Theodore Zaloski
Theodore Zaloski of 7 Fordyce Road, New Milford, died Thursday at Candlewood Valley Care Center, New Milford. He was 84.

Mr. Zaloski was the husband of Dorothy Duncan Zaloski.

He was born in Bridgeport, Dec. 24, 1912, a son of the late John and Caroline Kordecka Zaloski. He lived in New Milford since 1928. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He later worked for 20 years for the former Robertson Bleachery & Dye Works in New Milford, and later for the former Scovill Manufacturing Co.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Theordore of New Milford; three brothers, Edward of New Milford, Benjamin of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Alfred of Southbury; a sister, Dorothy Zaloski of Clearwater, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

James Madkour
James A. Madkour of Elizabeth Street, Bethel, a retired insurance claims adjuster, died Wednesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was 77.

Mr. Madkour was the husband of Hneineh (Abousamra) Madkour, to whom he was married for 51 years.

He was born in Lawrence, Mass., Jan. 4, 1920, a son of Ibrahim and Hanneh (Mowad) Madkour. Reared and educated to Lebanon, where he moved in 1992, he returned to the United States in 1970, settling in the Danbury area.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Maronite Church, Danbury.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, Samir of Franklin Lakes, N.J., Antoine and Kamil, both of Kula, Hawaii, Ibrahim of Bethel and Ghassan of Worcester, Mass.; a daughter, Sabah Chammas of Saddle Brook, N.J.; two brothers, Antoine and Michel, both of France; two sisters, Marie Chammas of France and Ilham Khoury of Australia; nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Wendell Foster
Wendell P. Foster of 4 Chestnut St., Bethel, died Wednesday in Danbury. He was 84.

Mr. Foster was born in Danbury, Oct. 11, 1913, a son of the late Wendell P. and Viola May Brandow Foster . He was reared and educated in Danbury, and he moved to Bethel 60 years ago.

He served in the National Guard, and he was a self-employed painting contractor for most of his life.

He was a member of the Eureka Lodge of Masons in Bethel, the Bethel Lions Club, the Bethel Congregational Church, and a former member of the Bethel Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Foster was the husband of the Dorothy Mae Mead Foster .

Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Schmidt of Bethel and Shirley A. Wessel of West Simsbury; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Donald Maty
Donald F. Maty of Niceville, Fla., former owner of Village Cleaners in New Fairfield and Fox Fire Restaurant in Bethel, died Monday in Westfield, Pa. He was 60.

Mr. Maty was the husband of Patricia Maty of Niceville.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Aug. 10, 1937, a son of Frank and Ida Maty. He attended schools in the Cleveland area, as well Malone College and Rutgers University. He served the U.S. Navy for three years.

Besides his local businesses, he also worked for Johnson & Johnson, Star Filter and Economic Laboratories.

For many years, he was active in barbershop quartet, and he was an avid outdoorsman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald Maty of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; three daughters, Lori Wood and Lisa Merritt, both of Pensacola, Fla., and Linda Maty of Niceville; a brother, Richard Maty of Melbourne, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Contributions in memory of Donald Maty may be made to the Little Flower Building Fund, 6495 Lillian Highway, Pensacola, FL 32506.

SERVICES: Mass recited, Tuesday, 9 a.m., St. Edward's Church, New Fairfield. Burial will be at the family's convenience.

Viljo Sjoblom
Viljo H. Sjoblom of White Pine Drive, Brookfield, a 29-year resident of the town, died Thursday at Danbury Hospital. He was 65.

Mr. Sjoblom was the husband of Betty A. Cheer Sjoblom.

He was born in Binghamton, N.Y., Feb. 3., 1932, a son of John and Louisa Aho Sjoblom. He was a 1950 graduate of Binghamton North High School.

He worked with IBM in Endicott, N.Y., for 20 years, until his retirement as a manager of the plastic molding department in 1994. He was also a manager at Lacey Plastic Manufacturing, where he worked for six years. He was a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, William Sjoblom of Bethel; three daughters, Louise Pelliccione of Ridgefield, Diane LeBel of Tolland and Karen Tozzi of Hamden; and nine grandchildren.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Sjoblom may be made to the Connecticut Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, 35 Cold Spring Road, Rocky Hill 06067.

There are no calling hours, and cremation and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Cornell/Brookfield Funeral Home of Danbury and Brookfield is in charge of the arrangements.

John F. Benn
John F. Benn, 91, a retired self-employed building contractor, died Wednesday at the New Milford Nursing Home.

Formerly of Chestnut Grove, New Milford, Mr. Benn was the husband of the late Maude Kern Benn.

He was born in Jersey City, N.J., May 30, 1906, a son of Michael and Anne Berris Benn.

A resident of New Milford since 1979, he spent his early life in Norwalk and had lived in Greenwich before moving to New Milford.

Mr. Benn is survived by a son, John N. Benn of Naples, Fla.; three daughters, Maryhelen Rice of Durham, Maine, Patricia DeSorbo of Bath, N.Y., and Katherine Vaupel of Norwalk, Conn; a sister, Helen Brown of Dayton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Contributions in Mr. Benn's memory may be made to the New Milford Nursing Home, 12 Poplar St., New Milford 06776.

SERVICES: Saturday at 9:30 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan, Conn.

Carmela M. Jackson
Carmela M. Corvino Jackson, 85, a Danbury resident since 1935, died Wednesday at Heritage Heights, Danbury.

Mrs. Jackson, of 15 Barnum Road, was the wife of the late William A. Jackson Sr.

She was born in New Haven, Conn., Oct. 11, 1912, a daughter of Genaro and Lucille Corvino.

Her survivors include a son, William A. Jackson Jr. of Danbury; a brother, Alphonse Corvino of New Haven; a sister, Katherine Ruggerio of West Haven, Conn.; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

There are no calling hours.

SERVICES: Friday at 11 a.m., graveside services in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Rita F. Griffin
Rita F. Griffin, 84, a retired dental hygienist, died Friday at Mediplex of Danbury.

Miss Griffin formerly lived at Chapelle Street in Danbury.

A lifelong Danbury resident, she was born in Danbury, Aug. 26, 1913, a daughter of Charles H. and Clara Friel Griffin.

A graduate of Danbury schools, Miss Griffin received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a master's degree from the University of Bridgeport.

She worked in the Danbury school system for many years and took an active interest in many of the students and helped them achieve their goals.

Miss Griffin traveled extensively.

She has no immediate survivors.

SERVICES: Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury with Leo McGrath officiating.

Elizabeth Northrup
Elizabeth Couto Northrup, 36, a former Danbury resident, died Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in a automobile accident on Nov. 22.

Mrs. Northrup, of 110 Main St., Culloden, Ga., was the wife of Charles Northrup.

She was born in New Bedford, Mass., June 24, 1961, a daughter of Edwardo Couto of San Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and the late Regina Pacheco Couto. She came to Danbury as a child and was a 1979 graduate of Danbury High School.

Mrs. Northrup had been employed as an insurance representative of the Geico Insurance Company.

She moved to Georgia from Danbury in October of 1996.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Northrup is survived by three sisters, Darlene Dodson and Susana Pudelka, both of Danbury, and Dorothy McCarthy of West Redding; a brother, George Couto of Macon, Ga.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Helen Linkoff
Helen Brandyberry Harvey Linkoff of New Milford, a theatrical agent for more than 50 years, died Nov. 17 in Hartford. She suffered injuries from a Sept. 5 car accident.

Mrs. Linkoff was born in Huntington, W. Va., Aug. 18, 1916, a daughter of Thomas and Helen Brandyberry Harvey. She attended Bryn Mawr College and graduated from Ohio State University.

She began her career working for producers Carly Wharton, Martin Gabel, Alfred deLiagre Jr. and the Playwrights Company.

As the head of the play department at MCA and then the William Morris Agency, she was involved in such on- and off-Broadway shows as ``Fiddler On The Roof,'' ``Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'' ``Cabaret'' ``The Threepenny Opera,'' ``42nd Street,'' ``The Heidi Chronicles,'' ``Come Blow Your Horn,'' ``Peter Pan'' and ``1776.'' After leaving the William Morris Agency, she opened her own agency _ Helen Harvey Associates.

She represented such clients as Edward Albee, Lillian Hellman, Joe Masteroff, Daniel Sullivan, Jose Quintero, Terence McNalley and Neil Simon.

Retiring to New Milford 25 years ago, the nature enthusiast moved into an old farmhouse that she named ``Paradiso.''

She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Douglas; two sons, James of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Frank of New York City; and seven grandchildren.

Cremation was at Ferncliff Crematory, Hartsdale, N.Y. The Colonial Funeral Home of Hull Funeral Service, New Milford, was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Miller
Dorothy A. Miller of 200 Mansfield Village, Hackettstown, N.J., and a Danbury native, died Sunday at her home. She was 83.

She was the widow of Chester Irving Miller.

Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 26, 1913, a daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Walsh Lattin. A retail worker in downtown Danbury before her retirement, she was a photo studio manager at the former Genung's Department Store and a lead saleswoman at the former McCory's Five and Dime.

She was a resident of Grandview Avenue and later Skyline Drive in Danbury before retiring to Florida with her husband. The couple moved to New Jersey three years ago to be with their daughter, Joan Doris Miller Ram of Hackettstown.

Mr. Miller died in March and Mrs. Miller had been ill since August.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by a sister, Harriet Ford of Newtown; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Wednesday, 10 a.m., Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury. Burial will be in the family's plot at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Agnes Ketcham
Agnes C. Ketcham of 172 Old Sib Road, Ridgefield, died Monday at Maritime Health Center at Bridebrook in Niantic. She was 80.

She was the wife of the late Harry Tilden Ketcham.

Mrs. Ketcham was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., March 23, 1917, a daughter of Edward and Annie Corrigan Golden. She was a cook at the Farmingville School in Ridgefield for 15 years before retiring.

A permanent resident of Ridgefield since 1962, Mrs. Ketcham was previously of Queens, N.Y.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.

Survivors include a son, Robert, of New Fairfield; a daughter, Carol A. Forenchak of Old Lyme; three sisters, Ann VanHouton of Palm Bay, Fla., Mary Thielo of Ridgefield and Theresa DeMott of California; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son Michael Christopher in 1959.
