Vincent Ferrino Jr., 72, ex-husband of New Milfordite
Vincent A. Ferrino Jr., 72, a resident of Danbury for many years, died Jan. 26 at Danbury Hospital after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Ferrino was born in Norwalk April 11, 1928, a son of the late Vincent and Anna Ready Ferrino. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist at Ullman Devices Corporation in Ridgefield.
He is survived by two sisters, Catherine Norton of Bethel and Fidelia Ridgeway of Washington, D.C.; two stepchildren, Serena Wilson of Norwalk and Bill Wood of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion, Linda Wood of Danbury, and his former wife, Eva Barnes of New Milford.
Services will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. in the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church St., Georgetown. The place of interment is to be announced.

Anna M. Gerle, 83, was a New Milford resident
Anna M. Gerle, 83, of New Milford died Jan. 28 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of the late John E. Gerle.
Mrs. Gerle was born in Homer City, Pa., July 5, 1917, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Pluchinsky) Horchar.
She was a Norwalk resident most of her life before moving to live with her daughter and family three years ago.
She retired in 1981 from Pepperidge Farm in Norwalk, where she had worked for 35 years.
Mrs. Gerle is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Mulhare of New Milford; four sisters, Pauline Shachelczyk of Norwalk, Veronica Sweeney of Dayton, Ohio, Agnes Zometsky of Conway, S.C., and Mimi Yanoscisk of Homer City, Pa.; two brothers, Andrew Horchar of Indiana, Pa., and Edward Horchar of Coral, Pa.; four grandchildren, Lisa Drollette, and Robb, Scott and Mike Mulhare; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Nicole, Kyle and Kayleigh; and many nieces and nephews.
The Magner Funeral Home of Norwalk handled arrangements.

Mildred Burgess, 86, aunt of Washington man
Mildred M. (Petruno) Burgess, 86, of 36 West Wooster St., Danbury, died Jan. 24 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Burgess.
Mrs. Burgess was born May 18, 1914, in Danbury, a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Petruno.
She was a 1932 graduate of Danbury High School and worked for many years as a salesperson for the former Sarah Beckerman Store of Danbury.
Mrs. Burgess was a member of St. Peter Church and the AARP Chapter No. 1067.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Alexa Englert and her husband, George of Bethel; three nieces, Cheryl Scattolini of Danbury and Claire LaVigne and Barbara DeVito, both of Pennsylvania; a nephew, William Petruno of Washington; and several great-nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury handled arrangements.

Ellen Finch, 91, was a resident of Roxbury
Ellen (Yates) Finch, 91, of Bacon Road, Roxbury, died Jan. 24 at New Milford Nursing Home. She was the widow of Stanley B. Finch.
Mrs. Finch was born April 14, 1909, in Norwalk, the daughter of the late James and Eliza (Davis) Finch.
She attended local schools. She was a member of the Shepaug Club in Roxbury as well as a seventh-degree member of the Grange. She was also a member of the Roxbury Congregational Church.
She is survived by a son, Ernest Sr. of Roxbury; a brother, James Yates of Kingsbury, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Ernest Finch Jr., Linda Finch-Martin and Barbara Finch-Thompson, all of Roxbury; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Yates.
The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere was in charge of arrangements.

Mark Gillen, 15, was NMHS student-athlete
Mark William Gillen, 15, of 2 Butler Lane, New Milford, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, as a result of a one-car accident on Camp Flats Road in South Kent.
Mark was born in Danbury May 30, 1985, a son of William Peter and Margaret Foley Gillen of New Milford.
He was a member of the sophomore class of New Milford High School. Active at the high school, he was a member of the NMHS Booster Club and a member of the Green Wave cross-country team. He was also a member of the NMHS boys varsity ice hockey team, of which he was the goalie. He was also a member of the school’s track team and Key Club.
He had long been active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Life Scout member of Troop 42 of New Milford and a member of New Milford Explorer Post 25.
He had been employed at Il Colosseo Pizzeria in New Miford. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, a member of the youth group of the church and had been an altar server.
Besides his parents of New Milford, he is survived by a brother, Peter James Gillen of New Milford; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Gillen of Mill Creek, Penn,; and his maternal grandmother, Constance G. Foley of Waterbury.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:30 p.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford in the spring.
Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford today (Friday) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Edward Zaloski, 86, was a New Milford contractor
Edward William Zaloski, 86, of Fordyce Road, New Milford, died Jan. 27 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the husband of the late Marie (Douglas) Zaloski.
Mr. Zaloski was born in Bridgeport Oct. 7, 1914, a son of the late John and Caroline (Korkecka) Zaloski.
He spent his early life in Bridgeport and graduated from Warren Harding High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
After moving to New Milford he had been employed for many years at the former Corey Electric Co. He then became a self-employed electrical contractor in New Milford for many years.
Mr. Zaloski was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford and was a member of the Andrew B. Mygatt Post No. 1672, Veterans of Foreign Wars in New Milford.
He is survived by a son, Thomas of Waterbury; two brothers, Bernard and Alfred of Florida; a sister, Dorothy of Florida; and a granddaughter, Kristen.

June Miller, 83, was mother of New Milford woman
June (Launiere) Miller, 83, of 185 Beard Drive, New Milford, died Jan. 30 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the widow of Charles F. Miller.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 30, 1917, in the Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of the late Henry and Matilda (Fredell) Launiere.
She had lived in Wilton for 45 years and moved to Naples, Fla., in 1989. She moved to New Milford in 1998.
While in Wilton, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Petersen Manufacturing Co. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford.
Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Kathleen F. Haas of New Milford; a brother, Ray Launiere of Southbury; a sister, Lorraine Miller of Wilton; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Carlson.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford handled arrangements.

Ida Weiner, 87, mother of Bridgewater man
Ida (Rubin) Weiner, 87, died Jan. 6 in Miami, Fla. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Woolwich and is survived by her second husband, Clarence Weiner of Hallandale, Fla.
Mrs. Weiner was born in Teplic, Russia, the daughter of Jacob and Sara (Elman) Rubin.
Before moving to Florida, she was employed by Perler’s Bakery in Hartford and Uncle Milty’s Bakery in New Britain and Southington. She was a graduate of Weaver High School in Hartford.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Dr. Daniel Woolwich of Vernon and Elliott Woolwich of Bridgewater; two brothers, Harry Rubin of New Britain and Benjamin Rubin of Southington; a sister, Fay Kacanek of Hernando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Services were conducted in Hollywood, Fla., with burial at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Miami.

Valerie B. Weir, 60, sister of New Milford woman
Valerie (Broderick) Weir, 60, of West Redding died Jan. 30 in Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Ronald Weir.
Mrs. Weir was born in New York City, daughter of the late William J. and Genevieve (McIntyre) Broderick and had been a resident of West Redding for the past 30 years.
She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in health and physical education. She also earned a master’s degree in education.
Mrs. Weir was a teacher in Westport for the last 34 years.
Mrs. Weir formerly coached field hockey, track and volleyball. She coached the girls basketball team at Coleytown Junior High School, Westport, and Immaculate High School in Danbury. In the early 1970s, her team from Immaculate High School competed in the state championship game.
She was also a member of the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club, the Connecticut Audubon Society, Save the Whale, Greenpeace and Friends of Animals.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Joan Renz of New Milford; a nephew; and three nieces.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Audubon Society, 225 Burr St., Fairfield, CT 06430; or the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.
