Kathy D. Chickvary, 55, was a Sherman resident
Kathy (D’Aprile) Chickvary, 55, of Sherman died Oct. 5 at New Milford Hospital.
Mrs. Chickvary was born in Stamford March 3, 1945, a daughter of the late Edward and Katherine (Passaro) D’Aprile.
She is survived by her life partner, John Hibbard of Sherman; two daughters, Michele Sienkiewicz of Newtown and Alicia Hunniford of Sherman; a brother, James D’Aprile of Stratford; and three grandchildren, Emma Hunniford and Justin and Kevin Sienkiewicz.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

John Mastroddi, 91, father of New Milford man
John L. Mastroddi, 91, of Prospect Drive, Brookfield, died Oct. 6 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rose Mastroddi.
Mr. Mastroddi was born in Rome, Italy, Sept. 1, 1909, the son of the late Vincent and Rose (Fillipo) Mastroddi.
He came to this country as an infant and lived in Wallingford and Norwalk before moving to Brookfield 20 years ago.
He was retired from the United States Army as a master sergeant and had served from May 1926 to June 1962, during both World War II and the Korean War. Following his retirement, he had worked as circulation manager for the Norwalk Hour in Norwalk. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Brookfield.
He is survived by a son, John II of New Milford; three daughters, Patricia A. Greco of Brookfield, R. Barbara Falcone of Montville, N.J., and Cathy S. Fereday of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; two sisters, Catherine Nugent of California and Rose Dell of Wallingford; a stepbrother, Clinton Daniels of Salem; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Jean S. Olson, 83, had lived in New Milford
Jean (Stewart) Olson, 83, died Oct. 29 in New York City. She was the wife of the late James C. Olson.
Mrs. Olson was born in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, Sept. 6, 1917, to William J. and Emma (Hanson) Stewart.
She grew up in Illinois and received her baccalaureate degree in 1938 from Rockford College in Illinois, where she was president of her class. In 1998, she was awarded the Talcott Cross, Rockford’s highest alumni honor. She received a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago.
She moved to New York and worked in the early days of television advertising, making use of her background in mathematics in conducting surveys and other analyses of television viewing and viewers.
Mrs. Olson married her husband in 1945. They lived in New York City and also at Chimney Point, New Milford, and where they were members of the Candlewood Lake Club.
Mrs. Olson was a born organizer, applying these skills to a number of religious, charitable and professional organizations.
She was an active member in The Brick Presbyterian Church in New York, where she served variously as deacon, elder, Trustee of the Corporation, treasurer and president of the Women’s Association.
She was a volunteer with reading assistance programs in the New York City public schools and was involved at The Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood Center, serving for many years as a member of its board, secretary and chairman of The Adult and Family Learning Center.
Mrs. Olson was also a member of the Board of Directors of The Youth Foundation, based in New York City, and was presented with an Award of Appreciation by Community Narcotics Prevention Program in 1988.
She was also a member of the Cosmopolitan Club in New York City.
Mrs. Olson is survived by two sons, James S. of New York City and David C. of Rye, N.Y.; a daughter, Julia O. Luckenbill of Paoli, Pa.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Stewart of Stamford.

Margaret Hanlon, 85, died at New Milford Hospital
Margaret W. Hanlon, 85, of 48 Bantam Village, Bantam, died Oct. 26 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of the late George W. Hanlon.
Mrs. Hanlon was born in Beacon, N.Y., Oct. 5, 1915, a daughter of the late Winfield K. and Mary (Cummings) Wurster.
She moved to Ridgefield in 1957 from New Canaan. She was an area resident until 1981, when she moved to Bantam.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Bethel. She was an avid reader, writer and artist working in watercolors.
Mrs. Hanlon is survived by three sons, William N. of Bethel, George A. of Ridgefield and Michael P. of Hudson, N.Y.; four daughters, Patricia Clark of Park City, Utah, Marjorie Hanlon-Gardella of Redding, Catherine “Betty” Lischke of Newburyport, Mass., and Sharon Brewer of Wickford, R.I.; a brother, William Wurster of Baltimore; a sister, Catherine Sharkey of Mapleshade, N.J.; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Wurster, and a sister, Beatrice Conway.
The Kane Funeral Home of Ridgefield was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Branco, 72, grandmother of New Milford man
Mary (Shukry) Branco, 72, of 18 Hamilton Drive, Danbury, died Oct. 29 at the Filosa Convalescent Home, Danbury. She was the wife of the late Lino Branco.
Mrs. Branco was born in Danbury Jan. 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Samuel and Wadiha (Chami) Shukry.
She attended Danbury schools and was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Danbury, where she assisted in baking and cooking for various parish functions.
Mrs. Branco is survived by a stepson, Cesario Branco and his wife, Maria of Portugal; a brother, George N. Shukry and his wife, Jennifer of Danbury; three grandchildren, Helena Abrantes and her husband, David, and Paula Graca and her husband, Pedro, all of Danbury and Cesar Branco and his wife, Paulina, of New Milford; and several great-grandchildren.

Grace Dimock, 85, grandmother of New Milfordite
Grace (Darling) Dimock, 85, of Chestnut Grove, New Milford, formerly of Torrington, died Oct. 30 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Gordon S. Dimock.
Mrs. Dimock was born June 24, 1915, in Danbury, daughter of the late Lewis E. and Flora Jennette (Hoag) Darling.
She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1932. She had been employed as a secretary for much of her life.
Mrs. Dimock is survived by a son, Carl A. Gerstenmaier of Las Vegas, Nev.; two granddaughters, Amy Gantert of New Milford and Beth Cornelius of Los Osos, Calif.; and a great grandson.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Nutting-Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, will be private.

Wayne Callands, 35, died in New Milford accident
Wayne Callands, 35, died in New Milford Oct. 24, as a result of a tree-falling accident.
Mr. Callands was born in Danbury Sept. 5, 1965, a son of the late Fred A. and Lucy B. (Harris) Douglas.
He graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1984. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was employed by the Kerslake Tree Service of New Milford.
Mr. Callands was a former furniture mover. He enjoyed all sports and fishing.
He is survived by three brothers, Theodore, Michael and Donald, all of Danbury; a sister; Diane of Waterbury; his longtime companion, Nancy Terzigni; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Grace Dascano, 83, mother of New Milford woman
Grace A. Dascano, 83, a former resident of The Commons, Main Street and Candlewood Park in Danbury, died Oct. 29 at Pope John Paul II Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Christian J. Dascano, who died in 1990.
Mrs. Dascano was born in Danbury July 2, 1917, daughter of the late Stanislaw and Angelena (Caruso) Cecilio.
She received her education in local schools. She was a homemaker and also worked for many years at the New England Shirt Factory in Danbury and had retired as an assembler and inspector for the Bard Parker Corp. in Danbury after 10 years of employment.
Mrs. Descano was an active member of St. Gregory Church and attended St. Peter Church while living at The Commons. She was a member of the Loyal Moose Drill Team in Danbury, the AARP No. 1847 and a Red Cross volunteer.
She is survived by two sons, Christian Jr. of Hancock, N.Y., and Frank of Danbury; four daughters, Shirley Sniffin and Harriet Cervera, both of Danbury, Angie Walker of Dulleon, Fla., and Patricia Jennings of New Milford; a sister-in-law, Pauline Canale of Danbury; two nieces and a nephew; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Nora Bingham, 96, lived at local nursing home
Nora I. Bingham, 96, of 34 Mist Hill Road, Brookfield, died Oct. 26 in the New Milford Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late James J. Bingham.
Mrs. Bingham was born in Newtown July 10, 1904, daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Lynch) Keane.
She was a resident of Brookfield since 1990. She had formerly lived in Passaic, N.J., where for many years she was employed as a bank teller.
Mrs. Bingham is survived by five grandchildren, James of Bedford, N.H., Jerry of Wingdale, N.Y., Jeff of Danbury, Jonathan of Brookfield and Linda Arnold of Torrington; and seven great-grandchildren.

Julia P. Garofalo, 72, was a New Milford resident
Julia Patricia Garofalo, 72, of New Milford, formerly of Danbury, died Oct. 10 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Mrs. Garofalo was born July 17, 1928, in Derby, the daughter of Carmen and Antonette Marie Mongillo.
She was a homemaker in Danbury, where she raised her son, Anthony.
She is survived by seven children, including her youngest son, Anthony, and her daughter-in-law, Emilia I. Garofalo.

Leon Adams, 83, leaves relatives in New Milford
Leon Ray Adams, 83, of Danbury, died Oct. 25 at Mediplex of Danbury. He was the husband of the late Florence Ann (Doscano) Adams.
Mr. Adams was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Centralia, Ill., a son of the late Ralph T. and Freda S. (Strang) Adams.
He grew up in the Georgetown area, attending schools there, and was a graduate of the Danbury High School.
He was employed for 40 years as a boilerman for the Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill in Georgetown.
Mr. Adams was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany as a sergeant in the Tank Corps, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 149, Danbury.
Mr. Adams is survived by a son, Richard of New Milford; a daughter, Maria B. Sniffen of Brewster, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Ann Marie Sanchez of Danbury; a brother, Thomas of New Milford; a sister, Margaret Ludwig of Bethel; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Hull Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
