Dorothy Blair
Dorothy Sackett Blair of Middlebury, step-mother of Pearl Davis of Newtown, died Saturday at Waterbury Hospital. She was 79.

Mrs. Blair was the widow of Claud Blair.

Besides her step-daughter, she is survived by two daughters, a brother, two sisters, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Contributions in memory of Dorothy Blair may be made to a charity of one's choice.

SERVICES: Memorial service, Jan. 17, 10:30 a.m., United Methodist Church, Woodbury.'

Gregory Murray
Gregory W. Murray of 4 Antler Pine Road, Newtown, died Wednesday at his home. He was 32.

Mr. Murray was born in Monticello, Ind., on May 13, 1965, a son of Lawrence and Jean Revett Murray of Newtown. He was a 1982 graduate of Newtown High School and a 1986 graduate of Indiana University. He was a buyer for Lillian Vernon of New Rochelle, N.Y., for several years.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Eric, of Tampa, Fla., and Sean, of New York City; a sister, Teresa Brown of Newtown; his paternal grandmother, Mary Murray of Monticello; a niece, three nephews and several aunts and uncles.

Isaac Van Vlack
Isaac ``Ike'' Van Vlack, 78, a well driller and a former resident of Carmel, N.Y., died Wednesday in Venice, Fla.

Mr. Van Vlack, of Venice, Fla., was the husband of Jeanne Jenkins Van Vlack.

He was born in Patterson, N.Y., on May 21, 1919. He had moved from Carmel to Florida 21 years ago.

He was a past noble grand of the I.O.O.F. in Brewster, N.Y.; a member of American Legion Post #159 in Venice, Fla.; and a member of the Venice Presbyterian Church.

During World War II, Mr. Van Vlack was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Until his retirement, he was owner of the I. Van Vlack & Son Well Drillers of Carmel, N.Y.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard Van Vlack and a daughter, Dolores Knapp, both of Carmel, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Gilead Presbyterian Church in Carmel, N.Y.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Burial will take place in Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel, N.Y.

Jean Franks
Jean Franks, a former dental assistant who had lived at 27 Glen Apartments, Danbury, died Monday at her home. She was 67.

Mrs. Franks was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Nov. 19, 1930, a daughter of Herbert and Jennie Mae (Colter) Lawrence. Before moving to Danbury in 1988, she had lived in Carmel, N.Y.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ashby of Bethel; two brothers, Robert Lawrence of Jefferson, Maine, and William Lawrence of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Jefferson in the spring. The Tomlinson Homestead is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Grace Barago
Mary Grace Barago, 5, daughter of John Jr. and Bonnie MacDonald Barago, died Saturday at her home.

Mary Grace lived at 21 Flat Swamp Road in Newtown.

She was born in Danbury, June 7, 1992.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Michael Barago; a sister, Rachel Barago; her maternal grandparents, Angus and Joanne MacDonald of Newtown; her paternal grandparents, John and Mildred Barago, also of Newtown; her maternal great-grandparents, Henry and Helen MacDonald of Sharon, Conn.; her maternal great-grandmother, Leona Heady of Bridgeport, Conn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Contributions in Mary Grace's memory may be made to Grace Christian Fellowship Children's Church, 120 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown 06470.

CALLING HOURS: Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newton.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, Route 6, Newtown. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Catherine A. Breslin
Catherine A. Breslin, 53, a eucharistic minister at St. Peter Church, died Saturday at her home.

Ms. Breslin lived at 43-3 Fairview Drive, Danbury.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on June 24, 1944, a daughter of James and Margaret Jones Breslin.

Her survivors include two daughters, Donna Schumacher of Malverne, N.Y., and Doreen Koentje of Lynbrook, N.Y.; three sisters, Patricia Conroy of New Fairfield, Margaret Gleaman of Beachwood, N.J., and Rose Breslin of Rockaway Park, N.Y.; a brother, John Breslin, also of Rockaway Park; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Monday and Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church. Burial will take place in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.'

Helen S. Prescott
Helen S. Prescott, 71, a retired employee of the State of Connecticut Motor Vehicle Department, died Saturday at her home at 8 Marbil Road, Danbury.

Mrs. Prescott was the wife of William J. Prescott Sr.

A lifelong Danbury resident, she was born in Danbury on Sept. 17, 1926, a daughter of Anthony and Katherine Borodenko Urbanowski. She was a graduate of Danbury High School.

Before her 1988 retirement, Mrs. Prescott worked in the Danbury office of the Department of Motor Vehicles for 18 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Prescott is survived by two sons, William J. Prescott Jr. of Danbury and Robert Prescott of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Judith Prescott of Danbury; a brother, Chester A. Urbanowski; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Sunday, January 18, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at eh Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Monday, Jan. 19, at 9:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in the Elmwood Section of Center Cemetery, Bethel.

Ida F. Whalen
Ida F. Whalen, 95, the mother of Lillian Farrell of Danbury, died Saturday at the Waterview Hills Nursing Home.

A resident of Purdys, N.Y., for the past eight years, Mrs. Whalen was the wife of the late Thomas M. Whalen.

She was born in New York City on Feb. 7, 1902.

Mrs. Whalen was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking.

Besides her daughter in Danbury, she is survived by a son, Thomas P. Whalen of Clinton Corners, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Clarke Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, N.Y.

Margaret M. Cihocki
Margaret M. Cihocki, 75, a longtime Danbury resident, died Sunday at her home at 28 Tanglewood Drive.

Mrs. Cihocki was the wife of the late John Cihocki.

She was born in Virden, Ill., on May 31, 1922, a daughter of Charles and Anna Klobisicki Washico. She grew up in Dunmore, Pa., and moved to Danbury 56 years ago.

Before her retirement in 1988, Mrs. Cihocki worked for many years at the Consolidated Controls Company.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Danbury.

Her survivors include a daughter, Ann Marie Curran of Danbury; a son, John Cihocki of Danbury; a sister, Teresa Addessi of Danbury; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Nando F. Barone
Nando F. Barone, 69, a former Danbury resident and the father of area residents Stephen and Robert Barone of New Milford and Anne Marie Zschoche of Danbury, died Sunday at Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, N.Y.

Mr. Barone, of Pelham, N.Y., was the husband of Marie DeCesare D'Adamo Barone.

He was born in Tuckahoe, N.Y., on March 11, 1928, a son of Joseph and Gemma Cati Barone. He was a graduate of Tuckahoe High School.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1947 to 1949 and attained the rank of sergeant.

For 33 years, Mr. Barone worked as a wholesale milkman for the Dellwood Dairy in Yonkers, N.Y. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of St. Catharine's Church in Pelham and the Knights of Columbus in Tuckahoe.

Besides his wife and two sons and daughter, Mr. Barone is survived by another son, Richard Barone of Winchester, Pa.; two stepchildren, Jill Huey and Gary D'Adamo; three brothers, Enzo Barone of Clearwater, Fla., Gino Barone of Littleton, Colo., and Louis Barone of Dunedin, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

William R. Matson
William R. Matson, a trailer driver for Kimberly-Clark Corp. of New Milford, died Monday at his home at 14 Meadow Drive, Brookfield.

Mr. Matson was the husband of Joan C. Joslin Matson.

He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., a son of William and Adele Zugorski Matson. He was educated in Bronx schools.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served for four years aboard the Destroyer USS John R. Pierce. Before entering the Navy, he served two years with the Army National Guard.

Mr. Matson lived in New Milford for five years before moving to Brookfield in 1982.

For the past 12 years, he was employed at Kimberly Clark. He previously drove for the Magnone Brothers Oil Co. of New York City.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Brookfield, the Teamsters Union of New York City, and the Tin Can Sailors Association.

Besides his wife, Mr. Matson is survived by two sons, William R. Matson Jr. of Sandy, Ore., and Gregory J. Matson of New Milford; a daughter, Beth C. Pilling of Oakland, Iowa; two grandchildren, James Matson of Oregon and Caroline Pilling of Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.

SERVICES: Friday at 11:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield. Cremation will follow.'

William J. Igoe

Dr. William J. Igoe, 81, a retired dentist and an active health advocate for AARP #576, died Monday at the Pope John Paul Center for Health Care, Danbury.

Dr. Igoe, of 134 Stony Hill Village, Brookfield, was the husband of Kathryn Conolly Igoe.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 29, 1916, he was a son of Patrick and Hannah Cashman Igoe.

He attended Brooklyn Preparatory, Manhattan College and the Georgetown School of Dentistry where he was a fellow at the Murray and Lennie Guggenheim Clinic and received the Periodontic Award at his graduation. He was a life member of Delta Sigma Delta and served a term as its president.

Dr. Igoe was a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1943 to 1947.

Following his military career, he started a private dental practice in New York City and Scarsdale, N.Y. He was an attending oral surgeon at St. Claire's Hospital in New York City for many years. He was an active member of the American Dental Society.

Following his retirement in 1987, Dr. Igoe moved to Brookfield and became active with AARP #576, where he served as a health advocate. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Church in Brookfield, the Retired Men's Club of Brookfield, and the St. Appolonia Guild Catholic Dentists Society of New York.

Besides his wife of 50 years, Dr. Igoe is survived by two sons, William J. Igoe of Staten Island, N.Y., and Gregory P. Igoe of Londonderry, N.H.; two daughters, Lorraine I. Hickey of Brookfield and Kathryn M. Igoe of Bethesda, Md.; a sister, Ruth McCabe of Providence, R.I.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Thursday at 9 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y.

Hazel Spiotti
Hazel Beardsley Spiotti, 91, a resident of Sandy Hook for the past 50 years, died Sunday at Mediplex of Southbury.

Mrs. Spiotti was the wife of the late Clarence Spiotti. She lived at 164 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

She was born in Southbury on July 31, 1906, a daughter of Charles and Clara Beardsley Beardsley.

For many years, Mrs. Spiotti was employed as a machine operator at the Jenkins Valve Co. in Bridgeport.

She was a 50 plus member of Stella Chapter #55 Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Pohtatuck and Pomona Grange.

Her survivors include two cousins, Jane Spakowski and Doris Metcalf, both of Southbury.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown.

SERVICES: Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook. Burial will be in Zoar Cemetery.'
