Robert J. Canning

Robert J. Canning, 92, of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Greenwich, died in Florida on Feb. 24, 2010.

Canning was a graduate of the University of Michgan, where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity.

He was part of the corporate financial staff at General Electric Corporation 43 years.

Canning was a lifetime member of American Accounting Association, Financial Executives International, and American Collegiate Schools of Business. A member of Milbrook Club in Greenwich, Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club and Delray Beach Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Harmuth Canning; five children: Molly Mead of Simsbury; John Canning of Westport; Kathleen Canning Reilly of Hudson, Ohio; Constance Davis of Seattle, Wash.; and Robert G. Canning of Darien; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-children: Joseph T. Harmuth of Madison, David C. Harmuth of Southport, Holly Harmuth Clement of McLean, Va.; and William K. Harmuth of Andover, Mass.; and four step-grandchildren. Canning was predeceased by his wife, Mary Mooney Canning, in 1976.

A memorial Mass was held on Feb. 27, at St. Vincent's Ferrer Church, Delray Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Adopt-A-Family of Palm Beaches, 2200 N. Mango Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33409. Interment will be private.

Tucker Lowe Davis

Tucker Lowe Davis, 28, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2010, surrounded by his family and close friends.

Davis was born on Oct. 16, 1981 in New York City. He attended The Day School and Allen- Stevenson School. In 1994, Tucker and his family moved to Greenwich, where he attended Brunswick School and Greenwich High School and later graduated from the University of Colorado with a major in international affairs.

Davis was a member of the CU freestyle ski team and coached the Boulder High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team.

After his graduation from college, he worked for three years as an investment banker in New York City with Bank of America's Financial Institutions Group, following a summer in London as an underwriter of financial products at Lloyds.

Davis fought a battle against fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma since 2008.

He and his family and friends started the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation (www.fibrofoundation.org) to help fund research for a cure and raise awareness of this rare liver cancer. He wished to find a way forward for the young people affected by this disease, for which there is currently no known cure.

He had a gift for mathematics, logic and puzzles. Davis loved the great outdoors, winter and summer camping, cooking up a delicious meal, deep sea sail and bone fishing in the Florida Keys, as well as fly fishing in Colorado and Vermont, skiing in Alta, sky diving, hockey, the New York Rangers, the Grateful Dead and Phish, breakfast sandwiches at the Bellport Deli, and was always at the center of good times as the "Chief Entertainment Officer."

He leaves his parents, Marna and Chuck Davis; his brother, Tyler; his girlfriend, Alisha Sternenberger; his grandmother, Eleanor Olsen; his aunts and uncles, Kathy Davis and Gary Boynton, Jeff and Karen Davis, and Ken Olsen; several cousins, Courtney and Jon Guyette, Hillary and Doug Boardman, Jeffrey, Whitney, and Hayley Davis, Leif and Cabot Olsen, Gussie and Leighton Guyette and Millie and Freddie Boardman; along with his puppy, Aspen. Davis was predeceased by his grandparents, Phyllis Lowe Davis, Dudley Hale Davis, Clinton O. Olsen, and his aunt, Cheryl Davis Mead. He also leaves many friends, including his lifelong friend, Charles Beermann.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich, Saturday, March 27 at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations may be made in Tucker's name for fibrolamellar research to the Stone Point Capital Foundation (for the benefit of the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation) at 20 Horseneck Lane, Greenwich, CT 06830.

Beatrice Hurta Dobrucky

Beatrice "Betty" Hurta Dobrucky, Greenwich native and registered nurse, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2010.

Dobrucky graduated from Greenwich public schools, Greenwich Hospital Nursing School and the University of Connecticut. She retired from Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, N.Y. in 1985.

She was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Byram, where she served on the Altar Guild, and a member of the Sokol USA in Byram. Following the death of her husband of 49 years, Milan Dobrucky, she moved from Glenville, N.Y. back to her hometown of Greenwich and resided there for the past six years.

Dobrucky is survived by her cousin, Beatrice Walko and a niece, Kathy Kowalk. She was "Aunt Betty' to Matthew, Suzanne, and Jacqueline Sukala, and David and Stephen Walko. Dobrucky was predeceased by her parents, Anna and John Hurta and her husband, of 49 years, Milan Dobrucky of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

A memorial service for Dobrucky will be held during a Sunday morning service later this month at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Schenectady, N.Y.

Arrangements were made by Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich.

Rena C. Hayes

Rena C. Hayes, 101, former Greenwich resident, died peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 24, 2010 at Brighton Gardens in Chevy Chase, Md.

Hayes lived in Chevy Chase for 12 years, after spending many years in Greenwich.

She is survived by three daughters: Dodie Anderson of San Diego, Calif., Pamela Sacks of Worcester, Mass., and Mary Hayes of Alhambra, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Samuel Hayes, died in 2005.

Hayes was interred at Mount Auburn cemetery in Cambridge, Mass. Services were private.

Robert Hamilton Ingalls Jr.

Robert Hamilton Ingalls Jr., 64, Vietnam veteran and a longtime resident of Greenwich, died on Feb. 21, 2010 at Greenwich Hospital.

He was born in New Jersey on Oct. 18, 1945 to Robert H. Ingalls and Helen Virginia Williams-Ingalls and spent most of his childhood living in England. He was a graduate from Brunswick School class of 1963, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in American and British History from Yale University in 1967 and a law degree from Columbia University in 1972.

He served in the Vietnam War from 1969-70.

Ingalls started his law career at Dewey, Ballantine, Bushy, Palmer and Wood in downtown Manhattan. He then worked in private practice until his retirement. Family and friends will remember him as a kind and generous man who cherished his wife, loved to travel and served as "Coach Bob Ingalls, " a volunteer for the Greenwich Cardinal Rugby Club.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Eileen P. Ingalls.

A memorial service was held on March 3 at The First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Cardinal Rugby Club, c/o 83 Summit Road, Riverside, CT 06878. Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home of Greenwich is assisting with arrangements.

Ann M. Hicks

Ann M. Hicks, 74, an Old Greenwich resident and longtime Greenwich public school English teacher, died on Feb. 21, 2010, following a long illness.

She was born in New York City on Jan. 8, 1936 and lived in Greenwich from 1947 - 51, when her late father, David S. McLean, served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Hicks attended school in Old Greenwich, then moved to Radnor, Pa. when her father became superintendent of schools there.

She graduated from high school in Radnor 1954, then went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree from Wellesley College. She also earned a teaching certificate from Montclair State College in New Jersey and a MA degree as a reading specialist.

Hicks taught for eighteen years as an English teacher in Greenwich, first at Western, then Eastern and Central Middle Schools. She was a member of the Milbrook Club, Rocky Point Club and the Garden Club of Old Greenwich.

She traveled throughout the world with her husband and children.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Hicks, of Old Greenwich; two children, Catherine E. Johnson, of Redmond, Wash. and Dr. David L. Hicks, of Piedmont, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

A family service was held on Feb. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation.
