Elenore I. Lucas, 77, mother of New Milford man
Elenore I. Lucas, 77, wife of Emil L. Lucas, died June 23 at her home in Garland, Maine.
A former Newtown resident, she was born in Trumbull Dec. 4, 1921.
Mrs. Lucas's courage, strength and optimistic spirit graced her family and all who knew her.
Surviving are five children, including three sons, Robert J. Lucas of New Milford, John W. Lucas of Brookfield, and Wayne V. Lucas of Newtown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kate and Jeff Stiles of Benton, Tenn., and Linda and Rob Clewley of Garland; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and an uncle, George and his wife Dot Baltovich of Pennsylvania.
The Brookings-Smith Funeral Home of Maine was in charge of arrangements.

William Bray, 76, worked for CBS and ABC
William J. Bray, 76, husband of Helen (Marson) Bray, of Candlewood Lake Estates, Sherman, died June 25 at home.
Mr. Bray was born in the Bronx, N.Y., Sept. 9, 1922, son of the late William and Kathleen (Kilgallon) Bray.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He graduated from Fordham University with a degree in accounting.
Mr. Bray worked for American Cyanamid in New York City and was then transferred to Danbury to set up the first computers at Davis and Geck. From there he returned to New York to work for CBS and was transferred to Santa Maria, Calif. Returning from California, he worked for ABC until his retirement.
He moved to Sherman in 1976 and served on the Candlewood Lake Authority for several years and as chairman. He spent his retirement summers working at Segalla Country Club, Amenia, N.Y.
He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Sherman.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, Jack, of Florida; a sister, Kathleen Giantonio of Rocky Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Shelnut, 70, father of Warren man
Richard Edward Shelnut, 70, of 74 Main St. North, Woodbury, died June 28 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Jacqueline (Shea) Shelnut.
Mr. Shelnut was born May 28, 1929, in Northampton, Mass., son of the late Charles and Elvira (Schuler) Shelnut.
He attended schools in Northampton and graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts.
He moved to Woodbury in 1962 and worked for Uniroyal of Naugatuck before starting his own carpentry business.
Besides his wife, Mr. Shelnut is survived by a son, Brian Shelnut of Warren; two daughters, Lynn Martin of Athol, Mass., and Dianne Slater of Woodbury; a sister, Marilyn VanIderstine of Ashfield, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere was in charge of the arrangements.

Marie Chirgwin, 73, survived by family in area
Marie D. (Gill) (Russell) Chirgwin, 73, died June 29 at her home in Jamesburg, N.J., from complications of congestive heart failure.
Mrs. Chirgwin was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Bridgeport, to Frederick Gill Sr. and Marie (Rainford) Gill. She attended school and worked in Bridgeport. At age 15 she won the national roller skating championship.
In 1946 she married Thomas G. Russell Sr. They divorced in 1972 and in 1979 she married Lester D. Chirgwin Jr. A longtime resident of Bethel, she also lived in Stamford, Vermont and Florida. She was an accomplished needleworker and spent many hours making quilts for her family and friends.
Mrs. Chirgwin is survived by her husband, Lester D. Chirgwin Jr.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Karen Russell of New Milford, Dean and Penny Russell of Cranbury, N.J., and Todd and Melissa Russell of Danbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Russell) and Howard T. Barrett of Starksboro, Vt.; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Dorothy Gill of Brookfield; a sister-in-law, Ruth Gill of Fairfield; grandchildren and a great-grandchild, Thomas Russell III of New Milford, Terence Barrett and his fiancee Tara Perkins of Burlington, Vt., Melissa Barrett and her friend Joshua Bell of Washington, D.C., Ryan Barrett of Burlington, Vt., Andrew Barrett of Starksboro, Michael and Britney Russell of Cranbury, Daniel, Steven and Emily Russell of Danbury and Nicholas Russell of Danbury.
Mrs. Chirgwin is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews; best friend Noreen Fry and her family of Bethel; and stepdaughters Katharine Schwind and her family of Bellevue, Wash., Marguarite Howard and her family of Fairhaven, Mass., and Melody Finn and her family of Arboles, Colo.
Mrs. Chirgwin was predeceased by her mother, father and stepmother Jessie Gill, and by brothers Harry Gill and Frederick Gill Jr.
Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 9:30 a.m. at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., and proceed to the Church of St. Mary in Bethel for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Bethel.
Donations in Mrs. Chirgwin's memory may be made to the Salvation Army or to Princeton Hospice, 208 Bunn Drive, Princeton, NJ 08540.

Clifford Sadler, 88, was owner of Sadler Aircraft
Clifford E. Sadler, 88, died June 25 at his home in Stuart, Fla. He was the husband of Ruth Sadler for 69 years.
Mr. Sadler was born in Meriden April 1, 1911, the son of George F. and Eleanora Sadler. He was a Danbury resident for 60 years, Danbury Airport manager for 45 years and owner of Sadler Aircraft Services at Danbury Airport.
Mr. Sadler flew with many famous aviators, including Charles Lindbergh and Frank Hawks. He was a master mechanic, avid flyer and model train enthusiast.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dale Sadler and his wife Carole of New Milford and Glenn Sadler and his wife Joan of Palm City, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, P.O. Box 1168, Stuart, FL 34995-1168, or Visiting Nurses Association, 2400 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart, FL 34996.

Rose Marie Samuelson, mother of New Milfordite
Rose Marie Samuelson of Danbury died June 24 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Emil C. Samuelson of 166 Old Brookfield Road.
Mrs. Samuelson was born in the Bronx, N.Y., daughter of the late Joseph and Filomina Latronica and received her education there. She came to Danbury 35 years ago and worked as a salesperson at D.M. Read department stores. She was a member of St. Gregory Church in Danbury.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Dwayne J. Samuelson of New Milford; a daughter, Donna Marnelakis of Danbury; three grandchildren, Austin and Devin Samuelson and Christine Marnelakis; and several nieces and nephews.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Nott Sr., 63, longtime K-C employee
Michael Walter Nott Sr., 63, husband of Dorothy (Ammerman) Nott, of 9 Old Stone Road, Gaylordsville, died June 28 at his home.
Mr. Nott was born in Milton Mowbury, England, July 12, 1936, a son of the late Walter and Olive (Hack) Nott. He had lived in New Milford for the past 38 years. He had been employed as a staff assistant at the Kimberly-Clark Corporation in New Milford, where he worked for 37 years, retiring in 1996.
In Gaylordsville, Mr. Nott was a member of the board of trustees for the Gaylordsville United Methodist Church, a member of the Gaylordsville Historical Society and secretary-treasurer of the Morningside Cemetery. He was also a member of the Connecticut Yankee Antique Machinery Association in Kent.
Besides his wife, Mr. Nott is survived by four daughters, Terry A. Nott of Sherman, Kimberley J. Morea of New Milford, Barbara J. Nott-Wooley of New Milford and Penny S. Russell of Cranbury, N.J.; two brothers, Thomas Minns of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, and John Nott of Loughton, Essex, England; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Michael W. Nott Jr.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford was in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Dwy, 77, was longtime Kent resident
Helen V. Dwy, 77, of Kent, died July 15 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon. She was the widow of Robert H. Dwy.
Mrs. Dwy was born March 11, 1922, in Swoyerville, Pa., daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Angelovich) Kivinski. She was a Kent resident for more than 50 years, was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and was a past member of the church's Ladies Guild.
Mrs. Dwy is survived by a son, Daniel R. Dwy of Kent; a daughter, Deborah A. Dwy of Kent; and two sisters, Kate Marlark of Thomaston and Elizabeth Owsley of Libertyville, Ill.
The Colonial Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Peter Kriss, 88, father of Washington woman
Peter A. Kriss, 88, of Olive Street, Danbury, died July 18 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Julia (Mockovac) Kriss.
He was a lifelong Danbury resident, born June 29, 1911, son of the late Joseph and Augusta (Nicholas) Kriss. He attended Danbury schools.
Mr. Kriss had been employed as a laborer at the Vanderbilt Chemical Company, retiring 45 years ago. He had formerly worked as a hatter at local hat shops.
The former baker was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and the Danbury Senior Citizens.
Mr. Kriss is survived by a son, Donald P. Kriss of Front Royal, Va; a daughter, Sharon J. Kriss of Washington; four grandchildren, Eileen Parsons, Mark Kane, Ronald Kriss and Barbara Kriss; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Florence M. Pauli, 87, mother of New Milfordite
Florence M. (Pozemencky) Pauli, 87, wife of Frederick J. Pauli Sr. of Danbury, died at Mediplex of Danbury July 20.
Mrs. Pauli was born in Danbury Sept. 6, 1911, daughter of the late Josephine and Paul Pozemencky. She attended Danbury schools and was a graduate of the Danbury School of Business.
She worked for the former F.H. Lee Hat Company in Danbury for several years and worked for 17 years at the R.F. Amphenol Corporation as a cost accountant.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Mrs. Pauli is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick J. Pauli Jr. and Maura Pauli of New Milford; a daughter, Allyne Grover of Oregon; two grandchildren, Ellen Deskovich and Gary Grover of Oregon; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home in Danbury was in charge of the arrangements.

Julius Lehmann Jr., 54, father of local woman
Julius S. "Skip" Lehmann Jr., 54, of 125 Tioga St., Torrington, died July 15 at his home.
Mr. Lehmann was born April 1, 1945, in Torrington, son of Frieda Grace (Hyers) and Julius S. Lehmann Sr. of Torrington. He was a lifelong Torrington resident.
Besides his parents he leaves a son, Steven Lehmann of Monroe, N.C.; two daughters, Michelle Pullium of Winsted and Kellie Lehmann of Washington; a brother, Paul Lehmann of New Hampshire; a sister, Carol Simmons of Lake George, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
The Gleeson Mortuary of Torrington was in charge of arrangements.
