Blanche M. Leiby

Blanche Margaret Leiby, age 95, of Danbury, CT died Monday, July 10, 2000 at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, Danbury.

Ms. Leiby was born in Glen Rock, PA, December 14, 1904 a daughter of the late Israel S. and Anna Rieman Leiby and lived in Tamaqua, PA for many years. She taught grade school in Tamaqua for 35 years, until retiring and moving to Danbury in the late 1950s. During her teaching years in Tamaqua she served as principal of the Pine Street School for 20 years. After moving to Danbury she taught from 1960 to 1970 at the Green Chimneys School in Brewster, NY.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Danbury, a member of the American Assoc. of University Women, the Danbury Branch of the Mary Wooster Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, was a member of the Danbury Scott-Fanton Museum and Historical Society and a member of the Danbury Animal Welfare Society. She was a life member of both the National Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers Assoc.

Ms. Leiby is survived by a nephew Ralph Klingaman and many great nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at the First Congregational Church, Danbury, Friday morning at 11:00. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, PA on Saturday.

There are no calling hours, Hull Funeral Service, 60 Division St., Danbury, CT is handling arrangements.

John Peter Quinn

John Peter Quinn, 60, of Rita Dr., New Fairfield, died at his home on Monday, July 10, 2000. He was the husband of Bernadette (Kenney) Quinn.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on October 27, 1939, he was a son of the late Thomas and Rita (Nolan) Quinn. Mr. Quinn was employed by Rock Ridge Country Club of Newtown up until his illness.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his 3 sons and their wives, John Peter and Deborah Quinn Jr. of Brookfield, Paul and Susan Quinn of Germantown, Ohio, and Kevin and Tricia Quinn of New Fairfield; 3 brothers, Thomas Quinn of Great River, N.Y., Robert Quinn of Edison, N.J., and Michael Quinn of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Cassidy Quinn; and a grandson, Jacob Quinn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward Church, New Fairfield, Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Edgar L. Hawley

Edgar L. Hawley, age 70, husband of the late Ethel (Raymond) Hawley of 2 Towns End Road, Newtown, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 in the Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Hawley was born in Norwalk, February 28, 1930, a son of the late Edgar V. and Eva (Mead) Hawley. A resident of Newtown the past 45 years,

Mr. Hawley was employed for 25 years as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Newtown Highway Department until his retirement in 1998.

He is survived by a son, Christopher Raymond of Pittsfield, Mass.; 4 daughters, Barbara Bradley of Newtown, Susan Spiller of Moore, Oklahoma, Jane Eckert of Newtown and Carol Mitchell of Newtown; 3 brothers, Charles Hawley of North Carolina, John Hawley of Danbury and William Hawley of Iowa; 1 sister, Emma Stancek of Danbury; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown.

Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday (today) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Daciano A. Santos
Daciano A. Santos, 63, of Danbury, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Maria de Lurdes Amaro Santos. Mr. Santos was born in Ribamondego, Portugal September 15, 1936, came to the US and has been a resident of Danbury for over 30 years. He was employed at Redding Elementary School in Redding, CT. Besides his wife, a daughter, Isabel (Santos) Silverio, a son-in-law, Julio Silverio and a granddaughter, survive him. There are no calling hours. Funeral Services will be private. Green Funeral Home, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret I. Booth
Margaret I. Booth, age 85, of Carmel, NY, died on July 12, 2000. Margaret was born on October 24, 1914 in Shirley, MA to Clayton and Margaret Matthews Wells. She married Joseph N. Booth on January 3, 1943 in CT. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Carol Finney of Wappinger Falls, NY; her son, Roger Booth of Sprakers, NY; her three brothers, Donald Wells of Cedar Hills, TX, Richard Wells of Albuquerque, NM and Raymond Wells of Bethel, CT; and her two sisters, Eleanor Hills of New Milford, CT and Marjorie Woodin of Danbury, CT. Margaret is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph and four brothers. Visiting will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Adams-Cordovano Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Carmel, NY. The funeral service is Saturday 11 a.m. at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Carmel. Interment at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel.

Hilda J. Russell
Hilda J. Russell died July 12, 2000 at Harborside in Danbury at the age of 80. She was the wife of the late Robert C. Russell and had lived on Park Ave. in Danbury until her retirement to Nunnawauk Meadows in Newtown. She was born in North Dartmouth, Ma., August 6, 1919, daughter of the late Joseph and Adeline Marshall Jason. She came to the Danbury area about 60 years ago. Mrs. Russell was a retired inspector for the Bard Parker Corp. in Danbury and an assembler for Curtis-Wrigh Co. She was a member of St. Peter Church and the Senior Aid Program. She is survived by her son, Robert of New York City and her longtime caregiver, Judy MacKenzie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (Today) at St. Peter Church, Main St., Danbury at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to St. Peter Church, Main St., Danbury, CT 06810. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., is in charge of arrangements.

Fernando Jose Prudente Pereira
Fernando Jose Prudente Pereira, 44, of 28 B Virginia Ave., Danbury, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabete Travassos Pereira. Born in Leiria, Portugal on September 17, 1955, he was a son of Fernando Inacio Pereira and Maria Alzinda (Prudente) Pereira of Portugal. He came to Danbury from Portugal in 1975. He was a graduate of Danbury High School and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. He has worked at the Brass Jail Restaurant as a manager for the past year. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his son, Jonathan and daughter, Alexandra, both of Danbury; and his brother, Tito Pereira; and sisters, Clara Pereira and Ana Baptista, all of Danbury; as well as one niece. Funeral services and burial will take place in Portugal. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.

Bernice Pearson Lucas
Bernice Pearson Lucas died on July 12, 2000 in Durango, CO. She was 80 years old. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, CT. A memorial service will be held at the Bethel Congregational Church at the family's convenience. Mrs. Lucas was born May 3, 1920 in Danbury, CT. He parents were George L. Pearson and Helen L. Bennett. She married Benjamin M. Lucas in 1938 in Brewster, NY. Mrs. Lucas lived in Bethel, CT until 1989 when she moved to Salem, MA. In 1995, she moved to Cedar Rapids, IA and in 1998, to Durango, CO. She attended schools in Bethel, including Plumtrees School, a one room schoolhouse which was taught by her mother's friend, Anna Rockwell. She worked for over 30 years at the Barden Corporation in Danbury, CT, retiring as a manufacturing analyst. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing piano, painting pictures, gardening and giving advice. She is survived by two daughters, Susan L. Riess of Durango, CO and Bernice L. Turner of Salem, MA; and one son, Benjamin Lucas of Cedar Rapids, IA; five grandchildren, Naomi Riess of Durango, CO, Katherine Sullivan of Amesbury, MA, Richard Turner of Beverly, MA, Michael Lucas of Milford, CT and Daniel Lucas of Milford, CT. She is also survived by a sister, Marie P. Close of Providence, RI; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters, Elisabeth Pearson and Erma Perry.

Edna Donaldson
Edna Donaldson, widow of Windram Donaldson Jr. and matriarch of the Donaldson family of New Fairfield which had operated the former Donaldson's (Texaco) Garage and the former Windram Motel on Route #39, north of Candlewood Corners, New Fairfield, died Wednesday at Harborside Glen Hill Convalescent Center in Danbury. Friends will be received at The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, New Fairfield on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Memorial contributions to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury, CT 06810 will be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Emanuel (Manny) Vicari
Emanuel (Manny) Vicari, 76, of Afton, NY, formerly of Brewster, NY, died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Tuesday, July 11, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Dorothy Vicari, Afton, NY. Two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Deacon Tom Harley, Endicott, NY and Angela Hunter, Solvang, CA. His grandchildren, Michael and James Harley and Kathy Risoli. Two great-grandchildren, Robert Risoli and Mehdi Harley. Manny was the owner and operator of LMT Auto Parts in Brewster, NY. He was known for his great love of life and family. He will be dearly missed but will live on in each of our lives, which he had profoundly influenced. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m., from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 2 to 4 and evening from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Broome County Unit, 57 Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905.

Donald I. Ticehurst

Donald I. Ticehurst, died July 12, 2000 at his home on North Lakeshore Drive, Brookfield at the age of 73. He was the husband of Christine Messer Ticehurst.

Mr. Ticehurst was born in Beacon NY, July 23, 1926 son of the late William H. and Estella White Ticehurst. He moved to Bethel, CT as a young boy and graduated from Bethel High, Class of 1944. In July of 1944, he joined the Navy and served as 3rd Class Pharmacy Mate. He received the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal.

Mr. Ticehurst was a piano tuner and operated the Bethel Piano Store in the 1960's. He retired in 1981. He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Brookfield and sang in it's choir. He also was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Mr. and Mrs. Ticehurst celebrated their 50th wedding this past June. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons; William J. and Robert G. both of Brookfield; his daughter Linda A. Fairclough of New Milford; two grandsons, Jonathan and Jeffrey Ticehurst; and two granddaughters, Dana Ticehurst and Amber Fairclough; two sisters; Ruth Hatch of Brookfield and Esther Shanley of Newtown; several nieces and nephews. He is joined in Eternal Life with his brothers, Paul and Harold and granddaughter Karla Christine Fairclough.

Memorial Services will be held at St. Paul Church, Rt. 25 Brookfield, CT on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Rev. George Crocker, Rector, officiating. Burial of the Cremains will take place on Thursday, July 20 at the Memorial Garden of St. Paul Church, at 1 p.m. Contributions may be made to St. Paul's Memorial Fund. There are no calling hours. The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Turoczi

Charles Turoczi, 84 of Austin Street, Danbury, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Turoczi was the husband of Arline (Evans) Turoczi. He was born in Chicago, IL, January 26, 1916, a son of Karoly and Rosi (Skakolszay) Turoczi.

He worked for Harry McLaughlin's Hat Factory for many years and also played on their industrial softball league team. He later retired after twenty five years of service from the Perkin Elmer Corporation.

Mr. Turoczi was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury. Besides his wife, Arline, he is survived by two sons; Duane and his wife Carol Turoczi of Newtown and Kevin Turoczi of Danbury; a brother Ernest Turoczi of Fairfield; three grandsons, Kyle of Woodbury, Chad of Newtown and Jason of Fairfield and two great granddaughters, Sarah and Heather Turoczi of Woodbury. He was predeceased by his son Charles E. Turoczi, Jr.

Contributions in his memory may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810. Calling hours; Sunday, 4-8 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury. Services, Monday at 10:00 a.m., St. James Episcopal Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Anna H. Seaberg

Anna H. Seaberg, age 99, of Bethel, passed peacefully on Monday, July 10th, at the Pope John Paul II center for Healthcare, Danbury, where she had resided since February, 1999. She was the wife of the late George Robert Seaberg.

Born Anna Hofmann Deubel, in Danbury on September 5, 1900, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Veronica (Hofmann) Deubel. Mrs. Seaberg attended Danbury schools, and was employed by the Clark Box Company from the 1920's until her retirement as the supervisor of it's printing department.

Mrs. Seaberg was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Seaberg was also predeceased by her brother, Frank Deubel, and her sisters: Dora Shaw, Miriam Deubel, Susanna Gustafson and Pauline Schulze.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 18th at the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel on Monday from 6 through 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Bethel Visiting Nurses Association, 1 School Street, Bethel, CT 06801.

Edna (Maher) Donaldson

Edna (Maher) Donaldson, 93, a resident of New Fairfield since 1926 went home to God on July 12, 2000 while at Harborside Glen Hill Convalescent Home in Danbury. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Windram Donaldson, Jr., her mother and father, sisters and brother.

Edna was born in Bridgeport, CT, March 18, 1907. Edna and her husband owned and operated Donaldson's Garage and the Windram Motel in New Fairfield for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in New Fairfield and its Ladies Guild. She was also a former volunteer for the RSVP organization in Danbury.

Edna enjoyed reading, crocheting, John Wayne movies and in recent years as her eyesight failed, the game Rummikub became most special to her.

She is survived by a son Windram III and his wife Lois of New Fairfield, her devoted grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Windram IV and Kathy (Smythe) Donaldson of New Fairfield, a granddaughter Patricia (Donaldson) Neun and her husband Ray of NH, four great grandchildren, Windram V and Kara Donaldson of New Fairfield, Marybeth and Kathleen Neun of NH, two nieces, Sally Moran of West Hartford, and Shirley Schmitt and a nephew, Earl Wadell both of Kent, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West Street, Danbury, CT. 06810.

Mariano DeSantis

Mariano DeSantis, 75 of 6 Pleasant Street, Bethel, husband of the late Roselee (Pane) DeSantis, died at the Glen Hill/Harborside Convalescent Home on Thursday, July 13, 2000.

He was born in Danbury, July 16, 1924, son of the late Carlo and Theresa (Mucitelli) DeSantis. He had attended Danbury schools and had served with the US Army, 1st Armored Division in the European theater during WW II. He was a retired employee of the Barden Corporation. He retired in the early 1990's after having worked there for more than thirty years.

Mr. DeSantis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Tammy DeSantis of New Milford and a daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Ray Coladarci, of Danbury; a brother, Toni DeSantis of Brookfield, a sister, Susie Krisko of Danbury, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, Box 1004 Meriden, CT. 06050.

Margaret M. Bracken

Margaret M. Bracken, of Belle Harbor, NY died on July 11, 2000, wife of the late John Bracken, loving mother of Sister Agnes Marie, D.W., Msgr. John, Martin L. and Kate; proud grandmother of Kassie; dear sister of Vincent Carroll, Kathryn Healy, Agnes and John Leahy, Marion and William DeHaven, dear sister-in-law of Cele Carroll, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held July 14, 2000 at St. Francis deSales, Belle Harbor, NY at 10:30 a.m. Leahy/McDonald Funeral Home, 111-02 Atlantic Ave, Richmond Hill, NY 11419 is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret M. Rotella

Margaret M. Rotella, 90, wife of the late Dominic Rotella, of 51 Main St., Danbury, died at her residence on Friday morning, July 14, 2000.

She was born in Danbury, November 23, 1909, daughter of the late Ezra Lee and Mary (Walsh) Edmond. She was a graduate of St. Peter School, Danbury High School and the former Crandall's Secretarial School. For many years, she had worked as an investigator for the City of Danbury Department of Social Services. Mrs. Rotella later worked as a cashier for the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and prior to her retirement, had been a Realtor, for thirty years, and had been associated with the Neidhart-Rotella Real Estate Co.

Mrs. Rotella had been very active, all of her life, in various civil, fraternal and volunteer organizations. She had been past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, first daughter of a legionnaire to be elected this office; past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; and past president, Rosary Assembly of Catholic Ladies of Columbus in addition to being a past State president of that organization. She served on the building committee of the Danbury War Memorial; she was the first board secretary and had served as a trustee for 30 years and was the first president of the Danbury War Memorial (Wamego).

She had been appointed and served as Jury Commissioner of Fairfield County and served for 9 years as hospitality chairman of the Ladies Golf Tournament, held at Richter Park in Danbury, to aid the American Cancer Society. She also was a member of St. Joseph Church in Danbury, the Danbury Music Center, and the A.A.R.P., Chapter No. 1847 and had been past president of the Danbury Commons Tenants Organization.

Mrs. Rotella is survived by a son, Francis E. Rotella and his wife Jacqueline of Danbury; a granddaughter, Janice Seidl and her husband Edward; a grandson, John "Jay" Rotella and his wife Susan; 4 great-grandchildren, Brian and Christopher Seidl and Kathryn and Margaret Rotella, all of Danbury, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church on Monday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Regional Hospice of Western CT, 30 West St., Danbury, CT 06810.

Emmett Mahlon Westfall

Emmett Mahlon Westfall, 72, of New Milford, CT, husband of Quana P. Westfall, passed away July 12, 2000 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Mr. Westfall was born on February 10, 1928 in Elmira, NY, to the recently deceased John G. Westfall and the late Lillian Hasbrouck. He grew up in Elmira Heights and graduated from Alfred University, majoring in history with a minor in engineering. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Chub and the USS Dogfish as a torpedo man.

Mr. Westfall moved to Connecticut in 1962 with his first wife and growing family. They lived in Enfield, CT, and East Granby, CT, before settling in New Milford in 1972.

He had a successful career with the Bellows Valve Air Company and Taylor Instruments as an industrial salesman before working locally as a Real Estate Broker for the last twenty years. His real estate career began with Gail Westfall Realty, which he operated with his first wife, Gail. In recent years he had operated Westfall Real Estate and most currently with Cordeiro Realty as a broker.

His first wife, Gail W. Westfall, and his son John G. Westfall, predeceased Mr. Westfall. He is survived by his sons; James H. Westfall, of Cool, CA, Matthew R. Westfall and Cary N. Westfall and his wife Mary of New Milford, CT; and two daughters, Lisa W. Day and husband, Wayne of New Preston, CT and Leslie W. Schlemmer and husband John of New Milford, CT. Also seven grandsons and one granddaughter survive him.

Emmett Westfall was a tremendously family oriented loving husband, father and grandfather. His gift for gab and ever-present kindness always provided comfort and understanding for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.

A memorial service will take place at the First Congregational Church, 36 Main Street, New Milford, CT, Saturday, July 22, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Book of Remembrance, First Congregational Church, New Milford, CT.
