Joan Cordani
Joan Cordani, 61, a resident of West Redding since 1969, died Fri day at her home. She was the wife of the late Louis F. Cordani.
Mrs. Cordani was born in New Ro chelle, N.Y., June 19, 1936, a daugh ter of Albert and Hildegard Neugebauer Oberlander. She grew up in Rye, N.Y., and attended schools there.
Mrs. Cordani was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Redding Ridge and a founding member of the General Putnam Drum Corps, based in Redding.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph P. Cordani of West Redding, and Louis F. Cordani of Danbury; two daugh ters, Joan L. Turner of Southbury and Hilda J. Cordani of Danbury; a sister, Frances Benson of Mahopac, N.Y.; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne Barlow
Wayne Barlow, 66, a New Milford community activist and founder of the town's student exchange pro gram, died Saturday at New Milford Hospital.
He was the husband of Sue Mac Millan Barlow of 1 Mountain View Terrace, New Milford.
Mr. Barlow was born on Aug. 19, 1931, in Davenport, Iowa, a son of David H. and Loretta Kiene Barlow.
Since 1990, he had worked as a salesman at Ring's End in New Mil ford. He had previously worked as a supermarket manager at First Na tional in New Milford.
Mr. Barlow moved to New Milford from Deep River in 1959, and was well-known in the town for his many civic activities. He was a founder of the New Milford High School Band Parents and a member of the town's first Charter Revision Commission.
Mr. Barlow was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Mil ford and had served as president of its parish council.
He was known locally as the ``Val entine Man'' for secretly delivering heart-shaped boxes of chocolates to children each year on Valentine's Day.
In 1983, Mr. Barlow and his wife founded New Milford's student ex change program and for the past 14 years had hosted more than a dozen students from around the world. He also interviewed New Milford High School students who wanted to study abroad.
Mr. Barlow was a longtime mem ber and former president of the New Milford Rotary Club and had received its lifetime achievement awards. He was also a member of Housatonic Council #40 Knight of Columbus and of the Danbury Elks Lodge.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Besides his wife, Mr. Barlow is survived by a son, Andrew C. Bar low of Monroe; two daughters, Nan cy E. Davis and Margaret A. Barlow, both of New Milford; three brothers, Arthur Barlow of San Bernadino, Calif., Robert Barlow of Colchester, Conn., and David Bar low of Mableton, Ga.; four sisters, Marilyn Barlow, Jean O'Connor, Pat Ashton, and Mary-Lou Haddad, all of Willimantic, Conn.; and sever al nieces and nephews.

Edward F. Keenan Jr.
Edward F. Keenan Jr., 62, a re tired vice president for Merrill Lynch & Co. and a former New Fair field resident, died Thursday at his home in Blue Bell, Pa.
He was the husband of Elinor Thulin Keenan.
Mr. Keenan was born in Jamaica, N.Y., on May 3, 1935, a son of Ed ward F. and Mabel Corcoran Keen an.
He was a 1957 graduate of the Uni versity of Notre Dame. Before his retirement in 1993, he had worked for more than 25 years for Merrill Lynch & Co., serving as a branch manager and a vice president.
Mr. Keenan also worked as an ar bitrator for the New York Stock Ex change.
He had served in the Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960 at the rank of captain.
While living in New Fairfield, Mr. Keenan had served as a director for the Candlewood Knolls Community Corp. He was a member of the Greater Philadelphia Scholastic Golf Association and of St. Helenas Church in Centre Square, Pa.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Edward F. Keenan III of Garden City, N.Y., Michael J. Keen an of Aston, Pa., Kevin P. Keenan of West Hempstead, N.Y., and Ken neth P. Keenan of Narberth, Pa.; a daughter, Maureen E. Clegg of Liv erpool, N.Y.; two sisters, Kathleen Knapp of Potomac, Md., and Joan Sullivan of Forrest Hills, N.Y.; two grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews.

Dorie Swensen
Dorie Swensen, 79, a New Fair field community activist who was named New Fairfield Woman of the Year in 1983, died Friday at her home at 38 Middleton Drive, New Fairfield.
The widow of Arthur O. Swensen, she was born in Danbury on Nov. 30, 1919, a daughter of Nicholas and Janet DeFine.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Swen sen had worked as the manager of the New Fairfield branch of the New Milford Savings Bank.
She was a volunteer for many or ganizations in Danbury and New Fairfield, in cluding Gate way's Candlewood Playhouse. She was a commu nity coordina tor and volunteer for the New Fair field Chapter of the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, and a volunteer and member of the board of the New Fairfield Free Public Library.
Mrs. Swensen was known for her work on behalf of the R.S.V.P. Pro gram of the Western Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross as well as her volunteer efforts for the Salvation Army and the United Way of Northern Fairfield County.
She had served several terms as a member of the New Fairfield Re publican Town Committee.
Mrs. Swensen also served as chair man of the town's Fourth of July Parade Committee in 1986.
She was a member of the New Fairfield Congregational Church, where she served as a hostess at church suppers. She volunteered for the Senior Citizens at St. Ed ward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield and at the New Fairfield Senior Center.
Mrs. Swensen is survived by a sis ter, Jean Fenwick of New Fairfield; a brother, Roxie DeFine of Brook field; and several nieces and neph ews.

Lytell Starr
Lytell Starr, 74, a self-employed security officer and a former mem ber of the Starlighter Band, died Friday at Danbury Hospital.
He was a former resident of Louis Street, Mr. Starr was born in Dan bury on May 15, 1923, a son of Earl and Connie Starr. He graduated from Danbury schools.
Before his retirement, he had worked for many years as a self- employed security officer.
Mr. Starr was well known as a lo cal musician and had played with the former Starlighter Band. He was also a former member of the Danbury Drum Corps.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.
He has no immediate survivors.

Garry T. Riordan
Garry T. Riordan, 46, a national account manager for the Canadian National Railroad, died Friday at his home at 2 Charcoal Ridge Road East, New Fairfield.
He was the husband of Jane Weaf er Riordan.
Mr. Riordan was born on Aug. 13, 1951, in New York, N.Y., a son of Anne Rowan Riordan of the Bronx, N.Y., and the late Timothy Riordan.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport.
Mr. Riordan had worked as a na tional account manager for the Ca nadian National Railroad.
He had been a New Fairfield resi dent for the past nine years, moving from Wayne, Pa.
Mr. Riordan was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Garry P. Rior dan and Timothy J. Riordan, both of New Fairfield; two brothers, Sean Riordan of Yonkers, N.Y., and Timothy Riordan of Union, N.J.; two sisters, Maryann Doersan of Bronxville, N.Y., and Greta Gallas of Wantaugh, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie D. Jurkiewicz
Marie D. Jurkiewicz, 82, a retired employee of the Winchester Elec tronics Co. in New Milford, died Saturday at the Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury.
She was the wife of the late Charles Jurkiewicz and had lived at 39 Sullivan Road, New Milford.
Mrs. Jurkiewicz was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on June 19, 1915, a daughter of George and Mary Young Decker.
Before her retirement, she had worked for many years at the Win chester Electronics Co. of New Mil ford.
Mrs. Jurkiewicz had been a New Milford resident for more than 30 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, New Milford.
Mrs. Jurkiewicz is survived by two daughters, Corrine Marsicano of New Milford, with whom she made her home, and Phyllis Shorey of Sloatsburg, N.Y.; a son, Charles Jaye of Grand Rapids, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchil dren; and several nieces and neph ews.

James Carlo
James Carlo, 74, a retired accountant and an active member of the Water Witch Hose Co. #7, died Sunday at the Glen Hill Convalescent Home.
Mr. Carlo lived at 163 South St., Danbury.
He was born in Danbury, Dec. 30, 1923, a son of Michael and Rose Gillotti Carlo. He was a graduate of Danbury High School and received a degree in business administration from Becker Junior College in 1949.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 243rd Field Artillery Battalion during World War II in the European, African and Middle East Theaters. He served under Gen. George Patton.
During his career as an accountant, he worked for many years at the former Fabric Hose Co. of Sandy Hook. He later worked at the Barden Corp. until he retired in 1984.
Mr. Carlo was an active member of the Water Witch Hose Co. #7 where he had served as a lieutenant and had been named a life member.
His survivors include three brothers, Michael and Fred Carlo, both of Danbury, and Francis Carlo of Sarasota, Fla.; three sisters, Josephine Ferrauialo and Nancy J. Bailey, both of Danbury, and Ann Marie Carlo of Bristol, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

Josef Tarr
Josef Tarr, 74, a machine operator at the Eagle Pencil Company in Danbury for more than 20 years, died Monday in Danbury.
Mr. Tarr, of 79 Park Ave., Danbury, was the husband of the late Elsie Prager Tarr.
He was born in Hungary on Feb. 11, 1924. He came to the United States in the 1950s and made his home in Danbury.
Mr. Tarr was a member of the Hungarian Club in Danbury.
He is survived by two nephews, Bruce Prager of New Jersey and Frank Prager of Florida.

Ellamae Wirag
Ellamae Wirag, 73, a retired waitress, died Monday at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Wirag, of 6 Lois St., Danbury, was the wife of Robert C. Wirag.
She was born in Danbury, May 20, 1924, a daughter of Stephen and Ella Cramer Peeler.
A lifelong Danbury resident, she was a 1942 graduate of Danbury High School.
Mrs. Wirag had been employed for more than 30 years at the King Neptune Restaurant in Ridgefield. She later worked at the Toby Jug Restaurant in Danbury.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Wirag is survived by two daughters, Cathy A. Matusz of Durham, Conn., and Lisa J. Casanova of New Milford; three sisters, Katherine Lownds, Margaret Jesionowski and Donna Peeler, all of Danbury; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
