Dominick Sorbara
Dominick A. Sorbara, 59, of New Milford, died Saturday at his home on Ridge Road. He was the husband of Josephine Santaguida.
Mr. Sorbara was born Sept. 9, 1940 in Stamford, CT, a son of the late John A. and Catherine Gallace Sorbara. He was a 27-year resident of New Milford and had worked as a truck driver for 17 years for the former Associated Food Company.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford.
Besides his wife, Mr. Sorbara is survived by two sons, John Sorbara and Joseph Sorbara, both of New Milford; two daughters, Mary Ketchin of Wingdale, N.Y., and Rose Cullen of New Milford; two sisters, Theresa Vartuli of Stamford, CT, and Susan Chappa of Westport, CT; three grandchildren, Marissa and Taylor Ketchin of Wingdale and Dominick Sorbara of New Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be conducted from the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, Tuesday morning at 9:30, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, New Milford. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Kathleen (Stephen) Peat Hoffmann
Kathleen (Stephen) Peat Hoffmann, formerly of Middleboro, Massachusetts, died suddenly on Saturday, February 26th, 2000 at the Edgewood Nursing Home, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which had been her home for the past 2 years.
Born in Dundee, Scotland, on October 30th, 1911, she and her late husband, Frank Peat, immigrated to the United States in 1930 and settled in Brooklyn, New York, where she worked for many years in New York area restaurants.
She relocated to Middleboro with her second husband, the late Conrad (Sonny) Hoffmann, where she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of Sodality of Our Lady.
Kathleen brought a sense of fun into the lives of her family and friends and enjoyed playing the piano and singing old songs. She was an avaricious reader and loved to play bingo.
She will be missed by her family; a daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Frank Morrison of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Rose Mary Peat of Danbury; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her daughter, Margaret Somers of Falmouth, Massachusetts and a grandson, Michael Somers of Falmouth.
The family will receive friends at the Ashley Funeral Home on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. preceding the funeral Mass at Sacred Heart at 10:00. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro, Mass. Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St., Middleboro, Mass.
Leo J. Whelton
Leo J. Whelton, 72, of 8 Field Crest Drive, Ridgefield, husband of the late Harriett (Roberts) Whelton, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Sunday evening February 27, 2000.
Mr. Whelton was born in South Boston, Mass., September 19, 1927, a son of the late John and Catherine (Conley) Whelton. He attended Boston schools and graduated from Boston Teachers College with a bachelor's degree and later from Fairfield University with a master's degree.
Mr. Whelton was an educator at the Greenwich Academy, Greenwich, from 1963 until 1976 and served as head of the mathematics department.
In 1976 until 1998 Mr. Whelton owned and operated Whelton Accounting in Ridgefield.
A Peacetime US Navy veteran, he was a member of St. Mary's Parish and served as a lector.
He was a resident of Ridgefield for the past 36 years coming from Willington.
He is survived by five sons, Brian J. of Stratford, John R. of Sanbornton, N.H., Paul D. of Madison, N.H., Stephen E. of Moultonboro, N.H. and Daniel T. of Henniker, N.H.; five daughters, Elaine C. Whelton of Weston, Ann F. Galvin of Danbury, Elizabeth M. Carpenter of Oakland, N.J., Catherine I. Duelfer of Millstone, N.J., and Margaret I. Pane of Bethel; a sister, Eleanore Jemison of Kennebunkport, Maine; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.
Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Thomas D. Howson
Thomas D. Howson died peacefully Thursday, February 24, 2000, under hospice care at the Morristown, N.J. home of his sister, Joan H. Clarke, of lung cancer. He was 81.
Mr. Howson was a longtime resident of both Newtown and New York City.
He was a graduate of Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, Colo., and a 1940 graduate of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
Mr. Howson attained the rank of captain while serving in the Air Corps during World War II.
After the war, he worked at United Airlines until his retirement in 1980. His wife, Anne (Fraser), whom he met in England after the war, died previously.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by two nieces, Juliet Clarke and her husband, Robert, and Susan Clarke; two nephews, David Clarke and his wife, Wendy, and Benjamin Clarke and his wife, Cynthia; four great-nieces and four great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Hospice of the Visiting Nurses Association of Northern N.J. Inc., 38 Elm St., Morristown, NJ 07960-9743. Arrangements are by Rowe-Lanterman Home for Funerals, 71 Washington St., Morristown, N.J.
Helen Duckworth
Helen Duckworth, 92, formerly of Ives Manor, Danbury, died February 26, 2000, at the Heritage Heights Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Frank Duckworth.
Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Wednesday afternoon at 12:30.
Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home Wednesday from 11:30 to the time of the service.
Contributions in Mrs. Duckworth's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Roger C. Schofield
Roger C. Schofield, 69, of 82 Bob Hill Road, Ridgefield, husband of Jean (Burriesce) Schofield died on Saturday evening, January 1, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Schofield was born in Stamford June 10, 1930, a son of the late Christian C. and Ida (Bradley) Schofield.
He attended Stamford schools, was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was an Electric Motor and Pump Repairman for the Phillips Electric Motor and Pump Company of Bridgeport and formerly of Norwalk.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past 28 years coming from Norwalk, Mr. Schofield enjoyed model railroads, camping and travel.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by a son, Gary P. Schofield of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Leslie A. Spaulding of Montpelier, Vt.; two sisters, Barbara B. Speer of Croydon, N.H. and Linda S. Lee of York, Pa. as well as four grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield with Rev. Gary R. Evans, officiating.
Interment will take place in Fairfield Memorial Park, Stamford.

Ruth A. Braginetz
Mrs. Ruth A. Braginetz, 79, of Brookfield, died at the Danbury Hospital Sunday morning. She was the wife of the late Walter A. Braginetz.
Born in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. April 14, 1920, daughter of the late George W. and Ethel Cropsey Kiernan, she lived most of her life in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. and attended Hastings-on-Hudson School and was a high school graduate and member of the Hastings-on-Hudson Fife and Drum Corps.
Mrs. Braginetz was employed as a Telephone Operator for New York Telephone for 30 years, retiring prior to moving to Brookfield 17 years ago.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield, American Association of Retired Persons, Telephone Pioneers of America, The Danbury Senior Center and New Beginnings.
Surviving are three daughters, Darlene Carr of Kissimmee, Fla., Kathy Hughes of Brookfield and Barbara Gunther of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; a brother, George Kiernan; six grandsons; a granddaughter; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield, Thursday at a time to be announced.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.

George Edward McKay Sr.
George Edward McKay Sr., 72, of 88 Sunny Valley Road, New Milford, husband of the late Marie West, died Saturday at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. McKay was born in New York City Feb. 22, 1927, a son of the late Harold and Josephine Feuz McKay.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He had been a member of the New Milford Police Department from 1972 until his retirement in 1989. He was also a lifetime member of the Andrew B. Mygatt Post 1672 VFW of New Milford.
He is survived by four sons, George E. McKay Jr., Joseph A. McKay and Steven M. McKay, all of New Milford and Frederick J. McKay of Derby; two daughters, Janet Carlson of Tucson, Ariz. and Nancy A. McKay of New Milford; a brother, Harold McKay of Morganville, N.J.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Funeral will take place Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford to St. Francis Xavier Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Edward H. Keeler
Edward H. Keeler, 92, of 268 North Street, Ridgefield, husband of the late Jane (Doris) Keeler, died on Sunday morning, January 2, 2000 at the Bethel Healthcare Center, Bethel.
Mr. Keeler was born in Ridgefield, August 7, 1907, a son of the late Howard and Sarah (Elliott) Keeler. He attended local schools and was a retired professional chauffeur.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Mr. Keeler is survived by two daughters, Margaret M. Keeler of Ridgefield and Doris A. Greene and her husband, Norman of Charlotte, N.C. as well as a grandson, Mark E. Greene. Mr. Keeler was predeceased by a daughter, Helen J. Keeler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.
There will be no calling hours.

Caroline Helen Murphy
Caroline Helen Murphy, 72, of 4 Howe Road, New Milford, wife of William J. Murphy Jr., died Sunday at New Milford Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Mew Milford August 23, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline Campbell Yoblonski. She was a graduate of New Milford High School. She had been an avid bingo player and was well-known for her love of crafts and sewing.
She is survived by five daughters, Christine Farrell, Patricia Malumphy and Maureen Block, all of New Milford, Colleen Murphy of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Kathleen Murphy of Danbury. She was predeceased by a son, William J. Murphy III. She is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Polzun, Josephine Bryer and Dorothy Doyle, all of New Milford; two brothers, Walter Yoblonski of Sherman and John Yoblonski of New Milford; seven grandchildren, Lynda Arnold, Brenda Farrell, Mikaela and Julia Malumphy, John Gereg V, Michael and Keleigh Block; and two great-grandchildren, Cyrissa Mazurak and Amber Farrell, also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford. Interment in Center Cemetery, New Milford.
