Gilberte DePault, 73, mother of Kent resident
Gilberte E. (Laliberte) DePault, 73, formerly of 174 Center St., West Haven, died July 13. She was the widow of Rolland DePault.
Mrs. DePault was born July 1, 1926, in St. Paul d'Abbotsford, Quebec, Canada, daughter of the late Arthur and Aurora (Gengras) Laliberte. She came to the United States 45 years ago. She worked at the former Henry Richards Manufacturing Co. in Hamden for 15 years.
She leaves two sons, Theodore J. DePault of Wolcott and Richard B. DePault of Kent; two sisters, Rene Laliberte and Juliette Frechette of Quebec; and a granddaughter.
The Sisk Brothers Funeral Home of Hamden was in charge of arrangements.

Susan S. Scalzo, 59, mother of New Milfordites
Susan S. Scalzo, 59, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., formerly of Danbury and Newtown, died July 13 at Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks.
She was born in Omaha, Neb., April 4, 1940, daughter of the late John T. and Catherine (Holland) Swift. She attended schools in Nebraska and received her B.A. in nursing from California State University, Dominquez Hills.
She was a registered surgical nurse and had worked at Los Robles Medical Center for approximately 20 years. Prior to her moving to California, she had worked as a surgical nurse at New York and New Haven hospitals.
Mrs. Scalzo is survived by two sons, Jonathan Scalzo of Danbury and Jason Scalzo of New Milford; a daughter, Samantha Scalzo of New Milford; and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury, today (Friday) at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Lautenschlager Sr., 68, father of local man
Charles M. Lautenschlager Sr., 68, of 37 Juggernut Road, Prospect, died July 16 at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Lautenschlager was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Southbury, son of the late Charles F. and Edith (Brewer) Lautenschlager. He was a retired machine designist from Scovill, and also worked for Century Brass. He was a member of the VFW in Southbury.
Mr. Lautenschlager is survived by a daughter, Lisa Loeser of Southbury; three sons, Charles M. Lautenschlager Jr. of Prospect, Brett E. Lautenschlager of Bristol and David Lautenschlager of New Milford; two brothers, Melvin Lautenschlager of Santa Fe, N.M., and George Lautenschlager of Cape Cod, Mass.
The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home of Prospect was in charge of the arrangements.

Claire Leroux, 77, mother of Warren man
Claire T. (Gauthier) Leroux, 77, of 75 Norway St., Oakville, died July 17 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of Raymond J. Leroux.
Mrs. Leroux was born June 7, 1922, in Lowell, Mass., daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Ayotte) Gauthier.
She was raised and educated in Lowell and lived in the Waterville section of Waterbury for several years before moving to Oakville, where she lived for 43 years.
She worked for the town of Watertown School Department in the cafeteria and at McCory's Department Store for six years. She enjoyed knitting and was a communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Leroux leaves a son, Raymond "Mike" Leroux of Warren; two daughters, Elaine Leroux of Oakville and Louise Layton of Plymouth; a brother, George Gauthier of Lowell; and three grandchildren.
The O'Neill Funeral Home of Oakville was in charge of arrangements.

James A. Pow Jr., 63, was a Kent resident
James Alfred Pow Jr., 63, of Segar Mountain Road, Kent, died July 17 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington.
Mr. Pow was born in Bridgeport Nov. 12, 1935, a son of James A. and Mary (Baker) Pow.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Southern Connecticut Gas Company of Bridgeport from 1959 to 1982.
Mr. Pow moved to Kent from Bridgeport in 1988 and had last been employed as a maintenance director at High Watch Farm in Kent. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Kent.
Mr. Pow is survived by four sons, James J. Pow of the U.S. Marines at Cherry Point, N.C., Steven A. Pow of the U.S. Navy at Fort Meade, Md., Brendan P. Pow of the U.S. Navy at Boston, and Raymond Guard of Seymour; a daughter, Cynthia Larkin of Ansonia; a brother, Joseph Pow of East Lyme; a sister, Gail Hargrove of North Haven; nine grandchildren; and a beloved friend, Eleanor Baldyga.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Schnell, 65, longtime K-C employee
Donald Francis Schnell, 65, of Curtiss Road, Warren, died July 17 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Amelia H. (Slaughter) Schnell.
Mr. Schnell was born May 5, 1934, in Danbury, son of the late William Frederick and Grace (Sheldon) Schnell. He had served in both the Navy and the Marines as a medical corpsman during the Korean War.
He was employed by the Kimberly-Clark Company in New Milford for 31 years, retiring in 1989 as purchasing coordinator. He had been a Cub Scout leader and had volunteered as a poll worker for elections in Warren. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Aerotherm League at Lake Waramaug Country Club for many years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Schnell is survived by two sons, Donald L. Schnell of New York City and David L. Schnell of Warren; a daughter, Deborah L. Brenner of Warren; a brother, William Schnell of Warren; four sisters, Marjorie Schultz of Bantam, Marion Potter of Kent, Martha Shook and Grace Johnson, both of West Hartford; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Shaela Brenner.
The Rowe Funeral Home of Litchfield was in charge of arrangements.

George A. Beatty, 92, patriarch of area family
George A. Beatty, 92, of 29 Butter Brook Hill Apartments in New Milford died July 15 at his home. He was the widower of Flora (Allen) Beatty.
Mr. Beatty was born in Roxbury Falls March 28, 1907, son of the late George A. Beatty and Rebecca (Long) Beatty.
He retired as a custodian from the Sherman School in 1969. Prior to that, he was employed for 25 years as a milk hauler for the Yankee Milk Company.
Mr. Beatty is survived by three sons, Thomas G. Beatty of Gaylordsville and George A. Beatty Jr. and David E. Beatty, both of Sherman; three daughters, Dorothy Leviness of Venice, Fla., Linda Heinz of Orwell, Vt., and Peggy Beatty of Falls Village; a sister, Catherine Davidson of Deerfield, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Georgia Beatty.

Anna O'Dell, 82, was born in Roxbury
Anna O'Dell, 82, of 19 Poplar St., New Milford, died July 17 at New Milford Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Roxbury, daughter of the late Frank and Katheline (Bakar) Wright. She attended Roxbury schools and was a self-employed practical nurse.
Mrs. O'Dell moved from Roxbury to New Milford in the mid-1960s. There are no immediate survivors.
A private service will take place at West Meetinghouse Cemetery.

Matthew Walsh, 80, was New Milford resident
Matthew J. Walsh, 80, of 33 Willow Springs, New Milford, died Aug. 11 at Danbury Hospital. He was the widower of Mary (Hyland) Walsh, who died in 1965.
Mr. Walsh was born July 9, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Patrick and Bridget (Maloney) Walsh. He was educated in Brooklyn schools and attended City College of New York.
He arrived in this area in 1981 after Union Carbide relocated its headquarters to Danbury. Mr. Walsh was an accountant in Carbide's International Consolidated Division for 44 years, retiring 15 years ago.
He was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield. He was active in square dancing throughout Connecticut and was a member of the Tomahawk Square Dance Club of Brookfield and the State Square Dancing Association, of which he was treasurer.
Mr. Walsh is survived by a son, Matthew J. Walsh of Brookfield; two daughters, Mary Walsh of Plainview, N.Y., and Anna Marie Pizzatola of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Christopher Leisz, Paul and Maryanne Pizzatola and Robert and Bridget Walsh; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Pizzatola; and several nieces and nephews.
The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Andrew 'Bud' Gardella, 88, longtime Roxbury resident
Andrew "Bud" F. Gardella, 88, of Roxbury died Aug. 17 at his home. He was the husband of Joan (MacIntyre) Gardella.
Mr. Gardella was born in Springfield, Mass., son of the late Andrew and Angela (Tualco) Gardella Sr. He spent his early life in Washington and was a Roxbury resident since 1941.
He was an Army veteran of World War II with the 1st Calvary Division in the Philippines, and also participated in the Almiralty Island Campaign.
Mr. Gardella worked for Anaconda American Brass Co. in Waterbury for many years, retiring in 1976. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by three sons, Cameron, Duane and Owen Gardella; a daughter, Andrew DeWitt; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford was in charge of the arrangements.

L. Earl Groeschner, 91, father of New Milfordite
L. Earl Groeschner, 91, of Gulfport, Fla., died Aug. 9 at home. He was the husband of Arline Groeschner.
He was born in South Norwalk, son of Louis G. and Ethel (Byxbee) Groeschner. He moved to Danbury in 1973.
Mr. Groeschner was a printer for 50 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the Advent Christian Church in East Norwalk and attended First United Methodist Church of Gulfport. He was also a member of the East Norwalk Boat Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert E. of Norwalk and Donald L. of New Milford; and four grandchildren.
