Michael Steven Davon
Michael Steven Davon of Danbury, Connecticut and Cambridge, Massachusetts, son of Margaret Hahn Davon and the late George Davon, stepson of Stuart Bedrin and Marianne Davon Frankel died Saturday, August 19 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He was 36.
Born in Manhattan, Mr. Davon was a graduate of Danbury High School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Davon began his career at McKinsey & Company, and later went on to Boston Software Works. He was one of the first entrepreneurs to develop and successfully manage an on-line business, the Web-Depot.
Mr. Davon was well known for his efforts on behalf of people with Hemophilia and was on the Board of Directors of The Committee of Ten Thousand, an advocacy group for people with bleeding disorders who had contracted HIV/AIDS from contaminated blood supplies.
A member of the World Hemophilia Federation, Mr. Davon had been honored at their conference in Dublin, Ireland in 1996 for his leadership and advocacy for people with Hemophilia. He developed, financed and hosted a website for people with bleeding disorders and those who had become ill from contaminated blood products. This website was instrumental in disseminating information for those involved in global class action suits against pharmaceutical companies who knowingly produced and sold contaminated blood products.
Born with Hemophilia, Mr. Davon himself contracted HIV/AIDS from a transfusion of blood plasma in 1983 and had struggled against many severe hospitalizations to stay alive. Many of the developing AIDS drugs themselves caused life-threatening side effects. He handled each escalating and devastating symptom with dignity, intelligence and exhaustive medical research. He became an advocate for people with similar problems showing compassion and concern. Despite nearly constant pain, he always made himself available to help others.
Mr. Davon also hosted and financed a website for helping refugees from the Kosovo conflict locate missing family members.
In spite of Mr. Davon's severe and debilitating medical problems, he lived a full life enjoying the company of friends and family, knowing all too well to live each day to the fullest.
