Louise Rowinski, 88, was born in Bridgewater
Louise B. Rowinski, 88, formerly of Burlington Road, Harwinton, died Jan. 31 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Frank H. Rowinski.
Mrs. Rowinski was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Bridgewater, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Dyda) Baske. She lived in this area most of her life.
A 1928 graduate of New Milford High School, she was employed by Waring Products in New Hartford for more than 27 years until her retirement in 1976.
She was a member of the Harwinton Sundowners and the Ladies Society. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
She is survived by a son, David Rowinski of Berkeley, Calif.; a brother, Joseph Baske and his wife, Theresa, of New Milford; two sisters, Genevieve Randall of Glastonbury and Elizabeth Baske of New Milford; a brother-in-law, Stanley Rowinski and his wife, Helen, of New Hampshire; two nephews, Dennis Randall of Southington and Charles Baske of Ninety-Six, S.C.; four nieces, Joan Gibbons of New Milford and Donna Baske of Black Rock, Barbara Bobowick and Jane Fitzgerald, both of Sandy Hook; seven great nephews and nieces; and five great-great nephews and nieces.
The Gleeson Mortuary of Torrington was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Linebarger, 44, brother of New Milfordite
Robert A. Linebarger, 44, of 340 Reservoir Road, Southbury, died Jan. 30 at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Linebarger was born Jan. 26, 1956, in Flushing, N.Y., son of James Robert and Jane Tybring Linebarger. He had been a resident of Southbury for over 15 years.
An employee at the East Hill Nursing Home in Southbury, he was a former employee of the Southbury Training School.
Mr. Linebarger is survived by three brothers, James Linebarger of Middleburg, N.Y., Ronald Linebarger of Shelton and George Linebarger of New Milford; three sisters, Miriam Steskla of Boling Brook, Ill., Jane Roller of Shelton and Gail Sawicki of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews.
The Riverview Funeral Home in Shelton was in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria Wiik, 78, dies in Kent
Gloria A. Wiik, 78, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Tuesday at The Kent. She is the widow of Reino A. Wiik.
Mrs. Wiik was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Hebb's Cross, Nova Scotia, a daughter of the late George and Grace Selig Hebb. Mrs. Wiik lived most of her life in Worcester before moving to New Milford in September 1999.
Mrs. Wiik is survived by a daughter, Patricia G. Werme of Sherman; a sister, Pauline Smith of Westford, Mass.; two grandchildren; a niece and several nephews.
Colonial Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of arrangements. Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Domenico Rosa, 73, brother of Roxbury resident
Domenico F. Rosa, 73, of 170 Hillside Ave., Waterbury, died Jan. 31 at his home.
Mr. Rosa was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Waterbury, son of the late Domenico and Carmela (Zaccagnini) Rosa.
He was a licensed home improvement contractor and did business as New England Home Improvement Company for many years.
Mr. Rosa was a deputy sheriff with the New Haven County Sheriff's Department in recent years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on a minesweeper in the Pacific theater.
A prominent athlete who competed in several sports on local and state level during the 1940s and 1950s, Mr. Rosa was named to All-City, All-League and All-State football teams while he was in high school.
He was elected captain of the University of Connecticut football team in his senior year and remained active with independent teams after college.
Mr. Rosa is survived by a son, Peter Rosa of Medford, Long Island, N.Y.; two brothers, James Rosa of Roxbury and Edmund Rosa of Oakville; two sisters, Mildred Anderson of Waterbury and Beatrice D'Ambrose of Oakville; and two grandchildren.
The Maiorano Funeral Home in Waterbury was in charge of the arrangements.

Antoinette Castronova, 78, mother of New Milfordite
Antoinette (Cecere) Castronova, 78, of 107 Osborne St., Danbury, died Jan. 26 at Mediplex of Danbury. She was the widow of Angelo Castronova.
Mrs. Castronova was born April 26, 1921, in Italy, daughter of the late Alexander and Rose (Ciampanella) Cecere. She moved from Bronx, N.Y., to Danbury in 1998.
She is survived by a son, Robert Castronova of Seabright, N.J.; three daughters, Joanne Cooley of New Milford, Carol Banks of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Leila Leshi of Lebanon, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Wolcott, 88, mother of Bridgewater man
Dorothy (Horton) Wolcott, 88, of East Hill Woods, Southbury, died Jan. 27 at East Hill Woods Health Center. She was the widow of L. Jerome Wolcott.
Mrs. Wolcott was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Elmira, N.Y., daughter of the late Jay and Anne (Cleveland) Horton.
She is survived by two sons, Peter Wolcott of Bridgewater and L. Jerome Wolcott Jr. of Costa Mesa, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere of Southbury was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Wall, 58, was born in Washington Depot
Elsie "Sister" Wall, of Main Street North, Torrington, died Jan. 26 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. She was the widow of Joseph E. Wall.
Mrs. Wall was born May 15, 1941, in Washington Depot, daughter of the late Peter and Nellie (Brennan) Servidas. She attended local schools and later worked in security for Gleason, Colo.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Wall and Edward Wall, both of Woodbury, and Peter Wall of Torrington; two daughters, Terri Wall of Naugatuck and Laurie Gray of Wolcott; three brothers, Benjamin Servidas of Wisconsin, Edward Servidas of Naugatuck and Frank Servidas of Oakville; a sister, Margaret Pickett of South Carolina; and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Wyant.
The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere was in charge of arrangements.

Sean McCaffery, 52, had been outstanding athlete
Sean Michael McCaffery, 52, of Marble Dale, died Jan. 24 at New Milford Hospital.
Mr. McCaffery was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late John and Dorothy (Kane) McCaffery.
He was an outstanding athlete at Washington High School. He was recruited by the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Kansas City Royals baseball teams to play professional baseball.
He was also recruited by the North American Soccer League to help build a roster of professional soccer players in the United States.
After a soccer injury at Fairleigh Dickinson University, he concentrated his energies on the music scene in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He managed the Troubadour Night Club and designed sound and lights for The Roxy, both of which were major venues for musical performance in Los Angeles at the time.
In addition, he designed sound and lights for the great American Music Hall in San Francisco. He completed a number of concert videos, including one by Dizzy Gillespie, featuring such young talents as John Faddis.
Mr. McCaffery was interested in documenting the life of the small cabaret setting which he felt was in danger of being overshadowed by larger arenas and stadiums. He also painted watercolors, read Eastern Spiritual philosophy and was a wonderful listener and a wise and humorous commentator on worldly issues.
Mr. McCaffrey is survived by three brothers, Peter McCaffery of Boston, Padraic McCaffery of Philadelphia and Richard McCaffery of San Francisco; and a niece and three nephews.

Mary Jakubek, 82, had lived at local care center
Mary A. Jakubek, 82, of Marjorie Manor, Danbury, died Jan. 25 at the Candlewood Valley Care Center in New Milford. She was the wife of the late John Jakubek.
Mrs. Jakubek was born in Holyoke, Mass., Oct. 22, 1917, daughter of the late Boleslaw and Mary A. (Sulewski) Nitkiewicz.
She received her early education in Holyoke schools. She later moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she graduated from high school.
Mrs. Jakubek had been employed by the U.S. Aviation Underwriters Insurance as a proofreader, transposing materials to microfilm. She retired after 10 years of service at age 65.
Mrs. Jakubek was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury, and while in Brooklyn, a member of St. Cyril Methodist Church, the Ladies Guild and St. Ann's Society.
She had maintained a summer home in Danbury since 1954 and moved there three years ago.
She is survived by two sons, John J. Jakubek and his wife Lorraine of Westford, Mass., and William Jakubek and his wife Alice of Danbury, with whom she made her home; a sister, Cecilia Szczecina of West Islip, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Harry Thorp, 72, father of Sherman residents
Harry William Thorp, 72, of Parrish, Fla., formerly of Brewster, N.Y., died Jan. 19 in Vidalia, Ga., unexpectedly. He was the husband of Florence (Hinsch) Thorp.
Mr. Thorp was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Brewster, the son of the late Harry and Emma (Wilsea) Thorp. He attended Brewster schools and had lived in Brewster most of his life before moving to Sarasota, Fla., in 1973.
Mr. Thorp worked for many years for the Suburban Propane Company and retired in 1990. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Glenn Thorp of Sherman; two daughters, Karen Brown of Sarasota, Fla., and Wendy Foley of Sherman; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Alfred Coleman, 72, father of area residents
Alfred W. Coleman, 72, died Jan. 27 at Ellenville Community Hospital, Ellenville, N.Y. He was the husband of Florence "Sue" (Wuchter) Coleman.
Mr. Coleman was born in Milford, Mass., June 27, 1927, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Waters) Coleman. He was a resident of Ellenville since 1986 and prior to that, a resident of Newtown. He was the former owner and chef of the Newtown Inn.
Mr. Coleman was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 308 in Newtown. He was a former member of the Newtown Fish and Game Club and a past president of the Rondout Valley Rod and Gun Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by six sons: Michael Coleman of New Milford, Timothy Coleman of Plainville, Daniel Coleman of Waterbury, Arthur Degenhardt of Waterbury, Kim S. Degenhardt of Los Lunas, N.M., and Jay S. Degenhardt of Sandy Hook; five daughters, Margie Coughlin of Newtown, Maureen Sanzone of Waterbury, Debora Garre of Orange, Donna Coulson of Wolcott and Terri D. White of Warren; a sister, Dorothy Pantano of Hartwick, Mass.; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Roy Coleman, Charles Coleman and Harold Coleman.
The Honan Funeral Home of Newtown was in charge of arrangements.
