Jean H. Qubeck, 89, grandmother of New Milfordite
Jean (Hyndman) Qubeck, 89, of Stratford died Feb. 27 in the Ashlar of Newtown Health Care Center. She was the wife of William J. Qubeck Jr.
Mrs. Qubeck was born in Milford to the late James and Jane (Brown) Hyndman.
She was a lifelong Stratford resident and had been an active member of the Bethany Christian Alliance Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, William III and his wife Charlotte of Franklin, Ind.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Scott Humiston of New Milford, Barbara and William Kulp of New Fairfield and William and Christine Qubeck IV of East Lyme; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Walker of Connecticut, Beatrice Rupp of Tocca, Ga., Ruth Hardy of Milford and Lillian Irvins of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Adzima Funeral Home of Stratford was in charge of arrangements.

Sophie N. Page, 83, was a lifelong Kent resident
Sophie (Naboring) Page, 83, formerly of Cobble Road, Kent, died March 3 at The Kent in Kent. She was the wife of the late George C. Page.
Mrs. Page was born in Oct. 13, 1917, in Kent to Frank and Mary Naboring. She was a lifelong resident of Kent.
A graduate of the former Kent High School, Class of 1934, she was the valedictorian of her class.
Mrs. Page had work as a secretary for the former Cliff’s Garage in Kent and then worked a number of years as the assistant town clerk in Kent.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Kent and a member of the Ladies of the Sacred Heart.
She is survived by a son, Thomas S. Page of Kent, and a daughter, Nancy Manley of Northport, Ala.
Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in New Milford in the spring.

Norma J. Olsen, 80, mother of New Milford man
Mrs. Norma J. Olsen, 80, formerly of Clark Road, Pittsfield, Mass., who lived at Devonshire Estates for the past three years, died March 4 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Massachusetts.
She was born in Pittsfield July 26, 1920, the daughter of C. Edwin and Minnie E. Merrill King.
Mrs. Olsen graduated from Pittsfield High School, Class of 1938, and entered the employment of the General Electric Company in the accounting and payroll department.
She worked in both the Pittsfield General Electric and the Taunton, Mass., General Electric for 34 years.
She was later with the Raytheon Company in Stanford for 14 years, retiring from that position in 1982. She moved back to Pittsfield in 1983.
Mrs. Olsen was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational Church, in Pittsfield and the AARP.
She was the widow of William O. Olsen, whom she married Aug. 15, 1942. He died in 1992.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph W. Olsen of New Milford and Richard K. Olsen of Atlanta, Ga.; and two granddaughters, Debbie Boyer of New Milford and Christen Olsen of Atlanta.
Funeral services for Mrs. Olsen will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at the Wellington Funeral Home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Floyd and the Rev. David Jordan officiating.
Burial will be in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.

Aletha (Lee) Woodin, 83, mother of New Milfordite
Aletha (Lee) Woodin, 83, died Feb. 28 in West Plains, Mo. She was the widow of Alvin D. Woodin Sr.
Mrs. Woodin was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Henry and Ada (Zeiner) Webb.
She was a retired bookkeeper and an avid crocheter.
Mrs. Woodin is survived by seven sons, Charles, Alfred, Everett, Edwin, Robert, Floyd and Arthur Rusgrove; three daughters, Linda Williams of West Plains, Susan Williams of Southbury and Denise Woodin of New Milford; five brothers, Henry, Charlie, Merritt, Willie and David Webb, all of New Hampshire; four sisters, Alice Healey of Sutton, Vt., Bea Bandlow of Las Vegas, and Inez Gallagher and Virginia Shephard of New Hampshire; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at South Britain Congregational Church in Southbury.
Stephen Evanuska, 79, father of New Milford woman
Stephen Evanuska, 79, of 84 Hayestown Road, Danbury, died May 14. He was the husband of the late Gene Fairchild Blaska.
Mr. Evanuska was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Danbury, the son of the late Demetri Joseph and Mary (Parchue) Evanuska.
He was a lifelong resident of Danbury. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from the Danbury State Trade School (now known as Henry Abbott Regional Vocational Technical School) as a machinist. While at the trade school he played on the 1938 baseball team, which won the school’s first championship in a sport.
In the 1940 Gold Medal basketball tournament he was selected as the most outstanding player while playing with the Saint Nicholas championship team. He also played football with the East Enders and basketball with the Gas Co’s and the Hoyt-Messinger teams of the pre-World War II Industrial League.
Mr. Evanuska was employed as a toolmaker at the Bard-Parker Company in Danbury when he entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1942. In the military he graduated as an airplane mechanic.
He was sent overseas to England in 1943 and completed 25 combat air missions over Germany and occupied Europe with the 379th Bomb Group (H) of the 8th Air Force. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon with battle star, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He was also the recipient of a personal Distinguished Service Award signed by Major General Lewis E. Lyle and was awarded two Presidential Distinguished unit citations.
After his discharge from military service, he returned to Danbury and was employed at the Barden Corporation as a tool and die maker for 38 years, retiring in 1985. As part of his civic duties he was a member of the Germantown Volunteer Fire Co. No. 10 for many years.
Mr. Evanuska also served as a coach’s aide in the Danbury Little League and later was a coach with the Lebanon-American and Orioles of the PAL Roger Park Baseball league. He was a member and an honoree of the Danbury Old Timers Association in 1996 for his activities in Danbury sports and community service. He also was a poll worker in city elections. He was a member of the AARP and the 379th Bomb Group Association.
Mr. Evanuska is survived by a daughter, Susan of New Milford; a son, Stephen, and daughter-in-law, Pamela, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six grandchildren David Jr., Dawn and Douglas of Danbury, and Sean, Megan and Stephanie of Scottsdale Ariz.; a great-grandson, Justin of Danbury; a sister, Anne Gibson and her husband Chuck of Prescott, Ariz.; and his sister-in-law, Helen Evanuska of Brookfield. He was predeceased by a son, David.
Funeral services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church today (Friday) at l0 a.m.
Burial will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery.

Percy Wilson, 92, was a longtime resident of Warren
Percy S. Wilson, 92, of Warren died Feb. 14 in the Oakwood Health Care Center in Williamsville, N.Y. He was the husband of the late Enea Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was born Jan. 6, 1909, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Sylvester and Mary (Kordak) Wilson.
He attended the Warren school system and moved to New Haven in 1942, where he worked at the U.S. Rubber plant. He spent the rest of his career with the Connecticut State Highway Department. He retired as foreman in 1970 and moved to the family farm on Brick School Road in Warren.
Mr. Wilson enjoyed gardening, carpentry, farming, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, David and his wife Linda of East Amherst, N.Y.; a sister, Ann Slate of Torrington; and two grandsons, Steven and Keith. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Victor, and a sister, Gertrude Strong.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated May 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Cornwall. Burial will follow in New Warren Cemetery.

Rosemarie Seligmann, 77, was active in Sherman community
Rosemarie (D’Amico) Seligmann, 77, of 11 Gelston Road, Sherman, died May 13 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of Robert L. Seligmann.
Mrs. Seligmann was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Rochester, N.Y., a daughter of the late Santo and Angelina (Mazzola) D’Amico.
She was a graduate of the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music. During her teaching career, she taught in various schools in Connecticut and New York, retiring from the Middlebury school system.
She served on the Sherman Zoning Board of Appeals and was a former member and chairman of the Sherman Board of Education for many years. She was active in the Sherman Players, a volunteer at the Sherman Library and an avid bridge player.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Seligmann is survived by two sons, Daniel and Andrew, both of Sherman; three daughters, Catherine Winter of Watertown, Nancy Schumann of Chelsea, Mich., and Lisa Brazzell of Clinton, Ky.; a foster daughter, Marta Larrieu-Let of Miami, Fla.; a brother, Ret. Col. Donald D’Amico of Parkee, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Sarada Marsh, Andrea Linkevich, Damon and Bethany Brazzell, Eric and Jaime Seligmann, Marilyn Hubbell, Katy DeBeau, Kelvin and Teela Seligmann; and two great-grandchildren, David and Claire Marsh.
A memorial service will be held May 26 at 10 a.m. at the Sherman Congregational Church.

Harold Guendelsberger, 75, father of New Milford men
Harold L. Guendelsberger, 75, of Cape Coral, Fla., died May 8. He was the husband of Sophia Guendelsberger.
Mr. Guendelsberger was born in Sandusky, Ohio, and moved to Cape Coral in 1970.
He owned his own restaurant in Ohio and worked as a chef in Florida restaurants. He was a veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife, Mr. Guendelsberger is survived by two sons, Robert and Gary of New Milford; a brother, James of Tucson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Walter Koy, 96, New Milford resident for 30 years
Walter Francis Koy, 96, of Birchwood Drive, New Milford, died May 10 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Hyacinth (Roos) Koy.
Mr. Koy was born in New York City Jan. 14, 1905, a son of the late Gustav and Katherine (Moiser) Koy.
He was employed for 40 years as a master diesel mechanic in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., retiring in 1975. He and his wife moved to New Milford in 1971.
Mr. Koy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church of New Milford.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Hyacinth, who died in 1994, and two brothers, Arthur Koy and John Koy.

John Carrington, 88, father of Washington woman
John F. Carrington, 88, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Waterbury and New Milford, died May 9 at his home.
Mr. Carrington is survived by two daughters, Janice Sullivan of Sun City, Nev., and Jean Suddaby of Washington; a son, Jack Jr. of Brunswick, Maine; a sister, Grace Shum of Waterbury; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Green Hill, (Route 47), Washington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
