Jeffrey J. Hines

Jeffrey J. Hines, 48, of 30 Shady Acres in Danbury, Conn. died at his home on August 3, 1999 following a brief illness.

He was born in Weymouth, Mass. on March 21, 1951, son of John F. and Evelyn Richards Hines, and was a graduate of Weymouth High School. Mr. Hines had been employed in construction as a building contractor.

Surviving are his father and a sister, Carey Douglas, both of Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11 a.m., at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home at the time of the services.

John Pudelka Jr.

John Pudelka Jr., age 83, of Danbury, Conn. died on Monday evening, August 9, 1999 at the Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Anna Marie (Scalzo) Pudelka.

Mr. Pudelka was born in Danbury on April 7, 1916, a son of the late John Sr. and Anna (Ceresna) Pudelka. A lifelong resident of Danbury, he attended the Danbury Technical School (now Henry Abbott Technical School), studying carpentry. Mr. Pudelka was a self-employed carpenter for over 60 years, working in Danbury and surrounding towns. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Danbury.

Mr. Pudelka is survived by one son, John P. Pudelka of Danbury; two daughters, Joan M. Capozza of Brookfield, Conn. and Elaine J. Townsend of Morton, Ill.; three brothers, Paul Pudelka of Danbury, Robert Pudelka of New Fairfield, Conn. and Stephen Pudelka of New Milford, Conn.; three sisters, Ann Hicks, Georgianna O'Meara and Susan Shoaf, all of Danbury; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hull Funeral Home, Sixty Division St., Danbury.

Edmund R.Wittkamp

Edmund R. Wittkamp, age 68, of Danbury, died peacefully at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of Marianne Wittkamp.

Mr. Wittkamp was born in Pommer, Germany, June 19, 1931, and graduated from schools in Germany. Prior to his illness, Mr. Wittkamp owned and operated Wittkamp and Sons Iron Works. He leaves behind a legend of restoration works he performed over the entire United States, from restoring fountains and buildings to lighthouses and fences. He was truly one of the most talented ironworkers of his time. He was recognized by Central Park, the New York Botanical Gardens, Friends of Cast Iron and many historical societies throughout the country. He leaves behind his craftsmanship and talent for his sons to follow. Mr. Wittkamp was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danbury, where he bestowed many of his talents throughout the church from the Baptismal Dove to railings, as well as restoration projects. He was a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout leader and served on several boards.

He was also a member of the lay ministry and participated with many programs for the elderly or homebound, such as visiting shut-ins.

Besides his wife of 46 years, Mr. Wittkamp is survived by four sons, Gerhard Wittkamp of Springfield, N.J., Uwe Wittkamp of Denver, N.C., Peter Wittkamp of Brewster, N.Y., and Richard Wittkamp of Stamford, Conn.; one daughter, Monika Carley of Bethel; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danbury, on Saturday, August 14, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, Sixty Division St., Danbury, on Friday evening from 7 through 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Nelson Gelfman Dialysis Unit, c/o Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT 06810.

Josephine Paniccia

Mrs. Josephine "Joann" (D'Arcangelo) Paniccia, 38, of 189 County Club Road, Cheshire, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of Glen Paniccia.

Mrs. Paniccia was born July 1, 1961, daughter of Luigi and Teresa (Capotorto) D'Arcangelo, and lived in Cheshire for the past five years. She attended schools in Italy and later returned to the United States when she was 19 years old. She received an associate's degree in accounting from the Connecticut Business Institute. She was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church.

Besides her husband of Cheshire and parents of Brookfield, she leaves a son, Paul Anthony Paniccia of Cheshire; three brothers, Rocco D'Arcangelo, Luigi D'Arcangelo Jr. and Saverio D'Arcangelo, all of Brookfield; two sisters, Constance D'Arcangelo of Italy and Maria Teresa Pustari of North Haven; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire, to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Francis C. Finn

Francis "Frank" C. Finn, 86, of Sherman, Conn., died Wednesday at his home . He was the husband of Dorothy (Stewart) Finn.

Mr. Finn was born in New York City, June 16, 1913, a son of the late John J. and Josephine (Costello) Finn. He was a resident of Sherman for 38 years, coming from Whitestone, N.Y. A retired Train Master, he worked for the New York City Transit Authority for some 40 years. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, Sherman.

Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son, Brian T. Finn of Flushing, N.Y.; a daughter, Maureen Winkler of Sherman; and five grandchildren, Kenneth, Jonathan and Christopher Winkler, and Brian and Kristine Finn. He was predeceased by a son, Francis J. Finn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Sherman. Interment in Coburn Cemetery, Sherman.

Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Matthew J. Walsh

Matthew J. Walsh, 80, of 33 Willow Springs, New Milford, died Thursday morning at the Danbury Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Walsh ne'E9 Hyland in 1965.

Matt was born July 9, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Patrick and Bridget Maloney Walsh. He arrived in this area in 1981 after Union Carbide relocated its headquarters to Danbury. Mr. Walsh was an accountant in Carbide's International Consolidated Division for 44 years, retiring 15 years ago. He was educated in Brooklyn schools and attended City College of New York.

He was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield. He was very active in square dancing throughout Connecticut and was a member of the Tomahawk Square Dance Club of Brookfield and the State Square Dancing Association, of which he was treasurer.

Surviving are three children, Matthew J. Walsh of Brookfield, Mary Walsh of Plainview, N.Y., and Anna Marie Pizzatola of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Christopher Leisz, Paul and Maryanne Pizzatola and Robert and Bridget Walsh; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Pizzatola; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, Thursday evening from 7 to 9:00. Calling hours also will be observed at the Clavin Funeral Home, 7722 4th Ave., Brooklyn, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Angels Church, Brooklyn, on Saturday, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.

Jerry J. Nazzaro

Jerry J. Nazzaro, age 77, a 42-year resident of Wilton, died on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Domenica Socci Nazzaro.

Mr. Nazzaro was born in Corvara, Abruzzi, Italy, on April 9, 1922, a son of the late Carmine and Vincenzia DiBenigno Nazzaro. He came to this country in 1928 and settled in the Branchville section of Ridgefield.

He was a longtime area homebuilder and a 50-year member of Local 210 Carpenter's Union in Norwalk. He served as a construction foreman in the 34th Engineer Battalion in Korea.

Mr. Nazzaro was a member of the Wilton Athletic Club and the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton for 40 years and served as an usher for 25 years.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, Mr. Nazzaro is survived by his three daughters, Linda Nazzaro Johnson and her husband Mark of Shelton, Donna Nazzaro of Danbury and Janet Nazzaro of Wilton; a sister, Domenica Nazzaro of Norwalk; four brothers, William Nazzaro of Norwalk, Louis Nazzaro of Georgetown, Augustus Nazzaro of Mathews, N.C. (formerly of Ridgefield) and Anthony Nazzaro of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton. The Rev. Michael C. Palmer, pastor, will officiate. The interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton.

Friends may call at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church St., Georgetown, on Friday, Aug. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Mary H. Sharpe

Mary Maureen H. Sharpe, age 56, died Aug. 8, 1999, at Greenwich Hospital.

Mrs. Sharpe was born in Kinvara, County Galway, Ireland, Feb. 22, 1943, a daughter of Peter and Helena O'Connor Huban. A self-employed horse trainer and accomplished horseperson, she was a member of the Mid-Hudson Driving Society and The American Driving Society, as well as the originator and continuing loyal volunteer of the Greenwich Pegasus Riding and Carriage Driving Program, a therapeutic program for the handicapped.

She also was a frequent competitor in horse driving events in cross country, obstacle and show driving classes, including many Reserve Championships and Championships.

She lived in Greenwich for 33 years before moving to Valatie, N.Y., five years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Sharpe of Valatie and Greenwich; her daughters, Mary E. Backman of Danbury and Eileen M. Sharpe of Banksville, N.Y.; her son, Robert M. Sharpe of Valatie, N.Y.; her grandson, Brandon Backman, and son-in-law, Bart Backman of Danbury; and her siblings all of whom live in Galway sisters, Christina Taylor and Catherine Killkelly and brothers, John, P.K., Martin and Kevin Huban. She was predeceased by her brother Michael Huban.

A graveside service was held this week and a memorial service will be announced a later date.

George E. Swanson

George E. Swanson, age 78, of 10 School Path, Weston, husband of Barbara (Knapp) Swanson, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Swanson was born in Danbury, June 1, 1921, a son of the late John and Anna (Selvic) Swanson. He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1939, and a Danbury resident until 1951, when he moved to Weston. A Boy Scout as a young man, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Card in the Atlantic.

Owner of the former Weston Builders Co., he built custom homes throughout the greater Weston area. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Georgetown, the Danbury Madhatters Barbershop Chorus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Georgetown and the USS Card Association.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert E. Swanson of Weston; his brother, William M. Swanson of Newtown; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Louise Swanson; his brother, John A. Swanson; and his sister, Olga Heering.

Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

James E. Warburton

James E. Warburton, 79, a Danbury, Conn. native, died on Thursday, August 5, 1999 in Denton, Texas of a heart attack.

His gentle, patient, loving nature influenced not only the many students whose lives he touched, but his loving family who cherishes his memory.

Mr. Warburton was born on June 17, 1920 to Hugh A. and Margaret D. Smith and was adopted by John and Anastasia Warburton. He graduated from Danbury High School and from Danbury State Teachers College in 1941. He received his master's degree from New York University.

His began his teaching career, which lasted over 40 years, in Southbury and Ashford schools. After his military service, he was teacher/principal in Bethlehem and served as principal in Bethany and Sherman. From 1970 to 1978, Mr. Warburton was principal of Center School and Huckleberry Hill School, director of elementary education and acting superintendent of Brookfield schools, until his retirement from Connecticut in 1978. He also taught in California, Florida and Texas, where he made his most recent home.

Mr. Warburton was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. He served in Algeria, Tunisia and Italy in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Warburton most recently made his home in Corinth, Texas with his daughter Colleen. He had previously resided in Inverness, Fla. with his beloved wife of 51 years, Evelyn Jones Warburton, now deceased. He had visited his beloved friends and family in Connecticut in June for his college reunion and was planning another visit in October.

He is survived by his loving family: his daughters, Pamela W. Munson of Orlando, Fla., Christine E. Warburton of Minneapolis, Minn. and Colleen W. Dunlop of Corinth, Texas; his deceased son James' children, Brittany and James Warburton of Dallas, Texas; and his sister, Mary S. Lechwar of Fairfield, Calif.

A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Denton, Texas with Father Eugene Sweeney officiating.
