Wilma Smigala Webb Januzzi

"The Battle is Over The Victory Has Been Won". Surrounded by her loving family, Wilma went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 31, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital. She was 85 years old and lived on Eustis Road in Danbury.

Wilma was born in Danbury August 29, 1914, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Margaret Ricktarcik Smigala and graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School. For 28 years she lived with her former husband, the late William H. Webb, in Bethel, Ct. After settling in Danbury she worked for the State of Connecticut at Fairfield Hills Hospital and Western Ct. State College in the Housekeeping Dept.

She was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ct. State Employees Assoc., the AARP and the Possibility Thinkers Club.

She is survived by her son, Herbert A. Webb III and his wife Lisa; two daughters, Barbara J. Gavagan and her husband Roger and Wilma (Billie) Bourdeau and her husband Rodney, all of Danbury; her grandchildren, Bonnie Gavagan, Kathleen Weinzierl, Elizabeth Burandt, Patricia Tharas, Melissa Taylor, Tania Porta, Jason Bourdeau, Charles and Megan Webb; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Smigala and his wife Ruth; a sister, Margaret Elwell, all of Danbury; two sisters-in-law, Ilse Smigala and Lula Bergfors; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Barbara Jean Gavagan; her brothers, Emil, Ferdinand, George, Albert, Walter, Theodore and John; her sisters, Amalia Augustowski and Pauline Smigala.

Wilma was an Honorable woman and was much loved by her devoted family and friends. She will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Church, 32 West St., Danbury, with Pastor Daniel Wehmeier and Pastor Elect Walt Harper officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Step of Faith Program, 32 West St., Danbury, CT 06810 or to Orinda at The Landing, Old Brookfield Rd., Brookfield, CT 06804.

George L. O'Keefe

George L. O'Keefe, age 73, of Bethel, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday morning. He was the husband of Margaret M. (O'Neill) O'Keefe.

Mr. O'Keefe was born in New York, NY, February 22, 1927, a son of the late Luke and Margaret (Heffernon) O'Keefe. He graduated from schools in New York, and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving for 18 months in Berlin, Germany. Upon his discharge, Mr. O'Keefe entered Fordham University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. He continued his education, receiving his M.B.A. from Pace University in 1972.

Mr. O'Keefe was employed by the Olin Corporation for 20 years, retiring as Manager of Purchasing in 1982.

In 1983, he began employment as a consultant for the State of Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, a position he held until November, 1985, when he became the Executive Director of the Economic Development Commission for the Town of Bethel. Mr. O'Keefe remained executive director until his retirement in 1992.

Mr. O'Keefe was a past member of the Graybar Club (NY) Toastmasters International. He was a charter member of the Bethel Commission on Aging.

He was a past chairman of the Bethel Police Commission from 1981 through 1984, a former member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Western Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1991 thru 1995, former treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the I-CAN Foundation, a past president of Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, and a past member of the Bethel VNA Board of Directors.

A resident of Bethel since 1968, Mr. O'Keefe was a longtime parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, where he served on its Centennial Planning Board in 1981-1982, on its Building Commission and Construction Committee from 1993-1996, and most recently on its Cemetery Committee.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pavia Council #48, serving as Past Grand Knight 1983-1984, and a member of the Rev. John D. Kennedy Assembly #99, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Mr. O'Keefe was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians John A. Gildea Division No. 3, a member of the Rev. Patrick J. O'Connell Home Association of Bethel, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a Justice of the Peace.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Mr. O'Keefe is survived by several nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother: Joseph O'Keefe, and his sisters: Margaret Thomson, and Eileen O'Keefe.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 3rd, at 9:30 a.m. from the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, to the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 through 8 p.m.

Richard Tyrrell Carroll

Richard Tyrrell Carroll, 67, of Ox Drive, Brookfield, died Sunday at Ashlar of Newtown. Mr. Carroll was the husband of Barbara (Smith) Carroll. He was born in Greenwich, CT, April 16, 1933, a son of Frank J. Carroll and Ruth Tyrrell Carroll.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jonathan of Corvalis, Oregon and Richard Jr. and his wife Kathy of Rosendale, NY; a sister, Elaine Malloy of South Salem, NY; 2 grandchildren, Hudson and Madison Carroll and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne L. Carroll of South Salem, NY.

Mr. Carroll was a resident of South Salem, NY for 14 years where he operated Elmwood Farm. He has been a resident of Brookfield for the past 23 years. A retired Teacher, he taught in the Ridgefield High School.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he retired from the United States Air Force having served the last 16 years in the New York Air National Guard.

Mr. Carroll was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Brookfield and was a former Church Council member, as well as participating in its many committees and activities. He was also a member of the Jerusalem Lodge AF & AM, Ridgefield, and Pyramid Temple Shriners, Oregon Military Lodge AF & AM and Candlewood Shriners Club, was a longtime member of the Candlewood Amateur Radio Club and K2USG and W1ICF. He also served as an Assistant Scout Master of Troop 135 in Brookfield.

Funeral Services will be conducted at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Route 133, Brookfield, Friday morning at 11:00 with the Rev. Mark A. Nordskog, Pastor, officiating. A reception will follow at the church social hall.

Burial will follow at Prince of Peace Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9. Masonic Services will be held Thursday evening.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, Wallingford, CT; Prince of Peace Lutheran Nursery School Scholarship or Prince of Peace Youth Group, Route 133, Brookfield, CT 06804.

John Mitchik

John Mitchik, 89, of Brookfield, formerly of Norwalk, husband of the late Lillian Novak Mitchik, died Monday in the Danbury Hospital.

Born in Greenwich on April 2, 1911, the son of the late John and Marie Ranta Mitchik. Until his retirement he was the owner of John Mitchik Landscaping & Paving Co. in Norwalk. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two stepsons, Anthony Imundi of Brookfield, Robert Imundi of Clermont, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Pasciolla of Bethel; a sister, Pauline Crofwell of Norwalk; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 sisters, Anna Hiller, Emily Sandor, Mary Chutka and Susan Gustin.

Services will be held this evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, with Rev. Russell B. Greene Jr., pastor of The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, N.Y. on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Harold L. Hadden

The death of Harold L. Hadden, 80, of 27 Plumtrees Road, Bethel, husband of Marjorie Bahr Hadden, occurred at the Danbury Hospital, Saturday, July 29th.

He was born in Danbury, August 14, 1919, son of the late Lyman and Rose Horan Hadden and received his education in Danbury schools. He had lived in Bethel and Danbury all his life.

Mr. Hadden was a Small Engines Mechanic operating the Candlewood Lawn Mower Shop for over 20 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 5 sons, Ronald L. Hadden, Robert L. Hadden and Rodney L. Hadden, all of Danbury. Randall L. Hadden and Richard L. Hadden, both of Bethel; 1 daughter, Darlene Hadden of Bethel; 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury Tuesday morning at 11:00.

Interment will be in Wooster Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home 1 hour prior to the service.

Florence Bouchard

Florence E. Bouchard died at her home on Holy Street Ext. Danbury on July 31, 2000 at the age of 69. She was the wife of John F. Bouchard.

Mrs. Bouchard was born in Montgomery Center, Vt., February 26, 1931, daughter of the late Anthony and Harriett Lumbra Martell and received her education there. John and Florence moved to Danbury 31 years ago and celebrated 51 years of marriage. Florence worked as a Secretary for the J.F. Bouchard Paving Co. and also for Davis and Geck Co. of Danbury and Burndy Corp. of Bethel. She attended St. Gregory Church.

Besides her beloved husband, she is survived by her devoted children, Paulette Bouchard and her husband Jack Czyszynski of Lakeside Ca., Cheryl Wall and her husband Tom of Brookfield and Lisa Dunn and her husband Steve of Danbury; 6 grandsons, Steven and Joseph Lange, Steven, Jesse and Tyler Dunn and John Czyszynski and a granddaughter, Kylie Dunn; a brother, Donald Martell of Watertown, Ct. and a sister, Gwendolyn Martell of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory Church. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Patricia H. Nasse

Patricia H. Nasse, age 67, wife of Richard A. Nasse of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 in the Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Nasse was born in Queens, New York, March 13, 1933, daughter of the late John and Anne (Concannon) Cody. A resident of Southbury 2'BD years, she had previously lived in Ridgefield, CT for 20 years.

Mrs. Nasse was a graduate of New York University with a BS degree.

She is survived, besides her husband, by 1 son, Richard J. Nasse of Danbury, CT; 2 daughters, Patrice Gitter of Fairbanks, Alaska and Kathleen Gairing of Newtown; 1 sister, Margaret Murphy of Mineola, NY; and 6 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Rev. John Cody. C.M.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 3, 2000, 10 a.m., from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, CT and at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Southbury, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Newtown, CT. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mitchell M. Samaha

Mitchell M. Samaha, 72, of 173 Black Duck Circle, Daytona Beach, Florida, husband of Elsie (Cianfaglione) Samaha, died on Sunday, July 30, 2000 at the Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Samaha was born in Lawrence, MA, July 7, 1928, the youngest of six children of the late Michael and Mazza (Samaha) Samaha.

He moved with his family from Lawrence to Danbury at the age of two months and had been a resident of Danbury until 1977 when he moved to Worcester, MA. A resident of Worcester from 1977 until 1980 when he relocated to Brookfield and resided there until 1988 when he moved to Florida.

He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High SchoolClass of 1947. While at Danbury High School, Mr. Samaha was active in athletics especially basketball and was a member of the state champion Danbury High School team.

Mr. Samaha was a US Army Korean veteran and was a member of the US Army Basketball Team, a team that was given semi-pro status by the National Basketball Association.

In 1955, Mr. Samaha became a life insurance agent for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company and retired as a district manager in 1988.

As a Danbury resident, Mr. Samaha was a member of the Danbury Republican Town Committee, the Local Board #13, Selective Service Committee, the Lebanon American Club and of St. Anthony's Maronite Church.

The Old Timers' Athletic Association of Greater Danbury as an award recipient honored him in 1996.

Upon moving to Florida, Mr. Samaha was a member and past president of the Salaam Club of Daytona Beach and he and his wife were honored in 1990 as the Man and Woman of the Year.

Mr. Samaha's proudest joy was to be witness to his children's achievements and success and his thankfulness to those who gifted him with the opportunity to achieve his own success in life and the camaraderie associated with those opportunities.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mitchell Samaha York of Los Angeles, CA and Joseph Samaha of Pembroke Pines, FL; two daughters, Deborah Irizarry of Bethel and Cheryl Wilson of Pembroke Pines, FL; two brothers, Joseph Samaha and Maurice Samaha, both of Danbury; two stepsons, Vincent P. Kmetz of Danbury and Mark Andrew Kmetz of Daytona Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Tiffany Irizarry, Brian Velez and Scott Wilson; as well as nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, George Samaha, William Samaha and James Samaha, predeceased Mr. Samaha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Maronite Church, 17 Granville Avenue, Danbury.

Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury with full military honors.

Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Francelina (Gomes) Cabral

Francelina (Gomes) Cabral, 84, of 22 Hospital Ave., Danbury, wife of the late Ernesto DaSilva, died at Heritage Heights Health Care on Tuesday, August 1, 2000.

Born in San Miguel, Azores on November 9, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Jose and Maria do Carme Gomes. She came to the United States in 1975 and has resided in Danbury since that time. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Mrs. Cabral is survived by her sons, John Duarte of Pawtucket, R.I., Jose DaSilva of Toronto, Canada and Armando Silva of Ontario, Canada; and her daughters, Isaura Verissimo of Danbury, Emily Perreira of Georgetown, Canada, Juventina Soares of Ontario, Canada, Adriana Pacheco of Pawtucket, R.I.; and a brother, John Gomes and a sister, Juventina Gomes, both of Azores; and a sister, Dorvalina Gomes of Ontario, Canada; as well as twenty-one grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
