Gerard Smith
Gerard J. Smith of New Fairfield died Monday at Danbury Hospital. He was 73.

Mr. Smith was the husband of Mary Mullany Smith.

He was born in New York City, Sept. 1, 1924, a son of the late Jacob and Teresa Quinn Smith. He graduated from Regis High School in New York City and from Manhattan College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A civil engineer, he last worked for the Town of Westport, retiring as its director of public works in 1990. He lived in New Fairfield for the past 25 years and was previously of East Northport, N.Y.

A member of St. Edward Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield, he also served its building and blue ribbon committees, and he and his wife initiated its marriage preparation classes and served as its Family Life Chair Couple. He also served on the board of directors of the Bishop Curtis Homes, a former convent being converted into Danbury senior housing.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 11 children, Patricia Layton of Hearndon, Va., Robert J. Sweitzer of Lyme, N.H., Lawrence Smith of New York City, Peter Smith of Northport, N.Y., William Sweitzer of Saratoga, Calif., Margaret Varner of Louisville, Colo., Martin Smith of Moorestown, N.J., Thomas Smith of Northport, N.Y., Joseph Smith of Brookfield, Maryellen James of New Fairfield and Gerard P. Smith of Waterbury; 23 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, a niece and a nephew.

CALLING HOURS: Today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial, tomorrow, 11 a.m., St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield. Burial in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.

Dorothy Clarkson
Dorothy Frank Clarkson of Bridgeport, formerly of the Danbury and Newtown area, died Monday at St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport. She was 78.

Mrs. Clarkson was the widow of William H. Clarkson.

Born in New London, the former local resident attended the previous Danbury State Teachers College. She lived in Bridgeport for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Clarkson of Stratford, Albert Clarkson of West Haven and Lawrence Clarkson of Scranton, Pa.; three daughters, Dianne Parker of Easton, Patricia Musbek of Stratford and Mary Lou Mastronardi of Bridgeport; a companion, Pedro Mercardo of Bridgeport; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Tomorrow, 4 to 8 p.m., Louis Abriola & Son Funeral Home, 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport.

SERVICES: Friday, 9 a.m., from the funeral home to a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ambrose Church. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.'

William Andras
William Andras of Newtown died yesterday at Danbury Hospital. He was 74.

Mr. Andras was the husband of Ann (Miterko) Andras.

Born in Granville, N.Y., he was a Newtown resident for 45 years and owned the Monroe Upholstery Shop and Country Gifts and Furniture in Monroe. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served on an LST in the Pacific, including the battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Iwo Jima Survivors of Connecticut.

Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by a son, Bill Andras; two sisters, Mary West of Georgia and Ann Hrebin of North Carolina; a brother, George of Florida; and three grandchildren.

Louisa Santora
Louisa Santora of Norfolk Road, Brewster, N.Y., died yesterday at her home. She was 109.

Mrs. Santora was the widow of Saveria Santora, who predeceased her in 1929.

She was born Louisa Soccodoto in Italy, Nov. 8, 1888. She came to the United States in 1903 and was a resident of Manhattan for more than 50 years before moving to Brewster. She married in 1904.

Educated in Italy, she attended trade school to become a seamstress _ and was self-employed for many years in New York City.

Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Scottino of Brewster, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Today and tomorrow, 2 to 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. both days, Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster.

SERVICES: Friday, 10 a.m., Sacred Heart Church, Putnam Lake, N.Y., with the Rev. Ralph LaBelle officiating. Burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Brewster.

James Stoddard
James M. Stoddard of 198 Main St., Danbury, a retired construction worker, died March 13 at Danbury Hospital. He was 82.

The son of the late Louis and Della (Andrews) Stoddard, Mr. Stoddard was born in Eastwood, Maine, Oct. 22, 1915.

There are no calling hours. Cremation by Pine Grove Cemetery of Waterbury; arrangements by Cremation Services of Western Connecticut, Danbury.'

Charles Heins
Charles B. Heins of Heritage Village, Southbury, who owned and operated Turner Press Inc. in Yonkers, N.Y., died yesterday. He was 80.

Mr. Heins was the husband of Ruth Hughes Heins.

He was born in Ridgefield Park, N.J., July 14, 1917, a son of the late Charles W. and Helen Crane Heins. He in the Army's Pacific Front during World War II.

Before moving to Southbury, he lived in White Plains, N.Y., and Brewster, N.Y. He raised and bred mink in his early years, was noted for growing hybrid orchids.

Besides his wife of 51 years, he is survived by two daughters, Diane H. Lambertson of Bethel and Joyce Brennan of Brewster, and four granddaughters.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Heritage Village Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 2045, Southbury 06488.

SERVICES: Memorial service, Friday, 2 p.m., Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, Main Street, Southbury. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

William Gerry
William C. Gerry of Cornwall Bridge, died Monday while visiting at the home of his daughter, Ellen Whalen of Newtown. He was 80.

Besides his local daughter, the widower of Virginia Lassen Gerry is also survived by another daughter, a brother, two sisters, four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Chloe Connolly
Chloe Elizabeth Connolly, the 1-month-old daughter of John F. and Stephanie Farias Connolly of Danbury, died Wednesday at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Humberto Farias of Danbury and Mr. and Mrs. William Connolly of Bethel; her great-grandmothers, Diolinda Rodrigues of Portugal and Arlene O'Sullivan of Bethel; her uncles, Frank Farias of Patterson, N.Y., and William Connolly of New Milford; her aunts, Melissa Nathanson of Bethel, Sue Richter of New Milford and Megan Smith of Danbury; as well as cousins and great-aunts and uncles.

Contributions in honor of Chloe may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

SERVICES: Tomorrow, 11 a.m., St. Mary's Church, Bethel. There are no calling hours. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bethel.'

Frances H. Panzarino
Frances Hagan Panzarino, 75, formerly of Vista Avenue, Danbury, died Wednesday at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mrs. Panzarino, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was the wife of the late Frank Panzarino.

Born in Brooklyn on Sept. 20, 1922, she was a daughter of Thomas and Mary Baskerville Hagan.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph, Frank and Anthony; three daughters, Stella Eidt, Maryanne Graupe and Dolores Mezo; 10 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Blair-Mazzarella Funeral Home, 723 Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y.

SERVICES: Saturday at 9:45 a.m., a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.'

Bob Selleck
Benjamin Robert ``Bob'' Selleck of 21 Springside Ave., Danbury, died yesterday at his home. He was 81.

Mr. Selleck was the widower of Dorothea L. Ohler Selleck.

A Danbury native and lifelong resident, he was born June 12, 1916, a son of Benjamin F. and Cecilia Cronk Selleck. He was educated in Danbury.

As a young man, he worked as a mechanic for the former Charles Buick Co. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served two years during World War II. After his discharge, he opened Selleck's Texaco Service Station on Federal Road, which he operated for 20 years until 1966. He then worked as service manager at Hayes Chevrolet in New Milford and for the former Dan Ridge Chevrolet Co. in Danbury. Later, he was a route salesman for the Victor Bonadio Co. and Dubowy Brothers Co., retiring in 1981. Although officially retired, he still worked for confectionery companies and for a brief time at Colonial Ford in Danbury.

He attended St. James Episcopal Church, was a member of Loyal Order of Moose No. 1373 and a former member of Morningside Boys of Danbury.

Survivors include a son, Robert C. Selleck of New Milford.

CALLING HOURS: Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m., Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Monday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Coburn, rector of St. James Episcopal Church officiating. Burial in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Harriet Wilcox
Harriet E. Wilcox, formerly of Maple Avenue Ext., Bethel, died Wednesday at Filosa Convalescent Center, Danbury. She was 95.

Mrs. Wilcox, formerly Harriet Brill, was the widow of Frank J. Wilcox Sr.

She was born in Brookfield on June 25, 1902, a daughter of the late Egbert M. and Addie Mulkin Brill. She attended Brookfield schools, moved to Danbury in 1919 and had made her home in Bethel since 1940.

During World War II, she worked on Navy airplanes at Cance Vaughts in Stratford, and she later worked at Danbury Rug Works for 50 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bethel.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Donald Staib of Buford, Ga., Patricia Cuhsnick of Danbury and Tarry Hayden of Southbury; three siblings, Archie Brill of Sebastian, Fla., Frank Brill of Danbury and Rhoda Render of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Pauline Staib, predeceased her in 1989.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, CT Affiliate, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Robert Kenealy
Robert J. Kenealy of Grandview Drive, Ridgefield, died yesterday at Danbury Hospital. He was 67.

Mr. Kenealy was the husband of Barbara M. Butler Kenealy.

Born in Port Chester, N.Y., on March 24, 1930, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Seaman Kenealy, he was a Ridgefield resident since 1962 and was previously of Stamford. He served the Army in both the Korean War and World War II.

A letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, he retired in 1991 after serving Ridgefield for more than 25 years. He then worked as a superintendent with the Ridgefield Congregate Housing Authority, and he also maintained Rarity Pools in Ridgefield.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Ridgefield. He enjoyed camping and cooking.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon Mathews Rusgaitis of New Milford and Debra Schneider of Bethel; a brother, Richard Kenealy of Colorado; and five grandchildren.

Robert D. Baldwin
Robert D. Baldwin, 74, a retired produce manager of the A & P Food Store, died Thursday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Baldwin, of 12 Middle River Road, Danbury, was the husband of Eugena Reynolds Baldwin.

Born in Danbury, Sept. 7, 1923, he was a son of Edward and Jessie Bal dwin.

Mr. Baldwin served in World War II as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army. He fought at the Battle of Normandy and received a Purple Heart for wounds re ceived in Ger many.

A lifetime Danbury resi dent, he was a direct descen dent of Com fort Starr, who settled in Dan bury in the 1600s.

Mr. Baldwin retired from A & P in 1986 after 46 years of service.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Beverly Ehrhard of Danbury and Barbara Hope of Brookfield; a sister, Jessie Doucette of Kendall, Fla.; a stepson, Vincent Mastriani Jr. of Danbury; two step- daughters, Marcanne Michael of Danbury and Tanya Wescott of New Preston; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Park way, Meriden, CT 06450.

John Henry Rose
John Henry Rose, 59, a former resident of New Fairfield, died Wednesday at his home in Yonkers, N.Y.

Mr. Rose was the son of Astrid Wallen Rose of New Fairfield and the late Henry Rose.

He was born May 1, 1938, in Greenwich, where he had lived for 17 years before moving to New Fairfield with his family.

Mr. Rose was a 1956 graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School. He was a former employee of New York Gas and Electric in Brewster, N.Y.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Ronald of New Preston and Robert of New Fair field; a sister, Nadine of Watertown, N.Y.; a daughter, Cathy Wood of Danbury; two other daughters; a son; longtime companion Sarah Sanicola; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Soci ety, 40 North St., Danbury.

There are no calling hours.

Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.'
