Susanne A. Henkel
Susanne Arndt Henkel, 61, of 373 Kent Rd., New Milford, died Sunday at her home. She is the wife of John M. Henkel.
Mrs. Henkel was born in Norwalk on March 23, 1938, a daughter of the late Walter J. and Susan Maddock Arndt. She was raised in Redding and Norwalk, graduating from Norwalk High School and then from Katherine Gibbs School of Business. Later in life while raising her children, she returned to the classroom and became a Realtor. Mrs. Henkel was a CCD teacher at St. Francis Xavier Church, a Brownie and Cub Scout Leader and a sports coach.
Besides her husband of 39 years, she is survived by a son, John E. Henkel and his wife, Kathleen of New Milford; a daughter, Karen Henkel-Kennedy and her husband, Kevin Kennedy of New Milford; two brothers, Walter Arndt of Easton and Edward Arndt of Jupiter, Fla.; two sisters, Matilda LaTulipe of Shelton and Laurie Taylor of Rich Square, N.C.; five grandchildren, Shannon Kennedy, Bridget Kennedy, Rory Kennedy, Jessica Bouwman and Erika Henkel. She was predeceased by a sister, Sharon Shersty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Cremation will be at Connecticut Crematory, Stamford.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Rd., New Milford.
Genevieve Wilmot
Genevieve Wilmot, 77, a lifelong area resident and widow of Arthur Wilmot, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Wilmot was born in New Milford, February 8, 1922, a daughter of the late Junior Francis and Florence Slocum Bennett and had made her home in New Fairfield for most of her life. She had developed a lifetime passion for food preparation and had operated a restaurant on Route 37 for many years. After closing the restaurant she worked as an institutional cook, concluding at the kitchen of Mediplex of Danbury.
Mrs. Wilmot had been a member of the New Fairfield Congregational Church for many years.
She is survived by three daughters, Donna Wilson of Warren, Sandy VanVulkenburg of Moneta, Va. and Trudy A. Emory of New Fairfield; a sister, June Nette of California; and eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the New Fairfield Funeral Home and will conclude with interment in the Memorial Garden at the New Fairfield Congregational Church.

Gail B. Mahana
Gail B. Mahana, 58, of 2004 Hancock Drive, Danbury, formerly of New Fairfield, died on Wednesday morning, January 12, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Mahana was the wife of the late Robert C. Mahana.
She was born in New Hyde Park, New York, January 6, 1942, a daughter of the late Arthur C. and Dorothy (Walker) Becker. She attended New Hyde Park Schools, graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Colorado.
A resident of the area for the past thirty-two years coming from New York, Mrs. Mahana was a special education instructor at the New Fairfield High School.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine A. Mahana of Bethel; two sons, Robert S. Mahana of New Fairfield and Brent C. Mahana of New Orleans, La. and a sister, Carole A. Barrett of Bound Brook, New Jersey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received in the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Maria J. Mor
Maria J. Mor died unexpectedly at Mediplex of Danbury on January 10, 2000 at the age of 73. She made her home at 134 Deer Hill Avenue in Danbury since coming here in 1998.
Miss Mor was born in Havana, Cuba, daughter of the late Arturo and Josefa Rodriguez Mor. She graduated First in her class and Valedictorian from the University of Havana in 1952. Miss Mor was a Doctor of Pharmacy and a Pharmaceutical Research Scientist. She came to this country in 1978 and settled in the Bronx, New York.
She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Maria A. Marcote and Mercedes M. Porta with whom she made her home and her nephew, Alfredo C. Porta and his family of Danbury. She also is survived by several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private and burial in St. Raymond Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph S. Piskura
The death of Joseph S. Piskura, of Charcoal Ridge East, New Fairfield, occurred at his home Wednesday with his family at his side. He was the husband of Julia H. Dominakaus Piskura.
Born in Brookfield April 5, 1918, son of the late Steven and Catherine Sackso Piskura, he attended Brookfield schools and the Danbury Trade School. He moved later to Danbury and to New Fairfield in 1956.
Mr. Piskura was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Mediterranean Theatre with the Army.
He was a self-employed Custom Builder, founder of J.S.P. Builders, Inc. for over 55 years and was still active at the time of his death. Most of his custom homes and buildings were in Candlewood Isle, New Fairfield. As a young man, he had worked for Ralph DeRubertis, Modern Builders and for Whitlock Builders before founding his own business. He was also proficient in the reading and design of blueprints and was especially fond of renovating older houses.
Mr. Piskura was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, Veterans of Foreign Wars, formerly of the Polish American Club and the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed travel with is family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jolene Ann Zaborowski and her husband, Joseph M. of Bethel, three brothers, John M. Piskura of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., James T. Piskura of Bethel and Adam Piskura of Danbury; two sisters, Mary Zuchack of Brookfield and Susan Gouveia of Westchester, N.Y.; a step granddaughter, Leighann Hnyda and her husband, William of New Milford; a step great-grandson, Trevor Joseph Hnyda and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, William, Albert and Frank Piskura.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield Saturday morning at 10:00.
Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Peter T. Milano
Peter T. Milano, 78, of 11 Outpost Lane, Ridgefield, husband of the late Agnes (Opstad) Milano, died on Tuesday evening, January 11, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Milano was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., July 16, 1921, a son of the late Thomas and Christine (Montaldo) Milano.
He attended Yonkers, N.Y. schools, was a World War II US Army veteran where he served as a medic in France and Germany and was decorated with the Purple Heart three times.
Mr. Milano was a retired insurance executive of the American International Group/A.I.G.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past ten years coming from Spring Hill, Florida, Mr. Milano was a member of St. Mary's Church where he served as a Religious Education Instructor, and Altar server instructor, a member of the visitation ministry and was installed by Bishop Edward M. Egan as an Acolyte.
He is survived by a son, Peter T. Milano Jr. of Alpharetta, Ga., a daughter, Karen DeCecchis of Ridgefield; three brothers, Thomas Milano, Frank Milano and Christopher Milano; a sister, Laura Milano; as well as four grandchildren, Paul, Daniel, Peter III and Jason.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Milano and Michael Milano.
A Concelebrated Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.
Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Mr. Milano's body will be transferred and received at St. Mary's Church on Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Lee R. Phillips
The death of Lee R. Phillips, of Boulevard Drive, Danbury, occurred at the Danbury Hospital Tuesday, January 5, 2000. He was 65 years of age.
Born in Pawling, N.Y., November 7, 1934, he was the son of Isidore Simonelli of Wilbraham, Mass. and the late Ada Osborn Simonelli. He lived in Fairfield as a young man and was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, moving later to Monroe and to Danbury 20 years ago.
Mr. Phillips had been employed in the Dairy Industry for 35 years retiring in 1996 from Marcus Dairy of Danbury after 20 years of service. He had also worked for Beechmont Dairy, Bridgeport and the Borden's Dairy.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local #677 and of the Moose Lodge of Danbury where he served as Secretary and Administrator for 15 years for which he was honored at a Testimonial Dinner given by the Lodge. Mr. Phillips loved his free time which he enjoyed with his grandchildren and family and was an avid reader and Cook and enjoyed his hobby of raising tropical fish.
Besides his father, he is survived by nine children, David Phillips of Boston, Mass., Richard Phillips and his wife, Millie of Monroe, Bruce Phillips of Crozet, Va., Colette Remillard and her husband, Steve of Newtown, Darlene Phillips of Ansonia, Christopher Phillips of Norwalk, Craig Phillips and his wife, Amy of Sarasota, Fla., Brad Phillips of Monroe and Darcy Phillips of Ansonia; a sister, Sandra Gilbertie and her husband, John of Wilbraham, Mass.; his grandchildren, Hunter Phillips, Nicole and Tyler Remillard; nieces, Kim Nuzzo and her husband, Mike, Laura Mack and her husband, Jim, Tracey Gilbertie, Christine Santamaria, his goddaughter and her husband, Ray.
Funeral services were held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Saturday, January 8th, with the Rev. Daniel Crockett, officiating.
Interment was in St. Peter Cemetery.

C. Hubert Vail
C. Hubert Vail, 85, of 417 Savage Farm Road, Ithaca, New York, passed away on January 10, 2000 after a brief illness. He was born to Lenore (Zangerle) and Arthur H. Vail Sr. in North Salem, N.Y. on July 31, 1914. Hubert married Charlotte (Dredger) Vail on August 14, 1937 in Woodmere, N.Y.
Mr. Vail was a fourth generation partner of Vail's Grove, Inc., a large dairy farm, golf course and summer residence community in Westchester and Putnam Counties, New York. Mr. Vail graduated from North Salem High School, The Choate School in Wallingford and Cornell University class of 1937 in Ithaca, N.Y. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity.
Mr. Vail was a dedicated member and past president of the Westchester County Extension Service, past presidents of the Brewster Grange and the Pomona Grange, as well as an active participant in both state and national Grange. He was a past president of the Putnam County Kiwanis Club and a founding member of the Putnam-Westchester 4-H Club. Hubert was a lifelong parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem, receiving the Rector's Cross for his many years of quiet, faithful dedicated service. Hubert and Charlotte were longtime members of the Putnam Prancers Square Dance Club and the Charter Oak Airstream Club. For many years they wintered at Rambler's Rest in Venice, Fla.
Mr. Vail was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Arthur H. Vail Jr. and his grandson, Christopher Vail Booth. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, their four children, Peter and Lyn (Phillips) Vail of Kinderhook, N.Y., Walter and Kathleen (Robinson) Vail of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Anne (Vail) and John Seeley Booth Jr. of Pine City, N.Y. and Mary Ellen (Vail) and Steven LaRocca of North Salem, N.Y.; grandchildren, Peter Jr. and Megan (Preston) Vail, Lauren (Vail) and Richard Boretti, John Booth III, Marianne Dait, Timothy Booth, Jennifer Vail and Benjamin Boncrantz, Meredith Vail, Jason LaRocca, Jonathan LaRocca and Andrew LaRocca; great-grandchildren, Susan Boretti, James Boretti, Michael Vail and Katherine Vail.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2000 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem, N.Y. Interment to follow at June Cemetery, North Salem, N.Y. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, N.Y. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Hubert gave many wonderful and energetic years to his family, his community, his church and his chosen vocation as a dedicated dairy farmer. This warm, soft-spoken, humble man possessed a keen sense of humor, a quick mind and a physical and emotional strength admired and respected by many friends and relatives.

Billie June (Turner) Davenport
Billie June (Turner) Davenport of West Redding, the wife of forty years to James M. Davenport Sr., died Wednesday.
Mrs. Davenport was born in Anderson, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Frida Turner Coulter. A graduate of St. Margaret McTernan School of Waterbury, she had represented the State as Miss Connecticut in the 1958 Miss America Pageant and was one of the top ten finalists, and had won the talent award for ballet at the Atlantic City Competition. Also in 1958, she served as Queen of the Great Danbury State Fair. She was a loving wife, mother and "Grandmother Goodie" and had been a homemaker and avid gardener.
She is survived by her five children; daughter, Leslie D. Socci and her husband, Vincent of Bethel; son, James M. Davenport Jr. and his wife, Anne Marie of Brookfield; son, Jeffrey J. Davenport and his wife, Lisa of Bethel; son, Peter S. Davenport and his wife, Kristy of Sandy Hook; and daughter, Terri D. Shupert and her husband, R. Scott of Natick, Mass. "Goodie" will be missed by her 13 grandchildren and all her loved ones.
A private gathering will take place at her home with the family only.
There will be no calling hours or funeral.
Friends are asked to plant a bush or tree or flowers, anywhere, in her name.
Frieda Mock
Frieda Mock died January 13, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital at the age of 90. She lived at 20 Morris Street in Danbury.
Mrs. Mock was born in Danbury January 25, 1909, daughter of the late Jacob and Suzanna (Haitsch) Haitsch and received her education in Danbury Schools. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She spent most of her life as a Hairdresser and operated Frieda's Beauty Shop in Danbury, retiring at the age of 70.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mock was predeceased by her daughter, Charlene Mock who died in November of 1998.
Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, West St., Danbury on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Wehmeier, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday after 2 p.m. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 32 West St., Danbury, CT 06810.
