Charlie (Pop-Pop) Haug
Charlie (Pop-Pop) Haug, 75, of South Salem, N.Y., died Aug. 28, 1999, in South Salem. He was the husband of Catherine (Jones) Haug.
Born in Connecticut, Sept. 5, 1923, he was a son of the late Charles D. Sr. and Emma (Keen) Haug.
Mr. Haug was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a member of the Katonah American Legion Post. Before moving to South Salem in 1947, he had lived in Pound Ridge, N.Y.
Mr. Haug was a retired machine operator for the Highway Department of the Town of Lewisboro, N.Y., retiring in 1987 after 15 years of service. Previously, he was a self-employed truck driver, a telephone lineman and an employee at the Cross River, N.Y., Sunoco Station and the Pound Ridge Chevron Station.
He was a well-accomplished handyman, and he loved to go camping in his trailer. He was a beloved husband, loving father and devoted grandfather.
Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two sons, Dan Haug of St. George, Vt., and Gary Haug of Ridgefield; daughter-in-law Diane Haug of Ridgefield; grandsons Brandon, Brett and Ben; three brothers, Richard of Canaan, John of Grand Blanc, Mich., and George of Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister, Audrey Wilson of Old Saybrook.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, N.Y. Funeral services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cross River Baptist Church, Cross River, N.Y. Interment will be in South Salem Cemetery.

James B. Welles Jr.
James Bell Welles Jr. of Chappaqua, N.Y., devoted husband and father, died on August 28, 1999 after a brief illness.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y. on August 27, 1918, Mr. Welles was the second child of James B. Welles and Grace Eleanor Frazer. His sister, Mary Bruce of Rochester, N.Y., survives him.
Mr. Welles graduated from Columbia College and Columbia Law School. During World War II, he was a major with the USAAC, 366th Fighter Group. He was a retired senior partner with the firm of Debevoise, Plimpton in New York City.
Mr. Welles is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Thom Welles, and his children, Nancy W. Leahy, James B. Welles, III, Thomas B. Welles, and Amy B. Welles. His son, William B. Welles, predeceased him. Mr. Welles also has nine grandchildren.
Mr. Welles was actively involved with many charitable organizations including the Burke Rehabilitation Center, Chappaqua Historical Society, Columbia University, Emma Willard School and St. Mark's Church.
A memorial service will be held on September 2, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Church, Mt. Kisco, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y. or Camp Dudley in Westport, N.Y.
Grace Newton
Grace (Bongiorno) Newton, 69, of 74 Golden Hill Road, Danbury, died Friday at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of James E. Newton.
Mrs. Newton was born in New York City on July 1, 1930, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Viona) Bongiorno.
She attended Danbury schools.
Mrs. Newton and her husband had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Edward Newton of Templeton, MA, and Joseph Newton of Schenevus, N.Y.; three daughters, Debra Young of New Fairfield, Virginia Veilleux of Huntington and Myra Crane of New Britain; three sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 2nd, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Danbury.

Carol Conger
Carol "Bunny" Conger, age 69, former owner of the Sandy Hook Diner, died August 28, 1999, in Ashlar of Newtown. Mrs. Conger was the wife of the late John W. Conger and formerly lived on Great Hill Road, Newtown.
She was born in New York City Nov. 23, 1929, a daughter of the late Kevin and Grace (Cavanaugh) Boyle. A resident of Newtown the past 45 years, for many years she was a head cook at the Fireside Inn of Newtown. She was the proprietor of the Sandy Hook Diner from 1986 to 1993.
Mrs. Conger is survived by a son, Robert Conger of Sandy Hook and a daughter Patricia Andrew of Newtown, 2 grandchildren, Zachary and Dawnielle Conger.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mary Cullerton
Mary McLachlan Cullerton, 70, of 212 St. John's Road, Ridgefield, died Saturday evening at her home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert Cullerton.
Mrs. Cullerton was born in Danbury on Nov. 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Arnold and Mary Burns McLachlan; her family was in the hatting industry. She attended Barat College in Lake Forest, IL and she completed her Master's Degree at New York University.
Mrs. Cullerton spent her adult life teaching locally and was renowned; she'll be remembered as an inspiration to the youth she taught. Her joy in later life came from the youth surrounding her and her grandchildren. She was also an avid fan of Les Paul and Gordon Lightfoot.
Survivors include one son: Geoffrey. Two daughters: Brenda and Rachel. One sister: Janet Jobe of Fairfield, CT. Her adored grandchildren: Eric, Nathaniel, Jack, Madeleine, Nora and Albert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury, at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.

Cecil Craft
Cecil "Chris" Craft, age 74, husband of the late Rita (Rhea) Craft of 13 Albert Road, Danbury, formerly of Newtown, died Sunday, August 29, 1999, in Ashlar of Newtown.
He was born in Oyster Bay, NY, on April 16, 1925, son of the late Cecil and Margaret Ann (Clemens) Craft.
Mr. Craft enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served on destroyers in the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Korean War. He was the recipient of several battle stars. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Torpedo Man, First/Class in 1962.
Mr. Craft moved to Newtown following his discharge from the Navy and was hired as a Stationary Engineer at the power plant of Fairfield Hills Hospital, a position he held for 15 years. More recently he was employed as a courier for Newtown Savings Bank.
One of his favorite pastimes was ballroom dancing.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher Craft of Brookfield and Timothy Craft of Southbury, 2 brothers, Edgar Campbell of Scarsdale, NY and George Campbell of Kingston, NY and a granddaughter, Cristen L. Craft.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow. Armand H. Plourde
Armand H. Plourde, 71, beloved husband of Joan (Levesseur) Plourde, died August 20, 1999, at Van Buren Health Care Facility in Maine.
He was born in Fort Kent, Maine, January 7, 1928, the son of Levite and Isabelle (Ouellette) Plourde. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Danbury Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Besides his wife of Fort Kent, he is survived by three daughters, Diane Scott of Bethel; Delores Plourde of Danbury, and Sharon and her husband Stewart Schilb of Brookfield; 13 brothers and sister, Patrick "Joe" Plourde of Fort Kent, Julian Plourde of St. Augustine, Fla., Leoite "June" Plourde of New Milford, Philip Plourde of Plainville, Claude Plourde of Portage, Me., Juliette Belanger and Bernadette Caron, both of Bristol, Bernice Corriveau of Terryville, Marie Whalen of Southington, Lolita Collins of Eagle Lake, Me., Theresa Voisine and Rella Dubois, both of Fort Kent. Patricea Hickey of East Hartford; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 23 at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent, Me., with the Rev. James Plourde officiating. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.
At the request of the family, those who wish may donate in his memory to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Burnswick, ME 04011. Arrangements were handled by the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home in Fort Kent, Me.
Anthony J. Lyons
Anthony J. Lyons died Aug. 27, 1999, at the Danbury Hospital at the age of 61. He was the husband of Marilyn Margarella Lyons and lived at 18 Fourth St., Danbury.
Mr. Lyons was born in Dublin, Ireland, May 30, 1938, son of Patrick Lyons and the late Catherine Doyle Lyons. He received his early education in Ireland and came to this country at the age of 18. He graduated from Fordham University in New York with a degree in philosophy.
He was a self-employed computer programmer and was retired from I.B.M. after 32 years. He attended St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his father of Dublin, Ireland; his son, Patrick A. Lyons of Danbury; 7 daughters, Theresa Smith, Marilyn Lyons, Debbie Owen and Elizabeth Lyons, all of Danbury, Eileen Ryan of Fishkill, N.Y., Maureen Lyons of Tallahassee, Fla., and Amy Grazer of Southbury; 8 grandchildren; his brothers Patrick, Terry and Damien; and his sisters, Marie, Carmel, Claire and Jean, all of Ireland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 12 noon at St. Gregory Church. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Robert Siegel
Robert Siegel, 60, President and Owner of the Berkshire Lighting Gallery of Danbury and New Milford, died on Thursday, August 26, 1999, at the Danbury Hospital.
He was the husband of Catherine (Spano) Siegel and resided at Knollcrest Road, New Fairfield.
Mr. Siegel was born in Brooklyn, New York, march 29, 1939, a son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Zeiger) Siegel. He attended Brooklyn and Harrison, New York, schools and graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a B.S. in Accounting.
In 1972, Bob and his wife, Cathy, established the Berkshire Gift and Lamp Shop, which then became the Berkshire Lighting Gallery. In 1996, they established a second business location in New Milford.
A resident of New Fairfield for the past 30 years coming from Rye, New York, he was a certified lighting consultant with the American Lighting Association and a former board member. He was a member of the Danbury Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoyed the sport of boating, flying and auto racing as well as his time spent on Lake Candlewood.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, he is survived by a son, Stephen R. Siegel of New Fairfield; a daughter, Jennifer P. Siegel of New Fairfield; and two brothers, Paul Siegel of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Sheldon Siegel of Baldwin, L.I., N.Y.
Funeral services will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury, with Rabbi Bradd Boxman and the Rev. Brian Gray officiating.
Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury, on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Julia Kircher
Julia Kircher died on August 26, 1999 at her home, 28 East Hayestown Road, Danbury, Conn., at the age of 89. She was the wife of the late William G. Kircher.
She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on November 13, 1909, daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Plit Matthews.
Mr. and Mrs. Kircher settled permanently in Danbury in 1966. She was a member of St. Gregory Church. Mrs. Kircher devoted her life to her home and family.
She is survived by her son, William R. Kircher of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her daughter, Joan Kircher of Danbury, Conn.; her cousin, Tessie Anderson, who made her home with Mrs. Kircher; her brother-in-law, Sam Honey of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel, Conn.

Maria C. Bonet
Maria C. (Rivera) Bonet, 46, of 10 Triangle Terrace in Danbury, Conn., wife of Efrain Bonet, died on August 26, 1999 at Westchester Medical Center.
She was born in Puerto Rico on November 22, 1952, daughter of Jose Rivera of Puerto Rico and Francisca (Santos) Rivera of Danbury.
Mrs. Bonet was employed as a third-party supervisor for Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for J/CAP.
Besides her husband, father and mother, she is survived by two sons, Albert Perez of Queens, N.Y. and Alexander Perez of Danbury, Conn.; three sisters, Carmen Rivera of Puerto Rico and Betsy Lopez and Ruth Rivera, both of Danbury; three grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ada Rivera, in 1997.
