A. Charecky Jr.
Alexander Charecky Jr., 84, a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, died Saturday at Mediplex of Newington.
A resident of Brookfield for the past five years, Mr. Charecky was the husband of the late Elsie Herzing Charecky.
He was born in New York, N.Y., on May 29, 1912, a son of Alexander and Teckla Hornanchuk Charecky Sr. He attended Monroe High School in Bronx, N.Y.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
Before his retirement, Mr. Charecky was employed for the U.S. Postal Service in the Bronx.
After leaving the Bronx, he lived in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., before moving to Brookfield to live with his son.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church of Brookfield and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Mr. Charecky is survived by a son, Michael A. Charecky Sr. of Brookfield; a sister, Mary Charecky of Wappingers Falls; three grandchildren; and a nephew.

Jeanette A. Helgert
Jeanette A. Helgert, 86, a retired employee of the former John McLean Store in Danbury, died Saturday.
Mrs. Helgert, of 13 Reservoir St., Bethel, was the wife of the late Edward J. Helgert.
A lifetime resident of the area, she was born in Danbury on June 6, 1910, a daughter of William A. and Louise McGuiness Tooley.
Mrs. Helgert was a member of St. Mary's Church in Bethel, St. Mary's Guild, Church Women United, and the AARP.
Her survivors include two daughters, Joan M. Shannon of Bethel and Eleanor H. Weseloh of North Haven, Conn.; a brother, Edward Helgert of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

A. Joseph Servadio
A. Joseph Servadio, 82, a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, died Sunday at his home at 46 Soundview Road, Ridgefield.
Mr. Servadio was the husband of Josephine Frances Albanesi Servadio.
He was born in Ridgefield on July 7, 1914, a son of Alberto and Allegrina Serfilippi Servadio. He was a 1934 graduate of Ridgefield High School and attended Baypath College in Springfield, Mass.
During his 21 years of service with the Air Force, he was stationed in England and France during World War II and later at bases in Alabama, Alaska, New Foundland and Maine.
Following his military career, Mr. Servadio was a nurseryman for Woodcock Nursery in Ridgefield until 1980.
In Ridgefield, he was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Italian- American Mutual Aid Society.
Besides his wife, Mr. Servadio is survived by two sisters, Ines T. Carboni and Ada S. Knapp, both of Ridgefield; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert S. Byrnes
Robert S. Byrnes, 75, a retired employee of American Telephone & Telegraph, died Sunday at his home in Bethel.
Mr. Byrnes lived at 9 Woodlawn Drive. He was the husband of Margaret Dublin Byrnes.
Born in Gowanda, N.Y., March 4, 1922, he was a son of Raymond C. and Elsie Scott Byrnes.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He served four years with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific and China and attained the rank of corporal.
Following his military service, Mr. Byrnes began his career with the New York Telephone Company in Buffalo, N.Y. He joined AT&T as a right of way agent in 1962. He retired in 1982.
Mr. Byrnes was an avid gardener and reader.
Besides his wife, Mr. Byrnes is survived by three sons, Thomas C. of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., John D. of Bethel, and Michael C. of South Wales, N.Y.; two daughters, Barbara B. Coles of Bethel and Kathleen F. Eckert of Buffalo, N.Y.; a brother, Raymond C. of Venice, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Byrnes was predeceased by a son, Robert Scott Byrnes.

Noel B. Gamache
Noel B. Gamache, 82, a retired employee of N.Y. Central and Conrail in Brewster, died April 16 at the Medical Center in Plano, Texas.
A resident of Plano, Mr. Gamache was the husband of Catherine Knipling Gamache.
He was born in Ludingtonville, N.Y., on Feb. 24, 1915, a son of Alphonse and Fannie Brownlee Gamache. He lived in Pawling, N.Y., before moving to Texas.
Before his retirement 18 years ago, Mr. Gamache had been employed by N.Y. Central and Conrail for 28 years.
His survivors include a son, James Gamache of Plano; a daughter, Maryann Rosselle of Holmes, N.Y.; two brothers, George Gamache of Holmes and Robert Gamache of Pawling; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Gamache.

Herbert Schaltegger
Herbert Eduard Schaltegger, 85, a retired manager for the Nestle Co. in New Milford and California, died Sunday at Hartford Hospital.
Mr. Schaltegger, of 10 Schaghticoke Trail, New Milford, was the husband of Hilda Krebser Schaltegger. Mr. and Mrs. Schaltegger had celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Nov. 20, 1996.
Born in Winterthur, Switzerland, on Sept. 18, 1911, he was a son of August and Anna Keller Schaltegger. He was educated in Switzerland and came to the United States in 1940, and to New Milford in 1942.
During his long career with the Nestle Co., Mr. Schaltegger served as plant manager in New Milford from 1947 to 1972. He was project manager for Boringer Winery of Napa, California, a subsidiary of the Nestle Co., from 1972 until his retirement in 1976. Following his retirement, he continued as a consultant with Nestle.
Mr. Schaltegger was a government volunteer with the U.S. Department of State with the International Executive Service Inc. He served in Egypt in 1988.
He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of New Milford.
Besides his wife, Mr. Schaltegger is survived by three sons, Herbert M. of New Milford, Fred E. of Duluth, Ga., and Richard A. of North Attleboro, Mass.; a daughter, Heidi A. Lowrance of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Book of Remembrance at the First Congregational Church of New Milford.

William D. Morgan
William D. Morgan, 81, a lifelong area resident and retired hatter, died Sunday at his home.
Mr. Morgan lived at 408 Main St., Danbury.
He was born in Danbury on April 10, 1916, a son of James Sr. and Georgia Haddy Morgan. He attended local schools.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater with the 10th Infantry Company.
Before his retirement, Mr. Morgan had been employed as a hatter for various hat companies in the Danbury area.
He is survived by a stepson, William Schrack of Danbury.

Oscar S. Noyd
Oscar S. Noyd, 68, of 3 East Pembroke Road, Danbury, died Sunday at Bethel Health Care.
Mr. Noyd was born in Stamford, Conn., on Aug. 10, 1928, a son of Oscar S. and Gertrude Farrelly Noyd.
His survivors include a son, Alan T. Noyd of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Marge Just of South Norwalk, Conn.; and a grandson.

Ruby Solomon
Ruby Tilton Solomon, 95, a concert pianist and music teacher, died Sunday at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Solomon, of 54 Mountainville Road, Danbury, was the wife of the late Harry Solomon.
She was born in Springfield, Mass., on June 19, 1901, a daughter of Edward Payson and Katie Annette Moody Tilton Jr.
A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music in New York, Mrs. Solomon was a concert pianist. She also taught music privately and at the Manhattan School of Music and Bennington College in Vermont.
She moved to Danbury 15 years ago from Bennington, Vt.
Mrs. Solomon is survived by a daughter, Sheila T. Dobbin of Danbury, with whom she made her home; and two grandchildren.

Stephen J. Zukowski
Stephen J. Zukowski, 53, father of Stephen J. Zukowski Jr. and Allison Zukowski, both of Brewster, died Tuesday at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.
Mr. Zukowski lived at 24 Bartell St., Torrington.
He was born in Torrington on Nov. 6, 1943, a son of Eleanor Zukowski of Torrington and the late Stephen A. Zukowski. He lived in Torrington most of his life.
Mr. Zukowski was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Co. for more than 30 years.
Besides his mother and children, Mr. Zukowski is survived by a brother, Gerald T. Zukowski of Torrington.

Sylvia Golden
Sylvia Golden, 81, a former area resident, died Friday in La Jolla, Calif.
A resident of La Jolla for the past 24 years, Mrs. Golden was the wife of the late Alfred Golden. Mr. Golden died Feb. 22, 1997.
She was born in Danbury, Oct. 24, 1915, a daughter of Israel and Rose Wallach Schwartz.
She had lived in Danbury and New Milford before moving to West Hartford and then to California. Mrs. Golden was a retired hygienist.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann Conley and Karen Alice Hartman, both of California; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
