Rose DaSilva
Rose DaSilva, 88, formerly of Cross Street, Danbury, wife of the late Benjamin DaSilva Sr., died at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care on Wednesday morning.
She was born in Danbury, Aug. 5, 1910, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Papainni DeMunda. Mrs. DaSilva was a lifetime Danbury resident and had been a member of St. Peter Church and formerly a member of the Sons of Portugal Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons: Benjamin DaSilva Jr. and Joseph DaSilva, both of Danbury and Richard DaSilva of Inverness, Fla.; a daughter, AnnePhyllis Cocroran of Inverness; a brother, Francis DeMunda of Danbury; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to being predeceased by her husband in 1968, Mrs. DaSilva was predeceased by a son, Anthony in 1995 and a brother, Richard DeMunda in 1990.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Ralph W. Olmstead
Ralph W. Olmstead, widower of Adeline (Genest) Olmstead of Chelmsford, Mass., formerly of Sun City, Ariz., died Dec. 14, at age 86.
Born May 15, 1912 in New Fairfield, he was the son of Archibald and Effie Olmstead. He is survived by a son John H. Olmstead and his wife Grita of Chelmsford, with whom he made his home, a brother Clarence Olmstead of Florida; three sisters Julia Schnelder and Jane Bjelki of Danbury, and Ruth Calloway of Venice, Fla.; two grandchildren Christine Balzotti of Chelmsford and Stephanie Scolastico of Tyngsboro, Mass., and five great-grandchildren.

Harold B. Hansen
Harold B. Hansen, 84, of 88 Main St., Danbury, Conn., died at the Danbury Hospital on December 24, 1998, following an extended illness.
He was born April 11, 1914, in Manchester, New Hampshire, the son of Harold O.L. Hansen and Ellen A. Hansen. He is survived by his wife Martha Winblad Hansen.
Private arrangements have been completed in accordance with Mr. Hansen's personal wishes.
Arthur E. Crane
Arthur E. Carne, 73, of 1081 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, husband of the late Martha A. (Donahue) Crane, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998 at his home.
Mr. Crane was born Jan. 6, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Julian and Mary (Briggs) Crane and had been a Naugatuck resident since 1984, having lived in New Milford from 1978 to 1984. He lived in Danbury from 1966 to 1978 and in Stamford from 1961 to 1966. He retired in 1986 from Carpenters Local 210, where he was employed for over 35 years.
He leaves six sons, Arthur J. Crane of New Britain, Daniel J. Crane of Naugatuck, Keith J. Crane of Branford, Mark T. Crane of Bethlehem, Edward J. Crane of New Milford and Peter K. Crane of Naugatuck, and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin Crane.

Martin F. Devine Sr.
Martin F. Devine Sr., 63, husband of Helen (Romano) Devine, of 9 Mannion's Lane, Danbury, died at the Danbury Hospital on Tuesday evening.
He was born in Bridgeport, Sept. 28, 1935, son of the late Howard T. & Geraldine (Finn) Devine. He came to Danbury as a child and had been an area resident since.
He was a union bricklayer and had been a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman, Local -22 for 45 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Kevin T. Devine of Brookfield and Daniel H. Devine of Danbury; a daughter, Helen "Missie" Paxinos of Brookfield; three brothers, Howard T. Devine of Hardford, N.Y, William W. Devine of Danbury and George F. Devine of New Fairfield; two sisters, Beverly Tollikko of Danbury and Geraldine Boucher of Bethel, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Martin F. Devine Jr. in 1983.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Danbury on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Lorene Susan Weinheimer
Lorene Susan Weinheimer, 45, of Plainville, Conn., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at Hartford Hospital.
She was born in Danbury, Conn., on Jan. 18, 1953, the daughter of William and Alberta (Oatis) Weinheimer of Port Charlotte, Fla. She was a Family Consumer teacher at Hartford Public High School, where she was involved with the Connecticut Mutual Alliance and the SAT program. She was very involved with her students, especially the handicapped, and cared very much for their well-being. She was also secretary-treasurer of her condominium association.
Besides her parents, she leaves two brothers, William Weinheimer of Shelton, and Robert Weinheimer of Danbury, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Norma E. Mullins
Norma E. (Mema) Mullins, 73, of Shady Acres, Danbury, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Mullins was the widow of Robert B. Mullins. She was born in Beacon, N.Y. on Sept. 28, 1925, a daughter of Claude V. and Mabel (Stalter) Ticehurst.
Mrs. Mullins was raised in Bethel and attended Bethel schools. She retired in 1988 from the Barden Corporation where she was employed for 40 years. She helped establish the Eden Public School Library in Vermont and brought in books from all over the country. She also had a book signed by President and Mrs. George Bush. Mrs. Mullins was a lifetime member of the Miry Brook Ladies Auxiliary and served on the Fire Canteen.
She is survived by a son, C. Gary Bennett of Danbury; a daughter, Audrey Leete of Prospect; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Karen P. Fortier
Karen P. (Schock) Fortier, 30, of Indian Hill Road, Collinsville, wife of Peter Raoul Fortier, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at home. She was born February 3, 1968 in Norristown, Pa., daughter of Robert J. and Margaret "Peggy" (Doran) Schock of Mystic, and had lived in Ridgefield and New Britain prior to moving to Collinsville three years ago.
Mrs. Fortier was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, a member of St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville; a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Newcomer's Club of Canton, and the Canton Parents and Teachers Organization.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by her son, Justin Pierre Fortier, at home; two sisters, Susan M. Schock of Mystic, and Kimberly A. Schock of Danbury; a brother, Robert "Bobby" Schock at State College in Pennsylvania; and her two dogs, Shelby and Conrad. Eugene W. Daley
Eugene W. Daley, on Dec. 29, 1998 in Carmel, N.Y., age 76. Dear husband of the late Frances. Dear father of Patricia Skidmore of Danbury, Conn., Eugene Daley of Washingtonville, N.Y., Katherine Knapp of Ridgefield, Conn.., Margaret Boyle of Modena, N.Y., Frances Kiernan of Croton on Hudson, N.Y. and Gerard Daley of Mohegan Lake, N.Y. Survived by one sister Kathleen Kennedy of Elmont, N.Y. and one predeceased sister, Ruth Farrell. Grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of two. Mr. Daley served in WW II Army veteran in the 100th Division. John G. Sadlon
John G. Sadlon, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998 at the Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 26, 1911 in Danbury, Conn. the son of John and Christina (Fusek) Sadlon.
Mr. Sadlon retired to Exeter, but was formerly of Swampscott and Marblehead, Mass.
He graduated cum laude from Tilton Academy, N.H. and from the University of Virginia School of Architecture.
He was awarded the 50 year life membership of Starr King Lodge, Salem, Mass. as 32nd degree mason.
John was active in the furniture field all his life working on restoration of antiques, and was an executive of retail and manufacturer's representative.
He leaves his wife, Hortense (Kerr) Sadlon of Exeter, one son, Jay K. Sadlon of Hingham, Mass., two grandchildren, one sister, plus several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Danbury.
Burial will be in the family plot at the cemetery in Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice or the Joslin Diabetic Clinic, Boston, Mass.

Caroline L. O'Hara
Caroline Lucy O'Hara, 16, of Farmingville Road, Ridgefield, daughter of Gerald and Denise (Matson) died at her home on Tuesday morning, Dec. 29, 1998.
Caroline was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, July 7, 1982. She had been resident of the United States since 1984, moving from the family's previous home on City Island in New York. She had attended the Churchill School in Manhattan.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1994, she was a member of the Ridgefield High School, Class of 2000 and was active in numerous organizations dedicated to the underprivileged, needy and less fortunate. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield where she was also a Sunday School instructor.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister; Eleanor of Ridgefield, her maternal grandparents; Robert and Patricia Matson of Xenia, Ohio, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, Ridgefield.
Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends following the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a contribution in Caroline's memory to the HOPE or Outreach Program at the Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road or to the H.O.M.E. program at the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street, Ridgefield 06877.

Ruth C. Ingham
Ruth C. Ingham, 73, a retired secretary, died Friday at her home at 55 Sugar Lane, Newtown.
She was the wife of Clifford S. Ingham.
Mrs. Ingham was born in Danbury on June 15, 1924, a daughter of Robert and Lena Smith Pleasants.
She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport and from the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City.
Mrs. Ingham began her secretarial career at the Bridgeport radiology practice of Dr. Isaac Horowitz, where she earned an X-ray technologist license.
She later moved to Newtown, where she worked as a secretary for the Newtown Police Department and in the Newtown first selectman's office during the 1970s. She also worked as a checker at election polls and referendums.
She was a founding member and former secretary of the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown, and was a member of the Embroiderers Guild of America and the Friends of Counted Embroidery.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Clifford R. Ingham of Newtown, and a granddaughter.

Josephine Cuomo
Josephine Consilvio Cuomo, 77, a former teacher's aide and the mother of Dr. Anthony Cuomo of Newtown, died Saturday at Wilton Meadows.
A 60 year resident of Yonkers, N.Y., Mrs. Cuomo recently moved to Newtown to make her home with her son. She was the wife of the late Nicholas A. Cuomo who died Nov. 3, 1997.
She was born in Capabasso, Italy, on Dec. 16, 1920, a daughter of Giovanni and Esterina DiTomasso Consilvio.
Mrs. Cuomo had been a teacher's aide with the Yonkers Public School System.
Besides her son in Newtown, Mrs. Cuomo is survived by another son, John Cuomo of Port Jervis, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

John Scalzo
John Scalzo, 68, a Danbury native and former Bethel resident, died Friday at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, N.H.
He was the husband of Jeanette Morits Scalzo of Salem, N.H.
Mr. Scalzo was born in Danbury on Dec. 13, 1929, a son of John and Theresa Falvo Scalzo. He attended local schools.
Before his retirement, he had worked for 14 years in the production control department at Digital Equipment Corp. in Andover, Mass.
Mr. Scalzo enjoyed woodworking and golf and was a member of the Pine Valley Golf Club in Pelham, N.H.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Scalzo had been a Bethel resident before moving to Salem 24 years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey Scalzo of Danville, N.H.; a daughter, Nancy McNeill of Salem, N.H.; four brothers, Harry, Richard and Robert Scalzo, all of Danbury, and Mario of Mississippi; four sisters, Gloria Reiske of New Milford, Yolanda Milton of Maine, Mari McGrath of California, and Louise Belanger of New Brunswick, Canada; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie A. Proterra
Marjorie A. Proterra, 84, a former longtime resident of Newtown, died Saturday at the Good Shepherd Nursing Center in Jaffrey, N.H., where she had lived for the past two years.
A resident of Newtown for 30 years before moving to New Hampshire, Mrs. Proterra formerly lived at Sawmill Ridge Road. She was the wife of the late Joseph Proterra.
She was born in Somerset, Mass., on March 23, 1913, a daughter of Thomas and Anne Cronin Eagan.
Mrs. Proterra graduated from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing with a registered nurse degree.
Her survivors include two sons, Rev. Michael Proterra S.J. of Omaha, Neb., and John Proterra of Winchester, Mass.; a daughter, Mary Ann Grant of Greenfield, N.H.; and four grandchildren.
