Caroline A. Torrillo
Caroline A. Torrillo, age 74, of Bridgeport, a retired employee of Remington Arms and former employee of General Electric, died at her residence on Saturday, June 3, 2000, surrounded by her family.
Born in Bridgeport, she was a daughter of the late Domenic and Rose Petrillo Torrillo. A lifelong city resident, Miss Torrillo was a Harding High School Graduate and was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Remington Arms, an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting for cancer patients.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Paul, John and Albert Torrillo.
Survivors include her sister, Mary DeBernardo and her husband Anthony of Brookfield; two sisters-in-law, Mary Torrillo of Pennsylvania, Ann Torrillo of Shelton; 10 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews and 11 great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. from theAbriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Bridgeport, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Mary A. (Conti) Surfaro
Mary A. Surfaro (Conti), a Mamaroneck resident, died on June 3, 2000 at the Dobbs Ferry Community Hospital. She was 83.
She was born on August 5, 1916 in Brooklyn to Salvatore and Serafina Figliozzi Conti. Mary was married to the late Frank Surfaro. Mary was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Brendan's in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Columbiettes, and she was a parishioner of Sts. John & Paul Church.
She is the cherished mother to Stephen Surfaro of Bedford, N.H., AnneMarie Surfaro-Boehme of Ridgefield, and Monica Surfaro Spigelman of Rye Brook, N.Y.; dear sister to Vincent Conti of New Jersey, Dorothy Gigante and Evelyn Grande of Florida and Jeanne Pico of Connecticut. Loving grandmother of Brett. Mary is predeceased by her brothers, George, Dominick, Frank and Dr. Joseph Conti, and sisters, Mildred and Theresa.
Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday 10 a.m. at Sts. John & Paul R.C. Church followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the American Heart Association.
Theresa A. "Terry" DeMarsico
Theresa A. "Terry" DeMarsico, formerly of the Bronx, N.Y., longtime resident of Danbury, died after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved wife of Richard DeMarsico, loving mother of Mark DeMarsico and Dawn Falkowski, dear sister to Michael Manza, Frank Manza and Lena Castellucci. Cherished grandmother of five. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Hugh Bedford Vanderbilt Sr.
Hugh Bedford Vanderbilt Sr., of Greenwich, Conn., Palm Beach, Florida and Devil Lake, Canada, died June 2nd, 2000 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 79 years old.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest son of the late Robert Thurlow and Mildred Bedford Vanderbilt. He attended the Allen Stevenson School, Choate School and Trinity College in Hartford. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, participating in the Battle of Iwo Jima while attached to the 5th Marine Division. He remained on Iwo for a year.
He was President, CEO and Chairman of the R.T. Vanderbilt Company, a mining and manufacturing company founded by his father in 1916. He was also an avid collector of Early American antiques and served on the boards of the Greenwich Historical Society as well as that of historic Deerfield. He was a passionate golfer, fisherman and downhill skier.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Claire F. Vanderbilt; a brother, Robert T. of London, England; a son, Hugh Jr. and two daughters, Linda and Laura. He was predeceased by a brother, F. Bedford Vanderbilt. He also leaves five grandsons, Thaddeus, Alexander, Nicholas, Michael and Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich Building Fund.
Services will held at the Christ Church, 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7th.
Erminia Maffei
Erminia Calamaro Maffei, age 80, of New Milford, formerly of Stamford and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday at Candlewood Valley Care Center, New Milford. She was the widow of Gesidio Maffei.
Mrs. Maffei was born in Ambler, Pa., September 26, 1919, a daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Cuifo Calamaro. Formerly of Stamford, she and her late husband owned and operated the North Street Market in Stamford for many years. They moved to Port Charlotte, Fla. in 1969.
Mrs. Maffei is survived by a son, Frederick J. Maffei Sr. of Danbury; two daughters, Helen Maffei of Stamford and Lucy Sciarretta of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 7 grandsons and 13 great grandchildren.

Services and entombment in Charlotte Memorial Garden, Punta Gorda, Fla. are at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Andrew J. Zitnay
Andrew J. Zitnay Jr. of Newtown, age 70, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Zitnay was born in Bridgeport and had been a Newtown resident 11 years. He was an inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring in 1989, and was still active as a private consultant.
Mr. Zitnay worked in aviation all his life and was a former employee of Sikorsky Aircraft and Bridgeport Flight Service. He was a U.S. naval veteran of the Korean War, where he witnessed four atomic bomb detonations.
He was an avid model airplane hobbyist and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Ann F. Nancy (Hartigan) Zitnay of Newtown; a son, Scott T. Zitnay and his wife, Nelly, of Newtown; a daughter, Linda Murphy and her husband, Don, of Ridgefield; a brother, Ted Zitnay of Carlsbad, CA; a sister, Jean Winiger of Gilmartin, NH; three grandchildren, Libby and Joe Murphy and Ryan Zitnay; an aunt, Mary Matthews of Milo, ME; an uncle, Joseph Krisak of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend graveside services, with full military honors, Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Long Hill Burial Grounds, Middlebrooks Avenue (off Main Street), Trumbull.
There will be no calling hours.

Mary Madeline Muir
Mary Madeline Muir, 94, of Northfield, Vt., formerly of Danbury, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at the Mayo Health Care Center in Northfield, Vt. She was the wife of the late William H. Muir.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., September 7, 1905, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Murphy) Bauer. Mrs. Muir owned and operated the former M. Muir Nursery on Mill Plain Rd., Danbury from 1943 to 1973.
She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Mrs. Muir was predeceased by her 3 children, Robert DeLisle, Margaret Ward and Jean Luhrman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church Monday morning at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Shirley (Reid) Katan Hodges
Shirley (Reid) Katan Hodges, 89, of 1132 Meriden Road, Waterbury, wife of the late Elmer Hodges, died Wednesday at Meriden Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waterbury.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Waterbury October 1, 1910, a daughter of the late Malcolm and Flora (Judd) Reid, and spent her early life in Waterbury.
After living for many years in Marble Dale, she returned to Waterbury in 1973.
She is survived by a son, Reid Katan of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Maxine Born of Pensacola, Fla. and Nancy Hutton of Marble Dale; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, June 26 at 1 p.m. at the Northville Cemetery, New Milford.

Frederick Robinson
Frederick F. Robinson, 87, of Lee Farm, Danbury, husband of Josephine (Lee) Robinson, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the Danbury Hospital.
He was born in Danbury, September 8, 1912, son of the late John and Minerva (Miller) Robinson. Mr. Robinson was a graduate of Bentley College in Boston, MA, where he was a member of the President's Club. He went on to establish his own business, Frederick F. Robinson, C.P.A. He and his firm served as municipal auditors for the City of Danbury in the 1950s.
As a community minded individual, Mr. Robinson worked hard for the industrial growth of the City of Danbury. He was a 52-year member and past president of the Connecticut Society of CPAs. He belonged to the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the New York Society of CPAs. He was also a member of St. Peter Church, a director of the Fairfield County Farm Bureau and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Robinson is survived by his five children, Frederick F. Robinson Jr. of West Redding, Josephine Robinson of Gaithersburg, MD, Patricia Reid of Richmond, VA, Frank Lee Robinson of Denver, CO, and Joan Mary Avenius of Red Hook, NY; and 17 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Gertrude Halas, and a cousin, Lester Miller, both of Danbury, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m.
Lawrence J. Haase
Lawrence J. "Larry" Haase, beloved son of the late Lewis and Lilly Mahoney Haase died on June 16, 2000, at his home in Ft. Meyers, Fla.
He was born April 1, 1938, in New York City and lived most of his life in New Jersey. He graduated from St. Mary High School in Elizabeth, N.J., and from Upsala College, West Orange, N.J., with a degree in business administration.
Mr. Haase worked in the retail business for a number of companies, including Bloomingdales, B. Altman and Huffman Koos, until his retirement to Ft. Meyers, Fla., in 1984.
He is survived by his brother's family, Al and Phoebe Haase, John and Laura Haase, Larry and Mary Haase, and a grandnephew, William Haase, all of Danbury; his aunt, Mary Mahoney of Lompoc, Calif., and his aunt, Susan Haase, of Mountainside, N.J.; as well as several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Cottage Street, Danbury. Burial will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Margaret F. Webber
Margaret F. Webber, 84, of 135 Housatonic Avenue, New Milford, wife of the late Ralph M. Webber, died at the New Milford Hospital on Wednesday, June 21, 2000.
She was born in Waterbury, June 14, 1916, daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Elizabeth (Wiltsie) Benedict. She had been a Danbury resident for many years, prior to moving to New Milford in 1978.
Mrs. Webber is survived by a son, Lowell Fisher of New Milford, Four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside interment of Mrs. Webber's cremated remains will take place in section #23 at Wooster Cemetery, Wednesday, June 28th at 9 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Phoebe L. Ellis
Phoebe L. Ellis died at her home, June 23, 2000 at the age of 82. She lived in Vero Beach, FL and was the wife of the late Thomas C. Ellis.
Mrs. Ellis was born in New Rochelle, NY, July 26, 1917, daughter of the late Norman and Phoebe Jane Hoblitz Lacy. She received her education in NY and lived in Warren, NJ from 1969 until retiring to Vero Beach in l992. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener, golfer and bowler. She also enjoyed membership in the Vero Beach Country Club, the Vero Beach Yacht Club and was a past member of the Whippoorwill Country Club in Armonk, NY. She is survived by her two sons; Norman T. and his wife, Peggy of Brookfield, and Wayne C., of Vero Beach; grandsons, Andrew, Matthew, Garrett and Sean; and granddaughters Kristin and Chelyn.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield with Rev. George Crocker, Rector of St. Paul Church officiating. Burial will be in Prince of Peace Cemetery, Brookfield. Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Contributions may be made to either the Brookfield Center Volunteer Fire Department or the Brookfield Candlewood Fire Department.
Ronald J.Parzuchowski
Ronald J. Parzuchowski, 59, of New Fairfield, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
Mr. Parzuchowski was born in Danbury, August 31, 1940, a son of the late Henry and Anna (Balazy) Parzuchowski. He graduated from Locust Avenue School in 1954 and from Henry Abbott Technical School in 1958. At the time of his death he was employed at the Dunham Tool Company of New Fairfield, where he worked for the past twenty-three years. He founded the New England Lawn and Garden, Inc., along with is son, Stephen in 1988 and was the supervisor of its Pesticide Division. His favorite past times included woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren and building a log home in Vermont. Mr. Parzuchowski was active in all sports, most notably softball, bowling and golf.
He is survived by his son, Stephen and wife, Linda, of Roxbury; three beloved grandchildren, Michelle, Kevin and Nichole; his twin brother, Donald and wife, Blanche, of Danbury and his step-mother, Helen Parzuchowski and his son's half sister, Becky Linster, as well as his niece, Deborah Bakoledis and nephews, Douglas and Brian Parzuchowski.
Memorial services will be held at Roxbury Congregational Church on Wednesday June 28, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
