Corinne Monk, 75, sister of New Milford woman
Corinne M. Monk, 75, of Stamford died Aug. 5 at Stamford Hospital.
Miss Monk was born in Stamford Dec. 31, 1924, the daughter of the late Walter Monk and Lydia (Russo) Monk Halpin.
She graduated from Stamford High School in 1943. She worked in a law office for several years and with the nursing staff at Stamford Hospital for over 30 years.
Miss Monk was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Stamford.
She is survived by a sister, Virginia Kellner of New Milford; a niece; three nephews; two grandnieces; and a grandnephew.
A funeral service will be held at the Bouton & Reynolds Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, today (Friday) at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at the St. John Cemetery, Darien.
Joan D. Buch, 69, mother of Kent resident
Joan D. Buch, 69, of Crossbrook Road, Newtown, died Aug. 7 at Laurelwood Nursing Center, Ridgefield, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Buch was born in Bristol April 11, 1931, daughter of the late Emile and Harriet (Schienke) Dion. She was a resident of Newtown for 36 years.
Mrs. Buch was employed in retail sales at the J.C. Penney store in Danbury for the past 10 years.
She was a charter member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookfield. For many years, she was active in the PTA in Newtown. She was a driver for Newtown Meals on Wheels and a member of the County Consort Madrigal Group.
Mrs. Buch is survived by a son, Peter Buch of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four daughters, Martha Richter of Bradford, R.I., Kathy McKee of Newtown, Janet Downes of Kent and Nancy Whiteley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Warren Dion of Terryville; two sisters, Audrey Sefter and Lorraine Petke, both of Southington; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Brook McKee.
A memorial service will be held at the Newtown Meeting House (at the flagpole in Newtown), today (Friday) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger White, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Kent, officiating.

Einar Strand, 88, was active in local organizations
Einar T. Strand, 88, of 19A Butter Brook Hill, Apartments, New Milford, died Aug. 5 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the husband of Theresa (Donovan) Strand
Mr. Strand was born in Regan, N.D., Jan. 10, 1912, a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Fossun) Strand.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in the Pacific theater. In 1947, he joined the General Bronz Corp. in Garden City, N.Y., retiring as a foreman in 1974.
Mr. Strand moved to New Milford in 1974 from Rockaway, N.Y. He was a life-member of the Ornamental Ironworkers Union, Local 580 of New York City.
In New Milford, he was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, a member and former board member of the AARP of New Milford, a past president of the Butter Brook Residents’ Association, a past president of the Advisory Board of the Commission on Aging, a member of the Newbury Fellowship Association of Brookfield and a life member of Andrew B. Mygatt Post 1672 of the VFW of New Milford.
Mr. Strand is survived by two daughters, Christine McGrath of Litchfield and Katherine Mulvey of Massapequa, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Drusilla Phelps, 91, was a native of Washington
Drusilla (Carlson) Phelps, 91, of 5550 Rotunda Blvd. West, Rotunda West, Fla., died Aug. 1. She was the widow of Berkeley M. Phelps.
Mrs. Phelps was born Aug. 19, 1908, in Washington, daughter of the late John E. and Mary (Grisell) Carlson.
She was graduate of Danbury State Teachers College, now known as Western Connecticut State University. She taught in the Washington elementary school system, retiring after 30 years.
She was an active member of Alpha and Delta and Kappa of Litchfield County. She moved to Rotunda West from Washington.

John McDonald, 74, father of New Milford man
John “Jack” F. McDonald Sr., 74, of Brookfield, died Aug. 6 at The Kent. He was the husband of Carolyn (Turnepseed) McDonald.
Mr. McDonald was born April 1, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Charles and Grace (Murphy) McDonald.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired as plant manager for Clear Dimensions, Ltd., in Wolcott.
Mr. Strand enjoyed flying and had a small-plane pilot’s license. Formerly of Levittown, L.I., he and his wife moved to Brookfield in 1959.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, John F. McDonald Jr. of New Milford and Michael McDonald of Wolcott; three daughters, Jill Walsh of East Northport, N.Y., Maureen Crocker of Rockland, Mass., and Laura Marchionna of Southbury; three brothers, Charles McDonald of Clinton, Donald McDonald of New Hyde Park, N.Y., and Thomas McDonald of Simsbury; four sisters, Grace Burkhardt and Eileen Damiani, both of Jackson Heights, N.Y., Gladys Hoeg of New City, N.Y., and Virginia McGowan of Trumbull; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kristin Marchionna, a brother, Robert McDonald, and a sister, Dorothy Mongello.

Kevin Connelly, 26, resident and avid chess player
Kevin P. Connelly, 26, of New Milford and formerly of Villa Park, Ill., died suddenly Aug. 2 at his home.
Mr. Connelly was the son of Robert Connelly of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and Patti Connelly of Villa Park.
He had been a resident of Villa Park for 24 years and was a 1992 graduate of Willowbrook High School.
He had lived for two years in Connecticut, where he was an accountant for Cendant Mobility in Danbury.
He was an avid chess player and enjoyed computers.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Sean and Ryan of Villa Park; a grandfather, Norvin Hackhel of Lombard, Ill.; a grandmother, Julia of Woodridge, Ill.; and many aunts and uncles.

Elmer C. Hill, 68, was longtime area resident
Elmer C. Hill Jr., 68, of River Road, Washington, died Aug. 11 at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Geyer) Hill.
Mr. Hill was born March 4, 1932, in New Milford, son of the late Elmer C. and Margaret (Kupesky) Hill.
He attended local schools in New Milford and had been a United States Army Korean War veteran. He was employed for 28 years by the Kimberly-Clark Corp. After his retirement, he became a home improvement contractor.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and a former member of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and had served as town constable. He was also a member of the New Preston Congregational Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, David of Litchfield and Michael of Raleigh, N.C.; four daughters, Kerry Saharek of Washington, Kathleen Holden of Cornwallville, N.Y., Julie Schwindt of Sharon and Elena Hill of Taylors, S.C.; two sisters, Frances Vincent and Alice Beyer of New Milford; and 12 grandchildren.

William Blore Jr., 39, leaves relatives in New Milford
William B. Blore Jr., 39, of 61 Sheridan St., Danbury, died Aug. 11 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Sharon (Ultsch) Blore.
Mr. Blore was born in Norwalk. He was a graduate of Danbury High School and attended Western Connecticut State University and Norwalk State Technical College.
He was active in Danbury school baseball teams. While he was in junior and senior high school, he received the Most Valuable Player Award. He worked as a machinist for Ambel Inc., of Bethel.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tiffany of Bethel; a son, William B. Blore III of Bethel; his mother, Mary Blore Fantin of Weston; his father and stepmother, William B. Blore Sr. and Linda L. Blore of New Milford; three brothers, John M., Brian T. and Randall S., all of New Milford; two sisters, Cynthia Ruffner of Boston and Kimberly Tuttle of New Milford; his maternal grandmother, Beatrice Skirpan of Tennessee; and many nephews and cousins.

Carol K. Poprocki, 71, was a New Milford resident
Carol K. Poprocki, 71, of New Milford died Aug. 11 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the wife of Joseph A. Poprocki.
Mrs. Poprocki was born in Manhattan May 8, 1929, a daughter of the late Edward A. and Kathryn (Carroll) Kelleher.
She had been a resident of New Milford for over 21 years. Prior to her marriage she was a supervisor at AT&T. During the Korean War she worked with the USO in New York. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Duguary, of Fairfield; a grandson, Robert Poprocki, of New Milford; and cousins Agnes, Miriam and William Kelleher of New York.

Frederick Leary, 75, father of New Milford resident
Frederick J. Leary, 75, of Spring Forest, S.C., formerly of Danbury, died July 7. He was the husband of Florence C. (Flemming) Leary.
Mr. Leary had been employed as a mechanic for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Richard J. of Mendham, N.J., Thomas F. of Long Beach, Calif., Matthew J. of New Milford and Michael S. of Norwalk; a daughter, Margaret Mary (Leary) Hoskins of Fenton, Mo.; two sisters, Elizabeth Murphy of Florida and Winifred Beers of Danbury; a brother, Robert of Florida; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John P. Leary.
Funeral services were conducted in South Carolina.
Carl Plummer, 68, father of New Milford man
Carl G. Plummer, 68, of Danbury and Wittman, Ariz., died Aug. 14 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Plummer was born in Redding Feb. 28, 1932, the son of the late Gerald and Sigrid (Lindstrom) Plummer.
He attended schools in Weston and Westport and graduated from the Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury. He also attended Maricopa Technical College in Arizona.
Mr. Plummer served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and worked as a mechanical designer, specializing in government contracts.
He is survived by two daughters, Christine and Marie Plummer of New Fairfield; two sons, Carl of New Milford and John of New Fairfield; two sisters, Shirley Leak of Escondido, Calif., and Geraldine Duffy of New Milford; a brother, Joseph Plummer of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Amanda Plummer and Vincent Drone; and his longtime companion, Helena J. Corrigan.
Memorial services will be held in the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Aug. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.
