A memorial service for Hazel Morrison will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bethel Congregational Church, Bethel.

Mrs. Morrison of San Jose, Calif., and formerly of Bethel, died Feb. 2 in San Jose at the age of 107.

Mary Clinton
Mary M. Clinton of Redding Ridge died of pulmonary complications Wednesday at Danbury Hospital. She was 82.

Mrs. Clinton was the wife of Edwin T. Clinton.

She was born in Worcester, Mass., Nov. 14, 1915, a daughter of the late James Francis and Eliza Annie Moon Duff. She lived in Redding for more than 40 years and retired from the U.S. Post Office _ she worked at Redding Ridge and Redding Center _ after 20 years. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild; a member and past president of the Redding Garden Club; a member of the Federated Garden Club of Connecticut; a board member of the American Gesneriad and Gloxinia Society; and a master flower show judge.

Besides her husband of 60 years, she is survived by three daughters, Winona Barker of Adelphi, Md., Dianne Barker of Silver Spring, Md., and Karen Andersen of West Haven; a sister, Frances Lovejoy of Warwick, R.I.; five grandchildren; and two nieces.

Contributions in her memory may be made to either the Pulmonary Department Development Fund, care of Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury 06810 or to Christ Church Parish Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 54, Redding Ridge 06876.

Elmira Smith
Elmira Smith of Lake Luzerne, N.Y., mother of Kenneth Webb of New Milford, died Monday at Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, N.Y. She was 87.

Besides her local son, she is survived by two daughters, a brother, 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Webb, in 1930, and her second, Frank Smith, in 1976.

Services were in New York. Arrangements by Clark Associates Funeral Home of Katonah, N.Y.

Irene R. Tomanio
Services for Irene R. Tomanio are tomorrow at 10 a.m. at The Tomlinson Homestead, Danbury, with burial in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Mrs. Tomanio, born June 28, 1906, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital at the age of 91. She lived in Danbury most of her life and retired from The Barden Corp. after many years.

Calling hours are tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.'

Annette Beebe
Annette B. Beebe of New Fairfield died Tuesday at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. She was 75.

Mrs. Beebe was the widow of Clifford E. Beebe.

She was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine, the daughter of the late Alfred and Eva Desjardin Dennis. She lived in Hartford and West Hartford before moving to New Fairfield. She worked for 15 years with the Wilcox Dental Lab in Wethersfield and was a former member of the Church of St. Brigid in West Hartford.

Survivors include two children, Dennis C. Beebe of Middletown and Anne E. Daly of New Fairfield; four brothers, Rosario, Norman and Maurice Dennis, all of Lewiston, Maine, and Frank Dennis of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Loretta Delisle and Pauline Therrien, both of Lewiston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, S.R. Beebe.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford 06492.

CALLING HOURS: Today, 5 to 8 p.m., Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., W. Hartford.

Anthony Troccolo
Anthony F. Troccolo of 40 Williams St., Danbury, a lifetime Danbury resident and barber, died Monday at his home. He was 82.

Mr. Troccolo was the widower of Mary Zlotnikoff Troccolo.

He was born in Danbury, July 26, 1915, a son of the late Benjamin and Angeline Perry Troccolo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include several cousins.

SERVICES: Graveside at 1 p.m. today at St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury. No calling hours. Arrangements by Green Funeral Home of Danbury.

E. Paul Martin, of New Milford
E. Paul Martin, 103, a former three-term New Milford First Selectman and the last surviving New Milford veteran of World War I, died Saturday at his South Main Street home.

Mr. Martin's life spanned the invention of electricity to man's landing on the moon. He was the last person alive to remember The Great New Milford Fire of May 5, 1902, when the entire downtown of New Milford was destroyed.

At the time of his death, Mr. Martin was New Milford's oldest native son. He was honored on the occasion of his 100th birthday with a celebration at the VFW Hall.

He was born in the Grove Street section of New Milford on June 29, 1894, a son of Edward P. and Margaret Flynn Martin.

Mr. Martin was predeceased by his first wife, Louise Heinan Martin, who died in 1951, and his second wife, Alice Ferriss Martin, who died in 1982.

A veteran of World War I, he served with the 35th Engineers in France.

Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Martin entered the plumbing and pipe fitting trade at an early age. He and his late brother, William, established Martin Brothers Plumbing and Heating in Washington, Conn., in 1921. They moved the business to New Milford in 1926 and continued operation until 1954.

Mr. Martin served three terms as first selectman from 1955 to 1961. During his years in office, he established the New Milford Planning Commission in 1955 and played a major role in bringing the Kimberly-Clark Corp. to New Milford in 1958. He also established the first Town Improvement Committee.

He was tax collector for the New Milford Fire Association from 1952 to 1957 and also served as assessor for the association for many years.

One of the first to speak for the preservation of the old New Milford Railroad Station, he published ``The Little Old Railroad Station'' in 1987. This small book covered the history of the railroad station. He was also active in restoring rail service to New Milford and was a member of the Rail Service Restoration Society.

Mr. Martin was a longtime member of the Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust, the New Milford Historical Society, and the New Milford Trust for Historic Preservation. He served as a member of the 250th Anniversary Celebration of New Milford in 1957.

A talented tinsmith, he donated his collection of tinware depicting scenes of New Milford to the Historical Society in 1995.

He was a former trustee of the Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown.

A lifetime member of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford, he was the oldest member of the Housatonic Council 40 Knights of Columbus, a group he joined when he was 18 years old.

Mr. Martin had been involved for many years with the Water Witch Hose Company No. 2.

Active in veterans' affairs, he was a life member of the Commander Ezra Woods Post 31 American Legion of New Milford and the Andrew B. Mygatt Post 1672 Veterans of Foreign Wars of New Milford.

His survivors include two sons, Paul E. Martin of New Milford and William F. Martin of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Sarah M. Cuddy of Bridgewater; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph J. Alves; retired carpenter
Joseph J. Alves, 89, a professionally trained artist and a retired carpenter, died Sunday at the Hancock Hall Health Care Center in Danbury.

A resident of Danbury since 1950, Mr. Alves was the husband of Mary Sullivan Alves.

He was born in Tiverton, R.I., Sept. 19, 1908, a son of Manuel and Joaquina Carreiro Alves.

Prior to his 1970 retirement, Mr. Alves was employed as a carpenter for the Joe Nunes Co.

Trained as an artist, Mr. Alves designed the art work for his family monument.

His survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Marie Alves of Salisbury, N.C., and Margaret Walsh of Parkesberg, Pa.; a son, Joseph J. Alves Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Florence Gilmore of Danbury; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North St., Danbury 06810.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

John Jackson Riggs
John Jackson Riggs, 66, a retired 35-year employee of The News-Times, died Saturday at his home.

Mr. Riggs, of 3 Advocate Place, Danbury, was the husband of Fay Malleolo Riggs.

He was born in Dellplains, Ark., Nov. 24, 1931, a son of Edmond and Bessie Riggs.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Before his retirement, Mr. Riggs was employed in the composing room at The News-Times.

He was a member of the Connecticut Communication Workers of America AFL-CIO Union.

Besides his wife, Mr. Riggs is survived by two sons, Kenneth J. Riggs of South Carolina, and John Jay Riggs of Danbury; four daughters, Donna Coelho of Danbury, Daryl Speyer of Ohio, Doreen Lambertson of Texas, and Diane Marucci of Danbury; a brother, Robert Riggs of Missouri; a sister, Barbara Riggs, also of Missouri; a grandson; four granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

William Cruse
William Cruse, 89, active in civic affairs and former Danbury councilman, died Sunday at the Candlewood Valley Care Center in New Milford.

A resident of New Milford, Mr. Cruse was the husband of the late Zelma Jacqueline Darden Cruse.

He was born in Danbury, Oct. 12, 1908, a son of William and Abigal Demonde Cruse. He was a graduate of Danbury High School and attended Bay Path College in Long Meadow, Mass.

Active in sports, he played in the Danbury Industrial League.

Before his 1962 retirement, Mr. Cruse was employed by the Danbury and Bethel Gas Company, the Connecticut Light and Power Company and NorthEast Utilities.

In Danbury, he was elected councilman in the Sixth District in 1965, was past chairman of the Danbury Council of Churches, was treasurer and past chairman of the advisory board of the Salvation Army, served as co-chairman of the Business Division of the Community Chest, and was a member of the board of managers of the Danbury War Memorial.

Mr. Cruse was a deacon at New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury and was an honorary deacon at the 1st Baptist Church of New Milford where he was presently a member and sang in the church choir.

He is survived by a stepson, Allen L. Williams of New Milford; a stepdaughter, Joyce J. Williams of Danbury; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Hull Home, 60 Division St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 12 noon at the Hull Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Britt, of the 1st Baptist Church of New Milford, and the Rev. Aaron Samuels, of the New Hope Baptist Church of Danbury, officiating. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.'
