Veronica Margarita Bell Simonpietri, 54, of Woodbury, wife of Andre C. Simonpietri, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital.

Veronica was born December 29, 1944 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, daughter of Kenneth C. and Emily Margarita Schleimer Bell. She married Andre Simonpietri in Buenos Aires in 1971 and moved to California where they spent five years before moving to Newtown. As a navy wife and raising two girls, it took her 14 years and several colleges to earn her BA degree in English.

Her teaching career began as a religious education teacher at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newtown. After getting her diploma, she taught Adult Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) in Danbury and other surrounding towns until her disease forced her to take a leave of absence this year.

Remembering the trials and experiences she had as a foreign born, new arrival in the U.S., she also taught life skills to newly relocated foreign-born personnel who moved into this area, teaching them how to use the library, vote, get a driver's license, register for Social Security, and other items which Americans learn in Civics Class. Her teaching and her family were her pride. She was past-president of The International Club of Newtown as well as an avid gardener, painter and entertainer, always having a delightful gathering for a meal.

Besides her husband of Woodbury and parents of Argentina, she is survived by two daughters, Lt. Marie Joelle Simonpietri (USN) of Honolulu, Hawaii and Chantal Emilie Simonpietri of Crested Butte, Colo.; and her brothers, Ronald, Edward, Daniel and Charles Bell, all of Buenos Aires.
