Helen Martha Borst

Helen Martha Borst, 78, of East Norwalk, died Dec. 11, in Norwalk Hospital.

Born in Norwalk, March 19, 1931, daughter of the late Stephen and Helen Warga Valentik, she was a lifelong city resident. A 1948 graduate of Norwalk High School, Borst was trained as a secretary and had been employed by Remington -- Rand Corp., the Hat Corporation of America; she was secretary to the Norwalk building Inspector, and both Norwalk Fire Chief and Fire Marshall. She retired in 1987.

Survivors include two sons; William J. Borst and Robert A. Borst, both of East Norwalk, and a brother; Thomas Valentik, of Falmouth, Maine.

She was predeceased by a sister Ruth Tymon.

The Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk handled arrangements.

Funeral and committal services are private.

Anne M. CimminelliAnne M. Cimminelli, 96, of Norwalk, died Dec. 12 at Norwalk Hospital. Born in New York, she was the wife of the late Jeffrey Cimminelli, and had worked for many years in the family business, Phil Baker's Restaurant. She was a member of the Norwalk Senior Center.

Predeceased by her brothers Philip and Vincent Matro, and two sisters, Concetta Matro and Teresa Carrano, she is survived by her sister Frances T. Cea of Norwalk, and her loving nieces and nephews including Marguerite Iannacone of Stratford, Concetta Mastrianna of Milford, Felicia Mancuso of Trumbull, and Vincent Matro of New Fairfield.

The Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk handled arrangements.

Memorial donations may be directed to: St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd, Norwalk, CT 06851.

Thomas Everett Finnegan

Thomas Everett Finnegan, 85, of Norwalk, died Dec. 14, at Southport Manor. He was the husband of Rita Connors Finnegan for the past 56 years. Born in Norwalk on May 20, 1924, Finnegan was the son of the late Thomas J. and Anna Everett Finnegan. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and a veteran of W.W.II, serving with the U.S. Army in London.

After the war he was a painter and worked at the South Norwalk Post Office for many years. He was an avid reader and a devoted family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Rita, survivors include his loving daughter Cheryl Ragonese her husband Thomas, and their children Kayla Anne, Andrew Thomas and Dylan Everett Ragonese, all of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Helen Bottone, Jean Wikman and Dorothy O'Sullivan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 206 East Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at Willowbrook cemetery in Westport.

Gloria E. Allen

Gloria E. Allen, 84, of Westport, died after a long illness at Norwalk Hospital on Oct. 2.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y. on Sept. 19, 1925 daughter of the late Stephen and Edna Hanley Wall. Allen was employed by Burndy Corp. for many years where she managed the entire sales personnel car fleet. She volunteered for Norwalk Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center for approximately 15 years. She was recognized and awarded Volunteer of the year. While her sons Michael and Bruce were growing up, she volunteered during the boy`s basketball and baseball seasons. She would keep score for their Biddy Basketball Games and their Norwalk Babe Ruth Leagues. An avid bowler, who won many tournaments, she also enjoyed playing softball and was a great fan of baseball and basketball.

Surviving are her two sons; Michael Fratino and his wife Sheryl, of Chester, VT and Bruce Fratino and his wife Ginny, of Danbury; grandchildren, Frances Heberts and her husband Mark, of Londonderry, VT., Christa Fratino, currently of Londonderry VT; Nicole and Cara Fratino, of Danbury; a great grandchild Moriah Heberts, of Londonderry, VT. Allen was predeceased by a sister, Jean Wigand. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Norwalk Hospital Cardiac Unit, 24 Stevens Street, Norwalk, CT 06850.

Albert E. Fallon

Albert E. Fallon, 80, of Trumbull, the retired owner and operator for Fallon`s Twin City Garage of Norwalk and Naugatuck, died on Oct. 22, in Ludlowe Health Care Center, Fairfield.

Born in Springdale, Conn. on Aug. 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Harold and Ella Stratinger Fallon. A U.S. Army veteran, Fallon had a strong love and dedication for his country and his fellow veterans of war. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years Caroline DiScala Fallon, four loving children, Kathleen McGrath and her husband Kevin of Gainesville Ga., Cindy McGuire and her husband Bill of Shelton, Scott Fallon and his wife Denise of New Port Richie, Fla. and Lynn Lewis and her husband Vernon of Trumbull; 10 cherished grandchildren, Kimberly, Shannon, Michael, Caitlin, Billy, Chelsea, Leslie, Cassidy, Jeremy and Melany; a great granddaughter McKenzie; a sister, Ella Wells of Vt., as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Kearney.

Sidney Mullen

Sidney Mullen, a longtime resident of Norwalk, died at Westport Manor on Oct.16. He was married to the late Clara Smith and worked as a Hatter in the Hat Corporation on East Avenue in Norwalk.

Mullen is survived by his son; Allan Smith (Stephanie), two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Downer Funeral Home, 75 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.

Bernice Norwood Napper

Bernice Norwood Napper, formerly of Riverside, died Oct. 23, at the Green Tree Manor Nursing Home, Waterford, where she resided for eight years.

She was born in Stratford on Dec. 10, 1916 to the late Rev. James Oscar Norwood and Rosa Braswell Norwood and was raised in South Norwalk. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1934 and from Howard University School of Music in Washington, D.C., in1938, where she majored in music and voice. After graduation, she lived in Riverside, where she performed vocal concerts throughout the state and Washington, D.C. She was very active in the local Republican Party as well as various local civil affairs. She was married to the late Alver W. Napper, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Napper Knudsen of Copenhagen, Denmark; her son, Alver Woodward Napper, Jr. of Loudoville, NY; her youngest sister, Eleanora N. Clarke of Norwalk; her nieces, S. Vanderklief of Stamford; Lynda C. Stack of Bridgeport; and Leigh D. Clarke of Norwalk. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Louise Gonzolez-Knudsen; her grandson, Eric Knudsen; three great granddaughters and a great grandson.

Angelina T. Parlanti

Angelina T. Parlanti, 75, of Norwalk, died Oct. 22, at home with her family at her side. She was the wife of Eugene A. Parlanti for 51 years. Born in Norwalk Sept. 20, 1934, Parlanti was the daughter of the late Vincent and Angelina Baldino DiMeglio and had worked for several years at the Brien McMahon High School cafeteria. She was a member of the St. Ann Club and a volunteer for the Notre Dame Guild. She was also a longtime member and volunteer at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Rosary Society and the Red Hat Society. She was active with the Norwalk Senior Center, loved to play Bingo and visit the Mohegan Sun with her husband. She also volunteered for the Norwalk Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Baseball Leagues.

Survivors also include her daughter Gina Marie Oman (and her husband Timothy P.) of Norwalk; her sons James A. Parlanti (and his fiancé Lisi Loudon) of Milford, and Joseph A. Parlanti (and his wife Toni Marie) of Norwalk; brothers Michael DiMeglio (and his wife Joan) of Keane, N.H., and Thomas DiMeglio (and his fiancé Colleen Bentley) of Bridgeport; her sister Maria "Jenny" DiBerardino (and her husband John) of Norwalk; five grandchildren; Michael and Matthew Parlanti, TJ and Amy Oman, and Michael Loudon, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Notre Dame Convalescent Home, 76 West Rocks Rd., Norwalk, 06851, or to the American Cancer Society, 333 7th Ave., 17 Floor, NY, NY, 10001.

Emily Pease Haas

Emily Pease Haas, 81, of Norwalk, died Dec.13 at Norwalk Hospital of ovarian cancer.

She was predeceased by her parents Myrtle Stowe Pease Humphrey and John Pease, her stepfather Fred Humphrey, and two sisters, Marion Pease Davis Sallani and Dorothy Pease Beecher.

Surviving her are her husband of 55 years William Haas of Norwalk; two sons, Donald Haas of Stamford and David Haas and his wife Suzanne Haas and her granddaughter Julia Haas, all of Fairfield. Also surviving Haas are her brother John Pease of Norwalk and her sister Ellen Pease Percey of Richmond, Va.

She was born May 27, 1928 in St. Petersburg, Penn., and moved to Norwalk as a young child. She graduated from Norwalk High School 1945. Emily and Bill were married at the Norwalk United Methodist Church (NUMC) Sept. 11, 1954. She served as head librarian at Norwalk's Cranbury Elementary School for many years and was active at the NUMC, as a member of the choir in her youth and chairman of the Missions Commission later in life, until her health would not allow.

Her hobbies were reading, music, genealogy, and growing and showing African Violets.

Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory handled arrangements.
