Marion Richmond, 89, lifelong New Milford resident
Marion (Wanzer) Richmond, 89, died Nov. 6 at the home of her daughter, Martha Plaisted, in Danbury, N.H. She was the widow of William F. Richmond.
Mrs. Richmond was born July 16, 1911, in New Milford, a daughter of the late Fred I. and Edna (Northrup) Wanzer.
She attended the original one-room Hill and Plain School on Sullivan Road and was valedictorian of her class at New Milford High School.
In her youth, she studied piano and was interested in jazz. Later, she was employed at the Robertson Bleachery and at Dean’s Cleaners on Bank Street.
In the 1950s, she joined her husband at Bill’s Bait and Tackle. She worked in the business for 30 years. She was a 70-year member of the Metichewan Grange and a past secretary.
Mrs. Richmond was an avid bingo and card games player. She enjoyed needlepoint and cross stitch. She and her husband were lifelong residents of New Milford until moving to New Hampshire in 1999.
Besides her daughter in New Hampshire, Mrs. Richmond is survived by a son, David of San Marcos, Calif.; a sister, Alice Peck of Yucaipa, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Ralph.
The family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, today (Friday) from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Genevieve O’Connor, 89, had lived in New Milford
Genevieve (Grund) O’Connor, 89, of 167 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, died Nov. 4 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the wife of the late Daniel W. O’Connor.
Mrs. O’Connor was born in Chicago May 5, 1911, daughter of the late Manfred and Josephine (Fischer) Grund.
She had a long career as an executive secretary, beginning as secretary to the president of King Features Syndicate for some 10 years in the 1940s.
She later was executive secretary to the president of the Popular Club Plan in Rockville Center, Long Island. She had last been a legal secretary at the American Can Corp. in Greenwich.
Mrs. O’Connor had lived in New Milford from 1974 to 1994. She moved to Brookfield in 1994. She had also been a volunteer at Tel-Care Program in Danbury.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan O’Connor Seward of Brookfield; two sisters, Marian Collins of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dorothy Wilson of Addison, Ill.; two grandsons, Scott Seward and Dan Seward; and a great-granddaughter, Raphaela Seward. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Christina Seward Bowen.

Nancy Holt, 68, was a New Milford resident
Nancy Ann Holt, 68, of New Milford died Nov. 6 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of the late John W. Holt.
Mrs. Holt was born in Portchester, N.Y., Feb. 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Raymond and Helen (Millman) Hargrove.
She moved to Stamford in her teen years and resided in Bethel before moving to New Milford in 1986.
She was employed by G.E. Capital Corp. in Danbury for 11 years, retiring three years ago. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, New Milford.
Mrs. Holt is survived by a daughter, Tracey Vater of New Milford; four sons, Thomas of Ridgefield, John of Virginia, Dennis of Norwalk and Gary of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Katherine Beck of California; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, David.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial services will be held today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, New Milford. Burial will be private, and at the convenience of the family.

Thomas Hanna, 57, brother of New Milford man
Thomas L. Hanna, 57, of 161 Main St., Danbury, died Nov. 6 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Hanna was born in Danbury Nov. 3, 1943, son of the late Kenneth H. and Christine (Leonard) Hanna. He was a lifetime Danbury resident and had attended Danbury schools.
He had worked for many years as a machinist with the Baldor/Boehm Co. of New Milford and had for many years been involved with the home delivery of The News-Times of Danbury.
Mr. Hanna had been a member of the Padanaram Hose Co. of Danbury for more than 30 years.
He is survived by four brothers, Charles of West Haven, John of Danbury, George of Yonkers, N.Y., and Robert of New Milford; a sister, Emily Hayes of South Amboy, N.J.; and several nieces an d nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William in 1985.
Burial will take place at the family plot in Wooster Cemetery today (Friday) at l0 a.m.

Richard Russo Sr., 57, father of New Milford woman
Richard Cory Russo Sr., 57, of Bethel died Nov. 6 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Judith (Birdsall) Russo.
Mr. Russo was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Aug. 14, 1943, a son of the late Gildo and Nomma (Nelson) Russo.
He was a longtime Bethel resident and was a general partner and vice president of Craftsmen Excavation, Inc.
Mr. Russo was an avid trap shooter, a member of the Seymour Fish and Game Club and the Wolcott and the Pahquioque Gun Clubs. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the Amerigo Vespucci Society and a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Bethel.
Besides his wife of 28 years, he is survived by a son, Richard Jr. and his wife Gloria of Brookfield; two daughters, Brandi Caraluzzi and her husband Steven of Brookfield and Kerri Russo of New Milford; a sister, Dee Mondo of Bethel; and two granddaughters.

Joseph Landers, 79, had lived in New Milford
Joseph Patrick Landers, 79, of Seal Beach, Calif., and formerly of New Milford, died Oct. 26.
He was a World War II veteran and had received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Landers, who was nicknamed “The Rock,” was a corrections officer for the Alcatraz prison facility in San Francisco. After relocating to Connecticut, he spent 23 years with the Federal Corrections Institute.
Mr. Landers is survived by two sisters, Mildred Tanguay and Eleanor Landers of California; a brother, James Landers of Florida; a son, Thomas Landers of the West Coast; two stepsons, John Dennis Ryan Gillen of Huntington, Pa., and William Peter Gillen of New Milford; three stepdaughters, Katherine Leslie of Portland and Elizabeth Rhodes and Virginia Gillen of Torrington; three grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James J. Hartman, 64, was New Milford resident
James J. Hartman, 64, of New Milford died Nov. 7 at his home. He was the husband of Ann Marie (Utera) Hartman.
Mr. Hartman was born in Elmont, N.Y., Oct. 12, 1936, a son of the late John and Margaret Treaner McElroy. He lived in New Milford since 1968.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1955 to 1963.
Mr. Hartman was last employed by Winchester Electronics in New Milford. He was a member of the Andrew B. Mygatt Post No. 1672 VFW in New Milford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, James M. Hartman of Woodstock, Ga., and John P. Hartman, Thomas W. Hartman and William Hartman, all of New Milford; two daughters, Deborah Johnson of New Milford and Linda Hartman of Waterford; a sister, Ann McKenna of New Hyde Park, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Sullivan Road, New Milford. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Ernest Silvernail, 75, had worked at Kimberly-Clark
Ernest Albert Silvernail Sr., 75, of 27 Trudo Road, Altona, N.Y., died Nov. 2 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Mafalda (Sugar) Silvernail.
Mr. Silvernail was born in Salisbury May 2, 1925, a son of the late Clifford and Olive Silvernail.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was an avid camper, hunter and fisherman. He retired after 24 years of service from Kimberly-Clark.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ernest Jr. of Washington Depot and Kim of New Milford; two daughters, Grace Donato of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Pearl Tomascak of New Milford; a brother, Clifford of Massachusetts; eight grandchildren; a great granddaughter, Allison Howard; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert, a sister, Olive, and a son, Dennis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Johanna Szigeti, 65, mother of New Milfordite
Johanna D. Szigeti, 65, of 67 Ramapoo Road, Ridgefield, died unexpectedly at her Ridgefield home Nov. 2. She was the wife of the late Michael Szigeti.
Mrs. Szigeti was born in Germany Nov. 21, 1934, a daughter of Lydia Vogel Dase of Stratford and the late Gustav Dase.
She emigrated to the United States in 1955. A former Norwalk resident, she was previously an emergency room nurse at Norwalk Hospital.
As a Ridgefield resident for the past 40 years, she owned and operated Szigeti Upholstery in Vista, N.Y., and Ridgefield for over 35 years. She enjoyed traveling and, most of all, her grandchildren.
Besides her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Judy Legan of New Milford and Suzanne L. Smith of Avon; three sisters, Helga Steinhuebel of Portchester, N.Y., Traudi Motylenskl of Woodland Park, Colo., and Gisela Coyne of Stratford; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Hedwig Izzo.

John E. Bray, 81, was a native of New Milford
John E. "Jack" Bray, 81, died Nov. 12 in McLeod Regional Medical Center in South Carolina. He was the husband of Doris F. Bray of Hamer, S.C.
Mr. Bray was born May 13, 1919 in New Milford, the son of the late Edwin Bray and Dora (Tuttle) Bray.
He was the retired resource officer for Wellman Industries and was responsible for developing their plastic recycling.
Mr. Bray was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II, during which he served as a sergeant and fought in major battles including Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. He was stationed in Japan, Australia and Samoa. He was since a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Besides his wife, Mr. Bray is survived by three daughters, Sandra Murphy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Maura Story Medley of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Holly B. Tanner of Hamer; three sons, Bruce of Bellow’s Falls, Vt., John of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and David of Pawleys Island. S.C.; a sister, Dorothy Goda of Lady Lake, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
