Donna L. Bruno

Donna Lynn Lajoie Bruno, age 43, of Vining Road, Bethel, CT, died at home on Monday. She was the wife of Dominick R. Bruno.

Mrs. Bruno was born in White Plains, NY, April 5, 1957, a daughter of Edward and Rosemary Pomponio Lajoie of Brewster, NY. She was a resident of Bethel since 1983 and was a Cum Laude graduate of Western Connecticut State University in 1993, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She worked as an RN at the Laurelwood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Ridgefield for 6 years, the last two as Director of Nursing. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society and a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Bethel.

Besides her husband of 21 years and her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Kristen E. Bruno of Bethel; a son, Nicholas J. Bruno of Bethel; 1 brother, Vincent Lajoie of Newtown, CT; and 2 sisters, Michelle Ferrucci of Danbury and Denise Palmer of Wingdale, NY.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897-2523.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Bethel, Friday morning at 10:00. Burial will be in Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00.

Anna D'Amelio

Anna D'Amelio, 96, of Cloverleaf Drive, New Fairfield, died Monday at her home.

Mrs. D'Amelio was the wife of the late Frank D'Amelio.

She was born in Santeramo, Italy, November 12, 1903, a daughter of Lorenzo and Rosa (Tangorra) Musci.

Mrs. D'Amelio lived in New Fairfield for over 27 years and was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Jerry D'Amelio of Yorktown Heights, New York; a brother, Arthur Musci of Naples, Florida; a sister, Jenny Musci of Colorado; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Calling Hours are Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the New Fairfield Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, New Fairfield. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Queens, New York.

Edna M. Hobart

Edna M. Hobart, 76, of 28 Mountainville Avenue, Danbury, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold E. Hobart Sr.

Born in Norwalk on May 22, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Edith (Stevens) Tuttle. She was a graduate of Norwalk High School and worked for more than 25 years at the Boots Aircraft Company of Westport and then as a Machine Operator for the Burndy Corp., prior to her retirement in 1972.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Ridgeway of Danbury, Edna M. Walling of San Jose, CA and Margaret Daley of Hillsdale, NY; her son, Harold E. Hobart Jr. of Danbury; and a brother, George Tuttle of Bethel; sisters, Alice Souza of Wallingford and Sylvia Tuttle; as well as 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, LeRoy Hobart.

Funeral services will be held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Michael H. Showah

Michael H. Showah, age 59, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Marie Yacoub Showah, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport.

Born in Aleppo, Syria, he was the son of the late Habib and Nasar Showah. A resident of Trumbull since 1991, Michael was the proprietor of Mike's Market located in Bridgeport since 1996.

Survivors in addition to his devoted wife, Marie, include two daughters, Rania and Dina Showah of Trumbull; two brothers, George Showah of Trumbull and John Showah of Virginia; two sisters, Mary Showah of Danbury and Georgette Showah of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to go directly to St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church on Friday at 9 a.m. with the Archpriest Matthew George officiating the funeral rite. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Easton. Calling hours on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull line). Trisagion services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in memory of Michael Showah.

Jose Francisco

Mr. Jose Francisco, 68, of 1376 West Main St., Waterbury, died Tuesday, August 15, at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury.

He was the husband of Rita (Serra) Francisco.

Mr. Francisco was born in Danbury on September 12, 1931, son of the late Pedro and Eugenia (Carranca) Francisco. He began working as a golf course employee, construction laborer, and, for several years, as a factory employee at Uniroyal Rubber in Naugatuck. He founded a Waterbury beauty salon named Jose's House of Charm. Before long, Jose's House of Charm grew to eight locations throughout the Naugatuck Valley, employing 50 beauticians. He started a cleaning service known as Magic Maintenance. He formed Francisco Associates.

Jose Francisco was recognized as a prominent force in the Portuguese community. He was a member and past president of the Portuguese Sport Club of Waterbury.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Paul Francisco and Peter Francisco of Waterbury; a daughter, Clara Stevens of Middlebury; two sisters, Maria Eugenia Serra and Maria Cesaltina Pinto of Portugal; and six grandchildren. A sister, Maria Lourdes Almeida, is deceased.

Funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.

Calling hours are today, Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Charles Cosgrove

Mr. Charles H. Cosgrove, 81, of 483 Country Club Road, Waterbury, died Monday, Aug. 14, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Marguerite "Rita" (Orlando) Cosgrove.

Mr. Cosgrove was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Waterbury, a son of the late Henry and Emma (St. Pierre) Cosgrove. He was employed at The Waterbury Companies for several years, and was the former owner of Rita Cosgrove Dance Studio in Waterbury, for 18 years.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Besides his wife of Waterbury, he leaves a daughter, Louise Russell of Danbury; a brother, Howard P. Cosgrove of Wolcott; a sister, Helen Cosgrove of Wolcott; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A military funeral will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m. from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Blessed Sacrament Church for a mass at 9:15 a.m. Burial will be announced.

Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Marita Bergquist

Marita Bergquist, age 77, of St. George Place, Sandy Hook, CT, formerly of Rowledge Pond Road, Newtown, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at her home. She was the wife of the late Carl Bergquist.

Mrs. Bergquist was born in Bridgeport, January 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Raymond and Gertrude (Cawley) Hannan. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in New York City.

During World War II, Mrs. Bergquist served as an Army nurse with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

She was employed by the Fairfield Visiting Nurse Association for many years, and was last employed at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, until her retirement 10 years ago. Mrs. Bergquist was a resident of Newtown since 1966.

Survivors include a son, Carl B. Bergquist and his wife, Jill, of Guilford, CT; three daughters, Lynn Bergquist of Salem, MA, Cheryl Pratt and her husband, Robert, of Roxbury, CT, and Ingrid Bergquist of Newtown; a brother, Raymond Hannan of Trumbull; five grandchildren, Kirsten, Ashley and Lauren Pratt and Joshua and Taylor Bergquist; a favorite niece, Laura Reilly of Monroe, and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 18, 2000, at 9:30 a.m. from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There are no calling hours.

Carl G. Plummer

Carl G. Plummer, 68, of Danbury and Wittman, AZ, died Monday at his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Plummer was born in Redding, Feb. 28, 1932, the son of the late Gerald and Sigrid (Lindstrom) Plummer. He attended schools in Weston and Westport and graduated from the Henry Abbott Technical School, and also attended Maricopa Technical College in Arizona.

Mr. Plummer served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and worked as a mechanical designer, specializing in government contracts.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine and Marie Plummer of New Fairfield; his sons, Carl Plummer of New Milford and John Plummer of New Fairfield; as well as his sisters, Shirley Leak of Escondido, CA, and Geraldine Duffy of New Milford; his brother, Joseph Plummer of Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren, Amanda Plummer and Vincent Drone. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Helena J. Corrigan.

Memorial services will be held in the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Monday, August 21, 2000, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Marita Bergquist

Marjorie Ellingwood Pearson

Marjorie Ellingwood Pearson, 83, of Georgetown, SC and a former resident of Georgetown, CT for many years, died on June 30, 2000 in Georgetown South Carolina Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of C. Harry Pearson.

Mrs. Pearson was born in Danbury on July 2, 1916, a daughter of the late Harry H. and Katherine Ann Lynch Ellingwood. She grew up in Danbury and graduated from high school there.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Leonard D. Ellingwood of Hampton, VA.

A gathering of friends in honor of celebrating her life will occur on Saturday, August 19 at 7 p.m. in the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, CT.

Mary Blue

Mary Blue, 67, of Glen Hill Road, Danbury died at Danbury Hospital on August 12, 2000.

She was born in Martin, NC, the daughter of the late James and Hattie (Jones) Bailey.

A long time Danbury resident, she was employed by the Kimberly Clark Corp up until her illness.

Ms. Blue is survived by a son, Christopher Blue; a sister, Margaret Russell; a brother, James Briley; and four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She predeceased by a daughter, Debra; a granddaughter, Coretta; two brothers Watts Briley and Willie Moore and her sister.

Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Friday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, Thursday from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Helen M. (McGourty) Kane

Helen M. (McGourty) Kane, 76, of Knoll Crest Drive, Brookfield, died Monday, at Bridgeport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Kane.

Mrs. Kane was born in White Plains, NY, the daughter of the late James P. and Helena (Walsh) McGourty. She was a graduate of White Plains High School. She worked as a licensed Insurance Agent for various local insurance agencies for more than 40 years, retiring from the A. J. Carnall Agency of Ridgefield in 1993. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, where she was also a member of the "55 Plus Club."

Mrs. Kane is survived by her nieces; Deborah Hallenbeck, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Helena C. Dietrich of East Aurora, NY and her cousin, Mary Elizabeth Walsh Kuehn, of Rye, NY; as well as several great nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.
