Frank “Petee” Longo, 87, husband of Carmela “Millie” (Galiette) Longo of
175 Berlin Street, Southington, Connecticut, died Sunday, February 2, 3003
at the Bradley Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 28, 1915 in Southington, Connecticut, the son of the
Late Peter and Josephine (Pepe) Longo.
Frank was a member and communicant of Saint Thomas Roman Church,
Southington, Connecticut. He was a lifetime member of the Redmen’s and
Calendar House and the Senior Citizens Golf League. Prior to his retirement
he was employed by the Macristy Industries of New Britain, Connecticut.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters and sons in laws; Francine
and Robert Holm of Marion, and Nancile and Louis Sarno of Middletown.
Two sisters; Margaret Maynard of Old Saybrook, and Viola Martin of
Southington. His beloved Granchildren; Gregory Holm of Arlington,
Virginia, Joseph Sarno of Middletown, and Douglas and his wife Laura
Holm of West Hartford. Also several Nieces and Nephews.
He is predeceased by his brothers; William, Louis and Michael Longo and
his sisters; Rose Landrette and Anna Guidry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 6, 2003 at
10:00 AM in Saint Thomas Church, 99 Bristol Street, Southington,
Connecticut.
Burial will be in the Family Plot in Saint Thomas Cemetery, Southington,
Connecticut.
There are no Calling Hours.

Frank Marchese, 84, husband of Carmela (Augeri) Marchese of
10 Franklin Street, died Friday at Middlesex Hospital.
He was born November 3, 1917 in Melilli Sicily, son of the late
Giovanni and Carmela (Bongiovanni) Marchese. He was a
member of Saint Sebastian Church. Prior to his retirement he
was employed by North and Judd.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law,
Giovanni and Patricia Marchese of Middletown; a daughter and sonin-
law, Anna and Guido Mazzotta; his beloved grandchildren, Enza
Mazzotta Giacco and her husband Tony, Melinda Parnasso and her
husband Aldo, Elizabeth Marchese and Christopher Marchese; her
great-grandchildren, Alicia, Anthony, Andrew, Austin and Alexis
Giacco, and Olivia and Amanda Parnasso. He is predeceased by five
brothers, Natale, Carmelo, Vincenzo, Sebastiano and Giuseppe
Marchese and a sister, Sebastiana Augeri.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the D'Angelo
Funeral Home, 22 South Main Street, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Sebastian Church, with the Very Reverend
Father Thomas J. Derito Smith, V.F., Pastor as celebrant and homilist
for the Funeral Mass.
Burial will be in the Family plot in Saint Sebastian Cemetery,
Middlefield, with Deacon Nicholas J. Cannata officiating.

Mr. Frank Anthony Zampini, Jr
October 28, 1931 – January 14, 2003
Frank Anthony Zampini, Jr., 71. of Beechwood Road, Killingworth,
Connecticut, formerly of Portland, husband of Louise (Yedrysek)
Zampini died Tuesday January 14, 2003 at the Middlesex Hospital.
Born in Middletown on October 28, 1931, he was the son of the late
Francis "Frank" A. and Filomena Ann (Colavecchio) Zampini Sr. and
was a lifelong resident of Portland before moving to Killingworth in
2000.
Frank had served as a part time constable with the Portland Police
Dept and before retiring in 1983, he was employed with Pratt &
Whitney Aircraft.
He was a Korean Conflict Airforce veteran and a life member with
Portland Volunteer Fire Dept. and Knights of Columbus in Portland.
Besides his loving wife of 46 years, he is survived by two sons and
daughters-in-law, Michael F. and Carol Zampini of Middletown, Mark
J. and Terri Zampini of Portland; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria Z.
and Toby Cormier of Colchester; a brother and sister-in-law, John J.
and Catherine L. Zampini of Portland; Five grandchildren, Michael F.
Zampini Jr., Matthew M. Zampini, Alexandra E. Zampini, Zachary P.
Cormier, and Olivia L. Cormier; and one niece. Frank also leaves
many lifelong friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the
Church of Saint Mary, Portland.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Saint Sebastian
Cemetery, Middlefield, Connecticut.
Friends may call at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main
Street, Portland on Friday morning from 8:30-10 a.m.

Very Reverend Father Leo J. Ovian,
M.S.A.
died Thursday, January 30, 2003
Very Reverend Father Leo J. Ovian, M.S.A. died on
Thursday, January 30, 2003 in Washington D.C.
Father Ovian was ordained to the priesthood at the Basilica
of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in
Washington, D.C. on February 12, 1966.
He was a founding member and first Vicar General of the
Missionaries of the Holy Apostles, a Society founded to
foster and form adults and young adults in their vocation to
the priesthood as well as to other ministries in the Church.
He was the son of Ephraim and Zabelle Ovian and was
raised in Whitinsville, Massachuessts with a brother, Peter
Ovian, later killed in World War II during the Battle of the
Bulge; his sister, Angel Ovian Byrne of Arlington, Virgina; his
brother, Edward C. Ovain, husband of Alice Ovian of
Whitinsville, Massachuessts.
Father Ovian served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, a
Tech Sergeant with the 486th Bomber Group, 834th
Squadron, 8th Air Force.
He attended Arnold College in Connecticut and earned
bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of
California in Los Angeles.
After working for seven years as a public school teacher in
Groton, he entered the Roman Catholic Church and became
a student of philosophy in 1959 at Holy Apostles Seminary in
Cromwell, Connecticut.
He studied theology at the Catholic University of America,
and earned his doctorate in education there.
After ordination and his completion of doctoral studies in
1966, he was appointed President and Rector of Holy
Apostles Seminary, an appointment that continued for 18
years. Under his leadership, the seminary grew not only in
faculty and students but in its outreach to the community. In
1970, the education program was expanded to provide a
balanced education for adult men and women, and in 1972,
the name was officially changed to Holy Apostles College and
Seminary. Then in 1978, a program of theological studies
leading to ordination and a Master of Divinity degree was
initiated. In 1979, both the graduate and undergraduate
divisions were accredited by the New England Association of
Schools and Colleges.
During his tenure as President and Rector, Father Ovian held
strictly to orthodox Catholic doctrine and total obedience to
the Magisterium of the Church. Under his leadership, the
college seminary was rated among the top in the nation.
During this period, he also provided pastoral care to the
members of the parish of Saint John Church in Cromwell,
Connecticut.
During the Fall of 1988, Father Ovian was assigned to the
Missionaries of the Holy Apostles House of Studies at 1335
Quincy St., N.E., Washington, D.C.
He attended graduate courses at the Catholic University of
America, functioned as facilitator for the Missionaries of the
Holy Apostles North American Region and as representative
of their Unification Commission to study the feasibility of
unifying the Missionary Society of the Holy Apostles with the
Society of the Holy Apostles, and provided pastoral care as
spiritual director to the pilgrims who visit the Basilica of the
National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
Father Ovian's body will be received in Saint John Church,
Cromwell on Tuesday where he will lie in state.

John's Sq., Cromwell, Connecticut, Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Father Ovian will be
Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Saint John
Church, Cromwell with the Very Reverend Raymond
Halliwell, M.S.A., Provincial Superior as celebrant of the
Funeral Mass.
Burial will be Thursday in Saint Patrick Cemetery,
Northbridge, Massachuessts.

died in Melilli Sicily Italy
Giuseppe Zappulla, 64, husband of Lena Sarasceno Zappulla of Melilli,
Sicily, Italy, died Friday, January 10, 2003, following a brief illness.
He was born December 18, 1938 in Pachina, Italy, son of the Late Corrado
and Guiseppa Impera Zappulla.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son; Corrado Zappulla of Melilli, two
daughers; Adrain Carra and Maria Gazia Morello of Melilli; two sisters;
Salvatrice Vinci of Melilli, and Marisa Lagana of Middletown, four
Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services and burial were held in Italy.
A Mass of Remembrance for the repose soul of Giuseppe Zappulla will be
held on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 7:00 PM in Saint Sebastian Roman
Catholic Church, 155 Washington Street, Middletown, Connecticut, with the
Reverend Father Daniel Karempelis, M.S.A., Parish Assistant, as celebrant
of the Mass.

Harvey W. Hebert
Burial in Saint Sebastian Cemetery
May 19, 1918 - July 19, 2003
Harvey W. Hebert of Thorpe Ave., Meriden, formerly of Quinebaug section of
Thompson, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Mid State Medical Center, Meriden.
He was the husband of the Late Lucy (D'Aquila) Hebert. He was born in North
Grosvenordale on May 19, 1918, son of the late Nelson and Emma (Jacques) Hebert.
A Graduate of Tourtellote Memorial High School, he also attended Northeastern
University. Worcester, MA. Politically active, he was twice elected Tax Collector (1941-
43) and Chairman of the Republican Party for the Town of Thompson. He resigned these
positions during World War II to serve in the Army 34th AAA Group attached to the 7th
Army in the European Theater of Operations. After the war he served as business and
office skills instructor for the government personnel in Spain and France. Upon his return
to the States he served two years in Washington D.C. as an aide to Congressman Seeley-
Brown from Connecticut's 2nd District.
In 1952 he joined Citizens National bank in Putman, where he held several banking
positions and ultimately served as bank president. During that term, he was also a
member of the Thompson Board of Education. In 1969 he was hired as President of
Foxboro National Bank, Foxboro, MA, and held that position until his retirement in 1990.
He was active in Rotary, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and other civic
Organizations.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Audrey Hebert of New Berlin,
WI; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Fred Shiffer of Middletown and Lisa
and Frank Schapfel of Lexington, MA; two grandchildren; and many nieces; and
nephews. He is predeceased by 12 siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, morning at 11 a.m. at ST. Pius X
Church, Westfield St., Middletown.
Burial will be in Saint Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield.

Lawrence Arthur McCarthy
October 22, 1921 – December 30, 2002
Lawrence Arthur McCarthy, 81, of Avon, beloved husband
for 54 years of the late Charlotte (McKinstry) McCarthy, died
Monday, (December 30, 2002) in Sarasota, Florida.
He was born October 22, 1921 in Middletown, son of the late
Dennis and Margaret (Behrens) McCarthy and had lived in
Cromwell prior to moving to Avon 30 years ago.
Mr. McCarthy was employed for over 40 years at M.H.
Rhodes in Avon. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was a
Production Control Manager and served on the Board of
Directors.
He was a communicant of the Church of Saint Ann, Avon,
and a member of the Avon Senior Center. He loved a good
game of cribbage, was a fan of the Red Sox Baseball team
and the UCONN Lady Huskies.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in law, Kathleen and
Frederick Adinolfi of Colchester, their children, Laura
Winakor and her husband David and Sean Adinolfi; two sons
and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Sandra McCarthy of
Glastonbury and their children, Angela Lent and her husband
Scott, Amy Twiss and her husband Peter, Kevin and Maria
McCarthy of Manchester and their children, Sarah and
Christine McCarthy; and six great-grandchildren, Jason,
Jonah, Jacob, Grace, Daniel and Megan; a brother and
sister-in-law, Harold and Audrey McCarthy of Middletown; a
sister-in-law, Helen McCarthy; several nieces and nephews
and a loving group of friends and neighbors. He also is
survived by family on his wife's side. sisters-in-law, Beatrice
Johnson and her husband Martin, and Lucille McKinstry. He
was predeceased by a brother, Dennis McCarthy and inlaws,
Irene and Joe Meehl and Robert and Earl McKinstry.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany
Turnpike, Canton, Thursday, January 2, 5-8 p.m.
Funeral will be Friday, January 3, 12:15 p.m. from the
funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1
p.m. in the Church of Saint Ann, Avon.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown at the
convenience of the family, with the Reverend Father Patrick
G. McCorry, Associate Pastor of Saint Sebastian Church,
Middletown officiating.
