Peter Blicher Jr.
Peter Blicher Jr., age 77, of Bridgewater, Conn., died March 31, 1999 at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham, Conn. after a long illness.
Mr. Blicher was born on October 29, 1921 in Sherman Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin. He graduated from Dunn County School of Agriculture in 1939 and worked on farms in North Dakota and Bridgewater prior to his employment with Southern New England Telephone Company. He later worked for American Telephone and Telegraph Corporation in New York and New Jersey. He retired as district manager, comptrollers for AT&T Corp. in 1987 after 46 years service.
Mr. Blicher served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. DuPage in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1947, attaining the rank of EM2c. Participating in six major invasions, he received the Purple Heart award for combat-wounded veterans after a kamikaze pilot crashed into the ship during action in the Phillipine Islands.
Mr. Blicher was long active in veterans' organizations, most recently as state commander, Department of Connecticut, Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), adjutant, MOPH Chapter 670, New Milford, Conn. and life member and quartermaster, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1672, New Milford. He was also appointed national aide-de-camp, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford.
Residing in Hamden, Conn., then Morristown, N.J., Mr. Blicher retired to Bridgewater, where he arrived from Wisconsin in 1940. He served on the board of directors of Hartford Telephone Federal Credit Union for 18 years, serving as president for five years. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, BPO Elks and Telephone Pioneers of America.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Arline (Tschauder) Blicher. He leaves two sons and their families, Ronald and Mary-Ann Blicher (Melissa and Kelly) of Windham, Conn., and Alfred and Helen Blicher (Alfred Jr., Heather and Meghan) of Virginia Beach, Va. Mr. Blicher is also survived by three sisters, Alpha Lierman of Wisconsin, Doris LePak of Illinois and Victoria Boyesen of Florida; a brother, Elmer Blicher of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Monday, 11:30 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in South Cemetery, Bridgewater.
Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.
Dorothy Christianson
The death of Dorothy A. Christianson, 95, formerly of Ledgewood Apartments, Brookfield, occurred at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center on Wednesday, March 31, 1999.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on January 28, 1904, she was the daughter of Christian and Ida Lundberg Christianson. She attended Brooklyn schools and was a graduate of Adelphi College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
She was an elementary school teacher in Brooklyn schools, retiring 30 years ago. She moved to Brookfield in 1945 and had lived on Ironworks Hill Road before moving to the Ledgewood Apartments.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Brookfield Philatelic Society.
Surviving are two nephews, William E. Carley of East Northport, N.Y. and William Christianson of Dunnellon, Fla., and a niece, Ruth Johnson of Littleton, Colo.
Funeral services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George N. Crocker, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y. on Monday at 1 p.m.
Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Lee G. Kraus
Lee G. Kraus Sr., 68, of 42 Taylor Terrace, New Milford, husband of Elizabeth Gorman Kraus, died Friday at his home.
Mr. Kraus was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Jan. 3, 1931, a son of the late Jacob A. and Ann Diamond Kraus. He had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson in Rutherford, N.J.
Mr. Kraus was last employed as a contract negotiator with Reflectone of Tampa, Fla., before his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Dunedin, Fla., and a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church of New Milford. He moved to this area from Palm Harbor, Fla., in 1986.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Lee G. Kraus Jr. of New Milford; two daughters, Kathleen L. Fahey of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Deborah J. Lunn of Watertown, Conn.; a sister, Gladys R. Kraus of Hackensack, N.J., and five grandchildren, Mitchell, Christine, Jaclyn, Zachary and Brittany.
Funeral services are on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, to St. Francis Xavier Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment is in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford. Friends will be received Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Ann Harney
Ann Harney died April 1, 1999, at Mediplex of Danbury at the age of 92. Miss Harney was born in Elmhurst, N.Y., Dec. 6, 1906, daughter of James and Anne Whalen Harney. She was educated in New York and worked as a bookkeeper for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra from 1954 to 1986. She came to this area in 1996 from Jackson Heights, N.Y., to be close to her niece and care-giver, Gloria Garvin of Newtown.
Besides Gloria and her family, she is survived by several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Monday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Newtown. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home at 12:30 p.m.
Douglas Hommel
Douglas Paul Hommel, age 57, of Ocean Pines, Md., died at home on Friday, April 2, 1999. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was a son of George Mason and Eleanor Cook Hommel of Greenwich.
Mr. Hommel was a purchasing manager and in production control with Peerless Nuclear Co., which is a government contractor for the U.S. Navy. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Porsche Club of America.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Christina M. Hommel; three sons, Brian Peter Hommel and wife Charlotte of Fairfield, Conn., Todd Christopher Hommel and his future wife Peggy Reynolds of Stamford, Conn., Eric Gregory Hommel of Florida; one daughter, Dana Lee Hommel of Florida; one brother, Philip Hommel of Torrence, Calif.; one sister, Eileen Stevens of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a granddaughter, Grace Marie Hommel of Fairfield; two nieces and two nephews; and his mother-in-law, Josephine Eskierski of Greenwich.
A memorial service will be held at Albertson Memorial Church, Old Greenwich, on Monday, April 5, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Mayme Borges
Mayme (Jowdy) Andrews Borges, 86, of Salem, N.H., died Thursday, April 1, at the Sutton Hill Rehabilitation Center in North Andover.
Born in Danbury, Conn., she received her education in the Connecticut school system, and, as a young lady, came to Lawrence, Mass., where she had been employed as a banquet waitress with Bishop's Restaurant and later with Thompson's Restaurant of North Andover prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Borges had been an attendant of Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem, N.H.Her interests were mostly with her family as a loving and caring mother and wife.
A resident of Salem, N.H., for many years, she leaves her husband Anthony Borges; two daughters, Sharon L. and her husband Stevan G. Berube of Salem, N.H., and Beverly J. and her husband William J. MacLeod of Andover; and one step-daughter, Jean B. and her husband Barry Hagen of Maryland; five granddaughters and one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Douglas J. Andrews.
A Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem, N.H., with interment to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem, N.H. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pollard Funeral Home Inc., 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, Mass.
Louis Bastos
Louis Bastos, 53, of 22 Byron St., Danbury, died at his residence on Friday morning.
He was born in Danbury, October 25, 1945, son of Eugenia (Silva) Bastos of Danbury and the late Serafim Bastos. He was a lifetime Danbury resident, a graduate of Danbury High School, 1964, and the University of Bridgeport, 1968. Mr. Bastos served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was an employee of Grolier's in Danbury.
He had also been a co-owner of the Red Brick General Store in Sandy Hook and was a past president of the S.H.O.P. Association in Sandy Hook. In honor of all of his activities on behalf of Sandy Hook, S.H.O.P. dedicated the Sandy Hook Bridge and lights in his name. In his youth, he had been active with the Sons of Portugal Band.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Bastos is survived by three sisters, Elaine Ashley of New Milford, Marge Bastos of Boston, Mass., and Jean Marie Sears of Broken Arrow, Okla., five nieces and nephews, Christine Martin, Robin Sorenson, Steve Ashley, Ryan Sears and Alexis Sears; and five great-nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m.

Vivian D. Kalb
Vivian D. Kalb, 80, a Stamford resident since 1987, died on Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Stamford Hospital of cardio-pulmonary arrest. She was the wife of the late George M. Kalb. Born in Stamford, November 1, 1918, she was the daughter of Frank J. and Elizabeth Quinn Eaton.
She was a homemaker and came back to live in Stamford in 1987.
Survivors include three sons, George M. Kalb of Florida, Ernest E. Kalb of Stamford and Richard W. Kalb of Ridgefield; seven grandchildren also survive.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, on Tuesday, April 6, at 9:20 a.m., then to St. Mary's RC Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland, Maine, on Wednesday, April 7.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Bette A. Lee
Bette A. Lee, 71, of 19 Wondy Way, Danbury, died at her residence on Sunday morning, following a brief illness.
She was born in Danbury, May 24, 1927, daughter of the late Frederick A. & Amanda (Shick-Sturn) Lee. She was a lifetime Danbury resident and a graduate of Danbury High School, she was also a member of St. Gregory the Great Church.
Miss Lee worked for many years for the former Albert W. Meserve Company and later became president of that company. She later was employed as a teacher's aide for the Head Start Program for the City of Danbury.
She is survived by a sister, Jeanette L. Blankenship of Potomac, MD, a niece, Linda Blankenship of Columbia, MD & a nephew, Robert Blankenship of Reno, NV.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 and on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30.

Leslaw Rodnicki
Leslaw Rodnicki, age 51, of 1618 Elsworth Ave., Danbury, died Friday, April 2, in Norwalk Hospital.
He was born in England, Jan. 3, 1948, son of Wiktoria (Popiel) Rodnicki of Newtown and the late Paul Rodnicki.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was in the 101 Airborne Division. He was last employed as a clerk at Food-Mart.
Besides his mother, he is survived by 1 son, Willard F. Corbey of Taunton, MA; two sisters, Teresa Rainieri and Lisa Pander, both of Fairfield; 1 granddaughter; 3 nieces; and a great-nephew.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at 9:30 from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in St. Rose Cemetery.

Raymond Clarkson
Raymond Clarkson, 89, husband of Rose (Betolatti) Clarkson, of 10 Starr St., Danbury, died at the Danbury Hospital on Sunday morning.
He was born in Danbury, Oct. 12, 1909, son of the late Sidney & Mary (Lennox) Clarkson. He had attended Danbury schools and was a retired employee of the Danbury Hat Co. Mr. Clarkson had served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #149.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Gail Frei of Gainsville, GA; a grandson, Michael Clarkson of Danbury; a granddaughter, Tina Clarkson of Fitchburg, MA and 4 great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by a son, Patrick Clarkson in 1997.
Graveside services for the interment of Mr. Clarkson's cremated remains will be held at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury on Friday at 12:15 p.m.
There will be no calling hours.
Adele Maas Johnston
Adele Maas Johnston died on Friday April 2nd at the Kent Nursing Home in Kent, CT, at age 74. She was born Adele Maas in Newburgh, NY on Oct. 9, 1924. A former resident of White Plains, NY and Rock Tavern, NY; she moved to New Milford, CT in 1992 and was a resident of Glen Ayre from July 1994 to December 1997.
Beloved mother of William Pollard of Wingdale, NY and Lynn Conway of Cross River, NY. Adoring grandmother of Devin, Teagan, Emily, Bram and Haven Pollard. Dear sister to Doris Petersen of Rock Tavern, NY, and Beatrice Bolbrock of Brewster, Ma. Adele was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Funeral Mass at 10 am on Thursday April 8th at St. Francis Xavier Church, Rte 109, New Milford, Ct. Burial at 11 am Friday April 9 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

Thomas J. Ghee
Thomas J. Ghee, 63, of George Washington Highway, Ridgefield, died April 2, 1999, Good Friday, at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine (Lynch) Ghee.
Mr. Ghee was born on Feb. 3, 1936, in New York, N.Y., a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Keane) Ghee.
Before his retirement, he had worked as the director in charge of production of special events for the IBM Company. He retired with 37 years of service.
Mr. Ghee was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Ghee, Jr., of Danbury and C. Alexander Ghee and his wife, Carolanne, of Fairfield; three daughters, Christine Ghee and Erin Ghee, both of Danbury, and Catherine Anne Ghee of Ridgefield; and two grandchildren, Christian and Sam Reno Ghee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Ridgefield. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends will be received Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
