Rose M. Martere
Rose Margaret Martere, age 79, formerly of Greenwich, Conn., and Portchester, N.Y., died on Tuesday at the Laurelwood Nursing Center, Ridgefield. She was the wife of the late Frank A. "Chick" Martere, Sr.

Mrs. Martere was born in Greenwich, June 20, 1919, a daughter of Rocco A. Sr. and Maria (D'Andrea) Bria. She attended schools in Greenwich, and had been a resident of Portchester for over 35 years, moving to Danbury, Conn. in 1985. She was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, Bethel.

Mrs. Martere is survived by three sons: Joseph R. Martere Sr., of Calabash, N.C., Ronald F. Martere Sr., of Columbus, Ga., and Frank A. Martere Jr., of Danbury; one daughter, Judith A. LaBella, of Bethel; two brothers: Joseph J. Bria Sr., and Rocco A. Bria Jr., both of Greenwich; four sisters, Angie Parelli and Marie Palmer, both of Greenwich, Helen Giammarino, of Bethel, and Barbara Parelli, of Milford; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martere was predeceased by her sister, Teresa DeCarlo.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10:20 a.m. from the Hull Funeral Home, Sixty Division Street, Danbury, to the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Anne Marie Taylor
Anne Marie Taylor, age 92, of 19 Poplar St., New Milford, died Tuesday at New Milford Nursing Home.

She was born in New Hope, Pa., May 27, 1906, a daughter of H. Ross and Caroline Reid Taylor. She lived most of her life in Brooklyn, N.Y. until moving to Fla. in 1980 and New Milford in 1992. She had worked for over 20 years as a legal secretary on Wall Street in New York.

She is survived by a daughter, Rosemarie Gregory of Danbury; and three grandsons, David Rabens of Waterbury, Karl Rabens and his wife Debi of Southbury and Robert Rabens of Danbury.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Hull Funeral Service, 60 Division St., Danbury is handling arrangements.

Thypolito Rodrigues
Thypolito Rodrigues, 80, of 22 Cherry St., Danbury, husband of Aida (Jesus) Rodrigues, died at Heritage Heights Health care Center, on Dec. 2, 1998.

He was born in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, July 5, 1918, a son of the late Simao and Maria (da Conceicao) Rodrigues.

Mr. Rodrigues was employed as a laborer in the construction industry for Conn. Labor Union Local 675 until his retirement.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Maria Jesus Rodrigues and Maria C. dos Santos, both of Danbury; a son, Antonio Dias Rodrigues of Danbury; three grandchildren, Luis and Victor Rodrigues and Connie Amaral; a great-grandson, Luis Rodrigues Jr.; a sister, Helena Rodrigues of Portugal; two brothers, Antonio Rodrigues of France and Jorge Rodrigues of Portugal; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Saturday at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends will be received at The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Louis J. Verzaro
Louis J. Verzaro, 71, of 86 Mayweed Road, Fairfield, beloved husband of Celeste (Sally) Minalgo Verzaro, died Monday Dec. 7, 1998 at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Verzaro was born in Fairfield, Jan. 25, 1927, the son of the late James and Jenny Csogi Verzaro. He was a machinist for 48 years at Harvey Hubbel, retiring in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. He was a member of The Church of the Resurrection, Ansonia; Mason's-Fidelity-St. John's Lodge No. 3 A.F.&A.M.; American Legion-George Alfred Smith Post; V.F.W. Post -1672; a retired musician he was a former member of the Bridgeport Musician's Assoc. Local 63-549; and a counselor for the Fairfield Townies Recreation Center for several years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons Stephen Minalgo of Ohio, and John Minalgo and his wife Judy, of Newtown; one brother, James Verzaro of California; seven grandchildren; two aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral is Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Hylwa-Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Funeral service is in The Church of the Resurrection, Ansonia 10 a.m. Burial is in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Marion Anna Kuss

Marion Anna (Sack) Kuss, 81, of 200 Candlewood Lake Road North, New Milford, died Tuesday in North Indian Harbor Beach, Fla. She was the wife of the late Rudolf L. Kuss Sr.

Mrs. Kuss was born in the Bronx, N.Y., June 11, 1917. She spent her early life in New York and lived in Danbury from 1955 to 1988 until moving to New Milford. She was a Eucharistic Minister in Our Lady of the Lakes Church, New Milford.

Mrs. Kuss is survived by her son, Rudolf L. Kuss, Jr. of New Milford; two daughters, Marion K. Bell of Cornwall Bridge, and Carol Bogen of North Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.; two brothers; five sisters; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church. Private burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Donations may be made to Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 3 Old Town Park Road, New Milford, CT 06776.

Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Frederic Champlin

Dr. Frederick Bridgham Champlin, 90, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998 in the Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Champlin was born in Bangor, Maine, May 17, 1908. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City and received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Champlin served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He started his medical practice in Maine after the war as an internist and eventually specialized in heart and lung disease. During his medical career, he left private practice and worked for state medical institutions, serving as administrator of hospitals which specialized in heart and lung disease. He was also a teaching professor at the Medical College of Virginia and Albert Einstein Medical College (New York City) during these years.

Dr. Champlin is survived by his wife, Esther B. Champlin, of Statesville, N.C.; a daughter, Anne Champlin, Honolulu, Hawaii; his son, John Champlin, Statesville, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Carroll Champlin of Statesville; a grandson, John Michael Champlin, and his wife, Teresa Champlin, of Massachusetts; and grandson Thomas Bridgham Champlin, of South Carolina.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel, Statesville, N.C. Rev. Father Peter Fitzgibbons will officiate and burial will follow at a later date in Maine.

Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Dr. Champlin.

Mitchell Kruszynski

Mitchell P. Kruszynski, 84, husband of Yolanda (Albano) Kruszynski, of 56 Fairmount Drive, Danbury, died at the Danbury Hospital on Wednesday morning.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, September 11, 1914, son of Peter and Michalina (Charewicz) Kruszynski. He moved to Danbury with his family as a child and had been a Danbury resident since.

He was a graduate of Danbury schools and served in the U.S. Army in England, during World War II. Mr. Kruszynski was a retired employee of the Danbury Post Office. He retired in 1975 after having worked there more than 25 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Polish American Club and the Letter Carrier's Union.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Barbara Pugliese of Danbury and Mary Freddura of Sandwich, Mass.; four sisters, Helen Freeman and Anna Brown both of Danbury, Joan Clancy of Gastonia, N.C.; Irene Keller of Steilacom, Wash.; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Winifred D. Kohl

Winifred D. Kohl, 84, wife of the late Arthur Kohl, formerly of 51 Main St., Danbury, died at the Lutheran Home in Southbury, on Wednesday morning.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Sept. 5, 1914, daughter of Henry and Josephine (Murray) Davies. She came to Danbury as a young woman and had been a resident here most of her life. She had worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the former Cunha Motor Sales of Danbury, and more recently for the former A.P. Scalzo Company of Danbury.

Mrs. Kohl was also a dog lover and for many years raised standard poodles at the former Valkyrie kennel in Danbury, which she owned and operated.

She is survived two2 sons: Richard LaCava of Wanaque, N.J. and Timothy LaCava of Waterbury; two daughters; Doris Nelson of Norwich, Vt. and Gloria Jackson of Breaux Bridge, La.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kohl was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Economou in 1989.

Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Helen A. Williams
Helen A. Williams, 75, of Norwalk, wife of the late Earl L. Williams, died Wednesday in the Norwalk Hospital. She was born in Norwalk on May 23, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Siemienaka Obuchowski and was a Norwalk resident all her life.

Mrs. Williams was a retired hairdresser. Surviving are one son, Dennis R. Williams of Prospect, Ky.; one daughter - Margaret Oladovich of Norwalk; one brother, Walter Obuchowski of Norwalk; a sister, Irene McKinley of Cheshire; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Philip's Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Place, Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. Friends may call at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Saturday from 8 to 8:30 a.m.

Rose Mary Melle

The death of Rose Mary Melle, of 25 High St., Danbury, occurred at the Danbury Hospital Tuesday evening at the age of 84. She was the wife of the late Frank C. Melle.

Born in New Haven, Conn., May 7, 1914, daughter of Angelo and Mary Petrucci Franco, she came to Danbury as a child and attended Danbury schools.

On Sept. 5, 1998 she and Mr. Melle celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. His death occurred Oct. 4, 1998.

She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her home and family.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and formerly of its Ladies Guild.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Frances Gaeta and her husband Dominic Gaeta of Brookfield, Ann Lucille Jarrell and her husband Dr. Walter Jarrell of Spring, Texas; a sister, Sue Ponn of Danbury; two granddaughters, Holly A. Gonzalez, of North Miami, Fla. and Kimberly Gaeta of Newtown; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Friday at 9:30 a.m..

Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Project 2000 of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 12 Cottage St., Danbury, CT 06810.

The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St. is in charge of arrangements.

Jaime Roman

Gabriel Jaime Roman M., 28, of 65-163 South Street, Danbury, died on Tuesday afternoon at Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Medellin, Colombia, Nov. 24, 1970, a son of Gabriel Antonio Roman V. and Olibia deJesus Munoz M. both of Colombia.

He attended schools in Colombia.

A resident of Danbury for the past two years, he was a self-employed painter.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law; Sandra Liliana Roman Vasquez and Juan Vasquez, of Danbury, his son and daughter; Jaime Andres Roman and Cindy Andrea Roman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday; Dec. 19, 1998 at 2:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 29 Golden Hill Road, Danbury.

Burial will take place in Colombia.

Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Friday from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.

John G. Stiles

John G. Stiles, age 71, a retired real estate and business broker died Dec. 15, 1998 in the Danbury Hospital. Mr. Stiles was the husband of Jacquelyn (Ritch) Stiles and resided at 6 Castle Hill Road, Newtown.

He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. Aug. 12, 1927 son of the late Harold and Mildred (Greenwood) Stiles. He was a graduate of New Rochelle High School and Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va. During the Korean War he served in the Navy Air Corps as a flight engineer. He had been a resident of Newtown the past 26 years and was currently serving as Chairman of the Newtown Building Board of Appeals.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Russell Stiles of Newtown; a daughter, Carolyn Arneth of Sandy Hook, a sister, Mary Sanders of Coventry, Vt., and a granddaughter Molly Arneth.

Funeral services will be held Friday Dec. 18, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, with the Rev. Kathleen Adams-Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9pm. Contributions may be made to the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. 344 Newtown, CT 06470 or to Regional Hospice, 30 West St. Danbury, CT 06810.

Ada B. Coe

Ada (Burdick) Coe, 86, of 715 Liberty Avenue, Mt. Dora, Fla., formerly of Ridgefield, died on Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at her home.

Formerly of 6 Greenfield Avenue, Ridgefield, Mrs. Coe was the wife of the late Charles H. Coe Sr.

Mrs. Coe was born in New Canaan, Sept. 27, 1912, a daughter of Alden A. and Jennie (Issacs) Burdick.

She attended New Canaan schools and was a resident of Ridgefield from 1938 coming from New Canaan until 1973 when she and her late husband moved to Florida.

A retired store clerk, she was last employed by the Grand Union Store of Ridgefield, retiring in 1973.

Mrs. Coe enjoyed collecting teddy bears and had an extensive collection of them.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Pocahontas as well as St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Darien.

She is survived by a daughter; Georgene Keeler of Danbury, two sons; Charles A. Coe of Mt. Dora, Fla. and Donald Coe of Bousman, Wis. as well as four grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday; Dec. 22, 1998 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Darien.

Interment will take place in Mapleshade Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Monday; Dec. 21, 1998 from 6 to 8 p.m.

In Mrs. Coe's memory, a gift of a new teddy bear or a contribution towards the purchase of teddy bears would be appreciated. The bears donated or purchased through one's contribution will be forwarded to the Toys for Tots for less fortunate children in Mrs. Coe's memory.
