Gail Carlson
Gail Miller Carlson, 57, an employee of DATAHR in Brookfield, died Saturday at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Miller lived at 185 Beard Drive, New Milford.
She was born in Norwalk, Conn., July 22, 1940, a daughter of June Launiere Miller of Naples, Fla., and the late Charles F. Miller.
She spent her early life in Norwalk and was a graduate of Staples High School in Westport. She moved from Wilton to New Milford in 1984.
Formerly employed for many years at the Stop & Shop in New Milford, she most recently worked at DATAHR.
An active volunteer with the New Milford Ambulance Association, Mrs. Miller also served as a member of the Board of Directors.
Besides her mother, she is survived by a son, Christopher Carlson of Danbury; two daughters, Lori Carlson of Oakville, Conn., and Deborah Obman of Weston, Conn.; sister, Kathleen F. Haas of New Milford; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella J. Johnson
Stella J. Daniels Johnson, 79, an active volunteer, died Saturday at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
Mrs. Johnson, of Heritage Village, Southbury, was the wife of the late William A. Johnson.
She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., Sept. 20, 1918, a daughter of Paul and Julia Daniels.
She lived in Trumbull for many years before moving to Heritage Village in 1972.
Her survivors include a daughter, Catherine Johnson of Wellesley, Mass.; two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Dorin, also of Wellesley; and three brothers and three sisters.

Elmer J. Morris
Elmer J. Morris, 78, a former area resident, died Saturday at the UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania.
A resident of Everett, Pa., Mr. Morris was the husband of Olla Retta Imler Morris.
He was born in Clearville, Pa., on June 18, 1919, a son of Jacob Elmer and Elmira Smith Morris.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in Company E of the First Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Before his retirement, Mr. Morris was a foreman for Connecticut Foundations of New Milford.
In Pennsylvania, he was a member of The Village Church, Assembly of God in Bedford.
Besides his wife of 57 years, Mr. Morris is survived by a daughter, Alice L. Miller of Newtown; two sons, John R. Morris of Everett, Pa., and Elmer Thomas Morris of Washington, Conn.; two brothers, Homer Morris of Chambersburg, Pa., and Leonard Morris of Clearville, Pa.; four sisters, Evelyn Whetstone and Minnie Whetstone, both of Manns Choice, Pa., Betty McCreary of Morresville, Ind., and Beda Rose of Beallsville, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Vernessa Holcolmbe
Vernessa S. Holcolmbe, 88, a retired nurse, died Sunday in Waterbury Hospital.
Mrs. Holcolmbe, of 180 Lakemere Drive, Southbury, was the wife of the late Clement M. Holcolmbe.
She was born in Taber, Alberta, Canada, on Sept., 22, 1909, a daughter of Daniel D. and Eveline Smith Pierson.
A longtime resident of Sacramento, Calif., she worked as a nurse while living there.
She later moved to Nevada and has been a resident of Southbury since 1990.
In Southbury, she was employed for a time at the McDonald's restaurant. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Women's Relief Society of the Church. She was also a member of the ``pie ladies'' of the Woodbury Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church Women.
Her survivors include a son, George Arnold of Oregon; two daughters, Barbara Etcheto of Southbury and Ethel Marie Deets of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Darwin Pierson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren.
There are no calling hours.
SERVICES: Saturday at 12 noon, a memorial service at the Southbury Church of Latter-Day Saints, 1021 Roxbury Road, Southbury with Bishop G. Markell Fluckiger officiating.

Alice Tierney-Lezon
Alice M. Tierney-Lezon, 40, a special education teacher and author and former resident of Brewster, died Monday at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Mrs. Tierney-Lezon, of Dover Plains, N.Y., was the wife of Stephen F. Lezon.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Nov. 27, 1957, she was a daughter of Francis and Lenore McKiernan Tierney of Brewster.
She received an associates degree from SUNY at Cobbleskill in 1979, a bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1983, and a master's degree in special education from Southern Connecticut University in 1989.
Mrs. Tierney-Lezon had been employed as a special education teacher with the Dover Union Free School District since 1992. She also worked as a resource consultant and inclusion teacher in the Dover Elementary School in Dover Plains.
Previously employed at the Green Chimneys School in Brewster, she was a physical education aquatics coordinator and also served as the health and safety in house training coordinator.
She was the author of the book ``Adapted Aquatics for Everybody.''
Mrs. Tierney-Lezon was a member of the New York State Teachers Association. She served as a volunteer with the Dover Girl Scout Troop and was a Dover United Soccer League coach. She was an instructor with the Red Cross and taught CPR, Lifeguard, and Advanced life Support in Putnam and Westchester Counties. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by a daughter and son, Carolyn Lezon and David Lezon, both of Dover Plains; and five sisters, Lenore Cunningham of Brewster, Kathleen Tierney of New Lebanon, N.Y., Maura Tierney of Granby, Conn., Patricia Kenel of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kerry Tripoli of Pawling. She was predeceased by a son, Kevin Stephen Lezon, in 1990.

Helen Paltrowitz
Helen Loshin Paltrowitz, a Danbury native who was a former teacher and businesswoman and active member of the United Jewish Center of Danbury, died Friday.
Mrs. Paltrowitz, of 24 Juniper Ridge Drive, Danbury, was the wife of the late Leroy E. Paltrowitz who was the business manager of The News-Times for 43 years before his retirement.
Born in Danbury on Dec. 11, 1908, she was a daughter of Samuel and Mary Loshin. Mr. Loshin was the founder of the Federal Glass Co. in Danbury.
Mrs. Paltrowitz was educated in Danbury schools and was a graduate of the Danbury Normal School which is now Western Connecticut State University.
She began a career in teaching and was employed by the New Milford School System in the 1920s and 1930s.
After teaching for a number of years, Mrs. Paltrowitz switched careers and ran the Danbury Advertising Agency for 40 years.
She was a lifetime member of the United Jewish Center and served as president of the Sisterhood for many, many years. She was also involved with the Hadassah and taught religious classes.
Her survivors include two sons, Michael Paltrowitz and Ronald Paltrowitz, both of New York City; a brother, Nathan Loshin of Florida; three sisters, Alice Weinger and Ida Fried, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and Freda Gans of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services took place at the United Jewish Center on Sunday with burial in the United Jewish Center Cemetery, Grey's Bridge Road, Brookfield.

Mary E. Genovese
Mary Elizabeth Genovese, 91, a former resident of Brewster where she was an active member of the community, died Sunday at the New Paltz Nursing Home, New Paltz, N.Y.
Mrs. Genovese was the wife of the late Horace T. Genovese who died in 1969.
She was born in New York City on Feb. 12, 1908, a daughter of Salvatore and Rose Panatoliano Genovese.
Mrs. Genovese was a homemaker and lived in Brewster until moving to New Paltz in 1993.
In Brewster, she was a member of the Senior Citizens of Brewster, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brewster Fire Department, and St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church where she was a former Eucharistic Minister. She was also a founding member of the Brewster Italian American Club.
Her survivors include two sons, Horace V. Genovese of Brewster and Vincent Genovese of Stuyvesant, N.Y.; two daughters, Rosemarie Simard of Gardiner, N.Y., and Marianna Fowler of Glens Falls, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Charles B. Hofmann
Charles B. Hofmann, 84, a retired advertising executive, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Hofmann, of 520 Main St., Ridgefield, was the husband of Jeanne Meskill Hofmann. He was predeceased by his first wife, Susanna Lancaster Hofmann, in 1963.
He was born in Queens, N.Y., on April 27, 1913, a son of John and Maude Brutschin Hofmann. He was a graduate of Pace University.
Before his retirement in 1978, Mr. Hofmann was vice president of Foote, Cone and Belding Communications, Inc. He worked in the firm's New York office.
A Ridgefield resident for the past 43 years, he was a member of the Ridgefield Men's Club and was a past member of the Wilton Kiwanis Club and the Waccabuc Country Club. He also served and early term on the Ridgefield Community Center's Board of Directors.
Mr. Hofmann was an accomplished pianist and volunteered his talents providing music to senior centers and convalescent homes in the Ridgefield area.
Besides his wife of 32 years, Mr. Hofmann is survived by a son, Charles John Hofmann of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Susanna Hofmann McShea of Martinsville, N.J., and Gretchen Hofmann of Singapore; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arthur R. French
Arthur R. French, 70, a self-employed plumbing and heating contractor, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. French, of 8 Greenlawn Drive, Danbury, was the husband of Myrtle Whitlock French.
He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Nov. 17, 1927, a son of Albert and Helena Espetitee French.
A Danbury area resident for most of his life, he was a graduate of Danbury High School.
Mr. French served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Arthur Natale of Florida; six daughters, Kathleen Jowdy, Dotti McBreairty of St. Francis, Maine; April Cannariato of Wallington, N.J., Diane Cossuto of Bridgewater, Conn., Sue Jones of Danbury, and Dawn French of New Milford; a sister, Marion Eaton of Manchester, Conn.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Arthur R. ``Arty'' French Jr., in 1981.

John Lynch Jr.
John ``Jack'' Francis Lynch Jr., of 209 County Road, North Falmouth, Mass., and formerly of Manor Road, Ridgefield, died Monday at his home. He was 82.
The son of John F. and Mary McMahon Lynch, he was born May 3, 1915, in Yonkers, N.Y., where he was reared. He received a bachelor's degree in ceramic technology from Alfred University in Corning, N.Y.
Beginning his career in textiles with the Alexander Smith Co. in Yonkers, he later managed several mills in Lawrence, Mass., before moving to Ridgefield in 1959 and assuming a position with American Cyanamid. He lived in Ridgefield for 35 years and retired as a sales executive for the company.
He also had lived in Crestwood, N.Y., and Andover, Mass.
Active in the Ridgefield Lions Club, he served as its president from 1980 to 1982. His hobbies included golf, travel and cooking.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, Mr. Lynch was an air traffic controller during World War II serving at McDill Field in Florida.
Mr. Lynch was the widower of Kathleen Reill Lynch.
Survivors include three sons, Paul J. Lynch of East Sandwich, Mass., John E. Lynch of Long Grove, Ill., and Philip J. Lynch of West Redding; a daughter, Patricia A. Fisher of Woodside, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Dulak of Yonkers, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

Alice Lynch
Alice C. Lynch, of 22 Concord Road, Danbury, died yesterday at Hancock Hall, Danbury. She was 90.
Mrs. Lynch was the widow of Eugene Lynch.
She was born in Bethel, July 5, 1907, a daughter of Morris and Kathryn (Loveley) Culhane. She grew up in Bethel and was a local resident all her life. She graduated from the former Danbury Normal School and received a master's degree from Danbury State College, which is now Western Connecticut State University.
A teacher, she taught in the Wilton school system for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Peter's Church in Danbury, the American Association of University Woman and the Danbury Senior Center.
Survivors include a son, Eugene A. Lynch of Stafford, Va., four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
