Albert Q. Vogel, 76, father of Sherman woman
Albert Q. Vogel, 76, of Meadowbrook Road, Danbury, died at his home Oct. 23. He was the husband of Leona (Ouellette) Vogel.
Mr. Vogel was born in Waterbury May 4, 1924, son of the late Q. Albert and Sarah (Osborne) Vogel.
He moved to Danbury as a boy and had been a resident there for 65 years. He was a graduate of Danbury High School’s Class of 1941.
Mr. Vogel served as an MP with the Third Army in the European theater during World War II.
He had worked as a toolmaker with the Risdon Manufacturing Co. of Danbury for many years prior to his retirement. He was also an accomplished guitarist and had played with several local bands.
Mr. Vogel was a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local No. 87, and a former member of the Danbury Fish and Game Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Albert of Danbury; three daughters, Alison Pane of Danbury, Laura Clarke of Sherman and Susan Fairchild of Newtown; a sister, Barbara Zinser of Danbury; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude Lassen and Nel Luf.

Paul Boisvert, 90, was a longtime Kent resident
Paul Boisvert, 90, of Kent, died Oct. 21 at The Kent, specialty care facility, in Kent. He was the husband of Edith (Bohrmann) Boisvert.
Mr. Boisvert was born Jan. 19, 1910, in Salem, Mass. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater.
Mr. Boisvert was last employed as a food service manager at Harlem Valley State Hospital in Wingdale, N.Y., retiring in 1965. He moved to Kent from New Rochelle, N.Y. in 1943.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters. The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth Pokrywka Gerbi, 54, was born in Roxbury
Elizabeth Pokrywka Gerbi, 54, always known as “Liz”, died peacefully at home with her family in Hartford after a long illness. She was the wife of John V. Gerbi.
Mrs. Gerbi was born in Roxbury to Mary L. (Billyou) Pokrywka of Roxbury and the late Albert J. Pokrywka. She was a longtime resident of Millbrook, N.Y.
She graduated with a degree in economics from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury with a masters degree in education. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta.
Mrs. Gerbi taught mathematics and music at a number of public and private schools, including The Kildonan School for dyslexics in Amenia, N.Y., and Dutchess Day School and St. Joseph's School, both in Millbrook. She was always a good teacher that cared deeply about her students.
Mrs. Gerbi was a member of the Millbrook Central School District Board of Education for six years, serving as president from 1992 to 1993. She was especially proud of the improvements made to Alden Place School during her tenure. She was a member of the Dutchess County and New York State School Boards Associations.
She was a longtime member of the St. Joseph's Church Choir and served there as music director from 1992 though 1996. She was also a member of the Millbrook Community Chorus and Millbrook Summer Theater.
Besides her mother and husband of 31 years, Mrs. Gerbi is survived by four children, John C. Gerbi and his wife, Shannon, of Fishkill, N.Y., and their son Zachary James Gerbi, Jennifer E. Gerbi, who is currently at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Ill., Mary C. Gerbi of Fishkill and Elizabeth A. Gerbi, who is currently at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.; a sister, Marion P. Eagen of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; and a brother, Albert S. Pokrywka of Roxbury.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m., followed by a gathering at the home of Kenneth and Elizabeth Hubbard on Booth Court in Millbrook.

John Slaughter, 85, was longtime Kent resident
John C. Slaughter, 85, of Kent Hollow Road, Kent, died Oct. 14 at his home. He was the husband of Lorraine (Hanke) Slaughter.
Mr. Slaughter was born Oct. 11, 1915, in Campbell Hall, N.Y., son of the late Frederick and Laura Slaughter.
He moved to Kent in 1950 from New Fairfield. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a self-employed cabinet maker and a member of the Danbury Bowling Hall of Fame.
Besides his wife, Mr. Slaughter is survived by a son, Crawford Slaughter of Warren, and three daughters, Beverly Gottlieb of Kent, Lorraine Myers of Canaan and Susan Hatley of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Philip Cocozza, 51, brother of New Milford woman
Philip M. Cocozza, 51, of Brewster, N.Y., died Oct. 11 at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, N.Y. He was the husband of Jacqueline A. (Tierney) Cocozza.
Mr. Cocozza was born in Bronx, N.Y., Sept. 6, 1949, a son of Albert and Madeline (Mantovano) Cocozza Sr.
He graduated from Brewster High School in 1968. He was a Brewster resident since the early 1960s where he was co-owner and operator of A&M Carting for 37 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly of Brewster; five stepchildren, Jacqueline Heintz of Southbury, Michael Heintz of Beacon, N.Y., Peter Heintz of Seymour, Carolyn Butler and Daniel Heintz, both of Brewster; a brother, Albert Jr. of Dover Plains, N.Y.; a sister, Dolores Gaboury of New Milford; and three step-grandchildren, Kayla Iannetta, Matthew and Kevin Heintz.
Harriet Neumann, 84, had lived in New Milford
Harriet F. Neumann, 84, of Stephanie Drive, New Milford, died Oct. 14 at Filosa Convalescent Home in Danbury. She was the wife of the late George F. Neumann Jr.
Mrs. Neumann was born in New York, N.Y., June 2, 1916, daughter of the late Frederick and Florence (Kingsland) Fennikoh.
She had lived in New Milford for 13 years, having moved from New York. She worked as secretary for the Union of Operating Engineers in Bryercliff Manor, N.Y., for 25 years, retiring in 1981.
She is survived by a son, George III of Brookfield; a daughter, Janet H. Schwartz of Mahopac, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Arthur, Christopher, Tyson and Trevor; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Fennikoh of Livingston Manor, N.Y.; and a nephew.

Alice Mazza, 68, sister of New Milford woman
Alice R. Mazza, 68, of 11 Grandview Ave., Danbury, died Oct. 13 at her home. She was the wife of Ralph J. Mazza.
Mrs. Mazza was born in Danbury March 13, 1932, a daughter of the late Walter and Delia (Dusenberry) Waterhouse.
She attended Bethel schools and had been a Danbury resident for more than 40 years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Tommi Delzell and her husband Patrick of Danbury and Connie Joyce and her husband Paul of Pineville, La.; three sisters, Carrie Licciardi of Danbury, Edith Barton of Bethel and Dora Lynch of New Milford; and three grandchildren, Jamie, Ty and Sterling Joyce.
Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, today (Friday) at 7:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
Wilfred Andrews, 60, leaves friends in the area
Wilfred E. Andrews, 60, of 705 Elmwood St., Sioux Falls, S.D., died Oct. 9 after a brief illness at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Mr. Andrews was born Feb. 5, 1940, in St. Davids Grenada, British West Indies. He was raised and educated in Grenada, later immigrating to the United States. He was a coining supervisor at Medallic Arts in Danbury for 20 years.
Mr. Andrews was transferred to Sioux Falls in 1990 where he worked for Tri-State Mint. In 1995, he began working for Raven Industries and worked there until his recent illness in August of 2000. In his free time, he was an avid reader and sports enthusiast.
Grateful for having shared his life is Mary Kay Callahan of Danbury; her children, Donald Knight Sr. of Danbury and Mari-Beth Knight-Enis of Kent; two brothers, Michael and Doug Andrews of Grenada, BWI; a sister, Marjorie Whiteman of Ontario, Quebec, Canada; and a host of friends.

Bruce Bailey Sr., 75, was active in Washington
Bruce Mason Bailey Sr., 75, of Litchfield Road, Washington, died Oct. 12 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.
Mr. Bailey was born in New London May 28, 1925, son of the late Horace E. and Melvina P. (Mason) Bailey.
He was a graduate of Post College in Waterbury and a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bailey was the former owner of Washington Sanitation Service and also worked for Electric Boat on the Nautilus project.
He was a justice of the peace in Washington and a member of American Legion Post 87 in Washington, the Washington VFW and the Washington Rod and Gun Club. He was involved with duckpin bowling leagues in Litchfield and Woodbury.
Mr. Bailey is survived by three sons, John of Torrington, Edward of New Milford and Bruce Jr. of Washington; a daughter, Ann Raynor of Kent; a stepfather, James Rosa of Roxbury; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Washington Green Cemetery, Washington. The Rowe Funeral Home of Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.

Craig Lewis, 33, was a New Milford High graduate
Craig E. Lewis, 33, of New Milford, formerly of Hyannis, Mass., died at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, Oct. 10 as the result of an automobile accident.
Mr. Lewis was the son of Charles E. Jr. and Marcia Ann (Schneiderhan) Lewis.
He was born in Hyannis and moved to New Milford in 1978 at the age of 11. He was a graduate of New Milford High School Class of 1985. He was a late automotive restorer and mechanic.
In New Milford, he played on the All-State soccer team and All-State hockey team and was voted most valuable player in Babe Ruth baseball.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Mark of Washington, D.C.; grandparents Robert and June Schneiderhan of Spartanburg, S.C., and Jennie Lewis of Weymouth, Mass.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandfather, Charles E. Lewis Sr.

Christa Lang, 91, was sister of Bridgewater man
Christa M. Lang, 91, of 56 North Lakeshore Drive, Brookfield, and a former resident of Spruce Mountain Road, Danbury, died Oct. 13 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert P. Lang.
Mrs. Lang was born in Danbury Aug. 2, 1909, a daughter of the late J. George and Anna Marie Pauline (Schulze) Ruopp. She had been a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Lang was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and had served with the Altar Guild, the choir and as a church school teacher for many years.
She began a career in the hatting industry and had worked for the former Tweedy Silk Mill. She later worked as an electronic assembler, concluding employment at the Gavagan Employment Company. She married in 1932.
Mrs. Lang is survived by a son, Albert Jr.; a daughter, Carol Lang, with whom she made her home; four brothers, Martin Ruopp of Bridgewater, Theodore Ruopp of Newtown and Paul and Frederick Ruopp of Danbury; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Bardo and Helen Ruopp, both of Danbury; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edward Ruopp of Brookfield; three grandchildren, Paul Lang of Torrington, Grace Lang of Hudson, Fla., and Linda Goggins of New Port Richie, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothea Grube, and three brothers, Ernest, Edward and Walter Ruopp.
