Jean S. Baldwick, 96, was a lifelong area resident
Jean (Siskey) Baldwick, 96, of Bantam Village died Dec. 28 at The Kent Health Care Center. She was the widow of Alfred E. Baldwick.
Mrs. Baldwick was born May 4, 1906, in Washington, daughter of the late William and Julia (Tomaszewska) Siskey.
She graduated from New Milford High School, Class of 1926, and lived in New Milford most of her life.
She was a member of the Bridgewater Congregational Church and the Polish National Church of New Milford.
She worked as an assistant chef at Young’s Hotel in New Milford and later was employed by New Milford Motors. She retired in 1971 after 10 years as a secretary in the admission office at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Baldwick lived in Hollywood, Fla., for 16 years before moving to Bantam Village in 1987. She was a member of the Hollywood Methodist Church and a member of the Morris Congregational Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Tanguay and her husband Elmo of New Milford; two sons, Henry and his wife Sandey of New Milford and Edwin and his wife Eleanor of Bridgewater; a sister, Irene Siskey of Kent; a nephew, Frank Perlowsky and his wife Dalene of New Milford; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Carey, 71, was resident of Bridgewater
Elizabeth S. Carey, 71, of Bridgewater died Dec. 30 at her home. She was the wife of Thomas L. Carey.
Mrs. Carey was born in Philadelphia, daughter of T. Walter and Laura Drusilla (Hartzell) Stuart.
She was a graduate of the Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, Pa., and attended Barnard College in New York City.
She had been a member of the Connecticut Chorale Society, the Kent Singers, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the John Oliver Chorale and the Roxbury-Bridgewater Garden Club.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Carey is survived by three daughters, Diane Carey-Pape and her husband Douglas of Montclair, N.J., Dru and her husband Chris Schumacher of New York City, and Elisabeth of North Bergen, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Bronwen and Griffin Schumacher.

Marian Plumb, 85, local native and area teacher
Marian (Newton) Plumb, 85, of Beach Street, Litchfield, died Dec. 10 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. She was the widow of Frederick B. Plumb Jr.
Mrs. Plumb was born June 5, 1917, in South Kent, daughter of the late Leroy S. and Hazel (Katchele) Newton.
She received her teaching certificate from Danbury Normal School, now Western Connecticut University, in Danbury. She then taught in Kent and Litchfield grammar schools.
She helped her husband on the family farm and was an active member of the Litchfield Grange for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Plumb was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Litchfield, the 4-H Club, Litchfield Farm Bureau, Litchfield County Extension Service and the Morris Senior Center.
She is survived by a son, Frederick III of Litchfield; a daughter, Judith Sidorick of Naugatuck; a brother, William Newton of South Kent; and two grandsons.

Cele G. Lalli, 68, was well-known wedding expert
Cele (Goldsmith) Lalli, 68, of Newtown died Jan. 14 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mrs. Lalli grew up in Scranton, Pa., and graduated from Vassar College in 1955. She and her husband, Michael, lived in New York City and Stamford and finally moved to Newtown in the mid-1990s.
Mrs. Lalli wrote three books concerning wedding etiquette and was once referred to as America’s foremost wedding expert. She worked for Modern Bride magazine for 33 years and retired as vice president and editor-in-chief in 1998.
She often appeared on television shows and would share her expertise by leading workshops locally.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Lalli is survived by two daughters, Francesca Morrissey of New Milford and Erica Sullivan of Stamford, and five grandchildren.
Julia McCarthy, 89, mother of Sherman woman
Julia (Spillane) McCarthy, 89, of Danbury died Jan. 13 at her home. She was the widow of Joseph J. McCarthy.
Mrs. McCarthy was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Guineawillow, Rathmore, County Kerry, Ireland.
She traveled to the United States, settling in New York to live with her aunt. She began a full-time job as housekeeper and nanny.
She married and moved to Ossining, N.Y., and raised five children as members of St. Augustine Parish.
Mrs. McCarthy was a longtime member of the Mary McWhorter, Division No. 58, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was honored in 1991 as Hibernian Woman of the Year.
She was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church of New Fairfield.
Mrs. McCarthy is survived by three daughters, Kathleen and her husband Robert Kilmer of New Fairfield, Peggyann and her husband Louis Gioia of Sherman and Sheila and her husband Peter Barrett of Bethel; a daughter-in-law, Jackie of Palm Coast, Fla.; a sister, Peggy of County Kerry; 13 grandchildren, Claire, David, Sue, Dawn, Tim, Karin, Joseph, Julie, Lonn, Honora, Katherine, Peter and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Timothy and Alexandra; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Timothy and Joe.

Frederick Weiss, 68, was a New Milford resident
Frederick L. Weiss, 68, of New Milford and formerly of Greenwich died Jan. 14 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth Weiss.
He was born in Greenwich Dec. 29, 1933, to the late Max and Ida Mae Weiss.
Mr. Weiss was employed as a house painter. He is remembered by family and friends as a beloved husband, father and grandfather and a kind man.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Fritz Weiss of Greenwich and Donald Weiss of Brookfield; two daughters, Amy Novakowski Ostrom of Bethel and Julie Ann Hearty of New Milford; a brother, William Weiss of Stamford; three granddaughters; and two grandsons. He was predeceased by six brothers, Frank, John, Alfred, George, Robert and Edward Weiss, and one sister, Ann Seponik.

Ann Riendeau, 87, was a New Milford resident
Ann (Denis) Riendeau, 87, of 23 Orchard Heights, New Milford, died Jan. 9 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Lawrence G. Riendeau.
Mrs. Riendeau was born May 11, 1914, in Holyoke, Mass., daughter of the late Phillip and Elsie (Beaulieu) Denis.
She moved to New Milford in 1943 and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
She is survived by a son, Robert and his wife Patricia of Southbury; a daughter, Jean Ericson and her husband Charles of Fort Pierce, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Valerie Cornell, 84, was a New Milford native
Valerie (Tyburszec) Cornell, 84, of 905 Mix Ave., Hamden, formerly of Brookfield, died Jan. 11 at Harborside Health Care in Hamden.
Mrs. Cornell was born July 1, 1917, in New Milford, a daughter of the late Alexander and Helena (Kustosz) Tyburszec.
She spent her early life in Brookfield and was a graduate of Danbury High School.
She was employed for many years as a medical transcriber by the state of Connecticut and had worked at several locations, including the former Fairfield State Hospital in Newtown.
Mrs. Cornell was a member of the Connecticut State Employees Association, Local No. 400. She lived in Windsor Locks before moving to Hamden in 1983.
She is survived by a brother, Vincent Tyburszec of Brookfield; two sisters, Eleanor Tyburszec of Brookfield and Stefania Cerritelli of Derby; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Elizabeth Lynch, Leona Dowling, Alice Quattrocchi and Ann Setaro.

Gail Riley, 50, mother of New Milford resident
Gail J. Riley, 50, of Clearview Drive, Brookfield, died Jan. 12 at Waterbury Hospital.
Mrs. Riley was born Nov. 17, 1951, in Evergreen Park, Ill., daughter of H.J. Hansen of Elburn, Ill. and Edwina (Kappes) Boffa of Cranston, R.I.
She had lived in Chicago, moved to Connecticut in 1968 and to Brookfield in 1978. She attended the University of Connecticut.
She had been employed as an administrative assistant at Danbury Hospital in its Psychiatric Department for 13 years.
Mrs. Riley was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Brookfield.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a son, Michael Jr. of New Milford; a daughter, Rachel of Middletown; a brother, Mark Hansen of Norwalk; two sisters, Marilyn Roginski of Brookfield and Jacquelyn Lyons of Pembroke, Mass.; her former husband, Michael Sr., of Newtown; her dear friend, Cheryl Dufort of Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary McNamara, 98, had lived at Templeton Farms
Mary (Dougan) McNamara, 98, of Templeton Farms, Kent, died Jan. 13 at Litchfield Woods Nursing Home in Torrington. She was the widow of Arthur McNamara.
She was born Oct. 20, 1903, in Motherwell, Scotland, daughter of the late John and Mary Jane (Corrigan) Dougan. She was a caretaker for several private estates in New York City for many years.
In 1958, she moves to Kent and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Kent.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur McNamara of Kent and John McNamara of New York City; three daughters, Mary Schuhman of North Bergen, N.J., Margaret Montona of Phoenix and Ann Bowman of Lansdale, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. Burial will also be held in the spring at Kent Cemetery.
