Mary M. Oris, 70, was mother of Kent woman
Mary M. (Mengacci) Oris, 70, of 786 Mountain Road, Cheshire, died Feb. 4 at her home. She was the wife of Robert J. Oris Sr.
Mrs. Oris was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Naugatuck, daughter of the late Guiseppe and Domenica (Vicarelli) Mengacci.
She lived most of her life in Naugatuck before moving to Cheshire two years ago. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and was a communicant of St. Thomas Beckett Church.
She had worked for the Naugatuck Housing Authority and for Peter Paul.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert Jr. of Cheshire; two daughters, Patricialee of New York City and Kent and Roberta Palmer of Cheshire; a brother, Dino Mengacci of Naugatuck; two sisters, Vera Magus of Cheshire and Erma Casini of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy B. Brundage, 87, mother of local woman
Dorothy B. Brundage, 87, of Augusta Homes, Bethel, died Feb. 2 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Alfred Brundage.
Mrs. Brundage was born April 5, 1914, in Norwalk, a daughter of the late David and Emma Loper.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Bethel.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia and her husband Richard Samuelson of Danbury and P.J. and her husband William Smalley of Washington; four grandchildren, Dawn Blaszka of Brookfield, Guy Samuelson of Danbury, Karen Smalley of Cornwall and Cheryl Kinney of Kent; and seven great-grandchildren.

Louis Molnar Jr., 68, brother of New Milford man
Louis Molnar Jr., 68, of South Plymouth, N.Y., formerly of Bridgeport and Newtown, died Feb. 4.
He was born and raised in Bridgeport and resided in Newtown and Southbury before moving to New York.
Prior to his retiring from Car-Tech, Louis worked for General Electric, Schick Corporation, and Bullard Company.
A faithful fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, he was certainly pleased with the outcome of the 2002 Super Bowl.
In addition to his hunters and CB radio operating, he enjoyed time with his family and friends while boating on Lake Zoar and Candlewood Lake.
He will be fondly remembered by his children, Louis Molnar III and his wife Ilka of Stratford, Daniel Molnar and his wife Joyce of New Milford, David Molnar, of Washington, N.J., Richard Molnar, Thompson, Laura Lee Real of Escondido, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Virginia, Nara, Louis IV, Kellee, David Jr., Veronica, Danielle, Christina, Jessica, Angela, Joshua and Sarah; his mother, Helen Cismar Molnar of Hotsprings, N.C.; and his aunt, Vilma Sittnick of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his father, Louis Molnar Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, with Pastor Moises Ferreira officiating.
Burial will follow in Lawncroft cemetery. Calling hours are on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thomas Luddy, 55, father, brother of residents
Thomas P. Luddy, 55, of 44 Osborn Road, Naugatuck, died unexpectedly Feb. 17 in Salt Lake City, Utah, while working at the Olympics.
Mr. Luddy was born March 8, 1946, in Waterbury, son of John J. and Maxine (Hoffman) Luddy of Waterbury.
He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School, Sacred Heart High School, and Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsberg, Md.
In 1968, he was named to Who’s Who among students in American colleges.
He was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Luddy was formerly employed by the U.S. Treasury Department as a U.S. Secret Service Agent and until the time of his death owned and operated his own private security business.
He was a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, the Association of Former Agents of the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, and the U.S. Secret Service/U.S. Marine Corps Foundation.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a son, Ryan of United States Marine Corps of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; three daughters, Seana and Alyssa of New Milford and Colleen of San Diego; two brothers, Kevin of Cheshire and Terrence of New Milford; two sisters, Carolyn Minervino of Mashpee, Mass., and Brenda Marchi of Wilton; a longtime companion, Catherine Libonate of Danbury; and his former wife, Patricia of New Milford.

Mildred M. Kovacs, 86, sister of New Milfordite
Mildred M. Kovacs, 86, of 291 Riggs St., Oxford, died Feb. 21 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. She was the widow of Peter Kovacs.
Mrs. Kovacs was born April 10, 1915, in Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late George and Pearl (Lutes) Turner.
She had lived in Oxford for the past 15 years, coming from Shelton.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan of Oxford, with whom she made her home, and Judith Emmons and her husband Wayne of North Ft. Myers, Fla.; a son, Richard and his wife Janet of Hamden; a sister, Madge Cook and her husband Carlisle of New Milford; seven grandchildren, Rick Kovacs, Cindy Clevland, Kathy Knipple, Chip Davin, Shannon Tanner, and Justin and Michelle Bierbower; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Irene Mattice.

Ronald Font, 65, was father of New Milfordites
Ronald F. Font, 65, of Barnum Road, New Fairfield, died Feb. 20 at his home. He was the husband of Julia (Macedo) Font.
Mr. Font was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Danbury, son of the late Joseph and Rose (Colla) Font.
He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1954, and was a retired field technician for Connecticut Light & Power Co. He retired in 1999 after more than 30 years of employment there.
He was a lifetime Danbury/New Fairfield resident and was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield.
Besides his wife, Mr. Font is survived by a daughter, Lisa Fabich and her husband Scott of New Milford; two sons, Kevin and his wife Connie of New Milford and Jeff and his wife Lisamarie of New Fairfield; a brother, J. William of Brookfield; a sister, Joyce Parrish of New Milford; six grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Julia and Morgan Font, and Ryan and Kyle Fabich; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph.

Walter Miller, 93, stepfather of Roxbury man
Walter L. Miller, 93, of East Hill Woods, Southbury, died Feb. 25 at East Hill Woods Health Center. He was the husband of Estelle (Marches) Miller and widower of Margaretha (Kisselbrach) Miller.
Mr. Miller was born June 2, 1908, in Trivoli, N.Y., son of the late William H. and Susie (Kisselbrach) Miller.
He received an engineering degree from St. Stephen’s College at Columbia University, N.Y. He was a retired chemical engineer and worked at the Brooklyn Naval Yard.
He was a 32nd degree mason, a member of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge No. 7, A.F. & A.M. of Woodbury, and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Woodbury.
Mr. Miller enjoyed playing the piano.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Walter Jr. of Bethany; two stepsons, Paul Marches of Roxbury and Vinny Zavorskas of Cape Cod; two daughters, Missy Payne of Sparks, Nev., and Fern of Lodi, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Raymond Brookins, 74, worked at former Hayes
Raymond L. Brookins, 74, of 81B Coalpit Hill Road, Danbury, died Feb. 24 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine (Ready) Brookins.
Mr. Brookins was born March 12, 1927, in Devral, Ga., son of the late Robert and Myrtice (Roberts) Brookins.
He graduated from high school and technical college in Millegville, Ga., and worked as an auto mechanic for the former Hayes Chevrolet Company of New Milford, where he retired in 1986 after more than 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners of Norwalk for many years.
Besides his wife, Mr. Brookins is survived by two sons, Stanley of Bennington, Vt., and Robert and his wife Sarah of Fort Ann, N.Y.; a daughter, Tammy DeSantis and her husband Charles of New Milford; two brothers, Donald and his wife Mavis of Colquite, Ga., and Glover and his wife Jessie of Marianna, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Henry A. Johnson, 92, was born in New Milford
Henry A. Johnson, 92, of 175 Keeler Road, Bridgewater, died Feb. 24 at New Milford Hospital. He was the widower of Marion (Hall) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 26, 1909, in New Milford, son of the late John and Sonja Johnson.
For many years he was a foreman at Betts and Betts Manufacturing in Woodbury.
He is survived by a son, H. Douglas of Bethlehem; two daughters, Sonja Grey of Bridgewater and Sandy Overton of Woodbury; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Simone Bergeron, 90, mother of Roxbury man
Simone L. Bergeron, 90, formerly of Idyl Avenue, Waterbury, died Feb. 24 at Middlebury Convalescent Home. She was the widow of Joseph Albert Bergeron.
Mrs. Bergeron was born April 18, 1912, in St. Elie, Quebec, Canada, daughter of the late Ernest and Laura (Gelinas) Lefbvre.
She worked at Scovill Manufacturing for many years, retiring in 1977.
She is survived by three sons, Clearene of Hobe Sound, Fla., Robert of Waterbury and Ronald of Roxbury; a brother, Claude Lefbvre of Montreal; two sisters, Florence Forest of Waterbury and Pauline Chausse of Granby, Quebec; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

William Schaaf, 72, former golf pro at Candlewood
William F. Schaaf, 72, of Redding and previously of Stratford, died Feb. 22 in Norwalk Hospital.
Mr. Schaaf was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Stratford, a son of the late Eugene and Katherine (Graham) Schaaf.
He was a retired professional golfer and a golf pro at several clubs, including Brooklawn Country Club, Westchester Country Club, Redding Country Club, Candlewood Valley Country Club in New Milford, and Winged Foot Country Club. He was a life member of the PGA.
Mr. Schaaf also played in many pro-am tournaments in Connecticut, New York and Massachussetts.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marines and was a member of the Army Reserves. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Schaaf enjoyed a love of sports and played or coached various teams in southern Connecticut throughout his lifetime, including basketball, tennis, ice hockey, football, baseball and golf.
He is survived by four daughters, Margaret of Milford, Theresa Donati and her husband Donald of Clinton, Katherine Madden and her husband David of Oxford, and Lorilyn Feller and her husband Gary of Milford; two sons, William II of Morrisville, Vt., and Timothy of Boulder, Colo.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Eugene of Stratford and Florida; a sister, Helen Sodoski of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; his companion, Barbara Kelly of Redding; and his former wife, Theresa of Stratford. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Byman, and a brother, Peter.
