John J. Dzamko
John J. Dzamko, 70, the owner and operator of Dzamko's Repair and Towing Services, died Saturday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Dzamko, of 7 Knollcrest Drive, Brookfield, was the husband of Patricia M. Durgy Dzamko. Mr. Dzamko had lived in Bethel before moving to Brookfield 32 years ago.

He was born in Danbury on Aug. 12, 1927, a son of Joseph and Mary H. Koske Dzamko. He attended Danbury schools, including the former Danbury Trade School, which is now Henry Abbott Regional Technical High School.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Polana. He was awarded an Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal.

Mr. Dzamko had owned Dzamko's Repair and Towing Services for 29 years and was active with the company until the time of his death.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #149. He was also a member of the Connecticut Towing and Recovery Association and was a former coach for Bethel Little League Baseball.

Mr. Dzamko was very interested in genealogy.

Besides his wife, his survivors include four sons, John A. Dzamko of New Fairfield, Michael F. Dzamko of Roxbury, Thomas J. Dzamko of Bethel, and Robert E. Dzamko of Brookfield; a brother, Joseph M. Dzamko of Brookfield; two sisters, Dorothy J. Linley of Fairfield, Conn., and Maryann Hayes of LaBelle, Fla.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in Mr. Dzamko's memory may be made to a veterans organization of one's choice.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service with military honors will take place at a date to be announced by the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Eva T. Porter
Eva T. Porter, 81, a Danbury resident since 1941, died Sunday at Mediplex of Danbury.

Mrs. Porter lived at 3 Ford Ave., Danbury.

She was born in Stone Ridge, N.Y., on Sept. 16, 1916, a daughter of Ira and Mary Auchmoody Turner. She was educated in Stone Ridge.

Before her 1975 retirement, Mrs. Porter had been employed for 25 years at the former Martha's Luncheonette and then for 15 years at Capitol Machine.

She was a member of the Advent Christian Church. She was a past president of the Mid-Fairfield Council of Campfire Girls. Mrs. Porter was also past president of American Legion Post #100 in Bethel. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center of Danbury.

Her survivors include three daughters, Harriet Maietta and Elizabeth Ballard, both of Danbury, and Joan Trocolla of New Fairfield; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Granville Boller.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be conducted at a date to be announced by the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. '

Marguerite Markham
Marguerite C. Markham, 77, a retired health care aide for the Southbury Training School, died Monday at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Conn.

Mrs. Markham was the wife of the late Robert E. Markham.

A resident of Oxford, Conn., for 50 years, she previously lived in Seymour, Conn., and Brooksville, Fla.

She was born in New Milford on April 14, 1921, a daughter of Clifford and Cornelia Romaine Richmond.

She was a talented quilt maker and was a member of the Oxford and Seymour Senior Centers.

Her survivors include a son, Robert H. Markham of Seymour; three daughters, Marguerite M. Markham of Seymour, Judy A. Roswell of Canterbury, Conn., and Susan J. Amoro of New Britain, Conn.; 11 brothers; five sisters; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut, Inc., 920 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.

SERVICES: Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Carpino Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury.

Aurora DeCicco
Aurora DeCicco of Heritage Village, Southbury, died Monday at Mediplex of Southbury. She was 87.

The widow of Paul DeCicco, she was born in New York City, Sept. 4, 1910, a daughter of Adam and Julia Ciccarone. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle. Formerly of Scarsdale, N.Y., she lived in Southbury for more than 20 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Hand of Wilton and Virginia Minicucci of Briar Cliff, N.Y.; two sisters, Clara D'Onofrio of Jacksonville, Fla., and Julia Short of Elk Grove, Ill.; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Aurora DeCicco Scholarship Fund, Academy of Mt. St. Ursula Development Office, 330 Bedford Park Boulevard, Bronx, N.Y. 10458.

Kathleen Hermann
Kathleen W. Hermann of Milford, sister of George W. Hermann of New Milford, died Tuesday at Milford Hospital. She was 53.

Besides her local brother, she is survived by five sisters.

Eleanor Morrell
Eleanor Ryan Morrell of Danbury died yesterday at Danbury Hospital. She was 65.

Mrs. Morell was the wife of Douglas A. Morrell Sr. and lived at 19 Birch St.

She was born in Greenwich, Oct. 26, 1932, a daughter of Chieppe and Catherine Ryan. She was a 1950 graduate of Greenwich High School.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five sons, Michael of Sacco, Maine, Thomas, Douglas Jr. and Christopher, all of Danbury, and Mark of New Fairfield; three daughters, Patricia Parry and Margaret Youngberg, both of Sharon, and Amy Close of Danbury; a brother, Frank Ryan of Rowayton; two sisters, Patricia Guckien of Norwalk and Ann Devitt of Greenwich; and 14 grandchildren.

SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial, tomorrow, 10 a.m., St. Gregory the Great Church, Great Plain Road, Danbury. Cremation at the family's convenience. No calling hours. Arrangements by Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury.'

Carl Pettersch

Carl A. Pettersch, retired professor and dean at what is now Western Connecticut State University, died March 10 in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was 91.

Dr. Pettersch came to the then Danbury Teachers College in 1947 and rose two years later to head of the social science department. He had earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Notre Dame, a master's from Wayne State University, and a doctorate from Columbia University.

In 1955 he was selected to direct the new program of graduate studies for elementary school teachers, and the following year he became the director of the intensive program for college graduates, the extension program and the summer school. In the community he was chairman of the Advisory Council of Schools and Cultural Organization of RESCUE, the Regional Educational Services Concept Through Unified Effort, and president of the faculty association of the four state teachers colleges.

After retirement from Western he returned to the Midwest and started in 1975 the Emeritus College for senior citizens at Aquinas College. Currently, there are 1,000 students enrolled.

His first wife, Clarissa, died in the late 1980s. He is survived by his second wife, Louisa; two stepsons; eight step-grandchildren; and 12 step- great-grandchildren.

The funeral and burial were in Grand Rapids.

Thure Pearson
Thure A. Pearson of Georgetown died Sunday at the Laurelwood Care Center in Ridgefield. He was 92.

Mr. Pearson was the widower of Anna Olson Pearson.

He was born in Blekinge, Sweden, April 29, 1906, a son of Per and Elsa Jonsson Andersson. He moved to this country in 1928. Before retiring in 1974, he worked for nearly 50 years at the Gilbert & Bennett Manufacturing Co., in Georgetown, and was a Georgetown resident for 67 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Margit Moore of West Redding and Sonja Peters of Danbury; a son, Lars Allen Pearson of Pawlett, Vt.; three sisters, Sonja Jonsson, Hannah Gustaffson and Ruth Gustaffson, all of Sweden; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Sesto of Trumbull.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the United Covenant Church, 68 Westport Road, Wilton 06897.

SERVICES: Memorial service, Saturday, 11 a.m., United Covenant Church, Wilton. The Rev. Charles Duey, interim pastor, will officiate. Burial is private and there are no calling hours. Arrangements by Bouton Funeral Home of Georgetown.

Jane MacArthur
Jane Parker MacArthur of Heritage Village, Southbury, died Sunday at her home. She was 80.

Mrs. MacArthur was the widow of Harvey H. MacArthur.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., Aug. 25, 1917, a daughter of George Stanley and Carolyn Wentworth Parker. An author of children's books, she also operated a book store in Illinois.

Survivors include two sons, William of Bridgewater and Stephen of Brooksville, Maine; a daughter, Linda MacArthur of Cambridge, Mass.; and six grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Children's Section of the Brooksville Free Public Library, Brooksville, Maine 04617. A memorial service will be held at a later time at the family's home in Maine. Arrangements by the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere.'

Kathryn Johnson
Kathryn Johnson of Brewster, N.Y., died Monday at Northern Westchester Hospital, Mt. Kisco, N.Y. She was 74.

Mrs. Johnson was the wife of William H. Johnson.

She was born in New York City, Oct. 18, 1923, a daughter of Irving and Henrietta Sniffen Totten. She attended schools in Somers, N.Y. She was a homemaker and a member of the Southeast Senior Citizens in Brewster. Before moving to Brewster 20 years ago, she lived in Carmel, N.Y., for 14 years.

Besides her husband of 53 years, she is survived by two sons, William of Dover Plains, N.Y., and Calvin of New Port Ritchie, Fla.; two daughters, Kay Ann Barrett of Brewster and Kimberly Bailey of Carmel; three sisters, Jane Valentino of Somers, Joan Martorano of Brewster and Marion Totte of Pawling, N.Y.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 210, Carmel, N.Y. 10512.

Harriet Akridge
Harriet Akridge of Brookside Apartments, Danbury, died Monday at her home. She was 78.

Mrs. Akridge was the widow of Nathaniel W. Akridge.

She was born in Brookfield, April 5, 1920, a daughter of Charles and Mary Brill Lake, and was a life-long resident of the area. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brookfield and recently attended St. James' Episcopal Church, Danbury.

She worked for more than 45 years at Risdon Corp., and retired as a product inspector.

Survivors include a son, Dennis C. Akridge, a daughter, Diane Saunders, and a brother, Richard E. Lake, all of Danbury; a sister, Cathy Millard of Newtown; her step-brother, Daniel Woodin Jr. of Danbury; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, N. Kenneth Akridge, in 1996, and her step-father, Daniel Woodin.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m., Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Thursday, 2:30 p.m., St. James' Episcopal Church, 25 West St., Danbury. The Rev. Ann S. Coburn will officiate. Burial in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.'

Margaret Zanzal
Margaret A. Zanzal of Holley Street Ext., Danbury, died Monday at Danbury Hospital. She was 80.

Mrs. Zanzal was the wife of Andrew Zanzal.

She was born in Lewiston, Maine, Nov. 25, 1917, a daughter of Fred M. and Margaret Dorsey Murray. She moved to Lawrence, Mass., with her family and then to New Milford, where she attended local schools, graduating from New Milford High School.

A resident of Danbury for more than 50 years, she retired from Barden Corp., was active at the Danbury Senior Center, was a member of the center's Cellmates skiffle band and was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and its choir.

Besides her husband of 51 years, she is survived by two daughters, Peggy Corbett of New Fairfield and Susan Chase of Kensington; a son, John Zanzal of Danbury; five grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Danbury Senior Center, 80 Main St., Danbury 06810.

Jean Novak
Jean S. Novak, formerly of Callicoon, N.Y., died Monday at Ashlar of Newtown. She was 85.

Mrs. Novak was the wife of Albert Novak Jr.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., Oct. 29, 1912, a daughter of Aldolph and Jean Hunter Goldner. Before moving to Newtown in 1996, she lived in Callicoon for 23 years and also was previously of Teaneck and Bergenfield, N.J. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Callicoon and St. Tammany chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

Besides her husband of 62 years, she is survived by a son, Albert J. Novak of Pueblo, Colo.; a daughter, Barbara J. Connerty of Southbury; a brother, Arthur G. Goldner of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice or St. James Episcopal Church, Callicoon.
