Leland Walters
Leland Walters, 92, a retired carpenter and a resident of Bethel for the past 10 years, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Walters, of 101 Simeon Road in Bethel, was the husband of the late Emmy Matthews Walters.

He was born in Marengo, Ind., on July 27, 1905, a son of C.T. and Eva Sloan Walters.

Before moving to Bethel, Mr. Walters lived in Beloit, Wis., and Stamford, Conn.

Mr. Walters is survived by two sons, Fred L. Walters of Stamford and Henry J. Walters of Beloit, Wis.; two daughters, Elizabeth W. Lepus of Bethel and Eva A. Mailand of Rockford, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

There are no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date.

Cremation will take place in Ferncliff Crematory, Hartsdale, N.Y.

The Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel is in charge of arrangements.'

Mildred D. Meldrum
Mildred D. Meldrum, 94, known for her fine embroidery, died Saturday at the Salem Hills Health Center, Purdys, N.Y.

Mrs. Meldrum lived at 31 Brewster Ave., Carmel. She was the wife of the late George Meldrum.

Before moving to Carmel in 1962, Mrs. Meldrum had been a 32-year resident of Poughquag, N.Y.

She was born in Brewster on Oct. 9, 1903, a daughter of Stanley and Martha Thomas Day. She was educated in Brewster and attended the Oneonta State Normal School.

Mrs. Meldrum was a housewife and enjoyed reading newspapers and books.

She was a member of the Poughquag United Methodist Church and the Drew United Methodist Church in Carmel.

Mrs. Meldrum is survived by a son, John S. Meldrum of Rogers, Ark.; a daughter, Barbara Vail of Carmel; six grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Drew United Methodist Church, Route 52, Carmel, NY 10512, or to the Poughquag United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 782, Poughquag, NY 12570.

There are no calling hours.

Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Beekman Cemetery.

The Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Terrace, Brewster is in charge of arrangements.

Concetta P. Leblanc
Concetta P. Rossitto Leblanc, 59, a senior clerk for Grolier Inc. in Danbury, died Sunday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Leblanc, of 35 Boyce Road, Danbury, was the wife of Edward L. Leblanc.

She was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on June 5, 1938, a daughter of Antonio and Bettina Tarascio Rossitto. She attended schools in Port Chester and Harrison, N.Y. She lived in Greenwich until moving to Danbury 35 years ago.

Mrs. Leblanc had been employed by Grolier Inc. for the past 20 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Leblanc is survived by two sons, Dennis E. and Kenneth A. Leblanc, both of Danbury; four brothers, Patrick Rossitto and Anthony Rossitto, both of Harrison, N.Y., Joseph Ross of Suffern, N.Y., and Vincent Rossitto of New Fairfield; a sister, Marion Sierzega of Harrison; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North St., Danbury 06810.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.'

Ellen Murphy
Ellen Murphy, 75, a retired bank clerk, died Monday at the Westchester County Medical Center.

A resident of Patterson for the past 34 years, Mrs. Murphy was the wife of the late James Murphy. Mrs. Murphy lived in Manhattan until moving to Patterson.

She was born in New York, N.Y., on Oct. 17, 1922, a daughter of Dennis and Leona Heath Brannick. She was educated in New York City public schools.

During World War II, Mrs. Murphy served as a volunteer with the Red Cross in New York.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Murphy was employed for 10 years at the Dollar Savings Bank in Manhattan.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Elks Lodge 2101 in Brewster. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake.

Her survivors include a son, James M. Kirby of Middletown, N.Y.; a brother, Dennis Brannick of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Banks of New Rochelle, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Terrace, Brewster.

SERVICES: Thursday at 11 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake. BUrial will be in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery.

Mae C. Brenner
Mae C. Brenner, 92, a retired secretary for a manufacturing company, died Monday at the Filosa Convalescent Center in Danbury.

Mrs. Brenner formerly lived in Astoria, N.Y. She was the wife of the late William Brenner.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 22, 1905, she was a daughter of Peter and Margaret Floor Daly.

Mrs. Brenner was a member of Most Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church in Long Island City, N.Y.

She is survived by her nephew, Dr. Thomas P. Nipper of Sherman.

Burial will take place on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Long Island City, N.Y.

The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy M. Stratton
Dorothy Marjorie Stratton, 97, a retired buyer, died Monday at Mediplex of Southbury.

Mrs. Stratton formerly lived at 184B Heritage Village, Southbury. She moved to Southbury 13 years ago. She was the wife of the late John F.O. Stratton.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 29, 1900, a daughter of Caryl Leslie and Ella May Faupel Young.

While living in New York City, Mrs. Stratton was employed for more than 30 years as the chief buyer in charge of stationery for many companies on Fifth Avenue, including Tiffany & Co. She had many prestigious clients, including John F. and Jacquelyn B. Kennedy, whom she assisted for many years with their personal as well as presidential stationary.

Mrs. Stratton is survived by a son, John C. Stratton of Naples, Fla.; a granddaughter, Caryl S. Stratton, formerly of Newtown; four great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Wellers Cemetery, Roxbury.

The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, Southbury is in charge of arrangements.'

Marion Jesse Turner
Marion Jesse Turner, 91, of 130 Doyle Road, Bantam, Conn., died Saturday at Ashlar of Newtown.

Mrs. Turner was the wife of the late William L. Turner.

She was born in Roxbury on Sept. 1, 1906, a daughter of Thomas and Augusta Eyre Madin.

Mrs. Turner was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Woodbury.

In Largo, Fla., she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #101 and the Order of the Amaranth Inc., Court #43.

Her survivors include four sons, William Turner of Pine City, Minn., Harold Turner of Reed City, Mich., Thomas Turner of Southbury, and Bruce Turner of Bantam; a daughter, Irene Phelan of Woodbury; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted in the spring at the New North Cemetery in Woodbury.

The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, Main Street South, Woodbury is in charge of arrangements.

Carol J. Charron
Carol J. Charron, 80, a retired psychiatric aide at Fairfield Hills Hospital, died Saturday at her home at Nunnawauk Meadows in Newtown.

Mrs. Charron was the wife of the late Irmand Charron.

She was born in Benson, Vt., on Feb. 9, 1918, a daughter of Horace and Jennie Wilcox King.

Before moving to Newtown in 1958, Mrs. Charron and her husband operated a dairy farm in West Haven, Vt.

She was a member of St. Rose Church.

Her survivors include a son, Phillip Charron of Castleton, Vt.; two daughters, Phyllis Gillotti of Benson, Vt., and Denise Pinter of Bridgewater, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph Charron.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Newtown Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 344, Newtown 06470.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven, Vt.

SERVICES: Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fair Haven, Vt. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fair Haven.'

Eleanor H. Henry
Eleanor H. Henry, 80, a retired accounting clerk, died Sunday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Henry had lived in Bethel for the past 46 years.

She was born in Bridgeport on Feb. 11, 1918, a daughter of Stanislaus and Stella Zelinski Kolwicz. She was brought up in Danbury and attended Danbury schools.

Before her retirement 15 years ago, Mrs. Henry was employed for more than 25 years at the Mideastern Envelope Co. of Danbury.

She was a member of the Bethel Historical Society and a was former member of the Bethel Business and Professional Women's Association. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel.

SERVICES: Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Brookfield Congregational Church with the Rev. Peter Wiley officiating. Cremation will take place at Ferncliff Crematory, Hartsdale, N.Y.

Ruth Cummins
Ruth Brank Cummins of Cobble Road, Salisbury, and formerly of the New Preston area of Washington, Conn., died Friday at Noble Horizon in Salisbury. She was 94.

Miss Cummins was born in Charlevoix, Mich., Aug. 11, 1903, a daughter of Thomas and Sarah Brank Cummins. She spent her early life in Henderson, Ky.

She graduated from the Fifth Avenue Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and later received a bachelor's of science degree from Columbia University.

She was a public health nurse with the Community Service Society in New York City for a number of years, and then served during World War II with the U.S. Army Nurses Corps as a 1st Lt. in Asiatic and Pacific theaters. She then worked as a medical social worker at both Metropolitan and St. Luke's hospitals, both in New York City.

In 1951, she moved to New Preston, and worked as a nurse at Rumsey Hall School in Washington and the Kent School in Kent. She then worked as a social worker for the state Department of Child Welfare. She retired in 1966.

Survivors include two nieces, Ruth Reeves of Plandome, N.Y., and Sally Watson of Columbia, Mo.

Contributions in her memory may be made to either the Washington/Warren Visiting Nurse Association, 131 New Milford Turnpike, New Preston 06777 or the Book of Remembrance, New Preston Congregational Church.

SERVICES: Memorial service, March 7, 2 p.m., New Preston Congregational Church, Washington. Burial in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Ky. Arrangements by Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford.'

Carl Iwertz Jr.
Carl E. Iwertz Jr. of Newtown died Sunday at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was 67.

Mr. Iwertz was the widower of Bessie Covert Iwertz.

He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., a son of Ina Lindstrom Iwertz of Newtown and the late Carl E. Iwertz Sr. A resident of the Sandy Hook area of Newtown for the past four years, he previously lived in Monroe. A graduate of Utah State University, he was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was a self-employed contractor for 20 years, and had owned Skane Sales & Service Inc. in Bridgeport.

He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints; a member of the Troop Committee and former scout master of Boy Scout Troop 268 in Trumbull; and belonged to the Northstar Singers and the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two sons, Charles E. of Henderson, Nev., and Carl E. of Monroe; a daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Ann LaRosa of Canaan; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Iwertz may be made to the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints, 30 Bonnie View Drive, Trumbull.

CALLING HOURS: Today, 4 to 8 p.m., Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints, 30 Bonnie View Drive, Trumbull.

SERVICES: Tomorrow, 10 a.m., at the church. Bishop Kevin Kaufman will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be conducted at Maple Grove Memorial Park, Easton. Arrangements by the Harding Funeral Home of Westport.'
