Charles Rowley, 76, graduate of Washington High
Charles A. Rowley, 76, of Huron, Ohio, died April 14 at his home. He was the husband of Eleanor (Filson) Rowley.
Mr. Rowley was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Middleboro, Mass., son of the late Thomas and Janet (Gardner) Rowley.
He was a Sandusky, Ohio, area resident for 32 years, moving from Southington in 1967. He was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School in Washington. He graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in civil engineering and attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh.
An Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served overseas as a combat engineering officer with the 7th Armored Division. He worked at New Departure Hyatt Division of General Motors for 36 years in various assignments, including 11 years as plant manager of the Sandusky operations. He retired as director of purchasing in 1988.
Mr. Rowley was involved in numerous community organizations, including the board of trustees of Firelands Hospital, Chamber of Commerce, Firelands College Board, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, Junior Achievement and the LEADS Program. He was a member of the Plum Brook Country Club and a member and past senior warden of Grace Episcopal Church.
Besides his wife, Mr. Rowley leaves a son, Rob Roy Rowley of Olympia, Wash.; three daughters, JoAnne Rowley of Newburyport, Mass., Pamela Ross of Bellevue, Ohio, and Elizabeth Moritz of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Thomas Rowley of Naugatuck and Alfred Rowley of New Milford; a sister, Louise Wright of Asheville, N.C.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Arrangements were handled by Groff Funeral Home of Sandusky.

Lillian Dorwin, 82, longtime New Milford resident
Lillian W. Dorwin, RN, 82, formerly of Dorwin Hill Road, New Milford, died April 21 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. She was the widow of Millard B. Dorwin Jr.
Mrs. Dorwin was born March 30, 1917, in Terryville, daughter of the late Edward W. and Emma Droheim Winters. She attended schools in Florida and returned to New Milford, graduating from New Milford High School in 1935.
She graduated with a degree in nursing from the Hartford Hospital Training School in 1938. She was first employed at New Milford Hospital and then was employed for many years by local doctors as an office nurse.
Mrs. Dorwin was a member of the First Congregational Church of New Milford for over 50 years and was a former member of the Philothea Circle.
Mrs. Dorwin is survived by a son, Millard "Chip" Dorwin III of Guilford; two daughters, Darlene Hengeli of White House Station, N.J., and Diane Lillis of New Milford; a brother, Roger Winters of Jupiter, Fla.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Winters.

Mary Jane Kirkpatrick, 88, lifelong musician
Mary Jane Genovese Kirkpatrick, 88, died April 24 at her home in Millbrook, N.Y. She was the wife of the recently deceased John A. Kirkpatrick of Zelienople, Penn., and the widow of the late Dr. Frank C. Genovese of Kent.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was born Feb. 6, 1911, in Brewster, N.Y., to James and Marianina Genovese. She was one of five children.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick's musical career spanned 70 years. She taught violin at the age of 14 and played trios on a Brooklyn radio station when she was 19. She played first violin with the Dutnam and Carterson String Quartets, and she was in the first violin section of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra for 20 years.
Her musical interests included opera and ballet. She was active in choral works, and was the organist, soloist, and choir leader at St. John's Catholic Church in Pawling, N.Y., for many years.
Other activities included gardening and landscaping. She was also active in drama, acting in productions sponsored by HAGS, a women's civic group, as well as occasional parts in summer stock at the Starlight Theater in Pawling.
After marrying Dr. Frank C. Genovese on June 12, 1932, the couple moved to Patterson, N.Y., to set up his medical practice, where he served as general practitioner until he retired and moved to Kent. Dr. Genovese died Oct. 8, 1989.
She met her second husband, John A. Kirkpatrick, a Pennsylvania businessman, on a Cunard Cruise. They were married and moved to Millbrook in 1986. Mr. Kirkpatrick died Oct. 8, 1996.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick is survived by her two sons, Frank C. Genovese Jr. of Rochester, N.Y., and James J. Genovese of Anacortes, Wash.

Judith Dike, 66, had been Kent School librarian
Judith (Sharp) Dike, 66, of 607 Long Mountain Road, New Milford, died April 21 at Cook Willow Convalescent Home in Plymouth.
Mrs. Dike was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Hall, England, daughter of the late Bernard and Dorothy Sharp. She was a graduate of Columbia University in New York City.
Mrs. Dike was the librarian at Kent School from 1976 until she retired in 1998. A New Milford resident for 31 years, she was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in New Milford and had been a member of the church's vestry.
Mrs. Dike is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Dike of Deering, N.H., and Bruce Dike of New Jersey; and a sister, Brenda Swinton of British Columbia, Canada.
Arrangements were handled by the Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford.
Lelah Losee, 73, had lived in New Milford
Lelah (England) Losee, 73, of 4 Michael Koury Terrace, Torrington, died May 10 at Valerie Manor Health Care Center in Torrington.
Mrs. Losee was born in Indianapolis, Ind., May 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Oscar and Lelah (Bloxcam) England.
She had lived in New Milford from 1972 until 1982, when she moved to Torrington.
Mrs. Losee is survived by two sons, Robert Losee of Torrington and George D. Losee of Southbury; a daughter, Carol R. Kanuk of Pennsylvania; a brother, John England of North Massapequa, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Joyce, 65, father of New Milford men
Robert W. Joyce, 65, of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Brookfield, died Sept. 29 in Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, Fla., following a brief illness.
Mr. Joyce taught Industrial Arts at Joel Barlow Regional High School in Redding from 1959 until retiring in 1988. In 1986, he received recognition for Outstanding Teacher of the Year. He was a member of National Education Association and the Connecticut Education Association, the Masonic Lodge in Boynton Beach and Danbury and the Boynton Beach Square Club.
A very active member of the Congregational Church of Brookfield and Boynton Beach, he was a member of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department, Candlewood Company, in Brookfield.
Mr. Joyce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Grace C. Joyce, of Boynton Beach; two sons, Kevin E. Joyce and Scott A. Joyce, both of New Milford; a brother, Donald E. Joyce of Boynton Beach; a nephew, Dennis E. Joyce, of Wading River, Long Island; and a cousin, Nancy Wheeler, of Trumbull.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at the Brookfield Congregational Church, Route 25, Brookfield. Burial will follow in Stepney Cemetery, Monroe. Arrangements are being handled by Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, Boynton Beach.

Lelah Losee, 73, had lived in New Milford

Dorothy Hartley, 89, mother of Washington woman
Dorothy M. Hartley, 89, of 433 Scott Road, Waterbury, died May 7 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of James E. Hartley Sr.
Mrs. Hartley was born Feb. 4, 1910, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Edward and Delilah Maloney. She was a graduate of Crosby High School and St. Mary's School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and worked at St. Mary's Hospital.
She is survived by a son, James E. Hartley Jr. of Waterbury; a daughter, Jane Hartley of Washington; and four grandchildren.

Dian Croteau, 61, had been a teacher's aide
Dian (Burbank) Croteau, 61, of 40 Cross Patch Road, Charlestown, R.I., wife of 38 years of William D. Croteau, died May 9 surrounded by her family at home. She was born in Stafford.
Mrs. Croteau was a resident of Enfield most of her life, moving to New Milford in 1970 and to Charlestown in 1992. She was a 1954 graduate of Enfield High School, and was employed as a teacher's aide in the New Milford school system, retiring in 1992.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel and his wife, Christine Croteau, of Michigan and Paul W. Croteau of New Milford; a daughter, Susan M. Croteau of Danbury; two grandsons, William and Samuel Croteau; and a stepbrother, Thomas Martin of Milford. She was predeceased by her mother, Laura (Gallant) Burbank Martin in 1994.

Marie Alesi, 87, had grandsons in New Milford
Marie Alesi, 87, of Barnum Road, New Fairfield, died May 9 at Ashlar of Newtown. She was the widow of James Alesi.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., May 27, 1911, a daughter of Phillip and Pauline (Attenasio) Allegrante.
Mrs. Alesi was a buyer for Abraham & Strauss Department Stores. For the last three years, she made her home with her son Philip in New Fairfield.
Besides Philip, she is survived by two brothers, Anthony Allegrante of Florida and Philip Allegrante of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; a sister, Pauline Kane of Florida; four grandchildren, Penny Alesi-Kaffka of New Fairfield, Phillip Alesi of New Milford, James Alesi of New Fairfield and Joseph Alesi of New Milford; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church.

George Wilmot, 66, was brother of New Milford woman
George E. Wilmot, 66, of Bethlehem, died May 8 at Bennington Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt.
Mr. Wilmot was born July 13, 1932, in Norwalk, son of Amelia (Kocian) Wilmot of Norwalk and the late Samuel Wilmot.
He was a self-employed builder and electrician. A member of the Woodbury-Southbury Gun Club, he was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.
Besides his mother, Mr. Wilmot is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Wilmot and Mark Wilmot, both of South Royalton, Vt., Randy Wilmot of Groton, Vt., and Steven Wilmot of Wachese, N.C.; two daughters, Jolinda Platt of Waterbury and Susan Woodfield of Naugatuck; a brother, John Wilmot of Trumbull; two sisters, Terry Wilmot of Norwalk and Lorraine Coll of New Milford; and nine grandchildren.
