Clorinda Rose (Macchiaverna) Puglisi
Clorinda Rose (Macchiaverna) Puglisi, 88, of Danbury, wife of Rosario Puglisi, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Laurelwood Nursing Center, Ridgefield.
She was born in DeLorme, West Virginia, on September 21, 1911, daughter of the late Giuseppi and Filomena Macchiaverna. At the age of two her parents returned to Italy and she attended Italian schools. At the age of eighteen, she came back to the United States and resided in Danbury.
Mrs. Puglisi returned to Italy in 1948 to marry. In 1949 she came back to the U.S. to reside in Danbury with her husband.
She worked as a dressmaker in a children's clothing factory in Danbury for many years and then as a machine operator in the packing department of the former Eagle Pencil Company until her retirement in 1976. She was a longtime member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by her son, Joseph Puglisi of New Milford; her daughter, (Concetta) Mary Northrop and son-in-law Frank Northrop of New Fairfield; her daughter Diana Bytell and son-in-law, John Lynn Bytell of Plymouth; eight grandchildren, Joseph Puglisi Jr. and Jason Puglisi, Bryan, Scott and Renee Northrop, Justin, Shawn and Amy Bytell; a brother, Pasquale "Pat" Macchiaverna of Danbury; two sisters, Rosalie Schiavone of Coconut Creek, FL, and Louise Miller of Milford; and nieces and nephews. She also was predeceased by her sister, Nina Drago.
Every life she came in contact with was touched by her unselfish ways, true devotion and undying love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church, on Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will take place in St. Peter Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Marsha F. Ricard
Marsha F. Ricard, age 54, of 6 Harvard Road, Danbury, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Clyde L. Ricard.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, May 6, 1945, she was a daughter of Helen (Flynn) Reynolds of Danbury and the late Merton I. Reynolds.
She was educated in Danbury schools and worked as a sales clerk for the Sears & Roebuck Company. She was a member of St. Peter Church of Danbury.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Paul R. Ricard of Danbury, and a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Richard Goodwin of Danbury; a brother, Merton Reynolds of Danbury; two sisters, Karen Chadsey of Portland and Janet Wetheral of Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Mary Jane Foster
Mary Jane Widirstky Foster , age 82, of Wolfpit Road, Bethel, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Filosa Convalescent Center, Danbury. She was the wife of William J. Foster .
Mrs. Foster was born in Greenport, Long Island, NY, December 2, 1917, a daughter of the late Joseph and Alexandra Casper Widirstky. Formerly of New York, she has lived in Bethel for 50 years and had worked in various capacities in New York City, retiring after working for the Crescent Belt Company. Mrs. Foster had been formerly active in Cub Scouting and had attended the Bethel United Methodist Church. She was also an ardent oil painter, creating landscapes.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Bruce J. Foster and his wife Melissa of Windsor, MA; a sister, Julia Zittman of Yonkers, NY; one granddaughter, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Private services with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, is handling arrangements.
Gladys Chase Williamson
Gladys Chase Williamson, 99, of 2 Gaylord Road, Gaylordsville District, New Milford, died Friday at New Milford Nursing Home.
Mrs. Williamson was born in Danbury, May 16, 1900, a daughter of the late George C. and Idella Bernd Chase. She was a graduate of Danbury High School. She moved to New Milford in 1923.
She is survived by a son, David Williamson of Gaylordsville; a daughter, Betty W. Gebhardt of Torrington; a brother, Curtis C. Chase of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, with the Rev. Paul Hibbard, minister of the Gaylordsville United Methodist Church, officiating. There are no calling hours.

William J. Prescott Sr.
William J. Prescott Sr., 73, of 8 Marbil Rd., Danbury, died in Youngstown, Ohio on Tuesday, April 4, 2000. He was the husband of the late Helen (Urbanowski) Prescott.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., September 12, 1926, he was a son of the late William and Olga (Swenson) Prescott. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he served aboard the USS Jack W. Wilke.
Mr. Prescott worked as a self-employed Painter and Wallpaper Hanger and was also known as a collector and historian. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
He is survived by his sons, William J. Prescott Jr. of Danbury and Robert A. Prescott of Scottsdale, Arizona and his daughter, Judith A. Prescott of Girard, Ohio; as well as his sisters, Ruth Stolle and Florence Lawlor, both of Bethel and Barbara Werner of Calabash, N.C.; and grandchildren, Jesse W. Adcox, John M. Adcox, Jennifer L. Prescott, Jason A. Prescott, Robert A. Prescott and Brittany M. Prescott.

Andrea J. Bailey
Andrea J. (Pilewski) Bailey, 56, wife of Francis E. Bailey, of 6176 Lakeway Drive, Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Stadley Rough Rd., Danbury, died on Thursday at the Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va., after being stricken ill.
She was born in Yonkers, N.Y., March 27, 1944, daughter of the late Frederick and Helen (Krusko) Harsaghy. She moved to New Fairfield as a child and had lived in this area prior to retiring and moving south three years ago. Andrea was a graduate of Danbury High School and Danbury State Teachers College. She had taught in the New Fairfield School System for twenty-one years prior to her retirement.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Pilewski of Danbury and Jocelyn Pilewski of Waterbury; two sisters, Paula Graham of New Jersey and Beth Harsaghy of Florida; a grandson, Avery Savage and a granddaughter, Shannon Bailey and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Gerald A. Rathjen
Gerald A. Rathjen, age 94, of Danbury, died at his home on Saturday. He was the husband of the late Frances Mary (Condon) Rathjen.
Mr. Rathjen was born in Watertown, NY, July 28, 1905, a son of the late William A. and Winifred N. (Davenport) Rathjen. He graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY in 1930 with a BS in Horticulture. Upon graduating from college, Mr. Rathjen worked at the former Outpost Nursery, in Ridgefield.
Mr. Rathjen was a US Army veteran of WW II, stationed in France and Germany. After WW II, he served in the Army Reserves. out of Stamford. CT, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
A resident of Ridgefield and Danbury for over 45 years, he later was employed at the former Woodcock Nursery, Ridgefield and the Gerow's Nursery, New Fairfield and was a member of the "Botanical Garden".
In 1993, Mr. Rathjen was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mr. Rathjen is survived by his sister, Helen Mattison, of Naperville, IL.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 12th at St. Joseph Cemetery, Millbrook, NY at 10:00AM.
There are no calling hours.

Vivian H. Neale
Vivian H. Neale, age 86, of Danbury, CT, died Saturday, April 8, 2000 at Bethel Health Care Center, Bethel, CT., after a short period of failing health.
She was born on February 28, 1914 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the late Harry G. and Eleanor Stumpfel Neale. She lived many years in New Canaan, CT. She graduated from New Canaan High School in 1932, from Barnard College in 1936, and did post-graduate at Columbia University, The American Academy in Rome and The American School of Classical Studies in Athens. She served as President of the Association of Teachers in Independent Schools, was a member of the Classical Club of New York and Secretary of her class at Barnard College.
Her teaching career in the classics spanned 40 years in independent schools including Nightingale-Bamford, Birth-Wathen and most recently 20 years at The Chapin School from which she retired as Head of the Classics Department in 1978.
From 1945 to 1947 she served with the American Red Cross in the Philippines and Japan.
Miss Neale was an avid gardener and bird watcher, having worked with the National Audubon Society several summers.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Messinger of Southbury, CT., Mrs. Frances Potter of Keene, NH, a brother, Harry L. Neale of Santa Ana, CA, and by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church 165 South Ave , New Canaan,CT at 11:30AM on Monday, April 10th, 2000. Friends may meet with the family following the service. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will be private. It is suggested that gifts in her memory be make to Barnard college, the United Methodist Church or any environmental cause.

Thomas C. Premo
Thomas C. Premo, 49, father of Aaron Thomas Premo and Jason Andrew Premo, of Bethel died on April 3, 2000, in Watervliet, NY.
Mr. Premo was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University with honors in the classics and psychology.
Mr. Premo proudly served with the US Navy from 1968 to1976.
He was employed for 12 yrs. at the Eaton Corp. in Bethel and made his home in the Danbury area for 15 years.
A Mass of the Divine Liturgy will be offered on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at 8PM at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 13 Pembroke Road, Danbury.
Arthur James McKenna
Arthur James McKenna, 86, of 167 Silver Spring Road, Ridgefield, died Thursday evening at his home. He was the husband of Marjorie Colville McKenna.
A Ridgefield resident for the past 38 years, Mr. McKenna was previously of Park Forest, IL.
Besides his wife, survivors include three daughters: Katherine L. McKenna of Nyack, NY, Constance E. McKenna of Rockville, MD, and Barbara McKenna of Washington, DC. One brother: Robert L. McKenna, MD, of Denver, CO. One sister: Constance McKenna of Sun City West, AZ. 5 grandchildren also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.

Martha B. Kosek
The death of Martha B. (Kassay) Kosek, 82, formerly of 17 Hillandale, Brookfield, occurred at the Harborside Glen Hill Nursing Center, Friday evening. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Kosek, Sr.
Born in New York, NY, July 3, 1917, daughter of the late Alexander and Anna (Levay) Kassay, she was a graduate of George Washington High School. Most of her life was spent in New York in the Bronx and Yonkers before moving to Brookfield in 1975.
For many years she had been employed as Registrar at Columbia University in New York retiring in 1975.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Kosek of Danbury, a brother, Arthur Kassay and his wife, Mary, a brother-in-law, Rudolph Kosek and two nephews, Kenneth and Randall Kosek. She was pre-deceased by her son, Joseph J. Kosek, Jr.

Anne R. Kelly
Anne R. Kelly, 89, formerly of Bethel, died at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, Danbury, on Friday evening.
She was born in Covington, VA, March 11. 1911, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bartley) Reardon. She had lived in Byram, CT from 1951 until she moved to Bethel in 1985, where she resided for 14 years. She had performed private duty nursing at Greenwich Hospital and also had been employed at the Nathaniel Witheral Nursing Home in Greenwich, prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Kelly is survived by a son, James Michael Kelly of Brookfield, two brothers, John Reardon of Harrisburg, VA and James Reardon of Christiansburg, VA., 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services and cremation will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation Services of Western CT, 55 Main St., Danbury, CT is in charge of arrangements.
