formerly of Connecticut and Arizona, died July 24, 2006. She was the widow of Elwood M. Fuller.
Mrs. Fuller was born Oct. 6, 1902, in Stirling, N.J., daughter of the late Gabriel and Elisa (Moershing) Mages. She was a registered nurse in Phoenix, Ariz., prior to retirement.
Mrs. Fuller is survived by two sisters, Aline Mahoney of New Milford and Louise Gregory of Rutland, Vt., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Jules Mages, Gabriel Mages and Charles Mages.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church St., Georgetown, CT 06829.

Kevin Terpstra, 48, owned Greenwich Village shop
Kevin Terpstra, 48, of New Milford died Aug. 2, 2006, after a long illness. He was the husband of Dr. Valerie Allusson Terpstra.
He was the co-owner and artistic director of Mxyplyzyk, a famous Greenwich Village gift shop. He retired to New Milford last August, where he refurbished a 1940s Sears House.
Besides his wife, Mr. Terpstra is survived by a son, Raphael.

Lillian D. Carlisle, 97, was a New Milford native
Lillian (Dorwin) Carlisle, 97, of New Milford died June 10, 2006, at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center, New Milford. She was the wife of Thomas Carlisle Sr.
Mrs. Carlisle was born Aug. 17, 1908, in New Milford, a daughter of the late Millard and Mary (Halstead) Dorwin.
She attended New Milford High School and was employed by Nestle Food Corp. and Winchester Electronics in New Milford. She was a member and past matron of the Armee Chapter, OES in New Milford, member of the New Milford First Congregational Church and a volunteer for Family and Children Services in New Milford.
Mrs. Carlisle is survived by two sons, Thomas Jr. of Lantana, Fla., and Richard of South Weymouth, Mass.; a daughter, Helen Woodin of New Milford; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The Colonial Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Book of Remembrance at the First Congregational Church, 36 Main St., New Milford, CT 06776.

Leo R. Brodeur, 69, had been co-owner of Diventco
Leo R. Brodeur, 69, of New Milford died June 10, 2006, in New Milford Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Dale (Connelly) Brodeur.
Mr. Brodeur was born July 18, 1936, in Waterbury, son of the late Leo C. and Adele Brodeur.
He graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury in 1954 and was a standout football player. After graduation, he served four years in the Army at a New Jersey Nike missile base.
After his service, he owned and operated a service station in Waterbury. He and a business partner started Diventco in New Milford and supplied printed circuit boards for Consolidated Controls as well as other local and national manufacturers.
Mr. Brodeur was instrumental in developing advanced circuit board processes for NASA�s Gemini program. Before retiring early due to illness, he oversaw manufacturing operations for Baldor/Boehm Co., formerly of Bethel and New Milford. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers as well as a member of the New Milford Lions Club.
He was an accomplished cook and a skilled model maker. He helped family and friends with numerous carpentry and construction projects.
Besides his wife, Mr. Brodeur is survived by two sons, Pryce of Danbury and Kevin and his wife April of New Milford; two grandchildren, Adam and Paige of New Milford; a brother, Ronald and his wife Lois of Waterbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Knowles.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Visser, 71, was POW during World War II
Thomas M. Visser, 71, of Bethel died June 9, 2006, at Danbury Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Joy (Clarke) Visser.
Mr. Visser was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Kendal, Java Indonesia, son of the late Julius Josef Maria Visser and Maria Christina Jacqueline Jansen-Visser.
He was born and raised in Indonesia to Dutch parents. His family members were interned as prisoners of war for several years while the country was under Japanese occupation during World War II.
After surviving the camps, Mr. Visser returned to the Netherlands as a teenager and completed his schooling. He came to the United States as a young adult, was drafted and served in the Korean War. Before retiring he worked at Pamby�s Motors in Ridgefield.
Besides his wife, Mr. Visser is survived by two daughters, Diana Gregory and her husband Andrew of North Carolina, and Sandra Visser-Sampson and her husband Eric of New Milford; a son, Alan of Brookfield; eight grandchildren, Gianna, Shayla, Alexa, Brittany, Reyna, Ryan, Mason and Karissa; five sisters, Lucie, Gemma Van Der Griend, Heppie Van Dijk, Leonore Van Steen-Visser and Stance Jacobs-Visser; and a brother, Sjoerd of the Netherlands.
Private funeral services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home.

Patricia Tilford, 63, was sister of two local men
Patricia A. Tilford, 63, of Washington Avenue, Sandy Hook, formerly of Danbury, died June 11, 2006, at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Richard W. Tilford Sr.
Mrs. Tilford was born May 6, 1943, in Danbury, daughter of Helen (Dennis) Winters of Danbury and the late Lewis Winters Sr.
She was a graduate of Danbury High School and had worked throughout the Danbury area as a private home care worker.
Besides her mother, Mrs. Tilford is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Smith of Southbury, Richard Jr. of Kissimmee, Fla., and Bryan of Danbury; a daughter, Patricia McNally of Sandy Hook; and four brothers, Lewis Winters Jr. of Washington, Kenneth Winters of New Milford, Lawrence Winters of Danbury and Arthur Winters, of Johnstown, N.Y.; three sisters, Betty Mae Lilly of Copake, N.Y., and Helen Gillotti and Rosemary Winters of Danbury; an aunt, Mary Montesi of Danbury; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury handled arrangements.

Audrey Trachtenberg, 82, Warren woman�s mother
Audrey (Abramowitz) Trachtenberg, 82, of 675B Heritage Village, Southbury, died June 9, 2006, at her home. She was the widow of Norman Trachtenberg.
Mrs. Trachtenberg was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late David and Fanny (Saltzman) Abramowitz.
She worked as a guidance counselor for many years for the New York school system, including in Manhattan and Staten Island.
Mrs. Trachtenberg is survived by two daughters, Karen Rohrer of Cincinnati and Claire Githens of Warren; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Toffey, 73, first kindergarten teacher at KCS
Irene (Tobin) Toffey, 73, of Great Barrington, Mass., formerly of Kent, died June 9, 2006, after a long illness. She was the wife of John J. Toffey IV.
Mrs. Toffey was born March 8, 1933, in Kent, daughter of the late William R. and Irene (White) Tobin.
She was a 1951 graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, and received a bachelor�s degree and teaching certificate from St. Joseph College in West Hartford. She taught second grade in Sharon before becoming the first kindergarten teacher at Kent Center School.
Mrs. Toffey was actively involved with the Kent Art Association, served as a docent at the Columbus (Ohio) Gallery of Fine Art and was a member and past president of the Sheffield Art League in Massachusetts. She served as guide at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass.
In Great Barrington, she volunteered in several activities, including being a reader for and trustee of Recording for the Blind, and had served as a member of the Democratic Town Committee. She was a communicant of St. Peter�s Church and Our Lady of the Valley, where she taught CCD for many years. Her hobbies included fine art, traveling and tennis.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Toffey is survived by three sons, John V of Barnstable, Mass., Joseph of Falls Village and Edward of Lexington, Kent.; a daughter, Hannah Peters of Weston, Mass.; two brothers, William Tobin and Joseph Tobin of Kent; two sisters, Mary Kirby of Sharon and Kathleen Marcon of Larchmont, N.Y.; and 13 grandchildren.
The Birches-Roy Funeral Home of Great Barrington was in charge of arrangements.

Samford Maier Sr., 89, had been active in Warren
Samford �Sandy� L. Maier Sr., 89, of Cornwall Road, Warren, died May 24, 2006. He was the husband of Dorothy (Schatz) Maier.
Mr. Maier was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Detroit, son of the late Max and May (Bliedenthal) Maier.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the Europe theater of operations, receiving two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Maier was a longtime resident of Warren and worked at the Puro Filter Corp., retiring as vice president. He was a life member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as district commissioner for the scouts in New York City.
He was a member of the Warren Fire Company and had served with the Warren Ambulance Service. He also served as the Warren town treasurer for almost 18 years and was one of the founders of the Prime Timers, a senior citizens group in Warren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Maier is survived by a son, Samford Jr. of Auckland, New Zealand; a daughter, Patricia of Cuernanaca, Mexico; and two grandchildren.

Anthony Wallace Jr., 60, painted Reagan portrait
Anthony E. Wallace Jr., 60, of 6 Caveson Court, Middlebury, died June 6, 2006, at his home. He was the husband of Sigita (Vaitkus) Wallace.
Mr. Wallace was born Nov. 8, 1945, in New Haven, son of Helen (Barton) Wallace of Bloomfield and the late Anthony Edward Wallace Sr.
He was a graduate of Wagner College, where he received a bachelor�s degree in philosophy of religions. He was an Army veteran and later served with the Connecticut National Guard.
Mr. Wallace was an oil painter. His work is exhibited in Tennessee and at the Ninth Life Fine Art Gallery in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgins Islands. A portrait of President and Mrs. Reagan is on display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.
He lived in Simsbury and then resided in New Milford for 14 years before settling in Middlebury in 1997.
Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Wallace is survived by a daughter, Tanya of Milford, and a brother, Richard of Barkhamsted.

Rose Stolfi, 78, was a resident of New Preston
Rose Stolfi, 78, of New Preston died June 12, 2006, at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Nicholas A. Stolfi.
Mrs. Stolfi was born Oct. 20, 1922, in New York City, the daughter of the late Gabriel and Theresa (Forte) Imbimbo.
She was formerly of the Bronx, N.Y. She was a homemaker and a teacher�s aide for the St. Joseph Home for the Deaf in the Bronx and volunteered for many years at the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point in New Port Richie, Fla. She enjoyed cooking and traveling.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Stolfi is survived by two daughters, Angela and her husband Richard Di Palo of New Milford, and Terri and her husband Ben Janson of West Harrison, N.Y.; and four granddaughters, Rose Mary Di Palo and Kimberly, Valerie and Deborah. She was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
