Bernice T. Eledge, age 82, of Jefferson City, formerly of Piscataway, NJ, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday evening, August 1, 2000 at her residence following a brief illness. She was a member of HOLY TRINITY Catholic Church. She was a member of Golden Agers and Young at Heart senior citizen clubs. She was a retired secretary from Union Carbide Corporation with 20 years of service.
Preceded in death by her husband, Alfred R. Eledge, and five brothers. Survived by, daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Bob Norton of Jefferson City; son and daughter-in-law, James and Val Eledge of Piscataway, NJ; grandchildren, Courtney and Dana Eledge of Piscataway, NJ, Michael, Wendy and Kelly Bolton of Danbury, CT, Nancy and husband David Burbine of Barrington, Rhode Island, John and wife Susie Bolton of Henderson, MN; great-grandson, David Burbine of Barrington, Rhode Island; brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Gloria Trechock of Piscataway, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Jennie Shrader of Dandridge, TN; step grandchildren, Renee and Edward Norton of Knoxville, TN, Shawn Norton of PA; step great-granddaughter, Shante Lenoir of Knoxville, TN; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral mass will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2000 at Holy Trinity Catholic with Father Patrick Garrity officiating. Interment to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Daniel Lane Bergstresser
Daniel Lane Bergstresser, 83, of 7 Hoyt Street, Danbury, husband of Elizabeth (Martin) Bergstresser, died on Wednesday morning, August 2, 2000 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Bergstresser was born in Altoona, PA, February 3, 1917, attended Altoona schools and graduated from Susquehanna College and the Gettysburg Seminary.
A resident of Danbury for the past 11 years coming from Florida, he was a former ordained minister.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Danny, Marti, Rachel, Rebekah and Susan Joy; six stepchildren, June, Rita, Debbie, Susan, Biffy and Charles; four siblings, Ben, Paul, Steve and Rachel; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; nineteen step grandchildren and one great-step grandchild.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2000, at 4 PM in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Old Park Lane, New Milford, CT.
There will be no calling hours.

Marion E. Kinsman
Marion E Kinsman, a recognized tole painter and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died Thursday, August, 3, 2000, in Harborside/Glen Hill nursing home in Danbury after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was 74. Mrs. Kinsman was a longtime resident of Bridgeport who moved to Bethel in 1997, following her husband's death.
Mrs. Kinsman was born in Bridgeport on Christmas Day, 1925, the elder of two daughters of Dr. William C. and Emily Dale Lindholm. She attended Bridgeport schools and graduated from Bassick High School and the Junior College of Connecticut, now the University of Bridgeport. While at Bassick, she met her future husband, Everett E. Kinsman, where classmates recognized them as "best looking". The couple married in 1948 after Everett's wartime service in the U.S. Navy. They were married for 49 years and had five children.
While Mrs. Kinsman devoted herself to raising her children, she worked as a medical secretary; and at the former City Trust Bank and at Newtown Town Hall. She also worked at a series of daily and weekly newspapers in Fairfield County, ending with 11 years at the Post Publishing Company as a compositor, supervisor and classified advertising manager.
In her later years, her hobby of hand painting woodenware became her vocation. Her work was recognized at a number of juried craft shows. Mrs. Kinsman loved music and dancing. She was an avid reader, devotee of the New York Times crossword puzzle and a wonderful cook, who always welcomed family and friends to her home.
She was a member of United Congregational Church, the Crafter's Guild of Connecticut and a former member of the International Typographical Union.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, G. Joy and P. Douglass Martin of Newtown; her five children: William E. and Regina Kinsman and Leslie and Richard Farrell, both of Huntington; Susan E. Kinsman and Alan N. Ponanski of East Haddam, Douglas E. and Debra Kinsman of Stratford and Kenneth D. and Michelle Kinsman of Bethel and her twelve grandchildren: Sarah, Keith, Megan, Nichole, Douglas, Daniel, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Rachel and Melissa Kinsman and Alison and Maureen Farrell. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kinsman was predeceased by her husband, a retired Bridgeport Police Officer and by her parents.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in United Congregational Church, Park and State Streets in Bridgeport, interment will be in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Nancy Keating Wain
Nancy Keating Wain, 92, of 4 High Ridge Grove, Brookfield Center, CT, passed away July 31, 2000. Born in Portumma Co. Galway, Ireland, she was the wife of the late Roy Wain and a daughter of the late Anne Bohan and John Keating of Galway, Ireland.
Nancy Wain moved to this country about 72 years ago, has been a resident of Brookfield Center for about 32 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Brookfield.
Her 2 daughters, Nancy Ann Cutler of Evansville, IN and Dorothy Gill of Branford, CT predeceased her; 3 grandchildren, Byron K. Cutler of Terre Haute, IN, Anne H. Cutler of Waltham, MA and Melissa Leach of Dallas, TX; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive her.
Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be private.
Friends are asked to omit flowers and may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, 57 James St., Danbury, in her name.
Ruth S. "Nort" Norton
Ruth S. "Nort" Norton, 83, widow of Jeremiah T. "Sharkey" Norton, who had been a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Norton was born in Danbury, CT, October 18, 1916, a daughter of the late Sidney F. and Jennie W. Murdoch Smith, and had made her home in Danbury, and was formerly of Nashville Road, Bethel. Most recently she had lived with her daughter in Danbury.
An Episcopalian, she had associated with St. Thomas' Episcopal Church while in Bethel, and had been a member of St. James' Episcopal Church, Danbury. She had worked as a psychiatric aide at Fairfield Hills State Hospital in Newtown and retired in 1974 with over 21 years of service and was an avid bingo player.
Mrs. Norton is survived by two daughters, Ruth E. Cot'E9 and her husband Roger of Danbury, and Bonny Rodger and her fianc'E9, Richard Babcock; and a granddaughter, Amanda Rodger, all of Waterbury; also, her sister, Marguerite Bacon of Brookfield; 3 step grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Contributions in her memory may be made to St. James' Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association, Liberty Street, Danbury, CT 06810.
Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury.

Eugene J.O'Connor
Eugene J. O'Connor, 53, of 26 Forest Ave., Meriden, died on August 3, 2000, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mareda (Volk) O'Connor.
Eugene J. O'Connor was born April 19, 1947 in Danbury, CT, the son of Edith (McDonnell) O'Connor of Poughquag, NY and the late Eugene J. O'Connor and had been a resident of Meriden since 1990. He was a graduate of Brewster (NY) High School, Class of 1966. He worked for the past twenty years for Perma Treat Corp. of Durham, CT.
Besides his wife, Mareda, he is survived by 2 sons: Thomas E. O'Connor and his wife Kimberly O'Connor of Durham, and Kevin O'Connor of Middletown; 2 granddaughters: Samantha and Gaelan O'Connor of Durham; 2 sisters: Linda Smith and her husband Thomas Smith of Poughquag, NY, and Carol Mandras O'Connor of Florida; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was deeply devoted to his family.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, August 5 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Corinne Curtis
Corinne Curtis, 80, longtime resident of Danbury, CT, died July 12 in Hendersonville, NC. She is survived by her husband, George, several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
While a Danbury resident, "Cori" coached Little Ladies Softball and youth bowling. She was also an avid supporter of the Danbury Animal Welfare. After moving to North Carolina, she began writing poetry and was in the process of having her first book of poetry published at the time of her death.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on August 7th at the Shuler and Luck Funeral Home in Hendersonville, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Danbury Animal Welfare, P.O. Box 971, Danbury, CT 06813.
Anna Tompkins
Anna Tompkins died at Putnam Hospital Center on August 2, 2000 at the age of 80. She was the wife of the late Leon Briggs Tompkins and lived on Kelly Ridge Road in Carmel, NY since 1948.
Mrs. Tompkins was born in Danbury July 6, 1920, daughter of the late John and Mary Brannick Koss and attended Danbury schools. She devoted her life to her home and family.
She is survived by her loving son, Jeffrey of Carmel and two sister, Mary Clifton of Caldwell, NJ and Arlene Priest of Salisbury, MD; one niece and one grand niece.
Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, CT on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Jean M. Koenig
Jean M. Koenig, 75, of 6 Farview Terrace, Danbury, wife of Howard F. Koenig, died Friday, August 4, 2000, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven.
Mrs. Koenig was born in Stamford, CT, Nov. 25, 1924, daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah (McInerney) Waterfall. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and Crandall Secretarial School.
Throughout her working career, Mrs. Koenig was employed as a bookkeeper. She had worked for Barden Corp. and the Ford Coal Company.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl I. Gallagher of Brookfield; two sisters, Evelyn Bowes of Waterbury and Ailene Washisko of Billerica, MA; two brothers, Alfred Waterfall of Torrington, CT, and Ronald J. Waterfall of Danbury; seven grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Brendan, Meghan, Matthew, Zacharey and Jennifer; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Jean, and her son, Kevin H.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. Interment of Mrs. Koenig's cremains will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Stella Mary Paradis
Stella Mary (Fitzgerald) Paradis, 73, of 1 Birchwood Terrace, Bristol, passed away at her home on Friday, August 4, 2000.
Mrs. Paradis was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, to the late John and Mary (Fowler) Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Arnold Daniel Paradis; and her three children and their families: Donald J. Paradis Sr., and his wife, Susan, who reside in Prospect, CT; Kathleen Rathjen and her husband, Fred, who reside in Proctor, VT; and Diane M. Weiss, recent widow of Tom Weiss, of Bethel; three grandsons and five granddaughters. Mrs. Paradis leaves three sisters, Bride Spurell of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Eileen Howell of Waterbury and Joan Fitzgerald of Plantsville, CT, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will take place at St. Ann Church, 215 West St., Bristol, on Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at 10 a.m. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of her family. There will be no calling hours.

Driver admits she dragged bodyof suicide victim
Charles King McFarlane
Charles King McFarlane of Ridgefield, formerly of Brookfield, died Thursday, August 8th, at his home after a long illness. He was 35 years old.
He was born Nov. 27, 1964, to Zayne Joyce King and Charles Byrne McFarlane in Fort Worth, TX. He lived with his family in Huntington, Long Island, before settling in Brookfield in 1970. In Brookfield he attended Center School, played with the local Little League team and was an active member of the Cub Scouts.
The family moved to Ridgefield in 1976. Mr. McFarlane attended Ridgefield Public Schools, where he developed and pursued many interests including trumpet, drums and horseback riding. He was an avid fishing enthusiast.
Mr. McFarlane took great pride in serving with Boy Scout Troop No. 26, where he mastered many skills and rose to the level of Senior Scout. He was also a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Ridgefield. He graduated from Staples High School in Westport in 1986.
He is survived by his parents, Zayne Joyce King McFarlane of Ridgefield and Charles Byrne McFarlane of Southbury; and 1 sister, Maureen Elizabeth McFarlane of Stamford. He will be lovingly missed by many extended relatives.
Mr. McFarlane was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Ann McFarlane.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 351 Main St., Ridgefield, with the Rev. Victoria Miller, associate rector, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.
There are no calling hours.

Richard Preston
Richard Michael Preston, age 52, of Newtown, beloved son of Joseph Michael Preston of Florida and the late Eleanor Boroczky Preston, died in his home on August 2, 2000.
Born in Bridgeport on January 17, 1948, he was a Monroe resident for most of his life, before moving to Newtown seven years ago. He was a 1966 graduate of Masuk High School, a graduate of the Hartford Airline Training School of Delta Airlines and had attended Housatonic Community College.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a sergeant during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Preston was an employee of the Curtis Packaging Co. of Sandy Hook, and was previously employed by the Perkin Elmer Co. of Norwalk.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Sarah Rebecca Preston, his stepdaughter, Nicole Vaccaro, and his former spouse, Deborah Kerma Preston, all of New York; his brothers, Michael Preston, and his wife, Ann, of Sandy Hook, and Joseph Preston of Woodbury; his sisters, Patricia Stapleton, and her husband, Vincent, of Stratford, and Ann Marie Preston of Ansonia; his stepmother, Marion Wilson Preston of Florida; his nephews, Brian Smith and Joseph and Matthew Miklus; his nieces, Charlene Vasas and her husband, Steve, and Rebecca and Shannon Preston; as well as his grandniece, Amanda Vasas.
A funeral service with full military honors will take place Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in The Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe.
The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
