Hans G. Wagner
Hans G. Wagner, 69, a resident of the Danbury area since 1959, died Monday at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Mr. Wagner, of 6 Valerie Lane, Danbury, was the husband of Charlotte Neutert Wagner.

He was born in Ansbach, Germany, April 7, 1928, a son of Fritz and Rosa Gall Warner. He attended schools in Germany.

Mr. Wagner came to the United States in 1957. He moved to Bethel in 1959 and to Danbury in 1970.

Before his retirement in 1990, Mr. Wagner had been employed by Eagle Pencil in Danbury for 11 years and Medallic Arts in Danbury for 17 years.

He was a member of the Order of Masons, Eureka Lodge #83 in Bethel. He had been a member of the Arian Singing Society for 30 years. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Bethel.

Besides his wife, Mr. Wagner is survived by a daughter, Hannelore Moreno of Newtown; and a grandchild.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Nelson Gelfman Dialysis Unit, c/o the Dialysis Fund, Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury 06810, or to a charity of one's choice.

CALLING HOURS: Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel. Members of Eureka Lodge #83 are asked to meet at the funeral home for a Masonic Service.

SERVICES: Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Bethel Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert T. Johnson, of the United Methodist Church of Bethel, officiating.

Catherine Corbett
Catherine Elizabeth Casey Corbett, 84, a retired home health worker and a former Bethel resident, died March 15 in Quincy, Fla.

Mrs. Corbett who had lived on McNeil Road in Bethel before moving to Quincy, was the wife of the late William V. Corbett.

She was born in Bridgeport on Aug. 9, 1912, a daughter of David and Margaret O'Brien Casey.

At the time of her retirement, Mrs. Corbett had been employed by the Nurse's Registry.

She was a member of St. Mary Church and was a past member of the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Her survivors include a son, William Corbett of Loveland, Colo.; two daughters, Margaret ``Peggy'' Harris of Havana, Fla., and Kathleen Corbett of Cambridge, Mass.; a brother, Thomas Casey of Bridgeport; and several grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 1815 North Lynn St., Arlington, Va. 22209 or to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury 06810.

SERVICES: Saturday at 10 a.m., a memorial Mass at St. Mary Church, Bethel.

Cremation took place at the convenience of the family.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury is in charge of local arrangements.

Anthony Baiad Sr.
Anthony Baiad Sr., 83, a longtime resident of the Danbury area, died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Baiad, formerly of Wooster Manor, Danbury, was the husband of the late Helen Davis Baiad.

He was born in Danbury on Nov. 21, 1913, he was a son of Herbert and Mary Aboud Baiad. He moved to Lebanon as a child and was educated there. He returned to the United States as a young man and had been a resident of the area since then.

For many years, Mr. Baiad was employed by the Contract Plating Co. in Stratford. Following his retirement in the mid-1970s, he worked as a security guard at Rapid Electric Co. in Brookfield.

Mr. Baiad lived in Bethel for many years before moving to Danbury in the early 1970s. While living in Bethel, he served on the Board of Tax Review, was a constable, and was active in Democratic politics.

He is survived by three sons, Anthony Baiad Jr. of Newtown, Ronald Baiad of Brookfield, and Michael Baiad of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara Baiad and Carol Ybarra, both of Santa Barbara, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Ann's Melkite Church Building Fund, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury 06811.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Trisagion Prayers will be conducted at 8 p.m.

SERVICES: Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Melkite Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bethel.

Rosa Vitanza
Rosa Vitanza, 79, of 4 Delno Drive, Danbury, died Monday at her home.

She was the wife of the late Anthony Vitanza.

She was born in Sicily on June 25, 1917, a daughter of John and Maria Frisone.

Mrs. Vitanza was employed by Greenwich Furs before moving to Danbury 3 years ago.

Her survivors include a daughter, Domenica ``Dee'' Marino of Danbury; a sister and two brothers in Sicily; and two grandchildren.

Contributions in Mrs. Vitanza's memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury 06810.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church. Entombment will take place in St. Peter Cemetery.

John Stewart Goff
John Stewart Goff, 70, a retired attorney from Ridgefield, died Sunday while on vacation in Arizona.

Mr. Goff previously lived in New Canaan and Stamford.

He was born in New York, N.Y., on June 18, 1926, a son of Harold Wheeler and Patricia Stewart Goff.

He enrolled in the Navy's V-12 officer training program while attending Middlebury College. He received his bachelor's degree from Brown University in 1948 and his law degree from Boston University in 1951.

After law school, he was an attorney at Coleman, Jameson and Lamey in Billings, Mont. He later worked as a negotiator for American International Oil Corp. in Manhattan. He was then employed as as manager of acquisitions for Mobil Oil, also in Manhattan, where he was responsible for world-wide oil development contracts. He retired in 1989.

Mr. Goff was an avid reader, golfer and raconteur. During his retirement, he was an active volunteer at the New Canaan Library and Waccabuc Country Club.

His survivors include a son, Craig Stewart Goff of Chatsworth, Calif.; two daughters, Andrea Marie Goff of Bigfork, Mont., and Leslie Anne Goff of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Anne Alexander of Oyster Bay, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the New Canaan Library, New Canaan, Conn. 06840, or to the Metropolitan Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Fund, c/o Waccabuc Country Club, Meade Street, Waccabuc, N.Y. 10597.

There are no calling hours.

SERVICES: Friday at 2 p.m. at the Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, Ridgefield. Private burial will take place on Saturday in Laurel Hollow, Long Island, N.Y.

The Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield is in charge of arrangements.

Kerry Moore Ryberg
Kerry Moore Ryberg, 27, of 133 Route 37 South, Sherman, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in New York City on Nov. 24, 1969, a son of Walter Ryberg and the late Patrica Scensny Ryberg.

A graduate of New Milford High School, he received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Western Connecticut State University.

Mr. Ryberg was employed by the Caldor department store in Brookfield.

He is survived by his brother, Kenneth M. Ryberg of Sherman.

Graveside services at Coburn Cemetery in Sherman will take place at the convenience of the family.

The Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford is in charge of arrangements.

Winston L. Jackson
Winston L. Jackson, 77, of Danbury, died Wednesday at his home.

He was the husband of Mildred Mansueto Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was born in Ragley, La., June 24, 1919, a son of John and Irma Smith Jackson. He attended Ragley schools and was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture and horticulture. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a crew member aboard a bomber in the campaigns of Burma, China and India.

After the military, he moved to the Bronx, N.Y., and then to Danbury in 1964. He had been employed as a floral designer for the Melillo Flower Shop of Danbury for the past 12 years and had previously worked at Vernon Church Flowers, Nyack, N.Y., for 20 years. He traveled to Puerto Rico for design art and made a U.S. flag out of flowers for the Desert Storm post-war celebration in Danbury. He was an avid square dancer and belonged to the Rocking Rooster Square Dance Club. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Jackson is survived by a son, Michael J. Jackson of Marshfield, Mass.; two daughters, Debbie W. Mathisen of Houston, Texas, and Susan M. Jackson of Redding; three brothers, Maxwell Jackson of Livingston, Texas, Marvin Jackson of Derrider, La., and Billie Jackson of Ragley, La.; a sister, Maxie Williams of Port Arthur, Texas; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Bob Schlageter of Western Connecticut State University as Celebrant. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.

Caroline Kaufmann
Caroline Grouse Kaufmann, 74, of Danbury, died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of Louis A. Kaufmann.

Mrs. Kaufmann was born in Danbury on June 12, 1922, a daughter of William Andrew and Florence Dana Gorham Grouse. She was a lifelong Danbury resident and a graduate of Drew Seminary in Carmel, N.Y. She worked as a bookkeeper for Hat City Paper in Danbury until her retirement. She later worked at A & P Fuel Service in Danbury. She was a 55-year member and former matron of Stellar Chapter #55, Order of the Eastern Star in Danbury and was a former Mother Adviser for Danbury Assembly #20 Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was a longtime active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Kaufmann is survived by a son, Dana L. Kaufmann of Danbury; four daughters, Diane E. Britton of Bethel, Deborah A. Kaufmann and Denise C. Kaufmann of Danbury and Drucilla J. Gravino of Carmel, N.Y.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Della L. Nelson
Della Leighty Nelson, 74, of Kent, formerly of New Preston, died Tuesday at New Milford Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Leonard B. Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson was born in South Point, Ohio, June 22, 1922. She graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Huntington, W. Va. After she was married she moved to the Washington, Conn. She was the owner of the Della L. Nelson Realty Company in the New Preston area and was active in the rejuvenation of Main Street in the New Preston business district. She was a active member of the Salem Covenant Church in Washington, where she served for many years as a member of the church council and the Lydia Circle. She was a member and past regent of the Judea Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Wichita Grange in Warren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Nelson is survived by a son, Craig Nelson of Warren; four daughters, Priscilla Pixler of Defiance, Ohio, Susan Nelson of Winchester, Va., Lynn Thomas of Birmingham, Ala., and Ruth Cowan of Weare, N.H.; four brothers, David Leighty, Thomas Leighty, Samuel Leighty and Patrick Leighty of South Point, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Scott Nelson.

Madelon B. Murphy
Madelon Boland Murphy, 84, of Bethel, died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Murphy.

Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 25, 1912, a daughter of Edward and Matilda DePoali Boland. She was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived most of her adult life in Atlanta, Ga.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by a son, J. Robert Murphy of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia M. Enloe of Alpharetta, Ga., and Carol M. Henry of Bethel; a brother, Eugene Boland of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Patricia B. Fosnaugh and Janet Boland of Cincinnati, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held in Alpharetta, Ga. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Ga. The Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph L. Young
Ralph L. Young, 80, of Warren, half brother of Daniel Young of Washington, Conn., died Wednesday at New Milford Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Virginia Buscemi Young.

Mr. Young was born in Warren on April 16, 1916, a son of Ralph and Jennie Brague Young.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater.

He worked as a chef at the former Tranquil House Convalescent Home in Warren for several years and later for the Candlewood Valley Care Center in New Milford. He was a member of the Warren Congregational Church, the Bates- Schnell Post American Legion of Warren and the Wichita Grange of Warren.

In addition to his half brother, Mr. Young is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Yodkins and Kathryn Duhan of Warren; two other half brothers, William Mosher and Norman Smalley of Warren; four half sisters, Jeanne Haviland of Bantam, Janice Smalley and Minerva Smalley of Warren and Ann Wyant of Florida; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the new Warren Cemetery.

Mary C. Elias
Mary C. Elias, 64, a resident of Brookfield since 1963, died Thursday at Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of John M. Elias Sr.

Mrs. Elias was born in Yonkers, N.Y., Oct. 19, 1932, a daughter of Casmire and Mary Greytak Jansky. She attended Yonkers schools and was a graduate of Commerce High School, Class of 1950.

She had been employed by Union Carbide Corp. in the company store and as an administrator in the treasury department for 10 years. She previously worked at the Danbury Police Department and the Senior Employment Center in Danbury. She was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Elias is survived by a son, John M. Elias Jr. of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Laurie A. Parker of Waterbury; a sister, Eleanor Jansky of Yonkers, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Contributions in the memory of Mary C. Elias may be made to the Coronary Care Unit of Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT 06810.
