Charlotte M. Meehan

Charlotte M. Meehan, 66, of Bayberry Hill Road, Ridgefield, died on Monday morning, July 3, 2000, at the Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Francis W. Meehan.

Mrs. Meehan was born in New York, New York, September 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Richard and Delia (Ahearn) Coleman. She attended New York schools.

A resident of Ridgefield for the past 35 years coming from Bergenfield, New Jersey, she attended St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.

Two sons, Francis Meehan of Redding and William Meehan of Fort Ann, N.Y.; a daughter, Kathleen M. Meehan of Ridgefield; a sister, Kay Dye of New York, N.Y.; as well as seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, survive her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 6th, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Memorials in Mrs. Meehan's memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western CT, 30 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

Jodi Leigh Williams

Jodi Leigh Williams, age 33, of New Milford, died at New Milford Hospital on Friday. She is the wife of Rodney A. Williams Sr.

Mrs. Williams was born April 9, 1967 in Saranac Lake, New York. She has been a resident of New Milford for 13 years. Mrs. Williams enjoyed caring for her three children and doing needlework. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, Lake Placid, New York.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Williams is survived by her father, Carlton Abbott and his wife Sandra, Sebastian, Fla.; her mother, Thelma Burnham, Lake Placid, N.Y.; a son, Rodney A. Williams Jr.; two daughters, Lacey and Brandie Williams, all of New Milford; two brothers, Art Abbott, Phoenix, Ariz. and Glen Taylor, Toronto, Canada; seven sisters, Laurie Barker, Cave Creek, Ariz., Ellen DeCecco, Virginia Beach, Va., Carla Lacey, Bloomingdale, N.Y., Wendy Sekulovski, Toronto, Canada, Kim Spafford, Burlington, Vt., Shelby Ratelle, Sebastian, Fla. and Denise Frederick, Lake Placid, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will take place in Lake Placid, New York at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in Town of North Elma Cemetery, North Elma, New York.

Family will receive friends in the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m.

Lillian Stone Shannon

Lillian Stone Shannon, a seventh generation resident of Merryall, passed away on 1 July 2000 in her 100th year of life. She is joyfully reunited with her husband Henry S. Shannon, her father William D. Stone, mother Ella Hall Stone, three brothers and two sisters.

Born on 16 December 1900, she graduated from New Milford High School in 1919. She enjoyed her work in the Connecticut State Legal System for fifty years, much of it for the Chief Superior Court Judge in Bridgeport. She was a member of the Merryall Chapel.

Lillian Shannon is survived by three nephews, Roger H. Stone of Strafford, New Hampshire, Peter B. Stone and Duane W. Stone of New Milford; a niece, Lucille S. Cronin of Brookfield; as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews, along with their families. Lillian was very grateful for her many caring friends.

Respecting her wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family requests that donations be made to the Merryall Chapel, c/o Nancy Jones, Butter Brook Hill, New Milford, CT or the Lower Merryall Cemetery Association, c/o Duane Stone, 19 Chapel Hill Road, New Milford, CT.

Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, is in charge of arrangements.

Victor Gene Courtway

Victor Gene Courtway, 71, of 9 Reynolds Ridge, Bethel, died Monday, July 3, 2000 at his home. He was the husband of Sylvia Gilpin Gill Courtway.

Born in San Bernardino, Calif., December 12, 1928, he was a son of the late Anthony B. and Mary E. (Anthony) Courtway. He resided in New York City prior to moving to Bethel in 1963.

Mr. Courtway was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. He was a self-employed Purveyor at the time of his retirement.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his former wife, Anna Lamp; his children, J. Keith Courtway, Jamie Grace Courtway MD, Peter K. Courtway and Karyn C. Palanzo; his stepchildren, Sandra Macauley, Leslie Shaboo, Joseph Gill and Diane Bucchanan; as well as numerous loving grandchildren.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western CT, 30 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin de Knipp

Alvin de Knipp, 88, of Ball Pond Road East, New Fairfield, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at Mediplex of Danbury.

Mr. de Knipp was the husband of Kathalyn (Schubert) de Knipp.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 13, 1911, a son of William S. and Agnes (von Kuic) de Knipp.

Mr. de Knipp was a tool and die maker for the Barden Corporation and also played on their softball team before retiring in 1975.

He resided in New Fairfield for over 55 years and was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church. Mr. de Knipp was a founding member of the Hollywyle Park Gun Club and the Hidden Valley Nature Center and was a member of the New Fairfield Parks and Recreation. He was also a hunting safety instructor.

Besides his wife Kathalyn, he is survived by his son, Frank de Knipp of Moriches, N.Y.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, Connecticut 06897.

Calling hours: Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Fairfield Funeral Home, Route 37 at Cottontail Road, New Fairfield.

Services: Thursday at 8 p.m. at the New Fairfield Funeral Home.

Raymond J. Espitee

Raymond James Espitee, 86, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., died July 2 at the Integrated Health Services of Palm Bay, Palm Bay, Fla., after a prolonged illness.

Born in New Milford, Conn., April 16, 1913, he lived in New Milford the greater part of his life, before moving to Florida.

He worked for many years as a serviceman with the Connecticut Light & Power Co., retiring in 1974.

He was a communicant of St. Sebastian Catholic in Sebastian, Fla., and had been a member of Housatonic Council No. 40, Knights of Columbus in New Milford.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Lescrynski) Espitee, a son, Philip R. Espitee and a brother, Richard Espitee, all of Barefoot Bay; two sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of North Naples, Fla., and Evelyn Zimlinghas of Dover Plains, N.Y.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, to St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Virginia M. Osborn

Virginia M. Osborn, age 70, wife of the late Glenn M. Osborn, of 14 Juniper Road, Newtown, Conn., died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Abbott Manor Convalescent Home, Waterbury, Conn. She was born in Portchester, N.Y., July 25, 1929, daughter of the late Matthew and Mina (Edward) McShane.

Mrs. Osborn was a graduate of Greenwich High School. A resident of Newtown since 1966, she was employed as a clerk in the Town of Newtown Finance Office for 20 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women's Club of Newtown.

She is survived by three sons, Frederick Garnett Osborn of Southbury, Edward Maver Osborn and Glenn McShane Osborn, both of Newtown; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Osborn, Garrett Matthew Osborn, Alexandra McShane Osborn and Erin Spencer Osborn.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions in her memory will be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Arthur J. Sullo Jr.

Arthur J. Sullo Jr., 77, of Danbury, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Julia (Corbett) Sullo.

Born in New York City August 12, 1922, he was a son of the late Arthur and Helen (Leahy) Sullo. He was a graduate of All Hollows High School, Bronx, N.Y. and he served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Artillery during World War II.

Mr. Sullo was the proprietor of two retail stores in Danbury and was a Danbury resident for the last 34 years.

His survivors include his sons, Arthur P. Sullo and Brian Sullo of Danbury; and his daughters, Kim Sullo and Lillian Sullo Clarkson, of Danbury and Julie Micone of Oceanside, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Lee Ann Clarkson.

Funeral services will be private.

Contributions in his memory may be made to All Hollows High School, 111 East 164th Street, Bronx, NY 10452.

Peter B. Dabrowski

Peter P. Dabrowski, 81, of 61 Park Avenue, Danbury, husband of Jennie (Boryczka) Dabrowski, died on Wednesday morning, July 5, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

Mr. Dabrowski was born in Winber, Pa., April 4, 1919, a son of the late George and Anna Dabrowski. He attended Winber schools.

A tool and die maker, Mr. Dabrowski was last employed by the Burndy Corporation first at their New York, N.Y. location and later at the Bethel location. He retired in 1984 after 33 years of employment.

Upon retirement, Mr. Dabrowski served as a mentor in the industrial arts division of the Henry Abbott Technical School of Danbury.

A resident of Danbury since 1973 coming from New York, N.Y., he was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club, the McGivney Council #29, Knights of Columbus, the Mill Plain Volunteer Fire Department, AARP and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church as well as its Holy Name Society, all of Danbury.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by a son, Stephen P. Dabrowski and his wife Deanna of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Stanley Dabrowski and Edward Dabrowski, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Mary Farkas of Flushing, Queens, N.Y. and Josephine Tenza of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Dabrowski and David Dabrowski; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted from the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, on Saturday morning at 9:15 am and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mabel J. Smith

Mabel J. Smith, age 98, of Patterson, N.Y., widow of James Edwin Smith Sr., died July 5, 2000 at the Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Holmes, N.Y. after a long illness.

She was born May 31, 1902 in the Bronx, N.Y. Her formal education was in the Bronx and Carmel schools and she had been a resident of Patterson for over 50 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Carmel post VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married on April 3, 1923 and he died September 16, 1978.

She is survived by one son, James Edwin Smith Jr. of Pawling, N.Y.; two daughters, Kathleen Campbell of Jerico, Vt. and Helen Miller of Southbury; 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Walter and Donald Smith and one daughter, Shirley O'Neill.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, N.Y. Interment in Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, N.Y. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Cathryn B. Carlson

Cathryn Marie Brophy Carlson, age 88, of New Milford, died Tuesday surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Russell V. Carlson, a former First Selectman of New Milford.

Mrs. Carlson was born on December 2, 1911, in Amenia, N.Y., a daughter of the late Richard J. and Margaret Gordon Brophy. She was raised in New Milford and was a graduate of New Milford High School. In 1927, she was crowned as the first Miss New Milford. Mrs. Carlson was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church and a member of the Confraternity of the Rosary. She was a loving mother and grandmother who devoted her time to her family and vegetable garden.

Recently, Mrs. Carlson was instrumental in the development of the New Milford Hospital Regional Cancer Center when she went to Hartford to testify that area residents needed to have treatment available closer to their homes.

She is survived by her children, Russell G. Carlson and his wife, Linda; Ronald V. Carlson and his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Sheila Smead and her husband, Robert, all of New Milford; a sister, Margaret Moon of Youngstown, N.Y.; 9 grandchildren, Russell G. Carlson II, Donald J. Carlson, Robin S. Carlson, Derrick S. Carlson, Cathryn S. Cable, Kimberly M. Smead, Robert A. Smead II, Mikael T. Carlson and Kristina L. Carlson; 12 great-grandchildren; and one niece, Ann Given.

Memorials may be made to: New Milford Hospital Regional Cancer Center, 21 Elm St., New Milford, CT 06776.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Interment will be at Center Cemetery, New Milford.

The family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Rd., New Milford on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
