Michael Dobson

Michael Dobson, 63, artist and landscape architect and former resident of Greenwich, died of a brain tumor on June 1, 2010 at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Dobson was born in Rockville Center, N.Y. and grew up in Greenwich.

After graduating from Brunswick School in 1964, he attended Princeton University, where he majored in classics and philosophy. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in landscape architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied with renowned landscape architect Ian McHarg.

Dobson worked mostly in Connecticut, Vermont, and Maine. With the help of his wife Laurie Goodrich Dobson, he designed landscapes and buildings informed by a deep sense of place, a love and feel for materials and light, and a commitment to the ideals of classical design, his family said. "Creating landscapes, " Dobson said, "is working in four dimensions: the usual three, plus the dimension of time."

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Dobson; and five children: David Wilson and Adam Wilson of Tryon, N.C., Jesse Cutler and Lily Cutler of Seattle, Wash., and Emma Cutler of Kennebunkport, Maine, who cared for Dobson with her mother and was with him when he died. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Dobson of Philadelphia, Pa., a sister, Parrish Dobson of Belmont, Mass., a niece, Miranda Pool, and a nephew, Christopher Dobson.

A memorial service will be held at Dingletown Community Church in Greenwich on July 11 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment of his ashes in the church's Memorial Garden -- a garden designed and built by Dobson himself in memory of his father and mother.

James P. Donahue

James P. Donahue, 79, of Larchmont, N.Y. and formerly of Greenwich, passed away June 13, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pa. following injuries he sustained in an automobile accident three weeks earlier.

Donahue was born Oct. 27, 1930, the youngest of three children, to Anne Cullinan and James T. Donahue.

He was born and raised in the Bronx and Manhattan and spent summers at his family's home in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey. A graduate of The Fordham Preparatory School and New York University, he spent more than 25 years as a sales executive at Pendleton Woolen Mills, where he met his wife Catherine.

Those who knew him best remember his passion for the stock market, Irish wit and the twinkling charm in his eyes. Above all, it was his devotion to his wife, family, friends and his faith in God for which he was most admired, his family said.

He is survived by his three children: Catherine Donahue Fugazy and her husband Roy of Larchmont; James P. Donahue, Jr. and his wife Melissa, also of Larchmont; and Patricia Donahue Eagan and her husband Bret of Rye, N.Y.; and five grandchildren: Catherine, Rory and Scarlett Fugazy and Anna and James P. Donahue III "JP." Also surviving Donahue are his two sisters, Eileen Jones of West Palm Beach, FL and Marylin Garvey of Downington, Pa. and many nieces and nephews.
