Helen Olivett, 81, leaves relative in New Preston
Helen Guffey Olivett, 81, of Brewster, N.Y., died April 24 in New Milford. She was the widow of Roy Guffey and James Lewis Olivett.
Mrs. Olivett was born Nov. 1, 1918, in New Fairfield, a daughter of Festus and Edith May (Joyce) Eastwood. She had attended schools in North Salem and Purdys.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth C. Booth of Carmel, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Pamela Goethner of New Preston and Barbara Guffey of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Guffey.
The Beecher Funeral Home of Brewster was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial service for Ethel Louise Hills
A memorial service for Ethel Louise Hills, who died Jan. 21 in East Chatham, N.Y., will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at 11:30 a.m.
The service will be held at the Gaylordsville United Methodist Church on Route 7 in Gaylordsville.
Miss Hills, formerly of Gaylordsville, was the daughter of the late Newton and Ruby (Hall) Hills.
She is survived by five brothers, Robert of Meriden, Gordon of New Milford, Eugene of Chatham, N.Y., Donald of Spencertown, N.Y. and Charles of High Point, N.C.; and two sisters, Gladys Wells of Holmes, N.Y. and Anita Koch of Rocky Mount, Va.
Burial was in Morningside Cemetery, Gaylordsville.

Rose Jaskolka, 84, was born in New Milford
Rose (Wazanowski) Jaskolka, 84, of 87 Boardman Road, New Milford, died April 23 at her home. She was the widow of the late John Jaskolka.
Mrs. Jaskolka was born Aug. 15, 1915, in New Milford, a daughter of the late John and Anna Wazanowski.
She attended local schools and was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford.
Mrs. Jaskolka is survived by three grandchildren, John J. Jaskolka, Joseph A. Jaskolka and Jennifer Jaskolka, all of New Milford. She was predeceased by a son, John Jaskolka, and a brother, John Wazanowski.
Interment will be at convenience of the family.

Eleanor Ebers, 89, longtime Washington resident
Eleanor (Mackay) Ebers, 89, of Washington Depot, died April 7 at her home. She was the widow of Earle S. Ebers.
Mrs. Ebers was born March 14, 1911, in Prince Edward Island, Canada, daughter of the late D. Wallace and Margaret E. (MacLean) Mackay.
A longtime Washington resident, she was active in the First Congregational Church, the Washington Garden Club and the VNA Thrift Shop.
Mrs. Ebers is survived by two sons, Robert Ebers of Torrance, Calif., and James Ebers of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Jean Howell of Sherborn, Mass.; and two grandsons.

Bernard Wright Sr., 83, father of Bridgewater men
Bernard T. Wright Sr., 83, of Bethel died April 28 at his home. He was the husband of Mabel (Mulford) Wright.
Mr. Wright was born in Caribou, Maine, Aug. 19, 1916, a son of the late Judson and Elsie (Lewis) Wright.
He attended public schools in Caribou and graduated in 1935.
While in school, he was active in Boy Scouting, cross country skiing and other winter sports.
Mr. Wright joined the Civil Conservation Corps and surveyed roads and trails in the Maine Forest, while pursuing his hobby of fishing. He met his wife Mabel in Bridgeton, N.J., in 1939, and they were married Aug. 17, 1940.
In 1938, he attended the Bartlett School of Arboriculture and then joined the Albert W. Meserve Tree Service of Danbury in 1940.
In 1970, Mr. Wright bought the company, then sold out his interest in 1973. In 1974, he started the Wright Tree Service in Bethel with his son Edward, later being joined by his son Bernard Jr. in 1976. In 1981 Mr. Wright retired, turning his share over to his two sons.
He had been a member of the Connecticut Tree Protective Association for 22 years, where he served as treasurer and was also a member of the International Society of Arboriculture and the New England Chapter of I.S.A., where he served on the Board of Governors.
Mr. Wright served as tree warden for the town of Bethel and retired after 34 years of service.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bethel, where he was active on the Board of Trustees for many years and served as chairman of the Building Committee for the Church Sunday School. He was also active in Boy Scouting sponsored by the Church.
Mr. Wright was active in the Masonic Order, starting in 1951, when he joined Eureka Lodge No. 83 in Bethel. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1956 and was a past president of the Fellowcraft Club and the Temple Association.
He was also a member of the Greenwood Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for 25 years and also served as patron. He was a member of the York Rite, where he served as High Priest of Eureka Chapter No. 23, T.I.M. of Wooster Council No. 28 and as commander of Crusade Commandery No. 10.
Mr. Wright also served as Grand Custodian of the Work, District No. 2 of the Grand Chapter of Connecticut, and was Grand Rep to Germany, and also Grand Rep to Michigan of the Grand Council of Connecticut.
He was a member of the Anointed High Priest, The Council of Anointed Kings, Ct., York Rite College, Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Sovereign Order of Knight Preceptor, The Mohawk Council of Knight Masons USA and the Masonic Veteran Association of Connecticut.
In 1957, he organized Laurel Chapter of DeMolay and served as chairman of the Advisory Board and Dad Advisor. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a daughter, Carol Lee Norman of Bethel; two sons, Bernard T. Wright Jr. and Edward Wright, both of Bridgewater; three grandchildren, Rebecca Eck, Jennifer Cleveland and Sarah Andrade; two great-grandchildren, Victor Tomanio and Hanna Grace Eck; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence Butler Jr., 65, had lived in Washington
Clarence "Buck" Butler Jr., 65, of Cover Plains, N.Y., died May 2 at Sharon Hospital. He was the husband of Lois Collister Butler.
Mr. Butler was born in Bolton Landing, N.Y., July 4, 1934, a son of the late Clarence Butler Sr. and Elizabeth Weller Butler Lamphear.
He was raised in Bolton Landing and served in the United States Army, having been stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
In 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Butler moved to Washington. He worked at Underwood Services, J.P. Stevens, the Highway Department and the road crew for the town. He also worked at Kimberly-Clark in New Milford.
The Butlers moved to Dover Plains in 1986.
Mr. Butler was a member of the state auxiliary police, the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and the Gage-Zumpf American Legion.
Besides his wife of 43 years, Mr. Butler is survived by a son, Allen Butler of Winchester, Va.; four daughters, Linda Chappuis of Greencastle, Pa., Robin McHan of New Preston, Mona Butler of Orlando, Fla., and Debra Bringhurst of Winchester; six brothers, Robert Butler of Lake George, N.Y., Forest Butler of Bolton Landing, Harold Butler of Hubert, N.C., Morris Butler of Bolton Landing, Douglas Butler of Texas and David Butler of Warrensburg, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Cole of Houston, Texas; two half-brothers, Jacob Norton of Adirondacks, N.Y., and James Norton of Arkansas; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a half-brother, Clayton Woods, and a half-sister, Elizabeth Norton Graves.
A memorial service will take place today (Friday) at 2 p.m. at the Northville Baptist Church on Little Bear Hill Road in New Milford.

William Richmond, 87, owned Bill's Bait and Tackle
William F. Richmond, 87, of Danbury, N.H., formerly of New Milford, died April 26 in Elliot Hospital, Manchester, N.H. He was the husband of Marion (Wanzer) Richmond.
Mr. Richmond was born Nov. 24, 1912, in New Milford, a son of the late William L. and Kate (Bowers) Richmond.
He attended New Milford schools and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17.
Mr. Richmond owned and operated Bill's Bait and Tackle in New Milford for nearly 50 years. He was also the owner and operator of Bill's Boats, also known as Richmond's Landing, at the Old Town Park on Lake Candlewood in New Milford.
He was a skilled machinist and had been employed by numerous companies in southern Connecticut and eastern New York.
Mr. Richmond was an avid bowler and bowled the first 300 game in the old New Milford Lanes on Sunny Valley Road. He was a Past Master of Metichewan Grange.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David Richmond of San Marcos, Calif.; a daughter, Martha Plaisted of Danbury, N.H.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Richmond, and two sisters, Marguerite Richmond and Dorothy Barton.

Garrett S. Rave, 60, was a resident of Kent
Garrett Stratton Rave, 60, of Kent-Cornwall Road, Kent, died May 1 in Saratoga, N.Y. He was the husband of Madelyn (Schulze) Rave.
Mr. Rave was born in Hempstead, N.Y., June 22, 1939, son of the late Elmer and Gene (Stratton) Rave.
He was employed as a district credit manager at Alliant Foodservice, Inc. of Clifton Park, N.Y. Prior to that he was employed as collection manager of Mortgage Lenders Network, USA of Middletown. He was vice president of the commercial loan department of Union Trust Co. of Stamford from 1987 to 1993.
He was corporate credit and collection manager of Quantrex Corporation of Bethel from 1979 to 1987. He was assistant vice president of Dutchess Bank and Trust Co. of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Mark Rave of New York; a daughter, Tamra Rave-Harris of Kent; three granddaughters, Jessica, Melissa and Cassandra; a sister, Almagene Noonan of Melbourne, Fla.; and a niece and nephew.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:30 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford. Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home tomorrow from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Elsie Schultz, 87, was former longtime resident
Elsie S. Schultz, 87, died April 14 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mrs. Schultz was born in Litchfield and moved to Jacksonville in 1976. She had lived in New Milford for many years.
She worked in retail sales until her retirement in 1976.
A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Schultz worshipped at the Arlington Congregational Church in Jacksonville.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Schultz of Jacksonville; a son, Donald Schultz and his wife, Donna, of Florida; and a granddaughter, Kelley Schultz.
Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville.
