Marion Fyfe Cook

Marion Fyfe Cook, 90, formerly of Brookfield, died Monday, March 15, 1999 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford, Conn. She was the wife of Edwin I. Cook, also of Wallingford.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of William N. and Caroline Bailly Fyfe. A 1931 graduate of Hunter College, she worked part time at the Danbury Public Library.

An active member of the First Congregational Church in Danbury, she sang in the choir. In her later years, she was a member of the First Congregational Church in New Milford. She was also a member of the AAUW, The Danbury Concert Association and the Danbury Music Centre.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Judith Rowan of Loudon, Tenn.; a son, David F. Cook of New Milford and a sister, Evelyn B. Fyfe, also of Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in New Milford on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be sent to the First Congregational Church Music Program in New Milford or the Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut, 35 North Plains Industrial Park, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Margaret Godfrey

Margaret G. Godfrey, 80, a resident of Norwalk for the past 63 years, wife of the late Charles R. Godfrey, died Monday, March 15, 1999 at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Conn.

She was born on September 7, 1918 in West Hoboken, N.J., a daughter of Henry and Maude (Hartje) Hafemann.

Mrs. Godfrey was a retired home health aide. She was a member of Norwalk United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Charles R. Godfrey Jr. of Sandy Hook, Conn. and William Godfrey of Ridgefield, Conn.; two daughters, Betty Duncan of Norwalk, Conn. and Sandra McCormick of Burlington, Mass.; a brother, Charles Hafemann of Florida; a sister, Betty Hafemann of Florida; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton, Conn. with Rev. Kenneth Kieffer, Pastor of East Avenue Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends are invited to call Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., at Raymond Funeral Home, Five East Wall Street, Norwalk, Conn.

Donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 30 Stevens St., Norwalk, CT 06850.

Karl P. Goettel Jr.

Karl Philip Goettel,Jr., 85, husband of Elisabeth (Groesser) Goettel, of New Fairfield, died at Danbury Hospital on March 15, 1999.

He was born in Yugoslavia, April 6, 1913, a son of Karl and Helena (Feller) Goettel, Sr.

Mr. Goettel was a superintendent of stone setting. He worked for Peter Bratti Co. and was in charge of the Albany, N.Y. South Mall Project. He worked for Slattery Inc. and was in charge of the Atlanta Five Point Subway Station. He retired in May of 1981.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Aline and her husband Peter Sieber of Sherman, Gerda Goettel of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Sofia Gerstenecker of Germany; two grandchildren and their husbands Diane and Timothy Edmond and Renee and John Harel. four great-grandchildren Ashley, Shane, Michaele and Melissa; a niece and nephew in Germany.

Funeral services will be held at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountainview Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury Thursday from 5 to 8 pm.

Beatrice Hermann

Beatrice Hermann mother of Patricia Weiner, grandmother of Jason and Wendy Weiner, passed away in Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 24.

Mrs. Hermann was born in Roodepoort, South Africa in 1912. She married Gunther Hermann and lived in Cape Town where her two children, John and Patricia, were born.

In 1948, the family moved to Johannesburg where they live today except for Patricia, who came to the United States in 1962 and now lives in Danbury with her husband, Jay Weiner.

Contributions may be made in Beatrice Hermann's memory to the DATAHR Rehabilitation institute.

David C. Griffin

David C. Griffin, 94, husband of Alice (Baxter) Griffin of Danbury, died at Mediplex of Danbury on Sunday, March 14, 1999.

He was born in Norfolk, Va., August 4, 1904. He had lived in the New York City area most of his life, prior to moving to Danbury in 1996. He was a retired employee of the Macy's department store in New York City and prior to his retirement had for many years been involved with the set up of the Macy Day Parade. He had been a member of Victory Baptist Church, the Bronx, N.Y.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Venie Weather of Danbury and and sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore and Casandra Baxter of Pasadena, Calif.; and Richard and Rosa Baxter of Gaithersburg, Md.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m.

James Barrett

James Horner Barrett, 76, husband of Rose Heusler Barrett, died Friday at his home in Manning, S.C.

Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Raleigh, N.C., he was a son of Homer and Marion Sturrock Barrett. He was a retired professional engineer and a member of Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter.

Surviving are his wife of Manning; a daughter, Carol Patterson of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Christopher Barrett of Danbury, Conn.; two grandchildren, Kyle Fenner of Danbury, and Joseph DeCicco of Hopatcong, N.J.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter. Rev. John M. Barr III will officiate, assisted by Rev. Jim Eichner. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of the church.

Memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Comforter, P.O. Box 338, Sumter, SC 29151.

Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

Rosa Schnatterer

Rosa (Jahn) Schnatterer, 94, of 12 Kimberly Trail, Danbury, died at Glen Hill Convalescent Center on Monday.

Mrs. Schnatterer was the wife of the late Paul Schnatterer.

She was born in Bad Frankenhausen, Thueringen, Germany, March 7, 1905, a daughter of Albert and Lisa (Setzephand) Jahn. She received her education in Germany.

She lived in Kissimee, Fla., before moving to Danbury in 1984.

She is survived by a son; Albert Sturm of Danbury, with whom she made her home, and a brother; Wilhelm Jahn of Bad Frankenhausen, Germany, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Cremation Services of Western Connecticut, 55 Main St., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Rundall

Beatrice W. Rundall, age 80, a longtime resident of Pawling, N.Y., died March 15, 1999 at her home at 5 Memorial Avenue.

Mrs. Rundall was the wife of Allen R. Rundall. They were married in Pawling on Nov. 16, 1968.

She was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Jan. 27, 1919, a daughter of Ray F. and Ruth Baker Dalzell. She was a 1936 graduate of Pawling High School.

In 1950 she was appointed as the first part-time Village Cleark of the Village of Pawling. She became the full-time clerk late in 1950. She retired in 1982.

Mrs. Rundall was a 62-year member of the Harlem Valley Chapter #703 Order of Eastern Star. She was past district deputy Grand Matron of Columbia-Dutchess-Putnam District of O.E.S. State of New York. She was also an honorary member of the Pawling Fire Department.

Up to her death, she was the longest living member of the Pawling United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir for many years.

She was part of the staff of the Pawling-Patterson News Chronicle which was owned and operated by her late father prior to being sold in 1950.

During World War II, due to the shortage of men, she accompanied patients being transported to hospitals.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Rundall is survived by a brother, Chester Dalzell of Pawling; a sister, Joan King of Austin, Texas; a stepson., Jeffrey Rundall of Port Orange, Fla.; three stepdaughters, Joyce Robinson of Pawling, JoAnn Miller of Wingdale, and Jeanne Job of Wappingers Falls; three nieces, Linda Dorrer of Poughkeepsie and Cindy and Laurie King of Austin, Texas; four nephews, Clark Dalzell of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Craig Dalzell of Pawling, Tom King of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Don King of Austin, Texas; nine step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 10 a.m. at the Pawling United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pawling Cemetery, Pawling, N.Y.

Calling hours are Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horn & Thomes Funeral Home, 83 E. Main St., Pawling. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m. by the Pawling Fire Department and Friday at 8 p.m. by Order of Eastern Star.

Mary Fabiano

Mary Concetta Rotella Fabiano, wife of the late Thomas Fabiano, of 91 Town Hill Ave., Danbury, died on Monday, March 15, 1999 at the age of 93.

She was born June 7, 1905, in Wappingers Falls, New York, daughter of Joseph and Serafina (Chiarella) Rotella. Mrs. Fabiano is survived by four children; Rosarya Spain Egeler of Southbury, Joseph Fabian of Danbury, Marie A. Kornhaas of Danbury and Thomas Fabiano, Jr. of Brookfield; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her beloved sister, Sarah Rotella of Danbury and two brothers, Joseph J. Rotella of Danbury and Thomas Rotella of Milan, Italy. She was predeceased by a son, Ralph Fabiano and a brother, Dominic Rotella. She moved to Danbury as a child and was a member of St. Peter Church. Mrs. Fabiano was a beloved mother and devoted grandmother; she will be dearly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in Mrs. Fabiano's name may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT 06810.

Ann Schladitz

Ann Nancy Schladitz, 90, formerly of Wooster Heights, Danbury, died at the Filosa Convalescent Home in Danbury on Monday.

She was born in Ireland, August 15, 1908, daughter of John and Bridget Kildunn. She came to the United States as a child and had been a Danbury resident here most of her life. She was a retired employee of Danbury Hospital and following her retirement she lived in Florida for approximately six years. She returned to Danbury 10 years ago.

Mrs. Schladitz is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Mastriani of Danbury; a grandson, David Mastriani of Norwalk, three granddaughters, Deborah Creamer of Danbury, Marcene Johnson of New Milford and Danine Schladitz of Chicago, Ill.; four great-grandsons, Bradley Creamer of Danbury, Jake and Zachary Johnson of New Milford and Ryan Schladitz of Chicago; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Creamer of Danbury; a sister, Bridget McClintock of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jack Schladitz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will take place at the mausoleum at St. Peter Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to a Charity of One's Choice.

Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Penelope Reinders

Penelope "Penny" Reinders, long-time resident of Georgetown, a radar mechanic for the Royal Air Force during World War II, beloved mother of four and generous friend to many, slipped peacefully away Wednesday, March 3, 1999 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Reinders was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in England on Nov. 28, 1922 to Dr. and Mrs. Evan Clifford Williams. She graduated from Vassar College in 1943. From 1967 to 1993 she held various positions at Danbury Hospital. She is best remembered for her children's tours, staff development programs, and her gingerbread houses, which she routinely donated to hospital causes, thereby earning the nickname "Gingerbread Lady."

She had an unparalleled capacity for caring, unconditional generosity, fierce determination and uncompromising loyalty to family and friends alike. Her kindness, neighborliness, love for children and creativity endeared her to everyone who met her.

A memorial celebration will be held March 20 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield, 103 Main St.

It is Mrs. Reinder's wish that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her name to the Pediatric Unit of Danbury Hospital.

Lois E. Gardner

The death of Lois E. Gardner, 56, of 34 Bonnie Brae, Newtown, occurred at the Danbury Hospital Thursday after a brief illness. She was the wife of Raymond R. Gardner.

Born in Danbury, March 1, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Ethel B. Somers Wildman. She attended Danbury schools and was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1962.

She had lived in Trumbull, Conn., for 10 years prior to moving to Newtown in 1978. As a homemaker, she devoted her life to her home and family as a wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the Advent Christian Church of Stratford and of the New Life Christian Church of Waterbury, and, in both churches, was active in church functions and affairs.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, John A. Gardner of Newtown; three daughters, Sandra A. Lewis of New Milford, Susan L. Kitchen of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and Jo-Ann M. Smith of Southington, Conn.; a brother, Richard Wildman of New Milford; nine grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Raymond, Crystal, Olivia, Deanna, Emily, Alexander and Nikki, also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Interment will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, Tuesday at 11: a.m., Section 23.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to her family, 34 Bonnie Brae, Newtown, CT 06470.
