Nikolai Oun
Nikolai Oun, 85, of 5 Pondfield Road, New Fairfield, began his new journey on Wednesday, July 5, 2000.
A native of Estonia, Mr. Oun was born November 4, 1914, and moved to New York in August of 1930, where he had made his home, until moving to New Fairfield in 1957. Following service with the United States Navy in World War II, he developed a career as a carpenter and house framer in lower Fairfield County.
Mr. Oun is survived by a son, Harry K. Oun of New Fairfield; 2 daughters, Phyllis Scarpone of New Milford and Janet Oun of Burlington, Vt.; his sister, Nadia Lemet of Bethel; 5 grandchildren, Dana M. Gratto of Ft. Myers, Fla., Michael K. Oun of Gainsville, Fla., Nikolai J. Oun of Naugatuck, Reeta-Kristine Oun and Alexsandra Oun, both of Burlington, Vt.; 2 great-grandchildren, Justine and Jared Gratto; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ella A. Oun; his son, Robert Oun; and his grandson, Jarrod Oun.
A funeral will be held at the New Fairfield Funeral Home, Route # 37 at Cottontail Road, New Fairfield, on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday after 10:00 a.m.
Raymond J. Espitee
Raymond James Espitee, 86, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., died July 2 at Integrated Health Services of Palm Bay, Palm Bay, Fla., after a prolonged illness. He was the husband of Mary (Lescrynski) Espitee.
He was born Aug. 16, 1913, and had lived at 214 Aspetuck Ridge Road until his retirement from Connecticut Light & Power in 1974. After his retirement, he and his wife lived in Fellsmere, Fla., and five years ago, they moved to Barefoot Bay.
Mr. Espitee was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, Fla., and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus in New Milford.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Espitee; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Joyce Espitee, of Barefoot Bay (formerly of Aspetuck Ridge Road); two grandchildren, Philip (and Tracey) Espitee of New Milford and Dawn (and Barry) Siepmann of Falls Village; five great-grandchildren, Michael and R.J. Siepmann and Taylor, Rebecca and Austin Espitee; one brother, Richard Espitee, Barefoot Bay; and two sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of North Naples, Fla; and Evelyn Zimlinghas of Dover Plains, N.Y.
A memorial mass will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, Route 109, New Milford, with interment at St. Francis Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Betty L. Palmer
Betty Louise Collier Scott Palmer, of Danbury, died Monday at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph Palmer and John D. Scott.
Mrs. Palmer was born in Bethel, a daughter of the late Allan and E. Frances Grumman Collier and had been a lifelong area resident.
She is survived by a son, John A. Scott of Lakeside, Conn.; a daughter, Sylvia Scott Scalzo of Putnam Valley, N.Y.; 2 brothers: Allan Collier and William Collier, both of Bethel; 2 half brothers, Larry Collier and Allan Collier, both of Maryland; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Besides her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Richard Scott and a brother, Richard Collier.
The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Friday morning at 11:00. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Bethel.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, during the hour preceding the service on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Rita P. Waldeck
Rita P. (Brosz) Gleason Waldeck, 81, of 16 Woodland Road, Westfield, Mass., died Wednesday at home.
Born in Danbury, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Heitch) Brosz, she lived there for many years. She moved to Delray Beach, Florida in 1956 and to Westfield in 1981. She was a telephone operator for New England Telephone in Danbury for over 25 years, retiring in 1956. She was a volunteer at the Center for Optimum Care Nursing Home, a member of the YWCA and St. John's Lutheran Church.
Her first husband, Robert M. Gleason, died in 1966 and her second husband, Lester E. Waldeck, died in February.
She leaves a daughter, Sharyn G. Dahn of West Newbury, Mass.; a brother, Walter Brosz of Danbury; a sister, Helen Dailey of Clermont, Fla.; and a grandson, Paul Dahn of South Boston, Mass.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., and in St. John's Lutheran Church, 60 Broad St., both in Westfield, at 2:30. Burial Monday at 11 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Danbury. Calling hours are Sunday, 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael G. West
Michael G. West, age 78, husband of Rose (Barber) West of Elizabeth Circle, Walnut Tree Village, Sandy Hook, formerly of Carmel, N.Y., died Thursday, July 6, 2000 at his home. He was born in Swinnemunde, Germany October 25, 1921. Mr. West was educated in various European Universities.
Mr. West was employed by Standard Register Co. as a Technical Engineer on Mainframe Computers. He retired in 1983.
Michael was a loving, gentle and deeply honest man. He loved music, literature, the study of human nature, philosophy and the Bible.
Long active in the Big Brother program, Mr. West was instrumental in starting a one-on-one program.
Mr. West is survived, besides his wife, by 1 brother, Fritz Wodetzki and his wife Anneliese of Germany; a brother-in-law, Donald Barker and his wife Maria of Roxbury; also 8 nieces; 1 nephew; 3 great nieces; 2 great nephews; 1 great great nephew; and 1 great great niece.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 8, 2000, 9 a.m., from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, N.Y. Friends may call Friday, July 7, 2000 at the funeral home 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Tekla M. Wright
Tekla M. Silakowski Wright, age 77, of 136 Grassy Plain St., Bethel, a devoted wife and mother, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday. She was the wife of William Wright.
Mrs. Wright was born in Queens, N.Y., a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Lipinski Silakowski and had been a resident of Bethel for over 50 years. She was a retired employee of the Eaton Corporation in Bethel where she had worked for over 20 years. More recently she had volunteered her time at the Bethel Town Hall.
Besides her husband of 58 years, she is survived by three sons, William R. Wright of Chapel Hill, N.C., James M. Wright of Fairfield, Calif., Bryan Wright of Bethel; five daughters, Ellen Bigelow of Redding, Anne M. Hugyo of Newtown, Barbara R. Wright of Salt Lake City, Utah, Phyllis Beardsley of Bethel, and Madeline Burke of Bethel; as well as eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Shrine, 512 W. Saratoga, Baltimore, MD 21201.
The funeral service will be conducted from the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Saturday morning at 9:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Danbury at 10:00. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30.
Kirsten Ann Andrews
Kirsten Ann Andrews, 46, of Redding, wife of Lewis M. Andrews, died Wednesday, July 5th in Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Andrews was born in Ontario, Canada and has been a resident of Redding for the past twelve years. She was a graduate of Havergal College, a private preparatory school in Ontario. She received her Bachelors degree from the University of Toronto and her degree in Nursing from Conestoga College of Nursing in Kitchener. Mrs. Andrews is a member of the United Methodist Church of Westport and a Sunday School teacher at the church.
Survivors in addition to her husband include one daughter, Katherine Andrews and one son, Zachary Andrews, both of Redding; her father and mother, Richard and Laurette Parsons Hilborn of Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Richard Hilborn and Michael Hilborn, both of Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Andrews was also predeceased by one sister, Karen Chaplin.
Memorial services will take place at 3:00, Sunday, July 9, at the United Methodist Church of Westport, 49 Weston Rd., Westport.

Virginia McShane Osborn
Virginia McShane Osborn, age 70, wife of the late Glenn M. Osborn, of 14 Juniper Road, Newtown, Conn., died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Abbott Manor Convalescent Home, Waterbury, Conn. She was born in Portchester, N.Y., July 25, 1929, daughter of the late Matthew and Mima (Edward) McShane.
Mrs. Osborn was a graduate of Greenwich High School. A resident of Newtown since 1966, she was employed as a clerk in the Town of Newtown Finance Office for 20 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women's Club of Newtown.
She is survived by four sons, Frederick Garrett Osborn of Southbury, Edward Maver Osborn and Glenn McShane Osborn, both of Newtown, and Russell Matthew Osborn of North Brooksville, Maine; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Osborn, Garrett Matthew Osborn, Alexandra McShane Osborn and Aaron Spencer Osborn.

Michael G. Chaney
Michael G. Chaney, 52, of 27 West Lane, Ridgefield, died Monday at his home unexpectedly of natural causes.
Mr. Chaney was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on May 13, 1948, a son of the late Gene D. and Winifred Beckenbaugh Chaney. He attended Indiana University and received his BS in Education from Holyoke College.
The former owner and President of Activated Carbon Resources in Ridgefield, Mr. Chaney was most recently a manager for Zinkan Industries of Ohio.
A 20 year member of the Roswell Lee Samuel Osgood Masonic Lodge in Springfield, Mass., Mr. Chaney was also a member of the Ridgefield Men's Club. He was an avid golfer as well as an avid sports fan.
Survivors include one uncle, Larry Jayne of Bloomington, Minn.; his fianc'E9e, Robin J. Axness of Ridgefield; and his former wife, Beverly Hockman Chaney of Somers, N.Y. Several cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield, with the Rev. Robert P. Morrissey, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Newport, R.I. at the convenience of the family.

Daniel A. Meldon-Cerretta
Daniel A. Meldon-Cerretta, 56, of Denver, Colorado, passed away March 17, 2000 in Denver.
Mr. Meldon-Cerretta was born in Bridgeport. He was an Honorably Discharged Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. A singer/songwriter by profession, he was a well known musician. He was best known for his autobiographical rock opera "Carousel For Freaks".
Mr. Meldon-Cerretta is survived by his daughters, Danielle Meldon of Willimantic and Alma Cerretta of Lincoln, Neb.; as well as several cousins.
Graveside services will take place Friday, July 7, 2000 at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford.
Roper & Sons Mortuary, Lincoln, Neb., is in charge of services.
Juliette (Henry) Singewald
Juliette (Henry) Singewald, 67, of 3 Middleton Dr., New Fairfield, died at her home on Wednesday, July 5, 2000 due to injuries sustained in a house fire.
Born in Danbury on December 25, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Julia (Acker) Henry. She was a graduate of local Danbury schools.
Mrs. Singewald and her late brother Edward owned and operated the former Henry's Florist Shop on South Street, Danbury. After the death of her brother, she operated the shop until her retirement in 1985.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert O'Keefe and Kevin O'Keefe; a brother, J. Robert Henry of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services and burial in Saint Peter Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
