Edward Barnhart, 58, was born in New Milford
Edward "Barney" C. Barnhart, 58, of Sila Drive, Saugerties, N.Y., died suddenly March 29 at his home. He was the husband of June (Gollsneider) Barnhart.
Mr. Barnhart was born July 25, 1941, in New Milford, a son of the late Hugh and Agnes Viola Raino Barnhart.
He was a graduate of the State University of New York at Morrisville.
He retired from IBM Kingston in 1996 after 29 years as a staff level publicist. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was an accomplished musician and played in many bands.
A former member of the Musicians Union, Mr. Barnhart was an avid sportsman and enjoyed golf, softball and bowling. He was past president of the IBM Golf League.
Besides his wife of 32 years, he is survived by a brother, Hugh Barnhart of Florida; an aunt, Margaret Begnoche of New Milford; and a nephew, William of Florida.
The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment in New Preston.
The Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. of Saugerties, N.Y. was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Mahoney, 60, brother of Sherman woman
Walter W. "Bill" Mahoney, 60, of Huntington Drive, Harwinton, died March 28 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Cynthia (Mason) Mahoney.
Mr. Mahoney was born July 19, 1939, in Bristol, son of the late Walter and Delia (Finnemore) Mahoney.
He was a resident of Bristol and Burlington before moving to Harwinton 29 years ago.
Mr. Mahoney served on the Bristol Police Department for 17 years as a patrolman and detective, and worked in the Identification Division as the department's photographer.
After his retirement in 1984, he worked in security at ESPN for 10 years. He was an Army veteran and a Boy Scout leader for more than 15 years.
Mr. Mahoney was a member of the Harwinton Historical Society, Bristol Fish and Game Club and Retired Bristol Police Officer's Association. He was a member of the Harwinton Congregational Church and served as a deacon.
Besides his wife of 39 years, Mr. Mahoney is survived by three sons, Thomas Mahoney of Harwinton, Terrence Mahoney of Torrington and Timothy Mahoney of Prospect; a daughter, Traci Mahoney of Harwinton; a sister, Jo Ann Heinz of Sherman; and five grandchildren.
The Funk Funeral Home of Bristol was in charge of arrangements.

Walter 'Jed' Pickett Jr., 73, was a Superior Court judge
The Honorable Walter M. "Jed" Pickett Jr., 73, of 42 Christian St., New Preston, died April 19 at his home. He was the husband of Florence "Toppy" Turner Pickett.
Judge Pickett was born June 3, 1926, in New Haven, son of the Honorable Walter M. and Katherine T. (Baldwin) Pickett.
He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Navy.
Judge Pickett graduated from Romford, Taft School, Yale University and the University of Connecticut Law School.
He had served as a judge of the Connecticut State Superior Court since 1978.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Greer Campbell of Boca Raton, Fla.; a stepson, Reese Owens of New Preston; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Marie Sheehy, Sarah Hotchkiss and Louise Waterman.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Washington on the Green.
Burial will be private.

Marjorie Sakren, 77, had been a local teacher
Marjorie Sakren, 77, of Kent Hollow, Kent, died March 15. She was the wife of the late Bill Sakren, artist and cartoonist.
Mrs. Sakren was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., daughter of the late Joseph and Elna Rosay.
She was a teacher and expert in special education in the regional school district in Washington. She served as regional coordinator before she retired.
Mrs. Sakren also worked for the Farmington Board of Education and aided them in setting up programs for emotionally disturbed and learning disabled children.
Mrs. Sakren was a 1944 graduate of Park College, where she received a bachelor's degree. She received her master's degree and teaching certification in 1971 from Bank Street College of Education in New York.
After those degrees, she furthered her education with studies at San Francisco State University, Central Connecticut State College, University of London Institute of Education and the University College Galway, Ireland.
Ireland became her second home in the 1970s, where she renovated an old farmhouse at Lough Brin, County Kerry. She and her husband traveled across the United States, Europe and central and South America. In her later years she traveled to Russia and Thailand.
Mrs. Sakren is survived by three sons, Paul Sakren of Kent Hollow, Jed Sakren of Scotsdale, Ariz., and Marko Sakren of Las Vegas; a sister, Jane Thurston of Mill Valley, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Charles Sturdevant, 64, father of New Milford woman
Charles J. Sturdevant, 64, of Eva Drive, Brookfield, died at Bethel Health Care, April 17. He was the husband of Ina M. Sturdevant.
Mr. Sturdevant was born in Danbury May 12, 1935, son of the late Charles W. and Irene (Renner) Sturdevant.
He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1952. His young life was spent in Danbury, and he moved to Brookfield 40 years ago.
Mr. Sturdevant was a veteran, serving in the Army for two years. He was employed in the security department at Pomperaug Woods, Southbury, for 12 years until his illness forced him to leave. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield.
Besides his wife, Mr. Sturdevant is survived by three daughters, Lynda M. Sullivan and her husband, Timothy J., of New Milford, Eve Sturdevant and her husband, George Blass Jr., of Brookfield, and Cheryl S. Hussain and her husband, Imran, of Manhattan; and four grandchildren, Diana L. Maldonado, Jacqueline S. Blass, Timothy J. Sullivan Jr. and Tyler C. Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, today (Friday) at 10 a.m. Owing to the solemnity of Holy Week, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date.
Interment will be in Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Jennie Granata, 76, mother of New Milford man
Jennie "Dee" Granata, 76, of Putnam Lake, N.Y., died April 15 in Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Anthony M. Granata.
Mrs. Granata was born March 4, 1924, in Greenwich, a daughter of the late Vincent and Philomena (Cavalier) Palaia.
She was a member of Putnam Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the local bowling league and Putnam Lake Community Council. She also was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Putnam Lake, N.Y.
Mrs. Granata had been employed as an inspector and machine operator at Amphenol R.F. Products in Danbury, retiring in 1989 after 10 years of service. Prior to her employment at Amphenol, she had worked at Pawling Plastics for 10 years.
She had lived in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., before moving to Putnam Lake 36 years ago. She was married on March 21, 1943, in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Granata is survived by a son, Louis Granata of New Milford; two sisters, Josephine Ritacco of Brewster, N.Y., and Rose DeMattia of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Emilie Stirnweiss, 82, longtime local resident
Emilie (Hennessey) Stirnweiss, 82, of 191 South Kent Road, Gaylordsville, died April 13 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of Andrew P. Stirnweiss.
Mrs. Stirnweiss was born in New York City July 29, 1917, a daughter of the late James P. and Emily (Vosburgh) Hennessey.
She spent her early life in New York City and moved to Kent in 1941. She had been employed at the Barn Shop in Kent from 1970 to 1981. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Kent.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Stirnweiss is survived by a son, A. Paul Stirnweiss of Wassiac, N.Y.; four daughters, Patricia A. Bryant of Millersville, Md., Margaret S. Lillis of Great Falls, Va., Elizabeth Soper of Alexandria, Va., and Evelyn (Lyn) Stirnweiss of Cornwall; a sister, Mildred Gifford of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandsons.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Michael F. Glover, 36, had worked in New Milford
Michael F. "Grover" Glover, 36, of 15 Paul St., Danbury, died April 14 at Danbury Hospital due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was the husband of Kerry (Knapp) Glover.
Mr. Glover was born Sept. 3, 1963, in Danbury, son of the late James and Jean (Craw) Glover.
He lived in the Newtown area all his life, loved motorcycling and worked at Consulting Engineering & Development in New Milford.
Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers, James Glover of West Dover, Vt., and Robert Glover of Walden, N.Y., and a sister, Sharon Trudeau of Sandy Hook.
The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere was in charge of arrangements.

Julia Stone, 78, sister of New Milford woman
Julia H. Stone, 78, of Bungay Road, Seymour, died April 13 at her home.
Mrs. Stone was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Derby, daughter of the late Harry A. and Amelia (Gressot) Healey.
She was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mrs. Stone was a hairdresser and owned the former Julia's Beauty Salon before she retired. She was also a member of the Seymour Grange.
Mrs. Stone is survived by a son, Randy F. Stone of Enfield; a brother, Harry Healey of Seymour; four sisters, Harriett Martin of Seymour, Katherine Rossignol of New Milford and Alice Sertic and Elizabeth Brice, both of Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home of Seymour was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Dufresne, 57, active in Sherman community
Robert Dufresne, 57, of Sherman died April 16 in Aston, Pa. He was the husband of Noreen (Dertadian) Defresne.
Mr. Dufresne was born in Manhattan April 14, 1943, a son of Annette (Trépanier) Dufresne and the late Arthur Dufresne.
He was raised in the Bronx and learned the art of cabinet-making from his father. He was the owner of his own firm, Avenue Custom Kitchens, for over 30 years. Prior to moving to Sherman 11 years ago, he lived in Scarsdale, N.Y.
He served on the Sherman School Building Committee and worked for passage of the referendum to expand the school. He was a founding member of the Sherman Merchants and Tradesmen Association. He was also involved with the Historical Society and Community Playground.
Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Dufresne is survived by a daughter, Ani; a son, Rody; and a sister, Susan Poulin of Carmel, N.Y.
The Cargain Funeral Home of Carmel, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.
