Norris Wildman
Norris Albert Wildman, 95, of Gaylord Road, New Milford, a longtime civic activist and former president of New Milford Hospital, died Monday at New Milford Hospital. He was 95.

Mr. Wildman was the widower of Gladys Brown Parkinson Wildman.

He was born in New Milford, May 6, 1902, a son of Albert N. and Arline Skiff Wildman. He spent his early life in New Milford and graduated from New Milford High School. After school, he went to work for a finance company in Waterbury and then managed an office in Perth Amboy, N.J.

He joined the Beneficial Finance Co. of New York in 1924, and enjoyed a 41-year career, first as a branch manager and then rising through the company and as an auditing supervisor, director of all supervisors in New York State and then as president _ a post he held for 15 years before retiring in 1964.

He returned to New Milford, settling in Gaylordsville, and became active in civic matters. He served as president of New Milford Hospital from 1969 to 1974, served as the town's welfare director for eight years and served on the board of directors of the New Milford Visiting Nurse Association. He was a member of the New Milford Historical Society, an honorary member of the Gaylordsville Fire Department and a longtime active member of the First Congregational Church of New Milford.

He also was a longtime member of Rotary International and a member of the New Milford Rotary Club. Last year, the club presented him with the Paul Harris award for community service for the second time. In honor of the event, Mayor Arthur Peitler declared March 23, 1997 as Norris A. Wildman Day.

A longtime Shriner, he was a member of Bayonne-Bergen Temple No. 99 F.&A.M. of Bayonne N.J. and a life member of Kismet Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of New Hyde Park, N.Y. He was also a former member of the Connecticut State Petroleum Products Control Commission and a past chairman of the United Funding Council.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris W. Zeff of Glen Cove, N.Y.; a sister Carol Wildman of New Milford; two step-daughters, Bonnie Hawthorne and Gail Turnquist, both of New Milford; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: Friday, 11 a.m., First Congregational Church of New Milford, with the Rev. Michael J. Moran, pastor, officiating. Burial in Morningside Cemetery, New Milford.

St. Peter's Lodge of Masons will conduct a Masonic Service at the funeral home Thursday at 8 p.m.'

Everett Stilwell
Everett L. Stilwell of 2 Highview Road, Ridgefield, died Monday at his home. He was 69.
Mr. Stilwell was the husband of Edith Leidolf Stilwell.

He was born in Greenwich, Nov. 2, 1928, a son of the late John Westly and Evelyn Barnes Stilwell. He was a peacetime veteran of the Air Force who served in Pensacola, Fla.

An employee with Ring's End Lumber for more than 30 years, he retired in 1997 as manager of its Bethel and Lewisboro stores. He assisted in the New Store after retiring.

He had lived in Ridgefield for the past 39 years and was previously of the Glenbrook section of Stamford.

He enjoyed boating on Long Island Sound and camping at Shea Island in the Norwalk group of islands.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L. Stilwell of Danbury and Randy Stilwell of Plainfield; two daughters, Bonnie Pribanic of Greenwich and Laurie Stilwell of New Milford; a brother, Jack Stilwell of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Contributions in memory of Everett Stilwell may be made to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 90 E. Ridge, Ridgefield, CT 06877; or to the Oncology Department, Danbury Hospital, care of the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury CT 06810.

There are no calling hours, funeral services will be at the convenience of the family and burial is private. Arrangements by Kane Funeral Home of Danbury.

Helen Tollen
Helen H. Tollen, formerly of 20 Falmouth Court, Brookfield, died Monday at Mediplex of Danbury. She was 96.

Mrs. Tollen was the widow of Raymond Tollen.

She was born in New York City, Dec. 10, 1901, a daughter of Frederick and Barbra Herwek Herbel. She was educated in New York City schools. For more than 50 years she worked in the jewelry trade _ the last 40 of which she worked in sales for the Vedura Jewelry Salon in New York City. She worked well into her 80s before retiring.

She lived in the area for the past seven years, including Brookfield for three years and Augustanna Homes in Bethel for one year.

Survivors include a nephew, Douglas Owens of Brookfield and a niece, Barbara Hutchinson of Santa Rosa, Calif.

At her request there are no formal services and cremation will be at the family's convenience. Arrangements by Brookfield Funeral Home.' pu,obit

Beatrice Roux
Beatrice Marie Roux of 36 W. Wooster St., Danbury, died Monday at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center, Danbury. She was 82.
Mrs. Roux was born Brunhild Gordon in Stockholm, Sweden, March 7, 1915, a daughter of the late Sanfrid Gordon. She moved to the United States in 1920 and lived in New York City and Mamaroneck, N.Y., before coming to Danbury in 1952.

Survivors include a son, Richard of Bel Air, Md.; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joyce Isaacs.

There are no calling hours and cremation is under the direction of Ferncliff Crematory in Hartsdale, N.Y. Arrangements by Hull Funeral Service of Danbury.

Muriel MacKenzie
Muriel Cooper MacKenzie of Toddy Hill Road, Newtown, died Friday at Danbury Hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. MacKenzie was the widow of David H. MacKenzie Jr.

She was born in Bridgeport, Dec. 18, 1913, a daughter of the late James E. and Lydia Cooper. Mrs. MacKenzie was a fifth-grade teacher who lived in Fairfield before moving to Ashlar of Newtown.

Survivors include three daughters, Beth of Los Angeles, Calif., L. Harley Elia of Winchester, Mass., and Julia of Stratford; and four grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Birdcraft Sanctuary Museum, 314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield 06430.

Marie Zabarouskas
Marie M. Zabarouskas of 140 Barberry Hill Road, Ridgefield, died Tuesday at Laurel Care Center in Ridgefield. She was 72.
Mrs. Zabarouskas was the widow of Walter J. Zabarouskas.

She was born in Bayonne, N.J., May 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Marchanyk Pashenick. She worked in the Ridgefield schools before retiring in the 1980s. A Ridgefield resident since 1961, she previously lived in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Ridgefield.

Survivors include two sons, Michael of San Diego, Calif., and W. Mark of Ridgefield; a daughter, Patricia Bass of Lockport, Ill.; a brother, Peter Skinner of Newport Richey, Fla.; two sisters, Suzanne Pashenick of North Bergen, N.J., and Katherine Varhol of Bayonne; and two grandchildren.

Grace M. Ruopp
Services for Grace M. Ruopp will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury with the Rev. Dr. Richard E. Kuehnert officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruopp, 84, a former Danbury resident, died Monday at the home of her son, David E. Ruopp, at 9900 Two Robins Court, Raleigh, N.C. She was the wife of Ernest J. Ruopp.

Janet Austin
Janet Austin, 53, a former longtime New Milford resident, died Wednesday at her home in Marble Dale, Conn.

Mrs. Austin was the wife of Richard J. Austin Sr.

She was born in Sharon, Conn., on Feb. 6, 1945, a daughter of Edith Hathaway Coons of Seffner, Fla., and the late Leslie Shaw Coons. She was educated in Trivoli, N.Y.

Mrs. Austin lived in New Milford until moving to Marble Dale seven years ago.

For many years, she was employed as a housekeeper in private homes in the New Milford area. She also worked for the Burndy Company in New Milford.

Besides her husband of 36 years and her mother, Mrs. Austin is survived by a son, Richard Jr. of Marble Dale; a daughter, Terrylynn Winters of Torrington; four brothers, David Coons of New Milford, Leslie Coons of Lady Lake, Fla., Clayton Coons of Trenton, Fla., and Myron Coons of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Edith Colby and Doris Hollister, both of Seffner, Fla., and Helene Tompkins of Washington, Conn.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in Mrs. Austin's memory may be made to the New Milford Hospital Foundation, Radiation and Oncology Center, 21 Elm St., New Milford 06776.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford. There will be a period of remembrance at 8:45 p.m.

Burial will be in the spring in Underwood Meadows Cemetery.'

Verena Gertsch
Verena Gertsch, 96, a retired seamstress, died Wednesday at her home at 8 Ferris Road, Newtown.

Mrs. Gertsch was the wife of the late Albert Gertsch.

She was born in Gondiswil, Switzerland, on Sept. 26, 1901, a daughter of Friedrich and Emma Nyfeler.

Mrs. Gertsch came to the United States in 1927 and moved to Newtown in 1977.

Her survivors include a son, Erich A. Gertsch with whom she made her home in Newtown; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Private services will take place at the convenience of the family with cremation at Mountain Grove Crematory in Bridgeport.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown is in charge of arrangements.'

Ernest A. Stein
Ernest A. Stein, 91, a Danbury resident for the past 75 years, died Tuesday at Mediplex of Danbury.

Mr. Stein, of 17 Cleveland St., Danbury, was the husband of Adeline Fisher Stein.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1906, a son of Ernest and Emma Forrster Steikowski.

During his career, Mr. Stein worked as a hatter for the Paul Martin Hat Shop and retired from Blackstone Industries in Bethel.

He was a member of Progressive Lodge #18 Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was also a member of the Central Christian Church.

Besides his wife of 69 years, Mr. Stein is survived by a son, Richard Stein of New Fairfield; a daughter, Nancy St. Jean of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Box 2292, Westport 06880.

SERVICES: Friday at 11 a.m. at The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury with the Rev. Crawford Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Anastasia Rostafin
Anastasia Rostafin, 72, the mother of Roman J. Rostafin of Newtown, died Tuesday at the Westchester Medical Center.

A resident of the Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Rostafin was the wife of the late Tadeusz Rostafin.

She was born in Ukraine on Aug. 6, 1925, a daughter of Ivan and Kasha Dwernicka.

After living in Munich, Germany, she moved to the United States in 1951 and settled in the Bronx.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Rostafin was employed for more than 30 years as a maintenance worker.

Besides her son, Mrs. Rostafin is survived by three grandsons. She was predeceased by a son, George Rostafin.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sisto Funeral Home, 3489 East Tremont Ave., Bronx.

SERVICES: Saturday at 10 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis de Chantal, Bronx. Burial will take place in Our Lady of Czhestohowa Cemetery, Doylestown, Pa.

Claire L. Dyer
Claire L. Dyer, 86, the mother of Joan Nutting of Bethel, died December 17, 1997, at her home in Rockville, Md.

Mrs. Dyer was the wife of Francis L. Dyer.

She was born in Niantic on June 9, 1911, a daughter of George and Lillian Atkinson. She was educated in Yonkers, N.Y.

Mrs. Dyer lived briefly in Bethel.

Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. Dyer is survived by four daughters, Janet Titus and Arline Dick, both of Maryland, Patricia Schleapfer of California, and Beulah Merritt of Reno, Nev.; two sons, Raymond of Waterbury, Conn., and Richard of Titusville, Fla.; a brother, Frank Atkinson of New Milford; a sister, Beulah Atkinson of Hamilton, Bermuda; 30 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: Friday at 1 p.m., a memorial service at the United Methodist Church, Greenwood Avenue, Bethel with the Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Niantic.'

Greta M. Morgan
Greta M. Morgan, 84, a retired nurse and a former Danbury resident, died January 28 in Milford, Mass.

Mrs. Morgan was the wife of Francis L. Morgan Sr.

She was born in Gordonsville, New Brunswick, Canada, on Nov. 28, 1913, a daughter of William and Anne Crandlemeyer Jones.

A 1935 graduate of the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing, she worked as a private duty nurse for many years.

Besides her husband of 59 years, Mrs. Morgan is survived by a son, Francis L. Morgan Jr. of Hopkinton, Mass.; a daughter, Kathleen A. Benso of Clifton Park, N.Y.; a brother, Fred Jones of Ridgefield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Saturday at noon, a memorial service at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury with the Rev. Crawford H. Harmon officiating.

Donald C Kunz Sr.
Donald C. Kunz Sr., 63, an automobile mechanic, died Saturday at New Milford Hospital.

Mr. Kunz, of 8 Wicker Lane, New Milford, was the husband of Jean F. Moynihan Kunz.

He was born in Stamford on Dec. 22, 1934, a son of Frank and June Shreve Kunz.

Mr. Kunz had been a resident of New Milford for more than 30 years.

Besides his wife of 42 years, he is survived by a son Donald C. Kunz Jr. of New Milford; a daughter, Barbara Streaman of New Milford; three sisters, Frances Canders and Penny Maello, both of West Springfield, Mass., and Winnie Powers of Springfield, Mass.; and four grandchildren.

There are no calling hours.

Cremation will take place at Ferncliff Crematory, Hartsdale, N.Y.
