Rosalyn M. Brown

Mrs. Rosalyn M. Brown, 78, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, Conn., wife of the late Capt. Alfred G. Brown died Monday, March 22 in Wallingford.

Mrs. Brown was born in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of Ralph and Theresa Knapp Lightman. She had been a resident of Westport for 50 years prior to moving to Ashlar Village two years ago. Mrs. Brown is a former volunteer for the Westport-Weston Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Westport Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda L. Tufts of Bethel, Conn., one brother, Ralph C. Lightman Jr., of Galion, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Steven and Jeffrey Tufts.

Services will take place Friday at 11 a.m. in the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East, Westport, with the Rev. Alan Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport. There will be no calling hours. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880.

Michael McNamara

Michael J. McNamara died March 23, 1999, at the Bethel Health Care Center in Bethel, Conn., at the age of 66. He was the husband of Jean F. Kelly McNamara and lived at 89 North Lake Shore Dr., Brookfield.

He was born in New York City, Sept. 20, 1932, son of the late Michael and Agnes Walsh McNamara and attended New York University. Mr. McNamara was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and served on the U.S.S. Tarawa.

He was employed for Texaco/Getty Oil Co. for 32 years and retired as an Employee Relations person in 1992. He was a member of St. Marguerite Church in Brookfield and the Catholic War Veterans and the VFW Post #149. He also was a Ranger for the Richter Park for five years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Patrick M. of Symrna, Del., his daughters, Margaret A. Lagomarsino of Toms River, N.J. and Jean E. Kanzler of Jackson, N.J., and three grandchildren; two brothers, James of Bayside, L.I., N.Y. and John of Red Bank, N.J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Marguerite Church. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 57 North St., Danbury, CT 06810 in his memory.

Joan C. Wrobel

Joan C. Wrobel died March 24, 1999 at New York Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Thomas R. Wrobel and lived at 11 Hayestown Heights, Danbury, Conn.

She was born in Danbury, Aug. 15, 1943, and attended Danbury schools. Mrs. Wrobel maintained her home and devoted her life to her family.

Besides her husband she is survived by her daughters; Katherine Cornell of Exeter, R.I. and Karen Feiss of Guilford, Conn.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. There are no formal funeral services. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

William R. Bennett

William R. Bennett, 78, of Belleair, Fla., formerly of Georgetown, passed away March 23, 1999.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; a son, William and his wife Mary; three grandchildren, Bill, Michelle, and Todd; and a brother, Robert L. and his wife Pauline. He was predeceased by two children, Carolyn and Bradley.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

John P. Grana

John P. Grana, age 77, of Bethel, died on Wednesday morning at his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Doris C. (Palmer) Grana.

Mr. Grana was born in Danbury, Oct. 9, 1921, a son of Paul and Virginia (Zarcone) Grana. He attended local schools and graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1939. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WW II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign.

A resident of Bethel since 1946, he was an employee of the Bethel Post Office for 12 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Grana was an active member of the Bethel Senior Center, an avid bowler, and a Red Cross Blood donor, having donated over 16 gallons of blood during his lifetime.

Mr. Grana was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, Bethel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Carol Setaro and Ellen Grana, both of Danbury, Jean Finn of Brookfield, one sister: Josephine Kellar of White Plains, N.Y., one brother: Joseph Grana of Bethel, five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 27, at the Church of St. Mary, Bethel at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department, Box 47, Bethel, CT 06801.

Dorothy M. Hilton

Dorothy M. Hilton, 60, of 42 Laurel Acres, Torrington, died Tuesday, March 23 at her home.

Mrs. Hilton was born in Danbury, Conn., Oct. 20, 1938, daughter of the late Anthony and Beatrice McNamey Corna and had lived in Torrington for the past two years. She was a longtime resident of New Milford.

She is survived by two sons, George Hilton Jr. of Colorado and Aaron Hilton of Danbury; two sisters and one brother.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Old Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Driscoll Mortuary, 138 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, is in charge of arrangements.

Doris M. Creter

Doris M. Creter of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Danbury, died March 18, 1999.

She was born on May 22, 1958 in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Sarasota 19 years ago from Danbury. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, John M.; two daughters, Dawn M. and Tiffany, both of Sarasota; a son, Brian M. of Fort Campbell, Ky.; two sisters, Chris Baker of Camarillo, Calif. and Carol Fritz of Austin, Texas; four brothers, George and Richard Wimmer, both of Bradenton, Fla., Peter Wimmer of Guilford, Conn. and Anthony Wimmer of Bradenton; and her mother, Doris M. Wimmer of Bradenton.

Services took place in Florida.

Freda Schwartz Golden

Freda S. Golden, 81, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Danbury and New Haven, wife of the late Lawrence A. Golden, died unexpectedly on March 23, 1999.

She was the beloved mother and mother-in-law of David and Ann Golden of North Haven, Mimi and Michael Golden Landau of Princeton, N.J., Joseph and Caryn Golden of New Milford, and Anida and Richard Wartenbe of Fort Collins, Colo. Loving sister of Edward Schwartz of San Francisco, Calif., and Harvey Schwartz of New Haven. Also survived by nine cherished grandchildren, nieces and nephews. she was predeceased by a brother William Schwartz. She was a lifetime member of Haddassah.

Funeral services at the Temple Shalom, Route 7, in New Milford, Conn., Friday at 11 a.m. with interment services to follow in the United Jewish Center Cemetery, Miry Brook Road, Danbury. Contributions may be sent to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT. 06810. A period of mourning will be observed at 13 Palesine Road, New Milford through Monday.

The Robert E. Shure Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Elizabeth A Jacob

Elizabeth A. Jacob, 68, of the Lordship section of Stratford, Conn., wife of the late Wilbert O. Jacob Jr., died peacefully March 20, 1999, in Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility following a long illness.

Known as Betty to family and friends, Mrs. Jacob was born in Danbury, the daughter of John F. and Harriet Noonan Elliott. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Jacob of Lordship and Carolyn Allen of Rochester, N.H.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister Charlotte Villane and nephew William Villane of Danbury; one aunt Marge Brennan of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and many cousins and friends. Besides her husband, Mrs. Jacob was predeceased by her son, Wilbert O. Jacob III, one grandson, and a niece.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass will be said Saturday, March 27, 1999 at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, Stratford. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Sanctuary Fund, 230 Park Blvd., Stratford, CT 06615.

John Brautigam

John Joseph Brautigam, 83, a 50-year resident of Norwalk, died Tuesday in Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Beatrice Lichtenberger Brautigam.

Mr. Brautigam was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on Feb. 11, 1916. He attended P.S. 72 Elementary School, Evander Childs High School and was a graduate of New York University.

He was a retired New York City firemen and then continued his career as a design engineer with the Burndy Corp., relocating with his family to Connecticut.

While raising a family and becoming an avid fisherman and member of numerous fishing clubs through New York and Connecticut, Mr. Brautigam found time to become president of the Brien McMahon Father's Club, president of St. Matthew Holy Name Society, Parish Lay Council and the Adoration Society.

He was also the chairman for St. Joseph Church Centennial Anniversary Journal and events. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mr. Brautigam is survived by eight children; Bonnie Sysko of Maryland, Jack Brautigam of Washington, Merry Davidson of Texas, Laurie McCahill of Florida, Paul Brautigam of Connecticut, Ginnie Haggerty of Pennsylvania, Joseph Brautigam of Connecticut and Donna Rosehill of Connecticut; a brother, Arthur Brautigam; and 18 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Church in South Norwalk.

The wake will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.

The family requests that contributions be made to St. Joseph's Church, South Norwalk.

Helen Weiss

Helen (Stout) Weiss, 86, of 51 Main St., Danbury, wife of the late Arthur Weiss, died March 24, 1999, at Danbury Hospital.

She was born in Clover Hill, N.J., June 2, 1912, a daughter of Fred F. and Sarah G. (Schenck) Stout.

Mrs. Weiss belonged to the Stout Family Association, descendants of Richard Stout of Nottingham, England and Penelope Stout of Holland who were early settlers of New England.

Her survivors include three sons, Frederick Weiss of New Fairfield, Robert Weiss of Brecksville, Ohio and Joseph Weiss of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Carolyn DeMeo of Ronkonkona, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Weiss was predeceased by her son George in 1991.

A Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward Church, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery, Clover Hill, N.J.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Lawrence E. Murchison

Lawrence E. Murchison, 78, of Fire Lane, Lincoln, Maine and Zephyrhills, Fla., died on Wednesday at Danbury Hospital, in Danbury, Conn.

He was the husband of Leone (Powers) Murchison.

Mr. Murchison was born in Lee, Maine, July 26, 1920, a son of the late Levi and Beatrice (Hanscom) Murchison. He attended Maine schools and was a World War II veteran having served with the United States Marine Corps.

A Monroe resident from 1953 until he returned to Maine in 1982, Mr. Murchison owned and operated Murchison's Service Station in Bethel at the corner of Greenwood Avenue and Maple Avenue.

He enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Trumbull, Conn.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son, Dick Murchison Sr., of Danbury, a daughter, Coralee Ann Albright of Monroe; two brothers, Everett Murchison of Lincoln, Maine and Kenneth Murchison of Bangor, Maine, three sisters, Vivian Crocker of Winn, Maine, Irene Barbour of Fayetteville, N.C. and Edith Wilson of Clearwater, Fla. as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will take place Monday, March 29, 1999, at 1 p.m. in the Clay Funeral Home, 3 Lee Street, Lincoln, Maine.

Interment will take place in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, Maine in the spring.

Friends will be received in the Clay Funeral Home at the time of the service.

Contributions in Mr. Murchison's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
