Paul J. Stork

Paul J. Stork died Aug. 20, 1999, at the Danbury Hospital at the age of 73. He was the husband of Patricia Olmstead Arconti Stork and lived at 1 E. Hayestown Road, No. 160, Barclay Commons, in Danbury.

Mr. Stork was born in the Bronx, N.Y., March 7, 1926, son of the late Frederick and Theresa Andrioli Stork. He graduated from Pace University with his degree in accounting and was last employed with the Health and Hospital Corporation of New York City as assistant comptroller at Belview Hospital. He retired in 1984.

Mr. Stork served in the Army in World War II with the Occupied Forces in Germany. He was a member of St. Gregory Church, its choir and the Senior Citizen Group, serving as past president. He was a eucharistic minister, a volunteer for the St. James Daily Bread Program, past president of the local AARP chapter and a member of the volunteer board of N.O.R.D.

Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Richard Kilcullen of Danbury; and his beloved grandchildren Patrick and Maura Kilcullen, both of Danbury. He was predeceased by his first wife Florence in 1989. He also is survived by his loving step-children and step-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at St. Gregory the Great Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Contributions may made to St. Gregory's Choir or to St. Gregory Living Trust, Great Plain Road, Danbury, CT 06811.

Donald R. Loftus

Donald R. Loftus, 61, of 35 Spireview Road, Ridgefield, formerly of Norwalk, died Friday, August 20th, peacefully at home after a long illness. He was the husband of E. Jeanne (Waterbury) Loftus.

He was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Norwalk, a son of Beatrice (Knapp) Loftus of Punta Gorda, FL, and the late Sidney Loftus. He moved to Ridgefield in 1965.

Mr. Loftus was the original owner of Ridgefield Brake & Alignment. He sold that in 1973 and opened Ridgefield Auto Parts, which he managed until his retirement due to illness in 1986.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Susan Loftus of Brookfield; his daughter, Laurie A. Loftus of Danbury; a grandson, Anthony "T.J." DiDomenico Jr. of Danbury; two brothers, Robert of Chandler, AZ, and Sidney of Norwalk; four sisters, Shirley Merritt of Punta Gorda, FL, Lois Howell of Mexico and Jean Novicky and Diane Kolok, both of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Ridgefield, with the Rev. Victoria Miller, associate rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.

Contributions in Mr. Loftus' memory may be made to the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, 6 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Ridgefield, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, CT 06877.

Arthur O. Kuebler

Arthur O. Kuebler of Aqua Vista, Danbury, died Saturday at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Mills Kuebler.

Mr. Kuebler was born in Yonkers, N.Y. June 11, 1914, a son of the late Otto and Theresa King Kuebler. He enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II as a Seabee in the 31st Construction Battalion and was decorated for his service at Iwo Jima. He lived most of his married life in Yonkers, N.Y., and he and his family were summer residents of Candlewood Lake since 1950, moving to Danbury full time in 1988. He was an Oil Plant Manager for Suburban Fuel Oil in Mt.Vernon N.Y. for 45 years. He was a member of the Pelham Masonic Lodge in the Bronx for over 53 years, and while living in the Aqua Vista community in Danbury, he served in many capacities in the Aqua Vista Association. Mr. Kuebler was a friend to all in the community and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Kuebler is survived by one son, A. Christian Kuebler of Danbury; two daughters, Diane L. Kuebler of Brookline MA and Linda K. Spak of Washington, CT, and son-in-law Sam Spak, as well as two grandchildren, Elizabeth Spak and Jonathon Spak.

In lieu of flowers, do a kind deed for a neighbor or make a donation to a charity of your choice.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Tuesday afternoon at 4:00. There are no calling hours.

William H. Hopper

William H. Hopper, 64, of 4 High Valley Rd., Ridgefield, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday.

Mr. Hopper was born in Indianapolis, IN on July 7, 1935, a son of the late James Elmer and Minnie Marie Manker Hopper. He received his undergraduate degree from John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis and his masters in Art from Florida State University.

Mr. Hopper taught Art at the John Herron Art Institute for 16 years, then moving to New York City. While in New York, he opened an art studio which he operated for over 20 years, moving to Ridgefield in 1989.

Mr. Hopper exhibited at the Betty Parkinson Gallery in New York City and his work was seen on the television series "The Cosby Show."

Mr. Hopper worked predominantly with acrylic paint and also created handmade decorative accessories such as chandeliers and other art objects. He was active in the cancer society and nature conservancy.

Survivors include his longtime companion: Germaine Hellinger of Ridgefield and one sister: Irma P. Pfeifer of Carlsbad, NM.

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield with the Rev. Randy Day, Pastor of the Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church of Ridgefield officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends will be received at the funeral home at the time of the service.

Contributions in Mr. Hopper's memory may be made to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, CT 06877.

Louis Eriquez

Louis Eriquez died at the Danbury Hospital on August 21, 1999 at the age of 80. He was the husband of the late Mary Mahon Eriquez and lived at 8 Somers St., Danbury.

Mr. Eriquez was born in Danbury March 2, 1919, the son of the late Frank and Louise Deangelis Eriquez. He received his education in Danbury and graduated from Danbury High School. He was a World War II army veteran. In his early years he worked as a Hatter with the Newman and Endler Hat Co. in Danbury and then was employed for the city of Danbury in the Water and Sewer Dept. He retired at the age of 62.

He is survived by his sons: Louis A. of Georgia, Daniel J. and Frederick J., both of Danbury. Two grandchildren: Michael and David Eriquez of Georgia. Four sisters: Rena Prandini of Hartford, Ida Eriquez, Doloris Tierney and Elvira Chiarella, all of Danbury. Two brothers: Donald and Frank, both of Danbury, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lucille C. Gismondi

Lucille C. Gismondi, age 80, wife of Ernest I. Gismondi of 95 Currituck Road, Newtown, died August 21, 1999 in the Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Gismondi was born in Pecksville, PA June 14, 1919 a daughter of the late Modesty and Anne (Lepak) Curcura. A 40 year resident of Newtown, Mrs. Gismondi was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church. She was Secretary of the Lands End Cemetery Association in Newtown and was a volunteer at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Donald B. Gismondi of Trumbull, 2 daughters, Elaine Gismondi Serrato of San Pedro, CA and Diane Butler of Idaho Falls, Idaho, a sister Dorothy Kurtz of Pennsylvania and 4 grandchildren, and predeceased by a son Ronald Gismondi.

A Private Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at the Lands End Cemetery. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Regional Hospice of Western CT, 30 West St., Danbury CT 06810.

Madeline Crotty Beard

Madeline Crotty Beard, 91, of Largo, Florida, died on Aug. 21. She was born in Danbury, Sept. 6, 1907, the daughter of Johanna Roche Crotty and John Crotty of Mountainville Ave.

She was educated in Danbury schools and graduated from the Danbury State Normal School in 1927. She was an elementary school teacher in Brooklyn, NY, and upon her retirement, she maintained a home at Siboney Terrace on Lake Candlewood.

She was pre-deceased by two husbands, Alfred Fisher and Jason Bear. She also was pre-deceased by four sisters, Josephine Genest, Marie Crotty, Mildred Galvin and Catherine Stevens and three brothers, John Crotty, Timothy Crotty and Edward "Copper" Crotty, the longtime Danbury High School athletic director and football coach who won many state championships and for whom Crotty Stadium is named.

She is survived by a niece, Catherine Stevens Zdzieba of Shelton, CT; nephews Thomas E. Stevens of Old Saybrook, CT, Dr. William Stevens of West Palm Beach, FL, Edward Crotty of Cincinnati, OH, and Timothy Crotty of Sutter Creek, CA; a sister-in-law, Margaret Crotty of Southbury, CT; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral and burial services will be held Aug. 24 in Largo, FL., where she had resided in recent years. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wellwood Grace Funeral Home, Hudson. FL. Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Augusto R. Petriccone

Augusto R. Petriccone died unexpectedly Aug. 22, 1999 at the Danbury Hospital. He was 54, the husband of Barbara Shugg Petriccone and lived at 8 Lillinonah Drive, Brookfield.

Mr. Petriccone was born in Havana, Cuba Feb. 12, 1945, the son of Aymee Melendez Petriccone and the late Augusto Petriccone. He graduated and received his MBA from Pace University.

An army veteran on the Vietnam War, he received the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was a data Processing Manager for M.B.T. Inc. in Norwalk. He and his wife settled in Brookfield 23 years ago and were members of St. Joseph Church. He was also soccer coach for the Brookfield Soccer Club and served on its Board of Directors.

Mr. Petriccone enjoyed all water sports and was a member of the International Jet SkiBoard Assoc. Also an avid Down Hill skier, and a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.

Beside his mother of White Plains and his wife, he is survived by his son Gregory A. and daughter Danielle L. Petriccone and his grandson Christopher A. Petriccone, all of Brookfield, his sister Lilia Palombo of White Plains, NY and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Church, Rt. 25 and 133 in Brookfield on Thursday at 10 a.m. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT, or Hanahoe Clinic, Main Street, Danbury, 06810 in his memory.

John McLaughlin

John Edward "Jack" McLaughlin, Sr., of Sebastian, Fla., died August 19, 1999 at his residence after a prolonged illness.

He was born Dec. 7, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pa. and moved to Sebastian 7 years ago from Newtown, Conn.

Mr. McLaughlin graduated from LaSalle High School in Philadelphia, Pa. and from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences. He was employed by the Stauffer Chemical Co. in Westport, Conn. as a Regional Sales Manager until his retirement. He was a former Director of the Chemical Club of New England. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the navy.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Peggy McLaughlin of Sebastian, son John "Jack" McLaughlin, Jr. of East Greenwich, RI; 2 daughters, Annette Ilansen of Gwynedd Valley, Pa., Peggy Ann Burtaccio of Bethel, Conn., 2 sisters, Anne Kirby of Dalton, Ga., Catherine Carroll of Philadelphia; and 8 grandchildren

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Ambler, Pa., with a Memorial Mass to be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday October 2, 1999.

Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, Pa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, Calif. 91301-5104 in memory of Mr. McLaughlin.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, Fla.
